Fun With Kicking

Leg of a monster.
For a fanbase beaten down by the Bucs beating themselves with slugs for kickers for too many years, the following will either let fans sleep better at night or make some run out to buy a case of cold Bud Light and start celebrating.
This Matt Gay can kick. Well, at least kick them long.
Yesterday was for Cairo Santos. Today was for Gay. And the Utah product didn’t disappoint. The fifth-round draft pick entertained fans and gave fans hope with a couple of moonshots.
The Bucs had Gay start with short kicks. After each kick, good or not, he was backed up five yards.
From the 47, Gay’s kick… hit the right upright.
From the 52, Gay’s kick… was good!
From 57, Gay’s kick… was good!
What was most impressive? Gay’s last two kicks, both over 50 yards each, cleared the netting behind the south goal posts.
When he made his final shot from 58, that was it. Fans were a little disappointed the Bucs didn’t have Gay try one from 62 the way he was booming the footballs.
Joe has no idea at this point if Gay will win the kicking job or not. But for the first time in a long, long, long time, Gay gives Bucs fans hope that this malaise from the kicking game may finally come to a halt.

Santos doesn’t have that range. If the competition is anywhere close, it needs to be Gay. I’d rather have someone who can give us a shot IF we are in a spot where we have to kick a 60 yarder at the end of a game.

According to the BA Matt Gay was 10 for 10 today. Apparently the goal post is leaning left and it should have gone though. Either way the dude has got a rocket leg with a extremely high ceiling. Anyone notice if he is still taking a 3 step drop?
