“I Think Some Guys Got Too Comfortable”

Well this is disturbing.
It appears a renowned former Buc noticed a fatal flaw in the secondary the Bucs threw onto the field last season.
When discussing the rookie defensive backs on this 2019 squad yesterday, former Bucs safety Dexter Jackson noted why the three DB’s were a necessary addition.
“I think we struggled a little bit with the secondary,” Jackson explained. “I think some guys got too comfortable when they got here. But what they have to realize, every year somebody’s coming out trying to take your job, you can’t take a season off. And I think bringing in other DB’s applies pressure to the former vets who’s here, makes them pick up their game. And also, you have these young guys coming in — who’s hungry, who wants to eat. So I just think it’s going to create great competition and it’s going to make that secondary much, much better. And I think that’s needed, a better secondary.”
Telling words from the Super Bowl 37 MVP, a guy who also said he’s broken down film twice this offseason with new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.
What doesn’t make sense in all this is how could defensive backs on such a disgraceful defense get comfortable?
Lawn chairs might have done the same job that this secondary did last year, allowing opposing quarterbacks a 72.5 percent completion rate. At least the chairs would’ve been cheaper.
This is yet again another example of how little accountability was demanded by the last coaching staff.
Thankfully, Bucco Bruce Arians is here to change that.

Grimes last year surely didn’t help. He in fact may have been the (bad) example of how one can be and get away with it. And while we can’t saddle him with all sources of sadness, who is it (that is still here) that brought Carlton, Stewart, Grimes, VHIII here? And just drafted three more?

Like a broken record, “accountability” and “COACHING”!
Starts at the top. The Glazers should pay back all the money they’ve been stealing from the fans over the last decade. Deplorable!

Which is why I never bought into that “Discipline Driven” stuff. Nice saying on a t-shirt but that’s all it is. I’m not moving off my 6-10 prediction. I hope the Bucs prove me wrong because I’m tired of being proven right when it comes to this team.
July 2nd, 2019 at 6:16 am
Even the veteran DB LOAFED because he was playing for Mike Smith. Thats loke.putting a guy inside a honda accord with 4 flat tired and telling him.to go run a drift race against 4 porches. Hes not going to be excited, hes not going to be concerned with winning and hes certainly not going to give 100% physical or mental effort knowing he playing for no hope. The coaching was so bad I dont judge any players on the roster other than djax, baker the obvious.
Losing Brent Grimes required drafting two guys. VHIII, and Davis will be fine. Let them jam at the line. No player will excel giving away 12 yard cushions. COACHING!!!

“I think we struggled a little bit with the secondary,” Jackson explained. Aah yes, Dexter Jackson, the Master of Understatement.
Woke up this morning wondering if that horse, 2018 Woeful Bucs Defense, was dead yet. Nope, turns out he’s still twitching. You must be a true horse-lover Joe, because I’ve never seen anyone try to keep that horse alive as adroitly as you have.
Apparently it’s true … the grass really is always greener on the other side of the fence. Many, including I think you Joe, seem to feel that Cleveland will be THE TEAM TO BEAT this year, at least in the AFC North, largely because of their defense. What?????? –Joe And yet, their awesome defense allowed opponents to score 392 pts last year for a #20 ranking. MUCH MUCH BETTER than the Bucs’ woeful defense that allowed 464 pts for a #31 ranking. Hmmm, MAYBE they were BOTH BAD, and maybe both of them will improve considerably this year thanks to better coaching & some new pieces on the field.

They were probably told that it’s their rookie year so they should focus on having fun. Good chance. –Joe

By “comfortable”, I suspect they were just collectively really tired after all their half-assed practices and lackluster games. Thank God for them there was a destination of rest across the street at Moms Venus. There they could find comfort. Heck, why be selfish? This group of young Bucs were so selfless they even invited weary dancers to sit on their laps. “Here, gorgeous…be comfortable. I’m here for you.”
Selfless comfort.
July 2nd, 2019 at 6:46 am
Mons.
But Mom’s Venus is kind of funny. Thank you, spell check!
July 2nd, 2019 at 6:46 am
Not that I’ve been there.
July 2nd, 2019 at 6:57 am
Devin White has it right…….you should have fun but you can’t have fun unless you’re winning…..
I think his leadership will make a huge difference with more than just the rookies…..
July 2nd, 2019 at 6:58 am
Todd, thanks I needed the laughs this morning. Moms Venus
Isn’t Moms Venus were mom and dad created us?
July 2nd, 2019 at 7:01 am
Grimes was the veteran and obviously he had some premadonna issues last year and young guys were looking up to him ?
Not sure what happened to grimes. Used to be a guy we all could count on . He Was a great player. But Last year he jumped off a cliff.
And lets face it , offensive minded High school coaches could get yards against smittys outdated / unchanging defense. He took the Bucs for a large booty

Rusty rhino
That’s hilarious 😂

I bet he wishes he didn’t say that…this is what happens when to stick a microphone in the face of a dumb jock…a simple statement gets blown out of context and proportion….good luck getting thing other than canned quotes from him again On so many levels, Joe’s not sure why anyone would say such a thing. –Joe
July 2nd, 2019 at 7:18 am
It’s where mom and dad can go to get some snail tracks on their legs too
July 2nd, 2019 at 7:19 am
Why go to Mom’s Venus, D White actually raises and rides whores on his ranch.
Oooops! Spell check.
July 2nd, 2019 at 7:19 am
I would call dancing on the sideline down by 21 pretty comfortable but that’s just one small example of the stupid crap the fans have been dealing with for the last decade. These were the veterans imagine what the young players were thinking.

July 2nd, 2019 at 7:29 am
Again….who signed Smith to an extension as DC? Licht
Who drafted Hargreaves with no veteran competition to push him? Licht
Who missed on countless draft picks in the secondary? Licht
Licht was drafting guys that didn’t remotely fit any schemes we were running. You can make a valid case that he was preparing the roster for Arians for nearly two years. Its as if it was in the works behind the scenes for a while.
July 2nd, 2019 at 8:13 am
Unless he was around the team then this is simply a guess. Nothing to see here.

Bucfansman “Like a broken record, “accountability” and “COACHING”!

That’s why the Glazers fired the coaching staff! Don’t think the Glazers are frustrated too!
July 2nd, 2019 at 8:51 am
Amazing! Getting your head kicked and are comfortable?? Only in Tampa Bay.
July 2nd, 2019 at 9:27 am
Not so sure they were comfortable. . . IMO they didn’t buy into the scheme and probably didn’t respect the coaching staff very much. They just sorta played out the year took their game checks and went home
July 2nd, 2019 at 10:12 am
Its funny to hear all the “lack of accountability” from last year, yet when the head coach held the lying qb accountable the same screamed that it was not having the players back????????
And the statement of ” they were to comfortable” sound good, but does not make any sense if some followed closely last year!!!!!!!!!! The truth was that the roster had major injuries and massive shuffling of players that was a lack luster talent and rookies to begin with!!!!!!!!! The D-line was injured and built around she-mc with has been’s and forced a defensive scheme that she-mc wanted and force onto the DC!!!!!!! that basic simple scheme that the defense was forced to play was even more so simplified by so many rookies and off the street players!!!!!! The only reason it appeared to improve was that some starters started to come back, and the hard part of the schedule was over!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they still got smoked when playing an avg team late in the season!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how the licht weight still has a job, is one of the main reasons that there is no hope this year!!!!!! riding on all hope that a former retired coach can fix and the mistakes and ifs to salvage anything!!!!!!!!!!!! Total wasted year for 2019!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mom’s Venus is reportedly where BA re-procreated Jameis…at least the next chapter of his career. He’s the Daddy. That’s why Jameis always calls him Papa!
July 2nd, 2019 at 11:22 am
Happens on losing teams with weak coaches like koetter
July 2nd, 2019 at 11:32 am
Guys got too comfortable in a locker room that allowed this type of behavior.
Led by Mr Too Comfortable McCoy.
Can’t wait until the real stories come out about how much of a cancer he really was.
July 2nd, 2019 at 11:34 am
Joe hate to be douche-y here but can you put Super Bowl MVP in front of Dexter’s name like you do with others? Dexter actually accomplished something for this lowly franchise. Like please? This is a fan site right? For F sake man.
July 2nd, 2019 at 11:36 am
been saying for 3years….the problem has been lack of coaching and development…..
dirk and his staff never held players accountable…..
GO BUCS!!!!!

GO BUCS!!!!!

realist
give it up man….lol….
no one forced smitty to do a damn thing…..lol…
they played the same defensive scheme in 2016 when we won 9games….every year we have plenty of injuries…..
dirk and smitty failed to develop players, make in game adjustments and hold players accountable….
and because of that, they werent respected, lost the locker room and got fired…..
BA and his staff will expose you, dirk and smitty for the frauds that you are!!!!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!
July 2nd, 2019 at 11:45 am
That’s why Joe refers to him as “the good Dexter Jackson.”
July 2nd, 2019 at 12:17 pm
Well when your #1 CB, the only guy who was an actual vet, says he won’t cover the #1 receiver cuz he’s not being paid enough (despite being the highest paid CB on the team), what kind of example do you think that sets for the young guys?
What kind of work ethic and mentality do you think they are forming when the vet they look to for guidance has that sort of attitude?
Just another indictment on Koetter / Smith / Licht for the sh!tshow that was last season….
July 2nd, 2019 at 12:25 pm
Joe, you should not keep disrespecting lawn chairs. Lawn chairs are useful. Last season’s DB’s were not useful.
July 2nd, 2019 at 12:41 pm
That’s true. To this day Ira mourns the loss of his lawn chairs that some hoodlum lifted from him on St. Pete Beach, a crime authorities have yet to acknowledge much less solve.
July 2nd, 2019 at 12:51 pm
What doesn’t make sense in all this is how could defensive backs on such a disgraceful defense get comfortable?
Joe, there are two simple answers to this.
1. They were comfortable because there was no accountability.
2. They were comfortable because they knew that they were being forced to play in a worthless, defensive scheme and no matter what they did they were going to fail.
July 2nd, 2019 at 6:42 pm
lol joe!
#PoorIra
July 2nd, 2019 at 7:04 pm
Clear as day.. this is all on the coaching staff. Any player that plays “comfortably”, either needs to be elsewhere or get a swift kick in the A. No other alternatives are acceptable.
July 2nd, 2019 at 9:01 pm
Bowles tells Licht. “Jason do know what a 3-4 defense is? It doesn’t matter, but this is what we’re going to do.”
Bowles (not Licht) was the one that drafted Bunting, Dean, and Edwards.Think about last years secondary. Now think of this year. We are now officially stacked with hungry, young early round DBs that all have high ceilings. Bowles’ scheme could kill it with the right players.
July 2nd, 2019 at 9:02 pm
I love it……Mom’s Venus!!!
