“We Had Some Guys Just Crap Their Pants Today In Pads”
July 28th, 2019Bucco Bruce Arians has long said that when the noise gets turned up, as in pads coming on, some players disappear and blend in while others thrive.
Today after Day 3 of Bucs training camp, Arians had a new spin on that.
Yes, pads made their 2019 debut and it wasn’t pretty on the offensive line, per Arians. He said he’ll wait to get specific after watching the film. But he had an early and more general assessment.
“It was a little raggedy, more raggedy than I thought it was,” Arians said. “The noise level went up and some guys messed their pants. But we’ll grade the film.”
Specifically on the O-line, Arians was asked about defensive players coming off the edge free and Arians pointed to the O-line rather than the Bucs’ blitzes.
“Mental errors, we had some guys today just crap their pants today in pads. Yeah.” Arians said.
It was a group thing on the O-line, he added, when asked for specifics, saying there was “bad communication” on the line and there were too many defensive players in the backfield
As Joe wrote earlier, Donovan Smith skipped practice with an Achilles injury Arians said is not serious.
A good laundering, showers and some Angel Soft and the Bucs should be good to go tomorrow.

Jameis Winston the only QB in the history of the nfl expected to win playoff games with no Rb, def, kicker, offensive line, special teams, fans, owners.
Oh wait my bad, TURNOVERS!!!! Yea that’s the ticket!!
July 28th, 2019 at 8:24 pm
OLine crapped their pants when Vea, Suh & the rest of the DLine turned it loose for real. Wow … Whodathunkit?
July 28th, 2019 at 8:27 pm
Seriously man there’s better oline play on flag football teams.
July 28th, 2019 at 8:28 pm
Our Defense is so improved now our OL could not stop them. That was to be expected when they had to face Vea and Suh in pads which are going to be a terror this year to all NFL Offenses. Then with our DC throwing blitzes from all directions it was just too much. Iron will sharpen iron and with our new OL Coaches they will get the OL straightened out. By the time we get to the new season it will be easier than facing our Top Ten Defense every day in practice. And our OL were not in a classroom over the break and they are still learning the power Offense!
July 28th, 2019 at 8:29 pm
Arians may be getting with Licht tonight for cocktails and some Late night ribbing. To tell him nicely that the oline is a disaster and he needs to do something about it.
How good are Bengals or giants o lineman ?
Both teams have been hit with injuries at receiver. We have plenty of talent at receiver.
July 28th, 2019 at 8:30 pm
If we have a crappy season this year, not blaming the QB’s, it WILL be because of this sorry @ss offensive line. The only one who seemed to make a push on run blocking was Marpet. It’s no wonder why we can’t run the ball. Plus, both tackle positions couldn’t stop the edge rushers ..at all. Absolutely terrible. Maybe they’ll get better but I hope BA and Licht are keeping an open mind on replacing these stiffs before the start of the season if they don’t improve. This will be our Achilles heel …no pun intended.
July 28th, 2019 at 8:31 pm
I honestly expect this O line to get there A’s have to them all camp. Imagine for a moment breaking a huddle and Mt. Vea and Kong Suh standing opposite of you. One word, Problem.
July 28th, 2019 at 8:35 pm
Oh and there’s that guy missing a few digits coming back soon. Don’t expect our guys to look overly great against our new 3 pro bowl member Dl ine.
July 28th, 2019 at 8:36 pm
I 100% a little shock across the entire roster of retained players. Especially those who were drafted by the Bucs..They are about get get bitch slapped with the reality of a real winning NFL head coach.
I.personally dont care about sloppy play in the preseason and training camp..Thats the time to make mistakes. Once week 3 comes.and the starters play a half thats when they need to start looking like a well oiled machine. Until then.the concern is injuries..Early, serious injuries
July 28th, 2019 at 8:40 pm
Lol @db55 easy, don’t tell the truth around here. I do believe the Bucs will still go 10-5/11-6, just because the coaching is that much better on the defensive side. Winston with no run game and an abysmal defensive coaching staff already proved he is capable. Not to mention the horrible kickers the Bucs have had. Guess those are just excuses though…..
July 28th, 2019 at 8:42 pm
It would be nice to hear some good news coming from the Offensive side.
It sounds like their really struggling right now. Don’t get too worked up over bad practice mistakes. You’re allowed to screw up in practice. This is a whole new coaching staff top to bottom. An adjustment period is expected……..Just surprised that it’s the offense struggling.
July 28th, 2019 at 8:42 pm
After 6 Jason drafts here we sit…..
July 28th, 2019 at 9:00 pm
This o-line is worrisome. And they have done nothing to address it.
July 28th, 2019 at 9:03 pm
Amazing what happens when you have to actually face a blitz in practice
July 28th, 2019 at 9:11 pm
o/u bucs wins 6.5 for a reason
July 28th, 2019 at 9:21 pm
JP living in fantasy land. You go ahead with your fanboy prediction of 10.5 wins. Nobody that does this for a living is predicting the Bucs to win 7 games. But sure, hang it all on bad prior coaching and not the lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball, the o line and the RB corps.
July 28th, 2019 at 9:25 pm
How could they have possibly seen this coming with all of the off-season upgrades on the O-line? psh!
July 28th, 2019 at 9:27 pm
Wesley … Bucs’ OLine is more than ‘worrisome’. It’s a disaster in the making. No excuse in the world for not addressing the RG position AND depth prior to this. Injuries are a fact of life in the NFL, and right now we have no real depth (as in ‘experienced’) IF a starter goes down. We’ll pay the price this year for years of neglect on the part of our illustrious GM in not addressing our OLine.
July 28th, 2019 at 9:49 pm
Defense Rules.I call it unfair to say that Licht did not address our OL. Last time I checked he is paying three of his players 10M+(or close to it). We also pay Dotson 5M to be our starter.
The expectation should be that these guys play to their expectations. That is a job of this new coaching staff the reach that expectation where the last staff failed……..And they have addressed RG we got 2 experienced vets and a developing player entering year 2. That should be enough for any decent coaching staff. If you need $10 dollars players and premium draft picks to fill all five OL position you will never compete.
If this OL unit fails for a second coaching staff then Licht it will show that Licht has made nothing but mistakes with his decision on OL.
Just think it’s kinda early to write off of the 2019 OL.
New Era BABY!
GO BUCS!!!!
July 28th, 2019 at 9:51 pm
And that’s the expectation!!
July 28th, 2019 at 10:01 pm
Just the downside of no pads at OTAs. The offensive line guys get to do next to nothing until the pads come on.
July 28th, 2019 at 10:04 pm
Bucks win 12 this year. Bruce is all time G. I admire that godfather.
July 28th, 2019 at 10:15 pm
This is excellent news. BA is going to be relentless and finally fix the O-line. I expect to see changes during training camp and preseason. He will be watching the waiver wires for upgrades.
July 28th, 2019 at 10:25 pm
DR relax bro. Go read the notes on the Bucs app. The first name you’ll see is Zach Bailey RG. Already imposing his will. He’ll win the starting RG position like myself and a few others have been saying for weeks.
July 28th, 2019 at 10:28 pm
People saying its bowles defense causing all the problems are out of your skull. These practices are scripted in every period. So leftwich & bowles talk and tell each other what to run so that there is a time to see what is working and what needs help. They def have a period where you can run whatever you want for 10-20 plays but the bucs OL got their arse handed to them in periods they should win. Bowles didnt come up with some unstoppable defense over the off season
July 28th, 2019 at 10:35 pm
Vea.. A man that size not suppose to move that fluidly. Someone said it above and I’ll second the notion. The 2019 Bucs defense will be top 10. And I’m getting the feeling even with what I feel will be an electric offense. This organization will soon be known for its Defense yet again.
July 28th, 2019 at 10:42 pm
Is it the oline or is it the right side of the oline? Inquiring minds want to know bc irlf it’s the left side of the line that’s makes like 80 mil combined then I’m out rn. I’ll go check out Richie Incognito and the rest of the wild bunch.
All the Raiders are missing is Pac-Man Jones. Never say never.
July 28th, 2019 at 10:58 pm
The D has been the soul of the organization for the past five years. Putting or plugging players into a functioning body takes time, experience and a degree of luck with an offensive line: free agency has been a stalwart with New England, ie the recent acquisition of a fifth round player from Cincinnati capable of being coached the right way. Why the Buccaneers organization has not learned from this example tells me the general manager has not done his job in the off season. Sometimes change has to come from the top down: that’s why BA is there now. Are there other changes that need to be made up in the front office?

This da8 Is for you man….. lmao love your first post

@NOSBOS
Zach Bailey RG. …let’s hope so 👍
July 29th, 2019 at 12:24 am
Top-10 Defense, Top-10 Offense…
I’ll take that all day
July 29th, 2019 at 12:25 am
… I meant Top-5 Offense
July 29th, 2019 at 12:35 am
Da8?
July 29th, 2019 at 3:30 am
NOSBOS … FYI I’m pulling for Zach Bailey too, primarily because neither Cappa nor Benenoch have shown me anything. They call the position GUARD for a reason; if the 2 Guards can’t stop behemoths like Vea & Suh it’ll be a very loooong year for our RBs AND our QBs (Jameis wouldn’t last half the year if the center of our OLine especially can’t protect him).
July 29th, 2019 at 4:11 am
JimmyJack … Licht spent two 2nd Rnd picks back in 2015 (4 drafts since then) to upgrade our OLine. We’d added Logan Mankins just prior to that so we had a decent 2015 year … 2162 yds rushing & rookie Jameis threw for 4000 yds. Remember who started that year? LT D Smith; LG Mankins; C Hawley; RG Marpet; RT Cherilus.
Next year Mankins retired & Cherilus disappeared; Hawley stayed as Center in 2016 as did LT D Smith & RG Marpet. LG Pamphile was promoted & RT Dotson regained his starting position. Jameis throws for another 4000 yds but our running game deteriorates (1616 yds rushing was over 500 yds LESS than year before). Licht drafts Benenoch … in 5th Rnd … and adds JR Sweezy to play RG (never suits up due to back injury).
2017 sees the same OLine with the exception that Marpet is moved to Center when Hawley disappeared and Licht adds JR Sweezy to take the RG spot, but drafts no OLinemen that year. Bucs running game deteriorates further (1448 rushing yds) as Jameis throws for another 3500 yds but only lasts for 13 games (injuries took their toll).
2018 sees more of the same except that Marpet now gets moved to LG when Bucs didn’t re-sign Pamphile (who was ineffective anyways) & said bye-bye to JR Sweezy. Benenoch takes his place at RG (how’d that work out?). Licht added Ryan Jensen to take the Center spot but the rest of the OLine (LT D Smith, LG Marpet & RT Dotson) stays intact. Bucs rushing attack is still miserable (1523 rushing yds) but our QBs throw for over 5000 yds together … while leading us to another 5-11 season. Licht drafted Cappa that year but he got almost no playing time (for good reason).
So here we are in 2019 (no OLinemen drafted) but we did add journeyman Watford to our OLine. Are you not seeing a problem here? Presumed starting OLine is LT D Smith, LG Marpet, C Jensen, RT Dotson & RG ???. We do have a new OLine coach, whoopee. But Licht hasn’t given him a whole bunch to work with. Against some teams this year they’ll be competitive; against some others (with stronger defenses) they’re gonna struggle (just like we did last year?). It all starts in the trenches, and pitting lower round draft picks against 1st round beasts like Vea & Suh & JPP isn’t a good prescription for winning the Super Bowl.

“Alan Crappa ?”
Kobe Faker
July 29th, 2019 at 5:42 am
PANIC! (running around hands up!) Panic, panic, panic!
Um, we KNEW this was an issue moving into the season. We KNOW there are going to be issues here.
1st day in pads, not “panic” time yet.
July 29th, 2019 at 9:07 am
Cappa will be fine. The OL has been untested all off season. They’ve basically been manikins there. This is only the start of their on-field work.
It’s called development, people.
