Life In The QB Room
June 11th, 2019It seems Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians is a little busier buzzing around in his Bobby Bowden golf cart than any of us may have realized.
It seems Arians isn’t just monitoring how the team practices and performs on the field. He also has his coaches under his watchful eye.
That’s the word from none other than America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
Recently, Winston appeared on Adam Schefter’s podcast. There Jameis was asked by Schefter, the BSPN uber NFL insider, how he’s adjusting to life under Arians. And unlike some (even Arians himself), Jameis doesn’t mind having so many cooks in the kitchen.
In fact, Jameis suggested all the offensive assistant coaches are getting coached by Arians as much as Jameis is being coached.
“Man, it’s been a blessing,” Jameis said of life with Arians. “Just really about the people he has around the quarterback position. Having greats like Coach [Tom] Moore, having Coach Clyde Christensen in the QB Room, and having someone I can relate to that has played the game, has played under [Arians’] system in Bryon Leftwich as the offensive coordinator. [Arians] kind of handles the whole thing like, I am getting coached by him, Coach Bryon is getting coached by him and Coach Clyde is getting coached by him. So it is always parallel energy and it is about the quarterback executing.”
Joe has to wonder if there really are too many voices in Jameis’ head, too many cooks in the kitchen. Of face value, bringing Moore in was a savvy move by Arians and every NFL expert outside of One Buc Palace applauds it.
Joe can say this about Jameis: The Bucs are stopping at nothing to make sure he has quality coaching.
June 11th, 2019 at 5:27 am
It’s pretty obvious Joe … no more excuses. Jameis is being every opportunity to grab this bull by the horns.
Out of curiosity, is Ryan Griffin still with the team? Haven’t heard a single word about anything he’s done so far this year.
June 11th, 2019 at 5:28 am
Oops, forgot ‘given’.
June 11th, 2019 at 6:10 am
I second that D.R.. It’s time to shine. Period, no excuses.
June 11th, 2019 at 6:32 am
Joe says “It seems Arians isn’t just monitoring how the team practices and performs on the field. He also has his coaches under his watchful eye.” I hope Joe just used a poor choice of words in this rare case, as no HC should be “monitoring” anything. HCs need to be making things happen. Directing, clearly in charge. Driving the practices, the coaching, the players. Oh, sure all know he is in charge. Just like they knew the other guys were in charge.
No, I don’t like the golf cart routine, period. Leave that thing back at the Buc house. Back to why I worry that Arians health will not hold up well through the August camp. I was hoping it wasn’t the normal way of doing things but was sadly revealed the truth when I was there recently for underwear football.
On a lighter note, the next excuse for why Winston is having/will have trouble: Too many voices in his head. Verily, the football Son of Sam. So here we go as the list grows:
– Looking over his shoulder at Fitz.
– O line sucks
– D sucks
– Running game sucks
– Coaches suck
– Trying too hard
– Pearl Harbored by DJax
– Couldn’t “relate” to his OC and QB coach
– Software sucks
– Too many voices in his head.
To Winston lovers, this oughtta buy him at least three more “prove it” years (in their minds). smdh.
June 11th, 2019 at 6:38 am
Wonder what Schefter is REALLY thinking when he talks with Winston……you know the off the field stuff is always there.
June 11th, 2019 at 6:39 am
DR….just a suggestion….don’t use the word “grab” when describing what Winston should do.
June 11th, 2019 at 6:39 am
“Joe has to wonder if there really are too many voices in Jameis’ head, too many cooks in the kitchen.”
As an example above, why do you have to put a negative spin on EVERYTHING?
June 11th, 2019 at 6:43 am
Joez written 5,000 positive articles about Jameis and ^^ thinks this is negative
Twist. Can’t use name cause it will go into moderation . Starts with N.
Give me a break
June 11th, 2019 at 6:45 am
@defense rules:
griffin is good as gone…that’s why they signed gabbert…also i think he makes about half the money ole grif makes…so cap comes into play here as well…also gabbert played for bruce in the past if i’m correct…so bruce has his guy at back up…
you haven’t heard much about griffin because he’s busy sheeting bricks…and talking to humphries like “bring me in to tennessee brody”
June 11th, 2019 at 6:46 am
@joe
can we now talk about the sand crab that has made his new home inside jameis’ forehead
June 11th, 2019 at 6:50 am
Adam from ny … I can speculate too, but I was kinda hoping that the Joes had something more than ‘speculation’.

BA or BS or Bust for Jameis “Meaningless Stats” Winston
Hopefully all these coaches as well as BA and his golf cart can get Winton to change his only important stat, the one by which all QB’s are ultimately judged on = Wins and Losses.
And there are no asterisks in the record books for bad coaching, poor attitude teammates, lousy running games or bad defenses. Just cold hard numbers!
21-33 needs work for the first pick in the draft.
The “Best” QB in Buccaneers History is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay
June 11th, 2019 at 6:53 am
BA or BS we shall see in September.
June 11th, 2019 at 7:36 am
“…having Coach Clyde Christensen in the QB Room…” Reading that makes me cringe.
June 11th, 2019 at 7:53 am
“So it is always parallel energy and it is about the quarterback executing.”
Parallel energy. Love it. Stop questioning the “multiple voices in his head.”
Or are you guys all schizophobes?!
June 11th, 2019 at 7:54 am
Stat comparison:
Peyton Manning (lock for HOF)
4th Year (2001)–Age 25
TD-26 Int-23
Comp%-62.7
Jameis Winston
4th Year (2018)–Age 24
TD-19 Int-14
Comp%-64.6
Good thing we didn’t draft Peyton Manning. If there was a JBF in 2001, many on this site would be calling for him to be cut and run out of Tampa in an empty boxcar. And then, much like Steve Young, et al., he would have come back to haunt us. Manning didn’t get fixed until he received better coaching (hate to say it–Dungy).
Let’s see what happens with BA …
June 11th, 2019 at 7:56 am
What number will be higher?; Jameis turnovers or qty of coaches. We also have two female coaches….what is the over/under on how many of them JW will grope this season.
June 11th, 2019 at 8:04 am
Talent > Coaching
Yes we will have better coaching this year and they might squeeze 2 wins out of catching the opponent unaware…but Talent > Coaching 90% of the time..all sports all levels…all the time “The Junction Boys” days of football and long ago gone…especially in the NFL
June 11th, 2019 at 8:07 am
JA … comparing jameis to manning is an outright joke. The NFL was totally different when peyton started than it is now; and comparing a HOFer to winston is a joke
June 11th, 2019 at 8:11 am
@Dusty…exactly!
June 11th, 2019 at 8:13 am
Duthsty–
Please elaborate.
Different how?
And the comparison was for the fourth year only. No matter, after fours years Manning wasn’t a lock for anything …
June 11th, 2019 at 8:25 am
Um, just to state the obvious, but Winston has always had a lot of voices directed at him.
What? He has one more than any other QB right now? Not a big deal. Every QB has:
Head Coach
OC
QB Coach
Assistants to those guys
Mountain meet molehill.
June 11th, 2019 at 8:28 am
Duthsty Rhothdes Says
JA … comparing jameis to manning is an outright joke. The NFL was totally different when peyton started than it is now; and comparing a HOFer to winston is a joke”white
Here’s a comparison for you: Even Peyton Manning was unable to win a ring without a decent defense.
June 11th, 2019 at 8:29 am
And a good kicker as well.
June 11th, 2019 at 8:32 am
Funny thong:
I took a look at QB stats on the nfl site, cbs sports, espn, fox sports, rotoworld…and none of them lists wins and losses as an individual QB stat.
Because it is a team effort.
June 11th, 2019 at 8:42 am
Funny thing.
Stupid tablet, lol.
June 11th, 2019 at 9:06 am
Funny thing is in every record book QB’S and coaches have wins and losses attached to them. Notice Qbrec line/column and even all my old stat books mention wins and losses and winning percentages of QB’S.
Seems Bonsai is wrong.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WinsJa00.htm
June 11th, 2019 at 9:11 am
Wins and losses are not mentioned or listed in say Barry Sanders stats because we don’t judge running backs by wins and losses. But fair or unfair we do coint wins and losses of QB’S, coaches, pitchers andnd managers etc…
Jameis “meaningless stats ” Winston is 21-33 with no asterisks for excuses.
His team has actually a different win loss total during that period. As do his coaches.
June 11th, 2019 at 9:12 am
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WinsJa00.htm
Brec seems to list wins and losses and anyone who doesn’t think we judge QB’S by their wins and losses and championships is simply wrong.

Winston Derangement Syndrome simpletons out in full force this morning. Most of these posters will either never come back or change their screen name and jump on the bandwagon when Winston has his best year yet in 2019. Gonna be fun to see which screen names disappear like donuts in a cop car.
June 11th, 2019 at 10:03 am
JA, if a defender touches a WR today its PI; when peyton started the game was more balanced in terms of offense v defense. WRs would go over the middle knowing they were going to get drilled; today that is not the case the NFL is an offensive league
June 11th, 2019 at 10:07 am
Dapostman never rings twice.
“when Winston has his best year yet in 2019. Gonna be fun to see which screen names disappear like donuts in a cop car.”
Unlikely!
But even if accurate it’s a win – win. If Jameis fails, which all evidence suggests he will. Or doesn’t fail, my Bucs will be winners. They either finally stop wasting years seeing if Winston can be at least consistent or they actually have a good record and BA fixed the really broken franchise and the “best” QB in Buccaneers history.
Win-Win
Who by the way is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay.
June 11th, 2019 at 10:10 am
Dapostman never rings twice.
Actually I could see Jameis “meaningless stats ” Winston have his best year and the team still have a losing record. And his stats reflecting more losses than wins for another year.
The ” best ” QB in Buccaneers history is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay.
June 11th, 2019 at 10:18 am
Pete I Says:
“Jameis “meaningless stats ” Winston is 21-33 ”
Not too bad since coming to the worst franchise in NFL history.
Wonder how the next QB will do. I suspect worse.
June 11th, 2019 at 10:30 am
too many cooks in the kitchen is only bad when all the cooks have different backgrounds…..
you cant bring in a person who specializes in Asian cuisine, Indian cuisine, and Italian cuisine and expect them to prepare an american soul food meal…..lol….it wont taste right…..lol….
CC should be helping JW with his technique, throwing motion and footwork…
BL should be helping JW with defensive coverages and decision making….
with that said, he has all the tools and resources to be successful…..no excuses…
GO BUCS!!!!
June 11th, 2019 at 10:52 am
“Not too bad since coming to the worst franchise in NFL history.
Wonder how the next QB will do. I suspect worse.”
Perhaps, but one should never be afraid of change and one should never stay in a failed relationship longer than needed.
Jameis ” meaningless stats ” Winston has his chance to turn himself around…again, we shall see if he takes it. But to stay a failed course is stupid and one cannot be fearful of changing course.
The “best ” QB in Buccaneers history is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay
June 11th, 2019 at 11:03 am
Pete aside from GMC, Jameis has to be most defended player who has done nothing in bucs history
June 11th, 2019 at 11:12 am
Dapostman….. Winston Derangement Syndrome.
It’s such a thing ya know.
Look how Pete can’t stay away…..
June 11th, 2019 at 11:19 am
Pete I I love the fact that Winston lives in your head rent free. And when he succeeds this year as others have said you’ll be invisible. And dont worry I’ll be on here every day to remind you what a dolt you are.
June 11th, 2019 at 11:58 am
Unlikely CDblaster but again it will be a win-win no matter what Jameis ” meaningless stats ” Winston does this year.
Look forward to hearing from you…
The ” Best ” QB in Buccaneers history is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay
June 11th, 2019 at 12:06 pm
Cgmasterrrrrr27, grow up son. Why you and the Jameis lovers have to personally attack people because they are calling out Winston make you look really stupid. In almost all of the country, the Bucs are a joke, and Winston is an even bigger joke because of all he’s put the Bucs and Buc fans through…oh and others, and he holds no shame. Why you you grow up and discuss the issues instead of just attacking people for their opinions?
June 11th, 2019 at 12:38 pm
JA, you cant compare QB stats from 2 different eras. Everyone laughed at your silly comparison. Sorry.
June 11th, 2019 at 1:25 pm
Only one thing Winston needs to get better at and that’s better decision making.
There’s a time and place for trying to force throws and he has not been able to figure that out yet.
The good news is that he did actually get better in that area over the last six games last year. If he can keep that up we will be just fine at the QB position.
Bruce will figure this out. I’m confident.
June 11th, 2019 at 1:44 pm
you people need a life
June 11th, 2019 at 2:28 pm
It amazes me that no matter how bad Winston plays, the casual fan homers on this site continue to make excuse after excuse for him. That it’s somehow everyone else’s fault the team doesn’t win but Winston’s fault.
June 11th, 2019 at 2:54 pm
WDS simpletons, ask yourself why would a guy who is nearing 70 want to coach a team like the Bucs? If the roster is that bad including the QB why would he be here? You would think that a young guy on his first assignment would be coaching this team not an established veteran coach who could virtually pick any job he wants. As Colonel Nathan Jessup once said “you can’t handle the truth.” Simpletons like Petey are ready to jump on the Winston bandwagon. Others will slowly fade away like General MacArthur.
June 11th, 2019 at 3:55 pm
Dapostman never rings twice
Was on the Jameis ” meaningless stats ” Winston bandwagon when we drafted him. Watched the draft while on a cruise ship and was thrilled. Hoping he would be the QB we needed.
Not so far! Frankly given the investment he has been a failed stock.
His off the field stuff finally convinced me that he is fools gold and every season we are wasting with him.
But let’s see if BA can fix JW.
Unlikely but we are stuck for now with J “meaningless stats” Winston
June 11th, 2019 at 3:57 pm
Dapostman…don’t be silly. Arians is here for one big reason: $$$$$
And of the other places, he probably chose the Bucs because of: $$$$$$
And Licht is probably giving him all the latitude he wants–probably more than other real GMs would give their HCs.
Not hard.
June 11th, 2019 at 4:05 pm
Pete I, right again. Winston should have been gone end of ’17. Too bad it took the NFL so long to conclude, with corrobarated evidence, he did everything as alleged. Could have had a new QB in the saddle now…like Mayfield. Mahomes? smdh
June 11th, 2019 at 5:01 pm
^^^Actually, Mahomes was already drafted earlier, so could not have gotten him then…but point is, we could have moved on by now…
June 11th, 2019 at 5:09 pm
Magadud,
Of course money plays into it Einstein. These guys don’t work for free. There were quite a few teams in search of a head coach. Bruce Arians had the best resume of any of these new NFL coaches. He could have picked any team but chose Tampa and Winston. Either you’ll be on the bandwagon or you’ll fade away. Kinda hoping you fade away though. Too much negative energy on you and Petey.
June 11th, 2019 at 5:12 pm
JA, thanks. Great perspective lost on those running an agenda (other than winning consistently as a team). Go Bucs!
June 11th, 2019 at 7:30 pm
Dapostman,
Arains made a public statement about the job he interested in. Cleveland.
Yet they went with a position coach with half a season as a oc.
Just saying…..
As to BA taking the Bucs job, I agree with you he wouldn’t if he didn’t believe he could win now. And now has Winston. In that timeline.
June 11th, 2019 at 8:15 pm
@D1,
The Cleveland job was the only job opening at the time Arians was asked about returning to coaching. Coaches publicly don’t talk about jobs that aren’t available. That’s why you didn’t hear Arians talk about the Bucs job until it became available.
