“I’m One Of The Best Players To Ever Play In The Organization”
June 19th, 2019Gerald McCoy feels disrespected by the Bucs and he wants everyone to know it.
Why else would the guy jump on national television for a tell-all style interview when little else is happening in the NFL world?
“It’s Tampa Bay, you know, and I’m one of the best players to ever play in the organization. I’m going to say it. Usually I wouldn’t, but I’m gonna say it,” McCoy told the FS1 audience this morning.
McCoy trumpeted his greatness when expressing his disappointment that Ndamukong Suh was given his number. And the fact Suh signed a one-year contract made it worse, per McCoy.
“It kind of shows the respect and how they feel about me. I think it does,” McCoy said, noting guys like Ronde Barber and John Lynch had their numbers formally or informally retired when they left the Bucs.
The respect for McCoy wasn’t there, he claims. “That was a big part of the separation between me and Tampa period. All offseason, it just wasn’t there.”
McCoy moaned about how coaches didn’t call him after they were hired, and he put Jason Licht in the non-communicative bunch. Joe’s first thought was, ‘Ok, how bout you pick up the phone, Gerald, and call the new head coach and D-coordinator — you know, the kind of thing a team leader would do.’
Odd on both sides. They’re both to blame for any friction.
Strangely enough, McCoy said the Bucs made him an offer to return, one he declined. He wouldn’t call it a pay cut or a restructure. “A little bit of both, not really technically restructure.”
You can watch the full McCoy interview below:

Boohoo sad story…
June 19th, 2019 at 4:52 pm
B-B-B-B-BUTT HURT!!!
June 19th, 2019 at 4:54 pm
He needs to get the bitter bears out of his butt
June 19th, 2019 at 4:56 pm
He’s not wrong. He’ll be in the Ring of Honor one day and deservingly so. The Bucs failed Gerald McCoy and wasted his prime years, not the other way around.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:01 pm
McCoy “I will never say anything bad about the Bucs”
That didn’t last long.
Hey mccoy!!! I don’t remember Peyton Manning acting this way when he left the colts. You moved to a new team….why are you talking about the past
June 19th, 2019 at 5:02 pm
Didn’t bother to watch the interview Joe. Have seen quite enough of this joke of a player to last me another 100 NFL seasons. Dude is a joke and you are bringing yourself and this blog down by having post after post on this joke. Maybe you will stop soon but I doubt it…. it’s good for clicks I guess.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:06 pm
Ok…. It’s official. I’m a GMC hater. This guy is such a diva. The over the top arms wide open stare to the heavens. “It’s Tampa Bay.”? What the F is that supposed to mean? What a joke. This guy will be out of football in a couple years. He’s soft as cotton and is handling this whole situation about as poorly as possible. Did he ever stop and think that maybe he hasn’t played up to his contract? That he’s barely starting material the past few seasons. Ridiculous. I’m done with this clown and I can’t wait to play the Panthers.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:08 pm
GMC is a crybaby. Crying about disrespect. It’s the NFL
June 19th, 2019 at 5:10 pm
Move on gerald. We did. See you week 2
June 19th, 2019 at 5:10 pm
Please stop with this. GMC NEVER made one player around him better. GMC has had 2 meaningful 4th quarter plays in his entire career. Never once did this team get the lead near the end of the game and GMC took over to kill the drive and ice the game. Never. Please prove me wrong.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:11 pm
Mike. The colts didn’t mishandle Manning the way the Bucs did McCoy. Listen I agree GMC was not worth his 13 mil his play has declined the past few years it’s just not smart Buisness by the Bucs an the way they handled that situation. I like the mentality that suh brings but what happens if suh or vea goes down injuries happen an vea missed games last year we don’t have depth if injuries happen
June 19th, 2019 at 5:14 pm
So glad he is gone can’t wait for Ali Marpet and co. Kick his ass and the Panthers!
June 19th, 2019 at 5:14 pm
Freaking guy calls himself a pillar for Tampa Bay……..Being a pillar of sh!t is nothing to be proud of you little b!tch. And he come on here gloating about it. You are a freaking loser on the field dude.
And guess what? Nobody in the Front Office cares if you feel disrespected. Nobody freaking wanted you dude.
Have fun losing in Carolina. We are glad you are gone. Nobody wants you here no more. Go to he!!.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:16 pm
Ian Beckles said your own teammates called you a p$$$$.
That’s why Bruce didn’t want you. He wants to win. Nobody wants you in Tampa. We are happy you are gone.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:21 pm
Speaking as someone who has been a McCoy fan of sorts…
Gerald…. instantly off the top of my head… i come up with 18 guys better..
Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Barber, Alstott, Rice, Kelly, Dunn, K Johnson, Abraham, Gruber, Wilder, Galloway, Selmon, Giles, D Williams, Green, M Evans….
Anyone want to add more?….
No, Gerald.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:27 pm
One of the best in the history of the organization? That is the biggest pile of BS that Mcsofty has ever spewed. Dude was a crybaby that never lived up to his draft status or salary. With him gone maybe we can finally fill a massive hole on the defense.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:30 pm
Cry me a river McIcecream. If you said one of the most OVERPAID Buccaneers of all time, we could all agree.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:31 pm
Geraldine, don’t ever say your name in the same sentence as Lynch and Barber again. You’re a JV player compared to them.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:31 pm
David Logan, Ricky Bell
There… that’s 20.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:33 pm
BA did his homework on Gerald. if he felt he was valuable to the team he would still be a Buc. Simple as that. His salary has essentially out kicked his coverage. You want to be the highest player on the team, well this is what happens when your level of play starts to decline and you get older. Better players than McCoy have been let go while they could still play, but not at that elite level. Why is this a surprise to him?
He mentions Barber and Lynch. He may want to be reminded how often those players were in the playoffs, and how often they elevated their game in key situations. Why was he not a captain last year? Why was no longer voted to the Pro Bowl? His tenure with the team coincides with one of the worst 10 year stretches we have ever had. He was a very good player. Not great IMO, and the more he opens his mouth the worse he sounds. He sounds like a diva, which is what his worst critics also said he was. Move on Gerald.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:35 pm
He’s right
June 19th, 2019 at 5:39 pm
I was a bit of a McCoy fan. Now, I’m just happy we moved on…
Different coaches want different players and need alternative skill sets. Don’t take it personally…it’s a business. Even if he feels that way… he should not be talking like that to the media. It just makes him look soft.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:39 pm
Wouldn’t put him before
Leroy,Sapp, brooks, lynch, barber, rice,Gruber,
Alstott,wilder,Giles,hardy
June 19th, 2019 at 5:40 pm
Awww hell naw it don’t work that way Joe, new coaches should call team leaders, like it or not….I don’t care any more …he gone and I hope he goes pro-bowl and all-pro next year and I’m glad he picked those stinking panthers to play for so he can dog out our inadequate o/line twice this season! And it is shameful how we now yell to ” fix the trenches” and Shu probably demanded #93 or there would be no deal! Our weakness starts at the top!
June 19th, 2019 at 5:42 pm
@ Joe
“Odd on both sides”… I disagree. BA didn’t want Gerold McCoy and it was extremely obvious from day one of the new regime. He was told to stay away from One Buc Palace and they attempted for months to trade him. I don’t find anything odd about it. He was finished here and there was zero reason to discuss anything.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:44 pm
McCoy couldn’t hold Larry Muckers jock strap… good… OK… very good is all McCoy ever was….
June 19th, 2019 at 5:45 pm
Destinjohnny,,
How on the HELL could i forget Hardy?
We are up to at least 21.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:53 pm
Wow! I figured Gerald McCoy might feel some resentment over the way his departure was handled by the Bucs. However, has McCoy forgotten the NFL is a business and that it is really all about production and his hasn’t been up to a $13 million salary of late? Moreover, has he forgotten the heart-to-heart with players at the Pro Bowl, which McCoy said he respected, who told him to make the Bucs better he needed to become “the guy” to make the big play in the fourth quarter, big plays that never materialized? Sure he was a pillar in the community, but lots of people are who don’t make $13 million to do their day jobs. And, as far as being one of the best players to ever play in Tampa Bay, well I won’t bother to list them, but McCoy better believe there is a long list ahead of him and many of them are not household names.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:55 pm
Big Hog you entire post is shameful if you call yourself a fan of the Buccaneers.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:58 pm
Ellis Wyms > Gmc
June 19th, 2019 at 5:58 pm
He led a defence that lost (except when he was injured). Has any Buc been paid more?
As a self proclaimed leader of the defence where was the accountability?
Simple fact is that he was at the centre of a culture of losing.
June 19th, 2019 at 5:59 pm
What a lil’ beee yotch. So nauseating to see such a grown man, that we paid over $110 million bucks to in a no state income tax state….act like, rather …BE such a stomach-churning pusswaa. Disgusting, known, sad. No idea what his wife is doing.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:06 pm
Miss you Gerald..
June 19th, 2019 at 6:07 pm
Weak minded and sorry and joebucsfan still afraid to say it. No one usually have to say they are the best at something because the bragging is done for them. Dude is pathetic and is is one of the best d tackles not not one of the best players to suit up for this team. Hes a good player but always ruins it by talking.
Idiot someone tell me how an active player gets to say no one should take his number after he leaves? It ain’t retired yet so why is it off limits?
He basically is mad at the franchise for a new coaches decision he’s a big dumb animal
June 19th, 2019 at 6:08 pm
I’m not sure he’s a top 25 all time Buc…
Dude comes off as a whiner
June 19th, 2019 at 6:08 pm
I was pretty neutral on this dude at first, but I’m starting to lean towards the folks who despise him. He acts like the ex girlfriend who just refuses to go quietly into the night…
June 19th, 2019 at 6:11 pm
Joe that’s fair. I try not to be a D in my comments. But this topic tilted me pretty hard.
Excuse my vulgarness.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:11 pm
Adding to the awesome list … Cedric Browne, Erving Randall, David Lewis, Batman Woods, Cecil the Diesel Johnson, Randy Crowder, Booger, Joe Jurivicios, list is loong Gerald!! Your sin was not being Warren, but dude, get in line, you might be a top 75 all time Buc. I think so far we are up to 30+ and you are nowhere to be found!!
June 19th, 2019 at 6:15 pm
I mean i’d say he’s in the top 75.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:16 pm
He was definitely better than Gruber!!
June 19th, 2019 at 6:19 pm
He is NOT one of the greatest Bucs of all time
I went to the first game in 1976, I am 50 years old and have watched EVERY Bucs game ever played
I have lived this team for over 40 years and he is what I would equate to a second tier player, say Batman Wood, Mark Cotney from the old days
Maybe Shelton Quarles from the mid recent past
Just because you get drafted high doesn’t mean you are great
His yaking is making his time here even more obtrusive
Pardon me while I go change his diaper
Disrespect is what he is doing right now, spewing the behind the scenes to get sympathy
Wait til he gets trucked time and again this season Cat fans
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
June 19th, 2019 at 6:22 pm
LOL
June 19th, 2019 at 6:22 pm
not worth 13 million
a puss on the field
not a ring of honor candidate
never dominated in a game
now we taking offense, he should have taken offense and get sacks
another diva good riddance
June 19th, 2019 at 6:24 pm
I’m putting myself in moderation before Joe puts me there with a response. 🤬
June 19th, 2019 at 6:24 pm
He’s been butt hurt since Jameis came and took the spotlight from him.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:26 pm
He has really shined a lot of light on himself this offseason as a FA. Making 3 very public stops to Cleveland, Baltimore and finally Carolina and doing all these interviews. Quoting he is one of the best Bucs of all time. Going into a 1 year deal this could very well blow up in his face if he has a quiet season in Carolina. Honestly, I hope it does as his head and ego seem to be having a hard time fitting through doors. I love to see egos pop.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:26 pm
did warren sapp ever apologize after hitting qb
June 19th, 2019 at 6:28 pm
About time he said what really was on his mind. And he speaks the truth. The Bucs a cheap a$$ organization with no class. Giving away 93 was a dusty-a$$ move it shows how low they really are.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:29 pm
Take it like a man GMC, you were let go. Be thankful you pocketed a ton of cash. What a cliche “I wanted to go to a team that has a bunch of guys working towards the common goal of winning.” Blah blah blah…. I can’t wait for the Bucs to kick the crap out of Carolina this year.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:32 pm
The past is behind and the future is ahead of us……..lets move on !
June 19th, 2019 at 6:33 pm
This fool is not allowed to compare himself to Ronde and Lynch….hopefully more people are realizing what a diva this whiny bitch McCoy really is
June 19th, 2019 at 6:38 pm
Tmax…. calling Tmax…
June 19th, 2019 at 6:44 pm
It all started Gerald when you played crap football last year showing you’re in decline. If we hadn’t of been up against the cap, and you had offered to restructure in your contract in good faith you’d probably still be here.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:45 pm
Screw him….
He’s gone WTF is worrying about his old team for? I imagine this is what he’s bringing to Carolina. Good Luck with your Poor Me game plan, Gerald.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:47 pm
Please stop posting about Panther players.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:49 pm
He’s a PANTHER now & he’s burned any bridges back to here for retirement or anything else. PLEEEEEZ let it go Joe.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:52 pm
So now we have proof that the Bucs did offer him some sort of restructure and he refused it. Proving once again his leader persona is as phony as his play is soft. He cared nothing about the team only “Me Me Me”. Now you see the real GMC. Im glad they gave Suh his number. 1 of the greatest of all time? Mentioning himself along side Barber and Lynch? LMAO. Allow me to repeat. LMAO.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:55 pm
You’d figure a multi millionaire could figure out it’s just business.
Apparently not. Move on dog. Suh is our guy now. And Vea.
Love the one you’re with. Bye.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:57 pm
Yeah- he’s up there with Ronde, Derrick, John, Mike, Warren, Hardy, Mark and James.
Yeah. One of the best. Haha.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:57 pm
LMAO here. Give’em somethin to chew on. Hell, we ain’t winning so let’um
drown that hate somewheres. Guess we will be chewin on GMC for a while huh?
LMAO again here. I guess ole Lovie sayin, Whew, I’m glad they got another scapegoat and started givin me a break! Man, I sure hope we start winning guys.
Because if we don’t, next season we will have a couple more fresh..scapegoats to chew on. Please Win Bucs. So we can stop the bleeding.
June 19th, 2019 at 6:58 pm
All the McCoy haters are too stupid to realize what we’re gonna miss. I understand moving on from him, but Licht butchered the whole thing. Now we’ve got an angry McCoy, on a superior team in our division, and we just hired a guy that spends more time cultivating his image than coaching.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:00 pm
Holy hell…can I go one day without reading a Gerald McCoy article. Turn the page Joe! He’s gone! Let’s focus on current Bucs, and not ghosts of Christmas Past.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:00 pm
Not mark- Mike as in the BMF EVANS.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:00 pm
Ron Rivera is probably regretting his decision every day that goes by. Huge mistake by the Panthers. Get out now before it’s too late. He will wreck that organization in a heartbeat.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:01 pm
Superior team? Who? The Panthers? F that. That’s that BS. We’ll see
June 19th, 2019 at 7:01 pm
An angry McCoy? LMAO. Thats almost as funny as him saying hes one of the greatest Bucs ever.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:03 pm
Most of our division games are decided by one defining play per game. Hardly evidence of superiority.
One play. Maybe two.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:07 pm
another thing
That PROBOWL is a POPULARITY contest. Also you were signed as our franchise player for over $112 million bucks. You were our featured face of the franchise and that’s why you made it. They try to at least pick one player from each and every team and you were the uno defacto
nothin more nothin less
June 19th, 2019 at 7:08 pm
He shows his lack of intelligence every time he opens his mouth. It’s sad that every time it just makes him look worse. Spoiled brat, now rich spoiled brat. The Bucs paid him a King’s ransom and they don’t owe him anything. Carolina is probably trying to find a way to rescind that contract as we speak.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:10 pm
Westernbuc…what precisely are we going to miss?
June 19th, 2019 at 7:10 pm
Week two lol of course he’s confident. He’s gonna have a defense that’s going to carry him. The panthers beat down Tampa without him, if they win it won’t be because McCoy. I hope they boo him when he enters Ray Jay. You messed up Gerald. The fan base did respect you until you said all this crap. Now we’re glad your gone. Chump. Man this dude is soft. And btw those guys you listed that had their jersey retired won a Super Bowl. You didn’t even make the playoffs. And now I hope you never join the ring of honor.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:11 pm
What a loser! Bucs paid this diva over $100 million and this is the best he can do.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:13 pm
Oh and btw I grew up watching Lynch, Brooks, Sapp, Rice, Barber play. Not once did I question their toughness or their desire to win. But I question Gerald’s almost every game. How dare you compare yourself to them. Stats don’t tell the whole story, stop hiding behind them.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:17 pm
Batgirl needs to quit whining about his former team that overpaid him all those years.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:20 pm
He is in his feelings. He has valid points but we know he wasn’t the aggressive player the new coaching staff wanted. It’s simple. Jason doesn’t make the decisions no more that’s why he didn’t reach out. He’s the official fall guy for all things that happens to the Bucs this offseason and upcoming year.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:22 pm
Westernbuc
You mean superbowl winner two time coach of the year? You are not very bright are you? You are definitely one of the tampa fans people make fun of.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:23 pm
He should’ve brought Rick Stroud on there to sing the blues with him.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:23 pm
He wanted to go to a team with a bunch of guys all working towards the same goal. The only goal this dude had in mind is the pro bowl
Geraldine going to a team this late learning a new scheme and a 3-4 at that. He makes it so easy to root against him, saints were the most hated but nothing more I want to see than the Bucs making the playoffs after getting rid of the guy claiming to be one of the greatest bucs ever but going to a divison rival thinking he’s going to stick it to his old team. I think he’ll find that BA teams are tough and in week 2 he wont be going full speed in a new scheme, I hope this blows up in his face
June 19th, 2019 at 7:24 pm
Is McCoy’s house for sale in Tampa ?….
June 19th, 2019 at 7:31 pm
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
How about a Waaa Towelete
GMC Lovers watch close this year This is HIS LAST YEAR
June 19th, 2019 at 7:32 pm
He is who many of us thought he was.
They paid you over $100 million dollars for 9 years of dancing around on the sidelines while the rest of your team was getting their nuts kicked in on the field.
If GMC was truly viewed in the organization and locker room as the pillar of the team, then is it really a surprise that this team has been a laughing stock for the last decade?
On a side note. This vegan diet will end his career half way through this season.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:34 pm
I’ve always been a supporter of Gerald… but Vincente just about executed a near perfect mic drop. Could not have said it any better myself. Comparing yourself to guys who were staples in a decade long run of elite defense and consistent playoff appearances when you never even sniffed one playoff game and never took over a game period… then you join the arch nemesis and go on national TV blathering about it? That ain’t it, chief.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:41 pm
No you’re not Gerald. Sorry. Anyone who’s watched the tape knows you’re an average DT. Always have been. Oh, and you loaf. A lot.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:46 pm
You fools are finally seeing the real Gerald. Talking crap about his old team weeks after signing with a new one. Get a life Gerald. The Bucs don’t owe you anything. You were first team all pro ONE time. That’s your only meaningful stat.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:48 pm
Butthurt.
Buy McCoy for what he is worth and sell him for what he thinks he’s worth, and you’d be a rich man.
Butthurt.
And proof the Bucs made the right decision.
He will never, ever be in the Ring of Honor.
June 19th, 2019 at 7:49 pm
“If I’d had his size and speed, I’d have been banned from the league.” – Warren Sapp
Nuff said.
June 19th, 2019 at 8:00 pm
Pretty sure we had a kick more legendary than GMC . WHAT WAS KICKERS NAME???? Automatica???
June 19th, 2019 at 8:03 pm
One word for gerald McCoy………….BUM!
June 19th, 2019 at 8:05 pm
all those guys won a super bowl and were in the playoffs. if mccoy was so good why didnt he at least make the playoffs. his record speaks for itself.
June 19th, 2019 at 8:06 pm
nice look and outfit gerald…you look mad funny bruhhh…
and…
with that commentary , i’d venture to say you just worked your way out of your ring of honor potential slot…your number does not belong hanging in the building ever my duuuuude!
June 19th, 2019 at 8:16 pm
also shannon sharpe could have not so much respect for gerald from how they were interacting…
he was trying to bait him tho…they all kinda were
June 19th, 2019 at 8:18 pm
What a pile of crap…so glad he’s gone. Thanks for taking him Carolina
June 19th, 2019 at 8:21 pm
also lynch has a highlight reel of crushing hits to his name…and ronde has a ton too..capped off by the interception to shut down the vet and go to the superbowl…
gerald you got nothing bruhhh…nothing but funny outfits and colored hair and comic book idols…wtf…
it’s easy to swap out batman for the hulk…
also from what it seemed like, sharpe doesn’t think you’re gonna make it in the trenches as a vegan mohegan
June 19th, 2019 at 8:21 pm
Not even close. Michael Spurlock made a bigger impact. This cry baby will never be remembered
June 19th, 2019 at 8:31 pm
Was always a fan of him while he was here. Now he is coming across as bitter and two-faced. To put his own name in there with some if our greats leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Good riddance.
June 19th, 2019 at 8:45 pm
It’s been fun proving my point for two or three years but it’s come to the point where he is doing it for me and taking the challenge right out of it. I’m going to give you one example of greatness because he is my ALL TIME FAVORITE BUCCANEER. Hardy Nickerson came to the Bucs during a time similar to what we are in right now. Not only the D but the entire team was bad. We were in great need of a culture change because this team was considered pansies which is an 80’s term for pu$$y’s. He came here and led this D to freaking greatness and changed the entire culture of the D. Hardy if you read JBF you are the one who laid the path for The future and I’ll always be one of your biggest fans. McCoy if you read this Nickerson IS an example of greatness!
June 19th, 2019 at 8:47 pm
““It’s Tampa Bay, you know, and I’m the highest paid player to ever play in the organization. I’m going to say it. Usually I wouldn’t, but I’m gonna say it,” McCoy told the FS1 audience this morning.”
What was his name again? MeCoy?
June 19th, 2019 at 8:51 pm
This guy is such a joke
June 19th, 2019 at 8:53 pm
Best in the organization??? Really? He had his best games in the Pre-season and he was never there in the 4th quarter. I cant think of one game saving sack or splash play he has ever had.
What little respect I had for the big baby is gone, I hope we whoop his ass now.
I think I will make Big Baby signs for his next game in RJ
June 19th, 2019 at 9:02 pm
I’ve never owned a Buc’s jersey, but I’m going to order a #93 SUH in red and maybe creamsicle.
Too bad I’ll have to travel to North Carolina to show it to MeCoy.
June 19th, 2019 at 9:02 pm
Part of being a Black man in America and living on your terms, people will disrespect you and degrade the good work you did when you leave. It’s the nature of the beasts
June 19th, 2019 at 9:06 pm
He just confirmed my belief that if he goes in the Ring of Honor then so should Aguayo. Heck, might as well put in Sabby as well.
June 19th, 2019 at 9:11 pm
Gerald said the following and he is 100% correct. “I have no hard feelings towards Tampa at all, but there comes a point in time when you have to show some respect and I didn’t feel like they showed me the respect I deserved. That I earned”.
“I have no hard feelings towards Tampa at all, but there comes a point in time when you have to show some respect and I didn’t feel like they showed me the respect I deserved. That I earnThe fact he was cut is not that big a deal. It happens to anyone who hangs on long enough or whose value is less than their cost. The big deal is the nasty disrespectful way it was handled for a guy who played well for many years, sacrificed his body and never conducted himself in a way that embarrassed the organization..
June 19th, 2019 at 9:17 pm
You know that stupid Baby Trump blimp? We should get a StayPuft Marshmallow Man blimp wearing #93 and McCoy’s name to float above the home game against Carolina.
Because dude is S-O-F-T and that is now seriously obvious.
June 19th, 2019 at 9:23 pm
C2,
They showed him the ultimate respect by signing him to a $95 Million SECOND contract. What he gave back was dancing, crying, whining, laughing, quiting, clown show.
June 19th, 2019 at 9:25 pm
LOL!!!
June 19th, 2019 at 9:38 pm
The dude never came up big when it mattered and as for his recent statement. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
June 19th, 2019 at 9:42 pm
It’ll be a fine day in Joe Bucs Fan World when the names of McCoy, Aguayo and Bennett are never mentioned again.
June 19th, 2019 at 9:43 pm
McCoy is one of the best to ever play for the team, there’s no doubt about that. He’s obviously not in the top tier of guys like Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Barber, Selmon, Rice, Alstott, etc – but I’d put in him in that next category of guys like Gruber, Nickerson, Giles, Dunn, Batman Woods.
GRRRR!!!! BATMAN?!?!!!!! GRRRR!!!! I HATE COMIC BOOKS!!!! GRRRR!!!! IM SO ANGRY!!!! SOFT!!!! ANGRY!!!! GRRRR!!!!
June 19th, 2019 at 10:04 pm
rod is correct…
he is in the second tier of great players we had…all those other 2nd tier guys had bigger moment tho…maybe not gruber as much…and if dunn stayed a buc he’d have potentially had like 10k rushing yards and been in the ring too…
mccoy leaves zero memories except like red hair, dancing, disappearing in the 4th, comics and apologies to ben…things you just wanna forget with football…
essentially he’s a fuggin donut…a zero…no hero…when it comes to big moments etc…
he’s more like the joker than batman…
and now we got the hulk…
June 19th, 2019 at 10:07 pm
Yeah. I mean like Rod says he’s one of the best players to play in the Bucs organization as long as we are talking maybe Top 40 – 50 players. He shouldn’t be so butt hurt. The Bucs didn’t owe him anything more. They honored the contract, extended the contract and his time has come and gone. He’ll be okay with the Panthers but the current staff didn’t see the potential in the base 3-4 look and his play has noticeably slipped the last 2 years. Suh is way more of a complete DT and makes more sense in a 3-4.
June 19th, 2019 at 10:14 pm
Lets see, an all-star Bucs team, all time…
QB1: Winston
QB2: Williams
QB3: Johnson
RB1: Dunn
RB2: Wilder
RB3: D. Martin
RB4: R. Bell
FB: Alstott
WR1: Evans
WR2: Carrier
WR3: V. Jackson
WR4: Galloway
WR5: K. House
TE1: Giles
TE2: Ron Hall
TE3: Winslow
OT1: Gruber
OT2: Penn
OG: Grimes
OG: Marpet
C: Tony Mayberry
DE1: Selmon
DE2: Rice
DE3: Chidi Ahanotu
DE4: Greg Spires
DT1: Sapp
DT2: McCoy
DT3: Logan
OL1: Brooks
OL2: David
OL3: Batman Woods
OL4: Hugh Green
MLB1: Nickerson
MLB2: Quarles
MLB3: Kwon Alexander
CB1: Barber
CB2: Brian Kelly
CB3: Donnie Abraham
CB4: Mike Washington
CB5: Wayne Haddix (for dominating in Tecmo Super Bowl)
S1: Lynch
S2: Cedrick Brown
S3: Dexter Jackson
S4: Tanard Jackson (safety depth is not as good as you might think)
K: Donald Igwebuike (Who doesn’t love saying Igwebuike?)
P: Mark Royals
Anywho, as you can see from the list, McCoy is easily in the top players all time and would make the starting squad.
Also I tried to give credit to those early Bucs teams but I was too young to remember them seeing them in person – so the true old timers can set me straight if I forgot someone. But from the mid-80s forward, I’m pretty confident in this list.
June 19th, 2019 at 10:34 pm
Being considered a great player for franchise that has embarrassed the sport of football for all but 3 or 4 years out of 42 is as meaningless as pro bowls…. only great buc players are selmon and sapp. Sapp carried those one year wonder has beens low standard bucfan calls legends. Franchise is a joke with a ring of underachievement filled with backups….
Bonzi has a better chance of being rescued from a gangbang with a catholic priest and Baptist minister by overweight pear shaped elves than bucs winning a playoff game in the next decade plus but you foolish optimists keep hoping…..
June 19th, 2019 at 10:45 pm
Dam right it’s an indictment!
New coach came in here and wants warriors on the field you softy cone. Your most memorable play to me over your 10 year (2 winning season) career, is your 😭 after you walked off the field… and then played later in the game.
If 10 years ain’t a large enough sample size for you Tampa of what this guy brings, then you’re letting emotions cloud your better judgement.
June 19th, 2019 at 10:47 pm
I am a Gerald McCoy fan but that interview depicts why he had to go. He is a good man but he wears his heart on his sleeve. The new coaching staff wants to build a new culture that involves a tougher group of men. In that way Suh fits far better than Gerald. However I do wish Mr McCoy the best.
June 19th, 2019 at 10:47 pm
Great, great post, Rod. Really loved reading that list. I forgot how frikking good Tanard Jackson was, if he could have kept himself together.
I think OJ Howard could already be on that TE list, although we need him to stay healthy.
Wayne Haddix and Tecmo Bowl.. Hell yes…
Just seeing all those names from different eras is really cool. Makes one very reflective. Love being a BUCS fan.
June 19th, 2019 at 10:51 pm
C2asante.
What a ridiculously racist and idiotic comment. Not sure if you saw or not but a statue was just erected of Lee Roy Selmon. Maybe it’s just the bronze finish, but I’m pretty sure he was of color.
June 19th, 2019 at 10:54 pm
Joe your so full of it… you said they both failed each other not it’s the bucs failed McCoy … which one is it
June 19th, 2019 at 11:06 pm
Cancer93 highlights
8 basement titles
Captained more blowouts than any other captain in the franchises pathetic history
Worst home record of any team captain
5 or 6 defensive coordinators careers ruined
4 failed coaching staffs
Led the league in side line crying
Led the league in getting ran over by subpar running backs
No meaningful wins
No post season games
No signature games
He was the most selfish camera hound on team history
He truly was a Buccaneers man. A complete loser
June 19th, 2019 at 11:22 pm
The bottom line is THIS is who McCoy is. He has been selfish and will always be selfish. I still believe that the reason we did not draft Aaron Donald because of McCoy, we did not fully change defenses because of McCoy, we were a weak team in large part to McCoy. The show he put on for many years was taken hook line and sinker by the media cause he gave them what he wanted. They always claim to be objective yet they slobbered all over this guy for many years for what exactly? They rip guys like Jameis, Talib, Blount and many others cause they get pissed when we lose. Also the part about Jameis needing to step up, well then where in the heck was McCoy with Swaggy Baker? Talk about a two faced trash talker.
June 19th, 2019 at 11:34 pm
…and Joe’s fixation carries on… but of course there are all these comments and all these clicks… I guess McCoy has finally helped an organization in Tampa succeed(?) after all. A) McCoy’s comments were interesting. So Joe shared. And he’s talking about the Bucs. B) Comments never have and never will equal clicks. The most read stories typically don’t have the most comments. –Joe
June 19th, 2019 at 11:40 pm
5704 snaps.
218 tackles.
$110,113,033
$505,105 per tackle. 5th highest paid defensive football player of_all_time.
A selfish diva DT. A guy who didn’t enjoy the one season where the team actually won 10 games.
Gerald is all about Gerald.
June 20th, 2019 at 12:07 am
McCoy is a total b*tch!
This just proves it even more, what a weak-minded p*ssy.
Too bad he NEVER got pissed off while his defense was getting whooped for years on end.
Lots of luck Panthers.
Guarantee you Marpet and Jensen can’t wait to rag-doll this little boy.
June 20th, 2019 at 12:55 am
Someone needs to ask Gerald why his own teammates didn’t vote him as a team captain last year. How does one of the “greatest players in team history” not get voted as a captain by his own peers?
Do tell!!!
June 20th, 2019 at 4:43 am
Thanks Tampa Bay Demon.
I kind of agree on OJ – I had a side note next to Ron Hall saying OJ will probably be here next year.
Also with T-Jax, he was really good – it’s just too bad he was more worried about getting high than playing football.
For Haddix, he’s the Bucs all-time video game MVP. My friend always played the friggin Raiders in Tecmo Super Bowl so he could use former 1st overall Bucs pick Bo Jackson – and Haddix was one of the very few people in the game that could shut him down. Alstott in NFL Gameday was pretty unstoppable, and Sapp and Brooks were dominant in Madden, but Haddix could literally shut down an entire teams offense all by himself. Those wacky stat watchers in Japan that created him really loved his long TD returns and that boosted his ratings in game huge, and from my count he’s the 2nd best player in the game only behind LT.
June 20th, 2019 at 6:31 am
What a crock of sh** …and people wonder why we couldn’t wait for him to leave. Self professed hall of famer. He might make the top 75 of all time Bucs…
June 20th, 2019 at 6:37 am
This guy is a straight Bitch!!
June 20th, 2019 at 6:42 am
Logan and Pear were better defensive tackles than McCoy. He better sit down if he thinks he deserves recognition before them…
June 20th, 2019 at 7:07 am
See, this is why I fully understand now why Buc fans despise this guy. Whether or not the statement is true, dubious at best, just shut up and go play. To compare yourself to HOF’ers is embarrassing.
The “crow buffet” continues for the FanMan!
See, now I just pray for the moment a Bucs OL pancakes this joker!
June 20th, 2019 at 7:11 am
Rod- It’s a good list. I would argue that Winston needs to prove himself further though. He’s lacking the W’s.
June 20th, 2019 at 7:52 am
No matter what some Bucs fans want to say–he’s a 6 time pro-bowler, and yes–one of the best Bucs of all time. No, they should not have given his number away. However, I have no doubt they will put his number in the ring of honor.
This was poorly handled by the Bucs.
June 20th, 2019 at 8:20 am
Fool is blowing his lifetime bonanza on clothing and other silliness… easy come easy go…I am in the marine industry and at the Miami Boat show Albert Haynesworth was anxiously hanging around the used mega yacht dock checking to see how the interest in his yacht was going…I am for enjoying your money but McCoy’s is blowing through it IMO…poor decisions and taxes will eat him alive
June 20th, 2019 at 8:57 am
The team gave him over 100 million and they were terrible. He was okay. Had decent stats. Ring of Honor? Hell NO! Before we put McCoy in, guys like Wilder (who had truly great stats for bad teams), Williams (who actually helped the team win), Bell, the whole 90’s to SB crew, all deserve in before McCoy. He’s not great and just the fact that he thinks he is/was is a huge part of the problem. He was basically the lead actor in a reality show that nobody watched. He was the best of garbage. So happy he is gone. I don’t see any way that he deserves to get in over Gruber, Mayberry, Rice, 97-02 defenders. Now, I don’t recall all off the top of my head that are in, but McCoy surely doesn’t fit with the guys in the ROH. It’s a no from me, dawg!
June 20th, 2019 at 9:00 am
i got booger and culpepper ahead of this chump…..they played with more heart and attitude…..
GO BUCS!!!!!!
June 20th, 2019 at 9:17 am
813…Culpepper …I was furious when he was named in the last cut to the 53, and so was Sapp….he was old school scrappy hard nosed football player….typical of many in his era and before….sad to say we (NFL) is largely prima donna’s these days with the rules taking the toughness out of the game
June 20th, 2019 at 9:26 am
“Holy Jersey number aspersions, Batman!”
June 20th, 2019 at 9:35 am
Not sure why he put his name in the hat with hall of famers and guys on the ballot but that’s not the category he’s in, he’s in the alstott, Dunn, booger, quarles category. He’s good but one of the best? Not sure how his head fits a helmet
June 20th, 2019 at 9:37 am
Are we allowed to put Kickers ahead of him?
June 20th, 2019 at 9:42 am
I mean he is in the top 15 but does top 15 mean you’re one of the best? You have to be top 5. I went and looked at a list just to see how our players were ranked by others and it REALLY REALLY bummed me out once you get outside that top 20. Going to need to go look at a list of the Bengals or Browns (current Browns) top 100 players to cheer myself back up
June 20th, 2019 at 9:48 am
GMC butthurt?? Not a huge surprise.
I liked the guy – but now he is the enemy.
If he wanted to stay he would have taken a little less $ – he has already made his fortune – how about helping the team??
Personally I think he has been a good player – but certainly didn’t elevate the play of others and was a soft leader.
June 20th, 2019 at 9:57 am
I wonder how many of the keyboard warriors calling him a bitch, soft, etc. would be man enough to say it to his face? You are the same people who would be begging him for a selfie with you or an autograph for “your kid”. Gerald is experiencing what all Black men experience. They love you as long as you are of use, and when your utility is no more or you exercise any degree of independence, you are talked about like a dog and all your good works are degraded
June 20th, 2019 at 10:23 am
Here’s a fact that puts everything in perspective…
In the history of the Buccaneers, Doug Martin and Gerald McCoy have the same amount of First Team All Pro honors. Which is one.
Take care, everyone! Have a nice day! I think we’re done here.

Classic Gerald. Jenna nailed it. I wonder if he’s apologized.
June 20th, 2019 at 11:06 am
McCoy reminds me of The Real McCoy sitcom back decades on TV starring the confused stuttering old man Walter Brennan.
June 20th, 2019 at 11:21 am
When he comes to town with the Panthers there should be a bonfire of McCoy jerseys outside the stadium
June 20th, 2019 at 11:50 am
RMunch…no Ricky Reynolds ?
June 20th, 2019 at 12:15 pm
Sheesh…GMC was a good player for 4 maybe 5 seasons with the Bucs, but he’s starting to act like, in the words of Rah, a mental midget. He should let it go, the spite already allegedly cost him around $4M in guaranteed money that he could have had in his pocket if he didn’t want to play for a division rival so badly.
June 20th, 2019 at 1:01 pm
Salty lil guy right there. Yes GMc was a good player but to compair yourself to Sapp, LeeRoy, Brooks, Ronde, get the f outta here. They gave your number away to a better player, end of story. Stfu and get that tail beat twice this year. I have tickets to the week 2 game and cannot wait to watch his soft ass get beasted!!
June 20th, 2019 at 2:36 pm
AlteredEgo – I’m pretty sure I’d have had Rickey Reynolds in the Haddix spot – but I had to list Haddix, he won me so many games.
Bucsfanman – There’s no way any team would pick Doug Williams over Winston. Williams won because the Bucs had the best defense in football – his job was not to screw it up (ie the Trent Dilfer role). Yes, Williams could do some things no one else could do, and yes, later in his career he got better, but watch Williams and Winston play and it’s not even close. The only case that might be made is for Brad Johnson, but he had such a short run with the team it’s hard to rank him above Winston or Williams. In any case Winston already being the best QB in team history (not counting Steve Young obviously) says a lot about how the Bucs have drafted QBs.
June 20th, 2019 at 3:13 pm
Bye Felicia!
June 20th, 2019 at 5:03 pm
Thx Rod for the Tecmo memories. God that was so much fun. I too remember the nightmare of having to stop the Marcus Allen & Bo Jackson. —- Better guess right on D, or you were toast.
Unless of course… you had Wayne Haddix… 😉
Haddix, by the way, at times slightly resembled Bucco Bruce with the facial hair… if my memory serves.
Great stuff man
June 20th, 2019 at 5:24 pm
Great comments guys! You never fail to deliver 😂😂😂
June 20th, 2019 at 7:05 pm
Rod- just saying that it’s so early in his career. Statistically the best. That ain’t saying much though!
June 20th, 2019 at 7:45 pm
Ace Ventura said well. LOSER!
June 20th, 2019 at 9:01 pm
Brian Joseph makes a good point: Food for thought! Those butthurt over Suh getting 93 , remember when Rice was let go and Jimmy Wilkerson wore his number the following year. Simeon did more for this franchise than McCoy could ever dream about doing. I didn’t hear the fanbase going crazy over that………. js
June 20th, 2019 at 10:09 pm
“If you’re not winning you’re not having fun“ this is a recent quote from Devon White. However, if you’re G McCoy you’re having fun anyways. /JS
June 20th, 2019 at 11:21 pm
Gerald is correct, there are a ton of Buc fans that hate him.
June 21st, 2019 at 3:04 pm
S.Rice, W. Sapp, R. Barber, J Lynch. This are the names of Great Buccaneers who deserves respect. Who will always be greatest bucs defensive players. Not a over paid cry baby like Gerald McCoy
