Pro Bowl Season For Godwin?

Ever since Joe watched Chris Godwin play for Penn State in the 2017 Rose Bowl against USC in one of the more entertaining games you will ever watch, Joe’s been a huge fan.
And three years ago when the Bucs selected Godwin in the third round, Joe thought it was an absolute steal. One NFL scribe believes this year, Godwin will blow up.
In trying to cobble together a list of players who will make their first Pro Bowl, Marc Sessler of NFL.com admits he was torn. He sees both O.J. Howard and Godwin having killer years but believes Godwin will actually be a bigger benefactor of Bucco Bruce Arians’ no-risk-it-no-biscuit offense.
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: Chris Godwin, WR, third NFL season: This was a coin flip between Godwin and dominant-when-healthy tight end O.J. Howard. New coach Bruce Arians has a reputation for deemphasizing tight ends, but he acknowledged he’s never had an athletic specimen the equal of Howard. I trust Arians will use his best players, but I know the coach has fallen hard for his young wideout — who posted a 59/842/7 line in 2018 — saying in March: “I think Chris Godwin is going to be close to a 100-catch guy, especially because I think he can play in the slot. He’s never coming off the field.”
That was music to Joe’s ears when Arians said it because when Godwin has played, he’s done nothing but produce.
Godwin’s only issues have been stamina and maybe durability. The stamina mostly stemmed from Godwin’s allergies and finding the right meds that don’t zap him of energy. Durability in that he isn’t the biggest guy and starting at slot, Godwin can expect to be pounded on more than he has in the past.
If Godwin has a Pro Bowl season, Joe’s going to take a walk out on a plank and guess that the Bucs’ offense will be doing just fine.

I just don’t understand it. Everyone says that James is going to suck. But Godwin Evans and Howard are all going to have big years. Do they expect Gabbert to replace Jameis and blow up too?

We had a prolific offense last year passing the ball. A little more balance and a mediocre defense will equate to 9-10 wins and hopefully a playoff spot. Godwin in the slot should equate to similar if not more production than Humphries. If PMan can produce half as well as VJAX, we should be just as good in the passing game. I didn’t agree with the draft at first and I wanted to slit my wrist when finding out JPP will be out till Dec and we only drafted Nelson and got rid of McCoy. Actually Luv the Suh pick up and the way the defense is looking. Fast and Aggressive 3-4.
I also Love that our schedule sucks, WE have a badass coach, we are underdogs, new systems , new staff, tons of young meat playing. Everyone has written us off.
Hopefully all these factors piss some people off and we go TO WORK AS A TEAM. F..K everyone else and go step on a throat after you sack their a$$. There is a good core talent group on this team, just gel and play our game and BA will show us the way

I like Godwin in the slot..he will put a lot of pressure on the defense making it easy for Evans and Ubosi!!

What I like about Chris is that he has “want-to”.
Last year he had a ball tipped in the back of the end zone which led to an interception. I was on his a$$ bc I thought he needed to stretch around the defender’s head/body to catch the ball. The best wr’s in the league are often catching passes off the defenders backs or back of their helmets.
Yesterday I’m watching “the current” and see him and Watson catching passes using a goal post to serve as the defender between him and the ball. I thought it was creative but more importantly it spoke to how much he wants it. Give me more of those guys.

Godwin definitely never hesitates to mix it up, and I’ve worried about his durability, especially given we can expect him on the field at least 30% more than in the past. I know Brashad Perriman is taller than Godwin and about the same weight, but who is faster? Is it conceivable that the Bucs would play Godwin more on the outside and as really their #2,with Perriman in the slot (more than Godwin)? Still hate that we lost Hump though.

It’s the same OLine … that last year did OK on pass-blocking but meh on run-blocking. The same stable of RBs … that produced the #29 rushing attack last year. Same TEs … two of whom got beaten up last year. Changed WR group … that lost DJax & Humphries (well over 100 receptions & 1500 yds together) but gained Perriman & Miller. And of course Jameis … our sometimes-great, sometimes-inconsistent ‘America’s QB’ (IF he expects a long term contract from the Bucs). All under the control of Byron Leftwich … himself with 9 games of OC experience.
Yup, no worries there. And yet Joe, you seem to consider this year’s Bucs’ defense barely one step removed from dogmeat. Woe is us, we have no pass rush because we drafted Devin White instead of Joe’s ‘DE du jour’. And our Secondary has apparently yet to graduate from Kindergarten. A new defensive scheme under the control of Todd Bowles … a very experienced DC with an impressive staff to develop our young players BUT Smitty did taint you Joe about ex-HCs falling back to become DCs. Nope, doesn’t matter. Dogmeat.
And Special Teams; oh don’t get me started on the Bucs’ history with rookie kickers. Woe is us.
Obviously there MIGHT be a hint of sarcasm above Joe, BUT … there’s also a spark of truth. At THIS point in the season, we have no idea what we’ve got on offense, defense or S/Ts IMO, except that it includes LOTS of shiny new toys. And because of that, lots of us JBFers have HOPE. Our offense SHOULD be better this year … new, very experienced positional coaches SHOULD get our offense working together better as a TEAM and Byron Leftwich WILL be under very close scrutiny by Coach Arians I’m sure. Our defense SHOULD be better this year also … the talent has been significantly upgraded IMO and Todd Bowles & company SHOULD get our defense working together better as a TEAM. Special Teams SHOULD also be better this year … after Brindza & Arroyo, third time has to be a charm with Matt Gay … HOPEFULLY. Only time will tell though.

@DR…all good points for reality. Yup, could be 5 wins or worse. Will we be “Tenessee ready?” Hopefully. But I’m already expecting to get home at 9:30pm due to rain delay and an empty stadium.

Gotta side with DB55 on this. The kid has drive and will benefit from better coaching/play-calling IMO.
I still have nightmares about that 3rd down screen we threw to Hump 3 times a game without fail!

The durability concerns will be directly tied to Jamies either consistently throwing his receivers open or to get slaughtered. Unfortunately, I have seen far more evidence of the latter.
Therefore, while not at all what I want, Jamies will shorten the season and.possibly careers of OJ and Godwin. Resulting once again in promising seasons, but no.pro-bowls.
I sure hope.he can fix that basic flaw in his game.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t he have a little problem fumbling ? I think that’s the only knock on him if it’s tru I thought I watched him fumble a few times

Stop it Already , the guy plays like a 4.7 guy , if you want to cater to his skill set , well he will make some plays . This guy outside , nope !!! Not good and when scheme got him open he was a dropping pass machine ( f) !!! Now that being said he fights for the ball and shows a plus hands and concentration on contested balls but he is d- outside and on uncontested passes + turning upfield uncontested !!! Not good at all , wish it all u want , I tell it how it has been !! Normally doesn’t change and if you want it to better bring M Martz because that is the weakness of this offense . Falling down, no run after the catch and can’t and I mean can’t catch a lick and run at the same time uncontested!!! M Martz would hv a seizures w this guys !!!
