“In Big Games, That’s When I Like To Show Up”
June 20th, 2019Bucs fans who have long howled that former Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy didn’t show up in big games (not exactly accurate) will likely enjoy hearing the words of Bucs defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh.
The Bucs on Wednesday released the latest edition of “The Current,” an in-house produced knockoff of “Hard Knocks.” It is very well done.
Suh was featured in this edition and not only was the subject interesting considering yesterday’s news but so was the timing.
And the messaging.
Just hours before the video was released, there was GMC on FS1 complaining how Suh is wearing No. 93, as if GMC was a victim of a crime and the Bucs broke into his house in the dark of the night and stole his Batman gear.
And while GMC focused on what he thought was a personal insult and dissing by his former team, the image Suh displayed in “The Current” couldn’t have been more opposite.
(Yes, Joe knows the timing of this was all coincidence albeit a delicious coincidence).
Suh explained he’s about making plays in big games and there was audio of him telling teammates how much he will help them out, all they have to do is ask.
“When the time is needed, in big games, that’s when I like to show up,” Suh said. “I think I have pretty much proven that throughout my career.”
The video later shows a clip of Suh on the sidelines from last year telling a Rams staffer, “The thing is I don’t care because I don’t have any swag. I just make plays.”
And in a cool exchange from his brief stint of underwear football with the Bucs, there was audio of Will Gholston and Suh talking between hits on the sled.
“We’re trying to learn from you too,” Gholston tells Suh.
“I will tell you everything I’ve got,” Suh replied.
“I like the way you play, to be honest with you,” Gholston said.
Suh told Gholston, “All it is is a mentality.”
Joe has maintained for weeks the Bucs replaced GMC with Suh not so much for production but Bucco Bruce Arians is determined to jolt the locker room from a passive “We suck again” mentality to a, “We may not win but you will feel us every morning you wake up” vibe.
Joe thinks it is fair to guess Bucs fans won’t see Suh go on national television and embarrass himself complaining about someone wearing his old number whenever he leaves Tampa.
That was a terrible look for GMC and did nothing but fuel his loud critics if not cultivate new ones.

You have to show up in the not so big games to get to the big games. How many big games did the Bucs play while GMac was here? It was those not so big games that he routinely did not show up in.

Talk radio here in NYC called GMC a egotistical whiner based on his interview in the short time they talked about him
June 20th, 2019 at 8:22 am
September 12 is a big game, I tell you that. Let’s set the tone for the rest of the division, conference and league to see.

Face it everyone – tmax is/was right all along.
June 20th, 2019 at 8:28 am
@Joe:
“…GMC was a victim of a crime and the Bucs broke into his house in the dark of the night and stole his Batman gear.”
Cold Joe, really cold… but very funny!!!

Joe—
“Joe thinks it is fair to guess Bucs fans won’t see Suh go on national television and embarrass himself complaining about someone wearing his old number whenever he leaves Tampa.”
You know what would be an interesting bit of journalism? It’d be interesting to research all the team numbers Suh had as a professional football player and see if, after he left the team(s), if those numbers were ever re-issued to another player…and, if they were, did Suh ever respond in a butt-hurt way?
My guess is that his response was [insert “crickets” GIF here].
June 20th, 2019 at 8:46 am
Well, what do you know…the Rams have already re-issued Suh’s #93 jersey number to Marquise Copeland.
Suh to complain about it…uh, never.

Can’t wait to read tmaxcon’s take on this! Finna be epic!
June 20th, 2019 at 9:20 am
The problem is the Bucs have to have a big game first
June 20th, 2019 at 9:32 am
With only 16 games, EVERY game is a big game….last I checked.
June 20th, 2019 at 9:48 am
I do think it was uncalled for to give Suh his number when they could’ve chosen any number, but at the same time who cares.
GMC is gone, Suh is here. It’s as easy as that.

Joe Says: “Joe has maintained for weeks the Bucs replaced GMC with Suh not so much for production but Bucco Bruce Arians is determined to jolt the locker room from a passive “We suck again” mentality to a, “We may not win but you will feel us every morning you wake up” vibe.”
+1!

Suh… “i show up in the big games”.
Bucs ” we rarely play in big games”.
I guess we won’t see much from Suh this year
June 20th, 2019 at 10:01 am
I was a GMC supporter, but not anymore. He has handled this off-season so childishly and selfishly that I feel like a total fool for backing him all these years. I don’t know if I can bring myself to say that tmax was right, but I would be willing to admit that he wasn’t as far wrong as I once thought.
June 20th, 2019 at 10:10 am
the only “big game” GMC played in was vs dallas when both teams were fighting for a playoff spot and processed to post 0’s in the stat sheet…..
the “lets go out and have fun” game…..that was his big game on a national stage and he blow it…..
GO BUCS!!!!!
June 20th, 2019 at 10:21 am
Good call, BucBoi!
Hate the inherent softness on the defense. It’s just awful. Rather lose with 11 guys that can’t play than a bunch of whiny/egotistical guys just wanting to have fun. No more dancing in the 4th quarter when you’re ass is getting whooped by 20+ points.
Hooray!
This team is the charmin toilet paper of the nfl- other teams love our softness- and wipe their butts with us on the field.
June 20th, 2019 at 10:21 am
Every game where a stop is needed to finish the game is a BIG game and that is what he’s referring to. Make a play in the 4th to close it out. That is something this D hasn’t done in a very long time.
June 20th, 2019 at 10:30 am
Was GMC worse st stopping the run once he tore both biceps? I feel like he has the get off, and teams run right by him.
I just wish he could stack better, and not apologize to opposing QBs in love action on MNF.
So pumped we have a mentally tough DT wearing 93 now.
McCoy is a wonderful human being, but lacks the heart/dog in him to be a warrior on the field. Sure he plays hurt, but he also is the one constant to softness/losing/bad D.

We replaced a little boy with a real man
June 20th, 2019 at 12:18 pm
Justin Watson is gonna get on the field as WR this year. Very excited. Dude could turn into a beast.
June 20th, 2019 at 12:51 pm
What an embarrassing crybaby
June 20th, 2019 at 1:05 pm
big games? the McCoy-era bucs? did i miss something?
June 20th, 2019 at 1:11 pm
Joe you should know McCoy is all about self branding and any news of him is good news to him. Good or bad all he cares about is using this platform to self promote. Enough already. wheres my daily dose of panic?
June 20th, 2019 at 1:47 pm
Now the Ray’s are leaving… damm you gerald McCoy
June 20th, 2019 at 2:14 pm
If there is an opening for a spot as a tackling dummy, count me the f out!
June 20th, 2019 at 2:31 pm
So Suh is like D-Jax – he’ll let the coaches know when the moment is big enough to show up.
Sounds wonderful!
June 20th, 2019 at 2:34 pm
Arians is the second best coach in the league aside from belichet. These players are going to play out of their minds for him. Suh is going to wreck guys this season
June 20th, 2019 at 3:19 pm
Consider me cultivated, and that batman line was hilarious.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:33 pm
GMC hits softer then a CBD joint
June 20th, 2019 at 4:22 pm
TMax was right all along. GMC’s immaturity and victim mentality was on full display in that embarassing interview. He banked a lot of $$$ from the Bucs and never did squat so his delusion that he was one of the better Bucs players was insulting to studs like Lynch, Barber, Brooks, Sapp, Selmon and Rice. Good riddance.
June 20th, 2019 at 5:11 pm
Every single NFL game is huge, what’s he talking about?
June 20th, 2019 at 5:32 pm
@stonedbuc, LOL! yep….he totally looks like the goods, which makes the lack of impact all the more frustrating.
June 20th, 2019 at 6:10 pm
GMC lost all credibility in my house! If Hardy Nickerson, who taught Brooks, Sapp, Lynch and company to be professionals, as told by the Don himself, is not in the Krewe of honor, what the hell business crybaby GMC has there? Lost all respect for the dude … and I was a supporter. Good riddance!
June 20th, 2019 at 6:33 pm
The Bucs’ defense had their best games when G’waah was hurt and out of the line up. G’waah is the Billy Madison of the NFL. “At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
June 20th, 2019 at 8:01 pm
I’d rather have Richard Simmons beside me in a back alley brawl than Gerald McCoy.
He’s a complete b*tch. That BSPN interview was a total reinforcement of what we’ve all seen on the field for so long. I hate to insult the guy like that but holy crap, his mentality is weaker than circus lemonade.
Where’s your highlight reel McCoy? 8-9 years and you got like three minutes of bullsh*t garbage time plays.
Self-proclaiming, wanna-be, poser.
“The Panthers took me to lunch and I felt wanted.” – This is football, you b*tch! You were supposed to be the leader.
Never seen something so embarrassing from an “elite” nfl player.
June 20th, 2019 at 8:05 pm
Gerald hits the showers with his panties on in Carolina!
I guarantee you a real leader like Luke K. is pissed that this pre-teen little girl just entered his locker room.
