Jameis Preaches God & School To Kids
June 20th, 2019It might only be a matter of time before the Tampa Bay Times blasts Jameis Winston for talking about faith in a public library.
If you’re not catching Joe’s line of thinking, you can refresh your memory here of when Jameis was torched locally — and later nationally — for a poor word choice during a 40-something minute inspirational chat with kids at a St. Pete school in 2017. Man, it was such a bad word choice yet not one of the accomplished educators, parents or anyone affiliated with the Bucs got Jameis’ attention, pulled him aside and asked him to clarify or correct his remark.
Anyway, Jameis was back at it again yesterday, addressing kids at the Bessemer Public Library, all part of his Drew Forever Week community project in Alabama. His efforts move to the football field today in the form of a youth camp, and there’s another one tomorrow.
The video below is of Jameis talking to kids and parents yesterday. He’s lecturing on how God is No. 1, Education is No. 2, and No. 3 is an unknown because the video cuts off after 9 minutes.

Since this qb thing is not working out, maybe he should start thinking of this as a career!!!!!! I am sure the bucs or another company would hire him for PR campaigns!!!!!!!! good luch to him in his NEW career!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 20th, 2019 at 11:09 am
Magadude…. is that you in the red shirt sitting behind Jameis?
June 20th, 2019 at 11:14 am
I hope the good Rev. Jameis doesn’t say anything stupid this time…..
June 20th, 2019 at 11:18 am
Joe, the Times still employs someone who covers local sports????? I thought that breed went extinct when Tommy Jones said Bon Voyage….. Anyhow you are probably correct about the PC posse they probably do have on staff… A lot of the great old-school Tampa sportswriters like Tom McEwan and Hubie Mizell are probably turning in their graves over what has happened to the fishwrap industry, particularly here on the SunCoast!
June 20th, 2019 at 11:20 am
Can God help with the interceptions or inaccurate passes?
Was God his #1 priority when he was hassling an Uber Driver or FSU co Ed’s?
Where was God when he was screaming profanities at FSU, or getting the hookup for crab legs? Or lying to his coaches and team about the Uber hassling?
You can’t have poor judgement and try to tell others how to live their lives it just comes off as a hypocrite
I hope this kid plays well on the field but someone with the Bucs or his agent needs to talk to him about what he says
June 20th, 2019 at 11:23 am
Jameis has a good heart and means well…..but…
June 20th, 2019 at 11:24 am
Loyaltotheend Section 312….you seem offended that Winston is giving speeches..
June 20th, 2019 at 11:42 am
Joe,
You got some hella haters on here. Geez!!! If ain’t McCoy, it’s Winston, then Licht, then the Glazers. Go find another team where everything is good.
June 20th, 2019 at 11:50 am
Loyaltotheend – The bible says when you come to know Jesus and accept God into your heart your past sins are as far as the East is from the West never to be dealt with again. It does not matter what he did in the past if he has truly accepted Jesus. We should appreciate the fact that he is up there educating our youth on the importance of faith not bashing him for having a troubled past. You don”t know where his heart is now so don’t throw stones at glass houses. He is doing right in the community and hopefully it translates to the football field.

WOW loyaltotyeend ? I’m assuming you have never made bad choices or mistakes in your life. Luckily for us all , the son of God “Jesus” came to wash the feet of prostitutes. He Healed the lame and the sick , made the blind see , and to most importantly forgiveness for ALL of us who sin , through his sacrifice. Not trying to come off preachy at all here , just when you bring God into the conversation please don’t miss the lesson the entire bible brings no ? If we all were judged including myself on past choices we would all be screwed !
June 20th, 2019 at 12:24 pm
Is he telling the girls that they should be raised to be quiet? Especially after he gropes them in an Uber.
June 20th, 2019 at 12:27 pm
I guess schools dont care wo speaks, they are too busy worrying about which kids are packing a PB&J sandwich.… real problems.

I’ve made loads of mistakes, but none ever included stealing or touching the opposite sex when they didn’t want me to. Athletes and celebrities always play the religion card when speaking publicly but behind closed doors they are acting however they want.
Jameis should hire a speech writer or have a PR person with him at all times.
@Joe-now that was funny
June 20th, 2019 at 12:43 pm
Greg …I’m sure it will be okay…as long as you don’t ride in the same car with Jameis…you’ll be okay.
June 20th, 2019 at 12:45 pm
Good…he has found his calling in life…camp counselor
June 20th, 2019 at 12:50 pm
Good on him for putting things in perspective. Without God, life has no meaning or value.
June 20th, 2019 at 12:55 pm
He was scoping out the teachers
June 20th, 2019 at 1:01 pm
Hmmm…a valid question from a student?: “Mr. Jameis, I know people aren’t spppoed to grab girls in the private parts and I hear people sometimes go to jail for doing that. Why did you so something so stupid, and are you sure our Mommies and Daddies really want you in our school talking to us about anything?”
Hopefully they don’t put this guy in our local schools anytime soon. He’s got no business teaching kids about anything.
Buc1987, no, not me. I have more hair and less chub.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:04 pm
Kids are bombarded by information everyday. Good and bad. I’m not a religious person but I have no problem with a guest speaker talking about religion like this. Kids need to think for themselves and be exposed to different things. Winston was not pushing anything on them and it was all in a positive manner. School, reading and being a good person and motivated via religion are all positive things. Just make sure your kid isn’t hanging out with the kid in the white shirt.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:09 pm
You people. Obviously, people change. Are you the same as you were 5 years ago?
Do none of you ever change your opinions?
The whole Uber thing was 3 years ago. Since then, Jameis has been a model citizen. I see no justification to hold his faith against him.
And he speaks to kids all of the time, it;s one of the off season traditions. The media just doesn’t usually get wind of it.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:12 pm
Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says
“I’ve made loads of mistakes, but none ever included stealing or touching the opposite sex when they didn’t want me to.”
Tell me, has anyone ever touched you that way?
I have. At least 20 times throughout high school and beyond. Women do the same thing to men. I never cried assault. I never pressed charges and never sued.
And by the way…it was never proven that he touched the uber driver.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:13 pm
Loyal, once again ,your ignorance and lack of knowledge is stunning. Jameis stole NOTHING for a store. It’s called a hook up and anyone who has ever been to Tallahassee knows that store was for football players to get hooked up. He couldnt say that though or it wouldve been improper benefits and boom ,hes kicked out for accepting it. 2 he was put through a legal hearing 2 or 3 times for that supposed “rape” and came out clean.yes the uber driver thing was a stupid mistake on his part, theres no defending that. But please get your head out of your backside.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:15 pm
BB you’ve been unwantedly grabbed women in the crotch by women over 20 times?
June 20th, 2019 at 1:21 pm
Sorry, grabbed by women
June 20th, 2019 at 1:21 pm
Its hard to type while laughing
June 20th, 2019 at 1:22 pm
BB… there is putting a move on when the vibe is inviting… and then there is unwanted boyish behavior and then there is …in a drunken state grabbing the crotch of a stranger completely out of the blue!… How many of your 20 were the last example? I suspect NONE…. then weasel lying when the person being lied to already knows the truth
June 20th, 2019 at 1:29 pm
SCBucsfan: I may have been groped by women more than 20 times in my life.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:29 pm
20 times Bonzai?
Fake News!
June 20th, 2019 at 1:32 pm
@granttampa an spiritualbucfan I THANK YOU for not being soft in your faith if Jesus can save me from my past then he can save anyone
June 20th, 2019 at 1:39 pm
@LoyaltotheEnd….well said.
@Bonzai…don’t think you really understand it; no matter. Just hope you don’t have any influence about who is around our children.
Looks like some freelance stuff Winston was doing…doesn’t look like a Bucs-sponsored event. He’s not ready for that.
Tebo could say the same stuff and there would be calls for his suspension. Go figure.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:46 pm
Altered, I was never a drinker ad always avoided drunk people. So no.
SCBucsFan, yes I was. Not all of us are classless. If you think I’m wrong for not liking it, well, I guess that says more about you than me.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:52 pm
BB I have no idea what you are talking about – literally – but nothing says class like being walking around and getting groped.
BTW, doesn’t count if you grope yourself you classy dude.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:55 pm
Magadude Says
“Just hope you don’t have any influence about who is around our children.”
FYI, you are talking to a father, a former minister, and someone who took groups of children to the games out of my own pocket for years. I understand completely.
What you are not grasping is that no sexual misconduct was ever proven with Winston, and that even though he was suspended last year, it was for an accusation of something that happened 3 years ago.
And the NFL took away Winston’s right to prove his innocence when they said if he raised a fuss the suspension would be indefinite.
Keep in mind. He did not drive home drunk. He used Uber to do the right thing, and he still got attacked for it.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:56 pm
I’m surprise nobody has jumped all over the whole teaching God at a public school thing. Give the media a day or two to catch up on that one. Unless it was a Catholic school.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:01 pm
SCBucsFan,
Of course you don’t know what I’m talking about. Women actively pursuing you is an alien concept to you. I never said I was just walking around.
I know, it’s hard to pull yourself away from your video games and leave your trailer, but if you had good looks, women made advances. If not, well, I guess you are right. You don’t know what I’m talking about.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:02 pm
Greg, it was in a library.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:03 pm
Loyal………Just to let ya know some of the most respected and beloved preachers have done horrible things in their youth.
For many of these people when they see the errors of their way it gives them a first hand view of the situation and allows them to teach from a more real perspective. They actually understand a lot better of the thing they speak of and their audience realates better giving their words a deeper meaning.
This is true for preachers and is also true for hundereds of speakers that do motivation seminars to help others.
These people change lives. And the lives who have been helped could tell you first hand that not no hyprocite.
Not saying Jamies is that guy but am saying it’s wrong to call him a hyprocite right now.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:04 pm
BB I’m 55 and have a better job then you could ever wish and a beautiful wife. Keep dreaming you are walking around and randomly getting groped. You got called out and can’t admit your stupid lie. Women making advances aren’t grabbing guys between the legs unless you live in that trailer park you seem oh so familiar with.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:05 pm
Buc1987, well, I didn’t actively keep score, but it happened a lot. Maybe more, maybe slightly less.
People who have it know it. People what don’t deny it 😉
June 20th, 2019 at 2:06 pm
SCBucsFan, lol.
Whatever, dude. I’m 53 and retired early, and married a cheerleader. You keep grinding.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:10 pm
I’ll keep grinding. Spending years in college to get my advanced degrees put me behind. Hope you get lucky and someone gropes you this weekend.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:14 pm
Lots of perfect people on these pages.
If I didn’t know better I’d think you ‘holier than thou’ hypocrites have already been fitted for a set of eternal wings.
Wish I could live up to your moral expectations.
But I don’t have to, I’m not a football player that’s paid to knock the crap out of my fellow man.
Excuse me. I have to go puke …
June 20th, 2019 at 2:18 pm
Bonzai…….I’m not sure you should be accusing people of living in trailers. Which suggests they are trailer trash.
To anybody reading this the one who most resembles trailer trash is the one whose High Scool openly accepted students groping each other as normal behavior.
They would not of flew in my school….All I’m saying.

ENOUGH TALK OF THIS TALENT LESS LOSER, JUST LIKE THE PEOPLE ON THIS SITE

Why ya’ gotta use a crazy-arse photo of Jameis just because he talks about faith? -_-
June 20th, 2019 at 2:35 pm
Uh oh, someone mentioned god…. it’s a matter of time until the left wing liberals lose their mind.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:49 pm

@Greg
Not sure if you were being sarcastic. If not, feel free to look up the 1st amendment and free speech.

You guys need to lay off old pear shaped Petey aka Bonzai.
High school was VERY traumatic for him.

——————
Not true on so many levels. The NFL concluded he did it (pretty thoroughly and good for ALL. especially Winston, they didn’t share the details), and court been involved and concluded the same thing, we’d not be arguing on this. He messed up the very first time, the very first offseason out of team supervision; and got cold busted in lies just last year. Oh, tell the NFL and Winston they “took away his right to prove his innocence.” That’s a funny one. They said if he does something similar again, he could be permanently banned. He was given some things to accomplish or risk the full six games. Stop making stuff up. So because he didn’t drive drunk AND grope a female that night (only did one of them) that is to be commended? OMG, that funny. Thanks. Rough day.
June 20th, 2019 at 2:55 pm
Actually Dooosh books about dragons and elves are putting the good writers into mansions
June 20th, 2019 at 2:59 pm
@JimmyJack
How many of those religious folks are still doing shady stuff after they “found god” and are being paid for spreading the word of something which may or may not be true? Catholic Priest, embezzling Pastor, Philandering Preachers are all over the news.
@Bonzai
If he did not do anything wrong why did he settle for “hassling” the driver? Two cases against him settled is not a good look
My point is Jameis needs some PR coaching and public speaking classes. His Agent is failing at how the public sees him. Outside of Tampa and Fl everyone thinks he’s a bust.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:07 pm
Well, one thing is for sure, I didn’t enter into this foray until well into it all, so don’t blame me (you can, but I don’t care anyway). But all I can tell is all He11 broke loose over Winston’s character again today because he is up in bama talking to kids in school (probably not a good thing yet for Bucs image..they probably didn’ sponsor it). This ain’t PIT and Winston ain’t Big Ben.
This is why Winston is bad for business…most here on this site are Bucs fans and we’d normally be debating football-specific issues. But no…because of how Winston is, and what he is (a lyin’ immature poor-decision makin goofball…and possibly much worse), fans are divided. Imagine how the casual fans feel. It IS possible to have a QB who is as good (no not) as Winston AND not have all the baggage. Only two NFL QB suspended in NFL history if I’m correct for off field similar stuff…is this clown worth it? No.
I just got back from Washington today and spent three days with people from all over the country. Of couure, sports and especially the NFL comes up. I don’t see a lot of people on board with BA turning this team around, and when you mention Winston and Bucs, it usually brings laughter. Not good.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:08 pm
Good for Jameis!
June 20th, 2019 at 3:12 pm
As for religion, who cares…but a valid point brought up the biggest losers always grab onto to that when they are trying to talk their way out of trouble and into a better image. Yeah, ministers, etc all screw up like the rest of us. But it takes a really special SOB to do what Winston did and try to hide and lie his way out of it for years, and then at the same time, allude to alcohol being why, put it on the “confused” girls who was in the NFL’s eyes, the “victim” and then cling back to his God. Not buying it.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:13 pm
Man, some of you guys really put Jameis in a no-win situation. If he does something stupid, he’s a horrible person and should be cut. If he stays out of trouble and tries to make a positive impact in the lives of some kids, he’s a hypocrite and just trying to make himself look good. Are y’all related to my mother in law?
June 20th, 2019 at 3:21 pm
@SC
Yes indeed….. GOOD writers are making money on that crap……
…. others, not so much.
And ….“Retired” probably means a 5 figure AskGary settlement!
June 20th, 2019 at 3:24 pm
Loyaltotheend. The problem is you are talking about something you don’t understand. If you did understand Christain beliefs you would know you are wrong to call Winston a hyprocite.
You probably just have a different belief system which is fine. But in the eyes of Christians he is not a hyprocrite. Granttampa & SpiritualBucFan have ready explained.
Your statements are making this about more then Winston. You are attacking Christian faith.
To that I say you are on the wrong blog. This is Sports blog. There are plenty places on the web where you can debate religion til your 💓 is content.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:27 pm
Old School……Your comment is gold. Gold I tell ya.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:33 pm
Maga the fans have been divided. But we are coming back together. The division will be fully healed once we get results and production.
This season will be what will reunify the fans. Because we will win.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:41 pm
I heard he settled for $75,000.
By my math, he could have hired a couple hundred hookers to role play with him as an Uber driver he wanted to finger.
Just bad money management.
The boy needs an in with a pimp.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:45 pm

GO BUCS!!!!!
June 20th, 2019 at 3:56 pm
Good for Winston. He could cure cancer in the offseason. Don’t Care. Time to produce. Is this the year playoffs happen? Nothing else matters.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:57 pm
Jameis is great!! he is learning and getting better! Always give your thanks to God.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:57 pm
Let’s see results!
June 20th, 2019 at 4:02 pm
Actually Barbosa if he cured cancer I’d be OK with the Bucs going 0-16. Some things do matter.
June 20th, 2019 at 4:16 pm
I don’t care about his religion – he can believe whatever he wants. I’m not a fan of anyone indoctrinating kids though. He should preach morality, being a good citizen, helping others, and education. Leave religion out of it.
June 20th, 2019 at 4:18 pm
It’s the same stuff a lot of you hated Mike Evans for. Leave your personal beliefs out of football. And he is an ambassador for the game of football. Shouldn’t you guys want him to not be Uber-religious as well?
June 20th, 2019 at 4:21 pm
@Joe
This picture is hilarious
June 20th, 2019 at 4:51 pm
I support this version of Jameis.
I used to go to church but never believed it. I am an atheist and support good values and direction to our youth.
I believe that Jameis or Tim Tebow have a right to their feelings of a strong faith in Jesus Christ. If those things help those men to be good people to others and support good concepts to youth then I am for it.
Let the man be who he is in that video. Nothing wrong in my opinion.
June 20th, 2019 at 4:52 pm

He is still a terrible qb!
June 20th, 2019 at 9:25 pm
BucsFan90: religion is not the same thing as morality, and no religion owns it. As a society we aspire to be helpful, friendly and supportive as a people. Teach those things independently of any other agenda. You know, the things that make one a good person. Care, compassion… that sort of thing.

@Mort
Who gets to decide being caring and compassionate is better than than being competitive and ruthless (survival of the fittest in the modern world). The natural world could not possibly have the dictated the morals you uphold. Also when morality becomes subjective or culture-specific, one man’s terrorist becomes another man’s freedom fighter. So on what basis do you make your value judgements? In order for there to be an universal right or wrong, there would need to be an objective, universal doctrine. But I thought you were against indoctrinating kids.
June 21st, 2019 at 7:47 am

Let’s not pretend that religion is the source of all things bad. That might be your narrative, but it is simply not true.
Just look at our president to figure that out.

Sometimes you have to steal 2nd base to score a run, possibly he was receiving signs of interest, and alcohol can speed things up very quickly, where the 3 dates rule doesn’t apply. Having your buddies in the car probably not the best move cause then she might have felt like a hoe, and he blew his chance of a one night stand. Honestly i dont know what happen, but if men waited around for women to make the first move, humans would pretty much be extinct.

I go with the majority.95% of the world believes in some form of God. We win.
I agree with the vast majority of the World believing in God. I don’t think there is any reliable source that suggests it is anywhere close to 95%.
Now suggesting that only 5% of people may say they are Atheist that could be about correct.
Words like God, Atheism, spiritual belief, and religion don’t always translate the same in different cultures.
I am happy if you are a person that values all people who believe in some sort of God as part of your winning team. That valuing of others that have different ideas and religions than you is important.
Whether they are:
Christian
Islam
Hindu
Chinese Traditional
Buddhism
Etc.
Maybe we Nonreligious:
Secular
Agnostic
Atheists
Can also be accepted by others who are religious or believe in a God and not be ostracized from opinions on values.
