Timing Of Cowher Inquiry Critical
December 27th, 2009Before today’s game, Joe presented the NFL Network report claiming the Glazers reached out to Bill Cowher to discuss taking over the Bucs head coaching gig in 2010.
Maybe that’s all a moot point now that Raheem The Dream has the Bucs on a two-game road winning streak.
But the real question is, when did the Glazers make the phone call to Cowher’s people, or Cowher himself? That’s the key point not included in NFL.com insider Jason LaCanfora’s report.
Did the Glazers call after the loss in England to drop the Buds to 0-7? Perhaps it was after the Jets humiliated them in Tampa two weeks ago?
The timing is everything.
Joe can’t blame the Glazers for reaching out and would fully expect them to keep reaching out and exploring every option. After all, it doesn’t cost anything to pick up the phone.

If they want Cowher & he’s interested it wouldn’t surprise me to see them pony up to get him. They did it for Jon Gruden before so its not a stretch in the least. The issue if that is really in play will be control; is Cowher controlling everything or just the HC (which I doubt he’ll settle for)*.
It’s looking it’ll cost at least $8 mill/per year + control (possibly his own GM)*
Ironically, getting a A-list coach is one thing the Glazer’s will pay for. Their ALWAYS about profitability and having Bill Cowher at the helm will help that immensely as well as a proven winner to upgrade the product on the field.
I’m not enthused about Morris back for 2010, so I hope they do it.
