Arians Talks Jameis & “That High Hot One”
July 25th, 2019One issue with the game of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, has the full attention head coach Bucco Bruce Arians, the head coach said today.
What is that issue? “That high hot one down the middle.”
Apparently, Arians has studied the film and is all about fixing Jameis screwing up his technique and footwork on those throws that lead to dangerous mistakes. “He has improved dramatically his footwork,” Arians said of Jameis. “That high hot one down the middle. That doesn’t have anything to do with your brain.”
Arians went on to talk a little more about those throws but the point was clear: it’s a very fixable element to Jameis’ game. And it sure seems to represent a change in coaching from the Dirk Koetter regime.
Arians was adamant that he just wants Jameis playing smart and clean in his technique and all will take care of itself. “I don’t want any player playing scared, says Arians.

If Winston can get his average of 25 turnovers a season 15, he should have a great season.

oh look, coaches who coach. how novel. we might even see players improve, rather than sinking deeper into their bad habits and hemorrhaging confidence

BA’s head will explode….

I think the dynamic between boss and employee is always fluid.
This is especially true in professional sports where a star can frequently have far more power than his coach.
I think JW had far more power ultimately than DK. DK coached scared and I think by last year his fear of actually disciplining JW and cost him to lose any respect…the more powerful JW might have felt for a faltering DK.
That dynamic has changed totally. BA has so much more cred than JW…especially at this point of JW’s career that I don’t believe JW will change plays or not follow BA’s directions without permission. BA will jerk a knot in JW’s tail.
Jimbo tried with “some” success but JW has been a loose cannon for awhile. Jimbo finally gave up and encouraged him to come out early…er “supported” JW’s decision.
I just try and imagine how BA would have handled suspending JW and seeing him show up pre game on the field dressed out.

A new day in Buc Nation. Jameis is going to play VERY well.

Trying to change mechanics after 56 games is tough
Let’s hope James can change mechanics better than he does his decision making
July 25th, 2019 at 2:11 pm
He’s gonna be softer on his footwork and not be digging for pitches in the ninth inning like before hopefully. He has talent at running the ball so hopefully they’ll teach him up at when to throw, run, and throw away. We shall see.
#GO BUCS!!!

I don’t want any player playing scared, says Arians

Same way dougie Martin and Rojo played behind this line, scared! Once jw surpasses his 20th hit of the game he gets shook. Can’t blame him.

I can agree with that he does throw high and it’s always over the middle. It seemed koetter had no clues why winston has not improved mechanics and overall play even though he admitted he didnt try to correct those things however BA has put in a lot of work identifying issues with this roster and specifically winston I am really rooting for this team more than ever this year because if you can pinpoint an issue you can fix it.

Lets hope it can translate to gamedays… sometimes its hard to break old habits.

@Loyal,
You have no idea what you are talking about. Golfers change their swings. Baseball players change their swings and pitchers have changed their delivery points. Muscle memory can be changed. Your absolute mentality is holding you back.
July 25th, 2019 at 3:29 pm
@Loyal,
BTW decision making can also be changed with maturity.
July 25th, 2019 at 3:58 pm
BA stated that he wants him to play “smart”. We all know that is not going to happen.
July 25th, 2019 at 4:27 pm
I’m sure there is a JW sexual misconduct joke in there somewhere…

Very true.

Matt Ryan went 5-14 that’s 5 wins vs 14 losses in his final 19 starts under the watchful eye of Dirk Koetter. Then he was introduced to superior coaching, and developed into an MVP.
24 year old Matt Ryan under Koetter averaged 6.5 yards per pass attempt.
He threw 14 interceptions.
24 year old Jameis under Koetter averaged 7.9 yards per pass attempt.
He threw 14 interceptions.
Look at Jameis first 4 years vs Ryans first 4 years under Dirk, comparing Jameis at age 21-24 to Ryan at age 23-26.
Ryan avgeraged 308 completions on 506 attempts, 3560 yards, 60.8% completion. 24 TD 12 INT. 7.1 yards per attempt, QB Rating of 88.
Jameis averaged 296-481, 3657 yards, 61.9% completion. 22 TD 15 INT, 7.7 YPA and a QB rating of 88.2.
Jameis at age 24 is right where Ryan was at age 26. Ryan didn’t become an MVP until age 31.
Patience is underrated.

@Gerald McBezos
great stuff man. I’ve been saying this for a long time as well. Philosophically speaking, Dirk’s system is very high risk. No other quarterback in the league, on average, is asked to make more tight window-downfield-low percentage throws than his QB’s. Just like you listed out here, Matt Ryan historically threw the most picks per season throughout his career while under Dirk. They were lower both before and after Koetter’s first tenure as Falcon’s OC.
Couple this with a weak running game and a sieve defense and you have a pretty sh!++y football team with a mistake prone quarterback taking all the heat.
