All those big voices in Jameis Winston’s ear, it’s almost unprecedented.
The man has four coaches and now we have another peek at how roles are divided.
Some of this isn’t new, but a chunk appeared fresh and certainly caught Joe’s attention.
Bucs beat writer Jenna Laine typed up a look at offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich for ESPN.com and noted how Bruce Arians’ quarterback foursome handled America’s Quarterback during the spring.
“I think you have to be connected at the hip,” said Leftwich, who is responsible for the mental part of the game while Christensen focuses on mechanics. It’s those two in the quarterback meeting rooms, along with longtime NFL assistant Tom Moore, who observes and relays everything to Arians, who purposely stays out to avoid Winston “hearing too many voices.”
So Lefwich works on Jameis’ mind. Christensen handles the body and the feet work, and Tom Moore studies the teaching and relays it to the Quarterback Whisperer who doesn’t want to talk too much.
Got it.
As Sage JoeBucsFan.com Ira Kaufman has said many times. “If I paid for Bruce Arians, I want Bruce Arians.”
Yes, Arians is in charge, but the Bucs aren’t getting Arians the playcaller, or Arians the micromanaging offensive guru as their quarterback learns a new system and tries to raise his game to an acceptable consistency.
Joe has a ton of faith in Arians, but Joe is awfully leery of the inevitable four-faucet messaging flowing through Jameis’ head amidst all the pressure he’s under in a contract year.

Arians is here to setup his friends and collect one last check. Bucs aren’t getting the coach who groomed Luck, Manning and others they are getting a Bobby Bowden like figurehead.

Another losing season for Jay-Miss and it will be time to move on. After this season the Bucs can walk away and say they tried, quite literally, everything to fix Jay-Miss.

Factually speaking, the history of the Buccaneers is nothing to write home about. If I’m not mistaken, in terms of record, they are one of the worst professional franchises in North American sports history. Being the best QB of an organization with so much failure isn’t saying much.
Besides, Jay-Miss is among league leaders in fumbles, interceptions, and throwing into tight windows. All are horrible stats to be a leader in especially when he had one of the best receiving groups in the entire NFL. I don’t want to hear nonsense about the offensive line either. The Kansas City Chiefs gave up nearly as many QB Hits as the Bucs and their QB won MVP.

insteal of all these coaches to fix all these problems, would it not just be easier to find a “real” QB????????????? The “real” fans have lost faith in the fold like a lawn chair qb!!!!!!!!

Arian’s job is to run the WHOLE team. He put Jameis in the very capable hands of Lefty, Clyde, and one of the best offensive minds in Moore. You’d be wrong if you think he isn’t involved with Winston’s development also. Dirk made the mistake of not paying enough attention to the defense leaving that all to the incompetent hands of Smith. Now some want BA to do the same?

I’m doubting the second contract for Jameis, and I don’t know if he can take the next step. I am rooting for clarity this fall- as playoffs and sting QB play may be tough to come by.
How do you pay all that salary cap to a QB is the worst in the division, and at best the middle of the pack? We could always resign Fitzmagic. Ext year and get that kind of inconsistency at a third or fourth the price.

While I am firmly of the belief that BA might very well have come here for one of the famous Buccaneer paid vacations, on this particular subject I don’t have any beef.
First it’s OTA’s not TC or preseason. Having Tom Moore oversee Leftwich and Clyde can’t be a bad thing. BA is training coaches as well as players–no problem with that.
As the season moves forward, if BA has the integrity and accountability he preaches, I believe he will be more involved.
I believe that right now, BA is in the “give them enough rope” mode. He’s gonna pull that string tighter as we move forward.
One can only hope.

so far Winston is NOT the most talented qb the bucs have ever had.. He is just the 1st pick in a draft that has not proved himself after 4 years.

jameis winston is throwing 5100 yard and 48 td with 8 interception. Like I say we making the playoffs and going all the way to the Superbowl

it makes perfect sense….
BA was brought in to “fix” the TEAM not winston….by “fixing” the TEAM, winston’s play will improve….
last year, winston had too many voices in his head….dirk, monken, djax, mike B.(who was unqualified) and the focus was all, “develop winston” instead of “develop the TEAM”…..
BA trust BL and CC and he’s taught them to be QB guru’s in their own right…..they are both working on completely different aspects of winstons game so lines wont get crossed and we wont have a tug of war for power going on like we did with dirk and monken….who’s calling plays this series….who’s calling plays for the game…..
last year the staff kept things a secret about who was doing what until the losing started…..
everyone has clear cut defined roles….
its a great approach by BA…..

Loyaltotheend Section 312 … “Arians is here to setup his friends and collect one last check”. Well, apparently you’ve come to the end once again, because there’s not much loyalty in that statement.
Arians is doing what a LEADER should do: selecting good people to work with him, giving them the resources & guidance that they need to get their job done, and then not micro-managing them, but being there IF they need/want his input. And oh yes, holding them ACCOUNTABLE for their PERFORMANCE. I applaud him for that because he’s doing precisely the one thing that the Bucs have needed for many years now … BUILDING A TEAM of not just quality players but quality coaches as well. I’m convinced that it’ll pay huge dividends down the line.
As for Jameis, all NFL QBs are critical cogs in the wheel, BUT … they’re still only ONE cog 7 they’re usually only as good as the TEAM around them. His completion percentage is quite good. His decision making, especially between the 20’s, is quite good also, most of the time. His main problem seems to be inconsistency brought on by occasional brain pharts. Turnovers & failure to punch it into the end zone too often result. If BA & his merry band can get Jameis to be more consistent he could have a very good year. If not, 2020 is supposed to be a good draft for QBs. Time will tell.

Yet I don’t think BA is just sitting behind Jameis all day in a beach chair drinking a cold one saying “Yeah Jameis that’s good buddy” all day.

I’m just hoping BA has his staff in line and I think he does. They should all be communicating the same messages and be focusing on specific areas of development for Winston that they have predetermined together via film. As long as all the coaches are in line with these messages then it can succeed. BA is playing CEO, as long as his underlings are pushing his message and buying in then it works. If Leftwich or another coach decides to start going off script that is where issues can occur.

I’m loyal to the Bucs as a fan, who’s in Section 312 6-10 times a year. Coaches and players come and go.
Arians has to prove to me that handing off the offense to a coordinator who averaged under 14 points a game in Arizona last year in 9 games is a smart move.
Trust me I’ll be here rooting for this team longer than Arians or Winston are here

I might be mistaken, but I don’t think that BA was the Cardinals coach last year when Byron Leftwich was OC. Now if you’re talking about 2017 when Leftwich was Arians’ QB coach, that’d be a different thing. Cards offense was terrible all year long, and were 1-6 before Leftwich took over, and were averaging 13 PPG when he took over. Rookie QB Josh Rosen was shell-shocked I think … 55% completions, 11 TDs, 14 INTs, 10 fumbles & 45 sacks in 14 games (he got beaten up IOW), although he did win their 3 games. #32 offense in BOTH yards & points scored.
You might say that the Cards 2018 offense was the mirror image of the Bucs 2018 defense. Not a lot to work with, with WR Larry Fitzgerald & RB David Johnson being the key exceptions. And yes, it was the result of several years of bad drafting.

until the glazers earn respect which is never going to happen every regime they bring in is just going through the motions and setting up a nice retirement… bucs are a irrelevant small market franchise that the league carries with revenue sharing. there is no desire to be great from owners so basement titles and excuses is the best you can hope for. reality is truly a beotch!

The dynamics of the QB room will change as the season gets closer. BA is doing the right thing at the moment. Moore said he was only temporary. I like this approach with Winston.

I don’t see the problem. The QB coaches job is to work on mechanics and footwork. The O Coordinator’s job is to make sure that he and the QB are on the same page and get into the details of the X’s and O’s. The head coaches job is to manage the team through his staff. Sounds pretty straightforward to me.
