Despite the complex Bucco Bruce Arians offense, it seems things are being kept very simple for America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, when it comes to his daily grind.
Consider multiple responses from Jameis’ last news conference as mandatory minicamp broke last week.
Asked what are his daily keys to success in practice, Jameis replied, “Footwork, taking care of the football and completions,” Jameis said before repeating himself. “Footwork, taking care of the football and completions. All day.”
A minute later (as you’ll see at the end of this video) Jameis was asked by another reporter to name one thing he wants to accomplish by the time minicamp ends. As if reading off a script, Jameis said, “feet work and completions.”
Typically, when a player repeats phrases like that it’s because it’s what’s being drilled into him by coaches. Joe suspects that’s one way Arians is re-programming Jameis to keep his mind off trying to be Superman, as Arians calls it, on too many plays.

That photo doesn’t show Winston throwing off his back foot, idiot. It shows him at the starting point of transitioning from his back foot to his front foot as he goes through the first phase of his windup.

YFGM Here Folks, his legs (stands) still look like his a pitcher or and outfielder. I don’t understand why doesn’t anyone else see this. He needs to strengthen his core, hamstrings, hip flexors, calves, work with a sprint coach and do yoga. The strengthen of these muscle will give him a more upright posture. Which will automatically improve his accuracy. Everything starts from the ground up with quarterbacks. He’s developed bad habits from being a strong arm pitcher. He mostly used his armed power when playing baseball, indirectly allowing lower body stabilizing and strength muscles to get weaker. I will be sure to implement the changes when I’m back in the front officer.

Oh, Winston knows the right answers. It’s his decisionmaking when he’s in the driver’s seat that gets him into trouble, on and off the field. ‘Tis the fact that at the end of the day, he does what he wants to do–not what he’s told or what he knows is right.

Most of Winston’s interceptions were from a clean pocket and were not because of footwork.
It’s 10 minutes but easily 2/3rd’s were simply over throwing, under throwing or inaccurate passes behind or too far in front of the receivers.

Jameis is a workaholic, he’ll be fine…
Let’s not forget how technically flawed he was when we drafted him from all those years playing baseball…The technical stuff is something that QBs have to continue to work on their entire career…
Although Winston has played alot of football, he’s still just a kid at 25 compared to the other good/elite QBs around the league; most of those guys are in their 30’s and a few are in their 40’s….

Gilhealy, my opinions are based on what I read in media (which if you did that much alone, you’d be better informed), folks I talk to around the situations, and what I also see myself. Actually, I probably get out too much. On an editorial note, your word choice sucks. This has nothing to do with piety. Have you ever been right about anything at all?
OneBuc 55…Winston may be fine as a player, though don’t forget that many of the Winston apologists say his problems are from working too hard, from trying too hard. I hope he plays great…but he needs more than that to be retained….and think he’s done irreparable damage to being the face of the franchise–indicators thus far don’t look good on that…endorsements, ticket sales, wins, public events, positive press….etc.

The picture seemed a little odd to me. You got a 6 foot 5 inch quarterback
bending his legs giving up his height advantage.
Much rather see his feet directly under his torso and standing tall .

Looking at the picture, it is plain to see he is trying to protect the football….. it is not about throwing. One of his problems is ball security, and that is what they are addressing here. They are throwing big soft balls at him trying to get him off balance and as far as I can see he is well positioned to not have a 300lb behemoth try and strip the ball from him!! Hands close to the chest and ball tightly gripped with 2 hands… move along ladies…..

You must be new to this site. In Jameis year one and year two and year 3 , it was 15 articles just about Jameis to about 3 articles about the rest of the team.
And He really loves this picture. Jameis in shorts and large balls being the theme in his mind . Pretty sure the one J takes 5 cold showers after he studies that pic.

Gilhealy…nothing judgmental about wanting the QB of my football team to be good, and EXPECTING him to be an upstanding member of the community and an EXAMPLE for others in his profession, on and off the field. That is NOT asking too much. FYI, I don’t enter into the picture. You take it that’s how I come across, but I’m not the topic of the article. I will however, say I’m more like the extreme high proportion of the general population who doesn’t do what he was found to have done, doesn’t get suspended in my job, doesn’t get stripped of my post of being a leader, and doesn’t selfishly help make my organization be the laughing stock in the industry. Once I see that, it’s time to move on from him. It’s that simple.

Footwork issues could also be a product of doing it that way earlier in his developement. It has to be corrected at this level for him to take the next step.

I agree / am not surprised by that. Especially knowing that for some reason while under pressure Winston is one of the better QBs in the league relative to others under pressure.
However – even watching that video – i’m almost half way and I’m charting this because I’m crazy and love this stuff:
Right now I’m through a bit of 2016, and I have about 17 interceptions charted which is off a couple – but of the first 17 I watched in the video:
First 10 are horrible rookie mistakes fromt hat season. No excuse there.
2 vs Dallas was off a WR hands
1 vs Indy was when we were down 13 with 4 mins left in desperation downs
1 vs the Rams down 15 with little time in the 4th
1 vs the Cardinals off the WR hands
1 vs the Cardinals Hail Mary end of game
1 vs the Rams off the WR hands
So 7 of the 17, or almost half, were excusable interceptions IMO. Hell at least 5 have to be excusable to anyone if it’s a hail mary or off the receivers hands
It’s the other types of bad decisions he needs to cut down. I’m probably doing the whole video now damn you lol

Your takes are old. You literally repeated over and over on the last 5 articles pretty much the same narrative, you want jameis gone because of his character flaws and it has already cemented a lack of ability to market himself in the future. You can have your opinion of him and that’s fine (it’s becoming more clear you’re old and conservative) but Bruce came out of retirement to coach him. That by itself eliminates the majority of merit you think you have. The rest was eliminated when you called people dumb for not knowing maga stands for computer related businesses.
Wins change everything btw. People will forget about his blemishes if he makes the playoffs. Period. He will then be highly marketable.
Not sure why so many close-minded jameis haters are sprouting up over the place. You guys are extra confident with ignorance.
Bruce, bowles, and intelligent fans understand this team will be successful with an improvement in the run game, special teams, and defense. Jameis’s play as it stands is good enough to get a well balanced team to a winning record. Yes he needs to work on decision making thus why the QB whisperer is here.
But please. Tell us about how he made mistakes 3 years ago as if it’s gonna effect Bruce’s confidence in him.

I’m going to do 2016 forward – non rookie year since literally 10 of his first career interceptions came in 3 games against the Titans/Texans/Panthers in the early part of 2015. 5 INT in other 13 games
2016 – I charted 16 total in video vs 18 on the year. Of my 16:
5 were off the receiver’s hands
1 was an end of game hail mary
1 was down late in the 4th / hail mary esque situation
2017 – I chart 10 vs 11 on the year. Of those 10:
1 off WR hands
1 was no protection / hit from behind shooting the ball up in the air
1 looked to be obvious wrong route by WR
2018. All his early picks before getting benched are bad pretty much. He was pressing / playing some of his worst ball in this period of time. He did it to himself with the suspension.
And after he came back is when we see 13 TD: 4 INT over 7 games, with 2 of those INT being hail marys.
But IN CONCLUSION:
1. He needs to make better decisions regardless. Even though a lot of his picks came while pressing while down or off a WR hands, there were still a ton of interceptions that occured in close games with a clean pocket where there is absolutely no excuse for the interception. He’s been having like 10-14 of those a year when he needs to cut it to 5-8, because every QB is going to get 5-6 picks between balls off WR hands / deflections / hail marys.
2. Most of his fumbles come via unclean pockets IMO. Holds the ball too long at times.
REMEDY IMO = More quick passing options especially in red zone + improved run game + Winston learning to throw it away which he did a lot more in that 7 game stretch to end last year.

Here’s a clue for you: When Joe writes an article about Winston’s performance, salary, progress, future, etc, I make the comments that are my opinion that go with the article. If you don’t like it, too bad for you. Joe determines if I cross the line…not you. That’s another lesson. I hope you can absorb all of that.

He is in sort of in crouch , one of my points was that he was not standing up straight and feet were not directly underneath him. The ball position is not an issue IMO. With that body position he could easily be knocked on his backside with a well placed hand to the chest.
As for the purpose of the drill ,I would think that the purpose would be to avoid the rush (softball) and get into position to pass just like in gametime situations.
Which brings me back to Stand Tall, like good pocket passers such as Brady or Rivers would do.

LOL @ Lord Cornhole watching video to ‘excuse’ many of Winston’s INTs.
You do realize that all the other QBs have those same ‘off WR hands’ INTs too, right? Yet those other decent QBs on average have a lower TD-to-INT ratio than Winston has in his career.
Now go watch that video for all of Jameis’ FUMBLES and come back and tell us which ones were excusable.

Hey Pete. Whos the Bucs QB again? Ya thats right Winston. Looks like its going to be a long season for you. If I was you I would go fallow Fitz to Miami. I dont care of they get ride of him next year. I just want my team to win. And there wasnt better option in free agency or the draft. Except Murry who we had no chance getting. Winston gives us the best chance to win right now. Period

YFGM – Analysis fail… Pitching requires ground up strength. Greg Maddux and Nolan Ryan have publicly stated one of the keys to their sustained success was their leg strength.
However, I would agree with your.prescription for most athletes in any sport.
