Mike Evans A Burner?

July 30th, 2019

Deep threat?

Very interesting perspective from a national voice on the best receiver in Bucs history.

Joe has written many, many times that the Bucs defense through four days of training camp is way ahead of the offense. Dudes, especially in the secondary, are flying to the ball, making plays, creating havoc, full of swag.

Based on the trash the Bucs fans have watched from the defense for the past five years, this is a jolt to the system.

Bucs wide receivers are actually being contested and have to break a sweat to make plays. Well, except for one.

If Joe had to pick a player that is having the best camp, it would be wide receiver Mike Evans. The guy is simply a man among boys. He’s just toying with Bucs defensive backs.

Now this dude has not yet been at Bucs camp but he pops in at One Buc Palace from time to time and that is Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. He put out a list this morning he hashtagged “#FightMeFive.” It’s a top-5 list and today he ranked Evans as the No. 4 deep threat in the NFL. Given how Evans is not a burner, this caught Joe’s attention.

Now we know Evans has shed weight this offseason to be a little more nimble. Joe has a hunch that Evans will torch a lot of defenses this year playing for Bucco Bruce Arians.

You can watch the video clip of Garafolo raving about Evans right here.

Top 5 all time Buc WRs… 1) Mike Evans. 2) Vincent Jackson. 3) Keyshawn Johnson. 4) Joey Galloway 5) Keenan McCardell…

  2. BetterBucFan Says:

Marine Buc you’re forgetting about the dynamic, explosive, speed demon, vertical threat Adam Humphries

  3. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

    1) Mike Evans 2)Kevin House 3)Mark Carrier 4) Keenan McCardell 5) Joe Jurevicious

    Me Shawn????? GTFO!!

  4. Cobraboy Says:

Evans tall frame means he doesn’t have to get the separation a “burner” does to still be open.

    VJax was the same way.

  5. RustyRhinos Says:

I agree with your top five Ghost. Those were my missi g choices. House & Carrier.

  6. TOM EDRINGTON Says:

Deep passes to Mike Evans? Joe(s) are assuming that this raggedy-ass offensive line will allow Jameis to stay upright long enough to do that….

  7. NOSBOS Says:

Ask the aints marshon lattimore about ME not being a burner.

  8. NOSBOS Says:

The whole offense is a deep threat. Ish about to be like taking candy from a baby this season. I have a little familiarity with every roster in the league. Ours plays second fiddle to no-one.

  9. Mikadeemas Says:

    Galloway before Key all day!

  10. NOSBOS Says:

Same raggedy @$$ O line that helped produced the #1 overall passing attack in the NFL last season. The same raggedy O line that had kookie simply given Peyton another 35 rush attempts would’ve claimed a 1000 rusher. Yea I’ll take that raggedy @$$ O line. Some of you seem str8 out of a comic book.

  11. Mikadeemas Says:

Bottom five Clayton, Hurt Emmanual,Alvin Harper, Dexter Jackson, Kenny Bell…..in you pick em order. Hey , GO BUCS!

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Any top 5 Bucs WR list that doesn’t include Mark Carrier is fake news.

  13. Tom Edrington Says:

@NOSBOS: You get the No. 1 passing attack when you’re behind in every game, trying to catch up, then rack up garbage yards in the fourth quarter when other teams play really loose prevent…..did you not watch the games last year??

It’s the formula for five wins.

  14. Player 1 Says:

Agreed on Carrier Munch. Not sure how Rhonde isnt in the conversation either.

  15. FrankPillow Says:

Evans is the most significant and impactful player this team has had in nearly two decades. The exciting thing is that he’s just now in his prime—the sky’s the limit. Health is always the key, but make no mistake, he’s fully capable of putting together a Hall of Fame career.

  16. delson Says:

I liked mike williams almost got freeman a 2nd contract till Schiano put a cap on the attempts downfield allowed per game. Carrier and House were before my time.

  17. WestChap Says:

Kevin House! Ah, the memories the young ones never saw… Mike Evans has definitely surpassed and is still going strong.

  18. rhenry Says:

shish, how about Gerald Carter. Clutch.

  19. pepsi Says:

Evans torched Lattimore twice last year in a straight up head to head footrace. Lattimore is a 4.3 40 guy. Hes routinely torched NFL corners on go routes since his rookie year. Why are we saying his not a burner? Its amazing how Mike Evans is still underrated even by our own local media. The dude has everything – size, strength, routes, hands, and speed. his lone negative since being here has been his conditioning and every now and then a small batch of drops.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

WestChap – Yeah, House should be in the top 5. My top 5 would be 1) Evans 2) Carrier 3) Keyshawn 4) VJ and probably 5) House, but keeping Galloway out of that top 5 is hard to do.

McCardell was only here for 2 seasons, and Joe Jurevicius wouldn’t even be ahead of Mike Clayton or Mike Williams or even Bruce Hill on my list.

Speaking of which, looking at the numbers and Mike Williams is the Bucs 8th all-time leading WR. That’s amazing, who knew he was so solidly in the top 10.

Finally, who the hell is Gerald Carter? I started watching football in that era but I have exactly zero memory of him. He’s actually 7th all-time on the Bucs WR yardage list. That’s amazing to me as I have no memory of a player by that name.

  21. BetterBucFan Says:

I feel like a baby in this comment section- I was born 2001 so I missed the legendary bucs dynasty… the only teams I’ve known have been losing teams (and that one 9-7 year). I missed out on all those wide receivers like Carrier, Kevin House, and even VJAX to an extent.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

BetterBucFan – I started watching around 1985 (although I remember vaguely some games before that), so for me the Bucs were always losers while in school. I heard of the ’79 team, the worst to first, the team that was one game from the SB, but since there was no internet I never saw anything from that era until around 2000. So basically I went my entire childhood and teen years without ever seeing a winner (they had a losing record in every year in that time frame). When I could afford it, in 1997, I got Bucs season tickets, and that’s the first year since 1982 that they made the playoffs. While that was 12 years of my fandom, as a kid it seemed like a lifetime. Now the Bucs haven’t been in the playoffs for 12 years, and it seems like it wasn’t that long ago.

Anyways here’s some games you should watch:

Best regular season game: Rams @ Bucs on MNF, 2000
People can argue all they want with me, I was at that game, this is the best Bucs regular season game of all time. One thing that is seriously missing from RayJay now is how loud and into it the fans were back then – just watch this game and watch the crowd, this was a hard place to come and play.

Best playoff game: Bucs @ Eagles, 02-03 NFC Championship game
You should have already have seen this game – this WAS the SB for the Bucs. They go to the Eagles and completely trash those slobs in their dump of a stadium. A must see.

Oh and the other thing you miss is the old Tampa stadium. That place, like the Vets (the old Eagles stadium) was also a dump – but one cool thing was that chicks would get topless all the time there. Was a really fun place to watch games – and again, no internet, so seeing topless chicks was still a big deal – and as a bonus they were actual chicks, not just a man in a dress who says he’s a woman. Oh the 90s, what an awesome time.

  23. Topdoggie Says:

Horace Copland would be on this list if he didn’t get hurt. I remember him burning Deion Sanders twice on deep balls.
