“They’re Mistakes, Not Guys Really Getting Their Tail Whipped”
July 30th, 2019The Bucs offensive line has struggled since the pads arrived for real football on Sunday.
Offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich talked about that today and he sort of made excuses. Well, perhaps it was just one excuse, the offensive linemen are rusty because the league won’t let them play real football sooner.
“They’re getting screwed because they can’t block in the summer,” Leftwich said of the O-linemen. “It takes a while in training camp to get everything flowing the way you want it.”
Overall, Leftwich is not concerned by seeing the Bucs defense overwhelm his offensive linemen. “They’re mistakes, not guys really getting their tail whipped,” he said.

What?
The line sucks again????
Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……….
Again???????
“Oh no, we suck again!” (waterboy)

>>> “They’re mistakes” <<<
Yup. Benenoch and Crappa are certainly mistakes.
July 30th, 2019 at 11:53 am
Cappa is in his second year and not getting much playing time as a rookie he should be making mistakes but the rest of these guys it’s an excuse. I will go along with what coaches are saying for now but when preseason rolls around and we’re seeing these guys get whipped on the field it’ll be real hard to take what they say about this line seriously.

You’d expect better from the 2nd highest paid o line in the league…
July 30th, 2019 at 12:00 pm
No Byron, not just mistakes, they are getting their butts beat and will continue to take ass whippings until something is done about the right side of the line.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:13 pm
what about Donovan Lucky Smith….that guy was at the exact place at the exact moment…..he is making millions with a less than average production, same as Ryan Jensen……the only one who is playing pretty good is Marpet……How on earth can you win games with this OL, you need a miracle!!!!!
July 30th, 2019 at 12:22 pm
O line??? I only wanna know how Zach Bailey is progressing. He’s the missing link needed.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:42 pm
Anonymous hit the nail on the head. 2nd highest paif line playing like the 2nd worst. A oline is strong as its weakest link and the Bucs still need a RG. I hope BA makes a move after final cuts to get a mauler in here.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:53 pm
BA is known to pick up starters via waiver wire after the last 53 man cut. He is especially good at picking up the Olinemen.

Marpet is the only legit stud we have…..Ideally if you’re going to have only one stud on the line, you’d want your LT to be that guy. Smith, Jensen, Dotson….all serviceable starters….with Smith and Jensen being paid as if they’re top tier.

NOSBOS … Question: How do you know that Zach Bailey is the ‘missing link’ if you don’t know how he’s progressing? For all we know he might be worse than Cappa or Benenoch.
AlabamaBucsFan … Therein lies the HOPE; that BA will snare 1-2 OLinemen before the season kicks off. Wouldn’t take much to find a RG better than what we have. And someone for better DEPTH for that matter.
Not sure I agree with Leftwich’s logic Joe. Yes these guys haven’t been blocking until now, but getting your butt whooped IMO is more about physicality, technique & desire. They’ve been working out for a long time now, so they’re all probably about as strong & physical as they’re gonna be. None of them are newbies, so their ‘technique’ should be pretty far along. And as far as desire goes, if I was getting my arese handed to me I’d be pissed. Desire to do something about it wouldn’t be an issue.
Of course, reality tells me that some players are simply better than others. Vea for instance is not only incredibly strong, but he’s also quick & fast. Not sure I’d say the same about Cappa or Benenoch. One-on-one I’d put my money on Vea every time.

The line was fine last year when it came to pass blocking, they were awful in run blocking – but they also had to deal with Dirk telegraphing everything they were going to run the ball.
Anywho it’s early in camp, the offense is normally always well behind the defense at this point, they’re learning a new system so lets see what happens in a few weeks.
July 30th, 2019 at 3:33 pm
I’m not seeing or hearing about other teams O-lines getting continually abused in camp right now. This excuse should be league wide not just the Bucs, right?

Correct!
July 30th, 2019 at 4:11 pm
Maybe our D is that good?
(one can hope)
July 30th, 2019 at 4:14 pm
They have plenty of experience and are not new players and already should have chemistry together. They should have learned the playbook on their own. But they are getting experience now on dealing with blitzes. But let’s hold off on conclusions til we see how they do in Preseason. Cappa is playing out of position and got no development from Warhop last year. He will need more time and development. Liedtke can step in and play Guard like the Veteran he is if Cappa cannot handle it.

They need to make a big trade for a serious trade for a good RG before TA. I hate to say Brate because he’s one of Jameis’ top targets in the end zone, but the ball can’t even get to Jameis’ hands before someone’s is in face. And a awesome RG would make this entire oline soo much better.
July 30th, 2019 at 4:17 pm
*serious trade for a good RG before TC

Thank JL second highest paid o-line in the league and they suck. I envision JW throwing the ball up for grabs if the o-line doesn’t get any better. BA or BS we shall see in September.
July 30th, 2019 at 4:42 pm
I told you so.
OG/C in the 2nd round. Been calling for it for years.
Dallas built a line of 1st rounders.
I wanted to build a line of 2nd rounders.
But Licht thinks hes smarter than me.

I am sure Arians will be watching the waiver wire this year, and he knows talent.

OMG it’s training camp and we typically struggle against 3-4 fronts. We will be squared away swabbies. Our offense will be top 10 in the league as more balanced under BA. BA (reminds me of North Dallas Forty). Hope our Defense gels and are top 15 D under Bowles…with the young talent….They seem to have swagger but until game time act like you have been there….leave the roller coaster/rowboat or whatever that was until you have done something in this league.
GO BUCS 10-6, 11-5 and first playoff win since….. uh SB? That hurt saying…
July 31st, 2019 at 2:00 am
I’m not panicking until we have lost 2 in a row. Recent history suggests that will come in early September.
July 31st, 2019 at 8:56 am
Buczilla your right probably the first two games.
August 2nd, 2019 at 2:49 pm
So, the offense is getting beat by the defense in training camp. Where’s my smelling salts?! Mebbe the defense is showing signs of life, huh? Better than last season, For sure!
