Coaching The “Underhook”
July 23rd, 2019Yes, Bucs center Ryan Jensen may have struggled last season but he cares deeply about his craft.
Joe has the proof.
Jensen was one of 40-plus offensive linemen who headed to Texas about a week ago for a very cool event called the OL Masterminds, a gathering of NFL hogs to share secrets — best and worst practices against NFL defensive linemen.
Jordan Raanan typed up the cool story at BSPN. Interestingly, there was a discussion of how to shut down Jason Pierre-Paul. No, Jensen didn’t participate there, but he was the featured teacher in the video shared by BSPN below. Jensen shared some of his “underhook” philosophy and how defensive tackles attack the snap hand of the center.
If you like the hardcore technique stuff, you’ll like the video and the story. Joe did not recognize any other Bucs in the picture published with the piece.

Obviously the Joes are very high on this underachieving expensive center . HOPEFULLY right coaching will get him back in track .kudos to him for attending the “Linemen seminar”.I rather read more of his scheme effort than the smoked brisket and summer bbq with whiskey that could possibly delay the healing of his lower back inflammation that was reported by the loving Joes! Lol

Playing the LG, C, RG can be very challenging types of roles because they are not always based on your individual production. When you are in the center of the OL you are often pairing up with those next to you and your performance is predicated around them also doing their job. Jensen needs to improve for sure but the RG positions needs to not be a dumpster fire as well. I would like to see if Jensen improves with even just an average player to his right. OL remains one of my biggest concerns for this team, especially in the Bruce Arians scheme, his scheme is known for getting the QB hit quite a bit.

2nd highest paid O-line in the league!!!!!! Light weight just missed out of being in the top spot by $850,000!!!!!!!!!!! are the Bucs getting their money’s worth?????? Has light weight over paid and setup another coaching staff for failure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Intern Zach asks: “Mr. Realist, why don’t the sheep ask questions”?????????
The Buc Realist says: “Because they do not want to hear the answers”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good thing we addressed the OL & DL with the first 4 picks this year…

If the overpaid underperforming o line doesn’t improve on run blocking to give the team balance the season will be like the last few, doesn’t matter who the coach is need players to execute the scheme
Simple game

The guy started a season after someone in front of him got injured and he was good, not great, and then Licht made him the highest paid center in the history of the NFL…
Meanwhile we could have had Mike Pouncey for less money. Oh, and that’s not just Monday morning quarterbacking, myself and others said he should be the target the entire time.
But the angry ginger, he’s mean, GRRRRR, and ugly, GRRRR, and nasty, GRRRR GRRRR GRRRR!!!
I hope he bounces back this year and makes Licht look great, but realistically the team is already looking at his $11m and figuring out what they’re going to spend it on next offseason.
