Mike Evans In Top 100
July 17th, 2019Every summer, prickly Pete Prisco comes up with his “Top 100” players list. To add to the fun, CBS Sports decided to have its entire staff come up with a Top 100 list.
So in the rankings compiled by all CBSSports.com staffers, only one Bucs player made the cut. And that would be Mike Evans. He’s at No. 61.
61. Mike Evans, WR, Buccaneers
Evans got back to the Pro Bowl in 2018, setting career highs in both catch rate and yards per reception along the way. And with Bruce Arians now at the controls of the offense, he could be in for even bigger numbers over the next several years.
While this is low in Joe’s eyes, Joe understands it and doesn’t have a huge problem with it. Even though Evans is outstanding, he plays for a bad team. So naturally, fair or unfair, he’s going to be dragged down as a result.
This just goes to show how lowly the Bucs are thought of in league circles. Not even Lavonte David or O.J. Howard or Cam Brate is thought of by other CBS staffers.
That’s how a bad team can indirectly hurt good players.

“This just goes to show how lowly the Bucs are thought of in league circles. Not even Lavonte David or O.J. Howard or Cam Brate is thought of by other CBS staffers.”
Exactly. As the season nears, and I talk to business associates from all over the country on side bars, football always comes up. And while they are sitting in my office or our conference center not five miles from the stadium and One Buc, and some have hotel windows they can look out and see RayJay…the Bucs NEVER come up unless I bring it up.
Evans deserves better…he’s doing his part. His contract grumbling very well may start as early as later this year if it’s not Licht’s out play and results.

If his numbers stay the same or increase some and Tampa starts finally winning games let’s see where they put him then. Feel bad for the guy great receiver on sh1tty teams, he never lays down with the attitude of “”we suck and have sucked

When we open 6-0, the world will be-a-talkin’!
And faux-fans in here will still be-a-bitchin’! About something.

Evans is the best offensive player on the team at this point in his career.
He is unselfish and has already restructured his contract to make it more team friendly. What will the Bucs do to sign our rising young stars ,solid veterans
and stay under the cap? In my mind that going to take some serious thought.

He’s the best player on the team and probably deserved to be ranked in the top 50; the guy’s a superstar!
July 17th, 2019 at 6:48 am
Imagine how high Mime Evans would be ranked if he had a good QB throwing the ball to him!
July 17th, 2019 at 6:51 am
Come on dude, restructuring is not a big deal because he wasn’t getting less money. The restructuring probably benefited him more.
July 17th, 2019 at 6:52 am
Yikes, “Mime Evans?” I need reading glasses.

It was still was for the benefit of the team. Looking it up, he still gets 20 Million, so to be fair it doesn’t benefit him financially any more or less. The benefit is the team was able to sign some of their draftees.
Lets just say if your evaluation of our QB is correct ,wouldn’t it be unselfish to
sign with the team when he very likely could command more in free agency?

Mime Evans is my favorite player on the team. Heard the sex change was a success

Hey Bob, I bet that move forward includes not paying a 25+ million a season top QB contract versus a Rookie 5 year QB contract.
Show me! Do not just tell me, SHOW ME!!
Go! Bucs!

Thats a 25 million dollar question. One staunch Jameis supporter on this site
pointed out that you can win a super bowl with a good defense and a a QB like Trent Dilfer. We won our superbowl with a good a defense and a pretty good QB
but at that time most of the big salaries were on the defensive side of the ball.
IMO, we will somehow neeed to balance money spent on both sides of the ball.

It will be more fun watching the surprise amongst the national media when the Bucs make a huge splash this season. When a team is all hyped up, it’s less fun to win because your expected to win. Also, not getting off season hype will keep the players in prove everyone wrong mode.

gmc refused to restructure…..what does that say about him, he’s a team player?….and how did not restructuring benefit him?didnt he have to relocate and take less money?…..
GO BUCS!!!!

Low expectations! I like it. Nothing to lose. Lay it all out this year and hopefully surprise folks. Can’t be any worse than the last two years, where disappointment prevailed.

I think JW blows up this year. IF that happens…Godwin..OJ and possibly even Brate depending on his TD #’s will also make the top 100.
In addition if ROJO and Barber have career years they will not go into the top 100…BUT…someone like Ali Marpet might…if the Bucs have pass pro and run blocking some OL will get recognition.
Takes awhile to build a rep so our rookies are long shots but White might play well enough to get consideration…and speaking of rookies…again they have NO names yet, no record of performance good or bad, so it’s all guess work at this point.
But I feel really good about the Kentucky safety. He could end up being a bigger steal in the 3rd round (2nd pick for us in that round) than Kwon was in the 4th. Again I’m the cockeyed optimist but not so crazy as to predict any young stud can break the top 100 in his rookie year playing safety. Perhaps if he gets an incredible number of picks.

61? If Mike can stay healthy this year he’s on record to only Randy Moss for most 1,000+ yard season out the gate and he had his best season last year in yards with 1,500+.
At least 40. Nationals can shoot down the Bucs all they want but Evans is a top 10 WR and breaking big records on the same sh!tty team that hasn’t got to a playoff in over a decade.

@813bucboi,
GMC was never asked to restructure. So of course he could never refuse to restructure if he was never asked to.
July 17th, 2019 at 3:35 pm
Well he’s coming off being 3rd in the league in receiving yards so he damn well better be in the top 100.
July 17th, 2019 at 4:35 pm
Players are judged not only by stats but by making plays when it matters. I’m a big Evans fan, but the game changing plays and the winning Offensive possessions need to increase. I think Joe wrote an article a while back where it showed both the offense and defense were equally bad on game deciding drives. What everyone remembers is the crazy catches made by Godwin that either set us up for the win or won the game outright. I’m glad we have both of them!
July 17th, 2019 at 10:10 pm
It hurts to see faint praise for Mike Evans. He is a proven pro who should be obvious to the entire league.
July 18th, 2019 at 12:34 am
IMHO no else deserves to be on this list other than Evans and Lavonte. And it is an absolute travesty that he got snubbed. One of the top linebackers in the league and never gets his due. I can see Oj making this list next year if he can stay healthy and produce as expected. Dudes a special talent.
