“He’s Shown Me He Can Play”
June 5th, 2019Strong words from Bucco Bruce Arians this morning about a backup receiver who just may see the field more than expected this fall.
Arians was talking about the two practice fields he uses simultaneously so all 90 players on the roster can get more reps. It’s both used as a learning tool for the army of assistants he has in addition to getting players as much experience on the practice field as possible.
Yet, Arians detailed today that psychologically, there is a third reason to have the two fields going.
Arians noted that with the backups seeing the first- and second- (and third?) team reps on the first field, it is motivation for the backups and reserves to bust their tail to get promoted to the first field.
Sort of like when you are old enough to graduate from the kiddie table at Thanksgiving to the main adult dining room where cocktails are served.
Arians said already guys have moved up to the first field due to their strong work on the backup field and are now practicing with the “ones” and the “twos.”
Arians did not specify who those players are. Joe asked Arians if second-year receiver Justin Watson is one of those players.
No, Arians said, Watson was good enough to start underwear football season on the first field. When Joe asked Arians what he liked about Watson, Arians had glowing words about his diversity as a receiver. He’s big yet fast. He can play underneath or go deep.
“He’s shown me he can play,” Arians said of the Penn product.

Justin Watson will be Jordy Nelson 2.0 given the opportunity.

ncbucsfan….agree with you 100% my men!!!! I am making the same comparison since last year !!!

Cool. We need everyone to step up, and it is important that the WRs step up so there is not a drop in production.
June 5th, 2019 at 2:12 pm
Ncbucsfan agreed. Unlucky for him that he has ME13 and Godwin ahead of him, but lucky for us that we have really good talent and depth at WR.

Watson is good.

We still may have one of the top WR corps in the NFL, and easily top 5 when you include pass catchers in general between Howard/Brate.
Lot of people liked this guy last year including myself. I don’t recall anyone NOT liking him for example lol.
Has the size/length/speed you want in most #1 WRs. Showed good hands/chemistry with Jameis in 2018 preseason especially on the TD catch (main only play I can remember). Back of the end zone / good food work / body control tho.

If all these receivers are so good why does he keep bringing in more receivers BA or BS.

Our WR room is stacked

@ncbucsfan
I think Jordy Nelson was a great comparison.

Fantastic WR Corp vs a Ball Hawking young New Secondary everyday. And y’all can’t see the iron sharpening the iron. Phsst, please keep thinking we about to be…

Many have forgotten how good Sergio Bailey looked last pre-season before getting hurt…
Bucs are not hurting for young WR talent – that’s for sure…

Perhaps the reason BA keeps adding WRs is that we have a great number of DBs that are being developed and he wants them all to get a lot of reps. BA knows what he is doing. You can already tell the culture is changing. I love all 90 players getting reps! Development was what we have been missing going all the way back to the OL Coach who developed Dotson.

Me likey what I’m hearing! GoBucs!
June 5th, 2019 at 6:35 pm
There’s already a ton of depth at wr.
June 5th, 2019 at 6:48 pm
Is he related to Randy Watson… Justin Watson’s official nickname is now Sexual Chocolate
June 5th, 2019 at 8:00 pm
By the end of the year, Watson will move up to Outside WR. He’s on track to be as good a Godwin but more suited for the outside with his speed. Godwin is just a natural for the slot. It going to be fun watching Arian work the depth chart.

I think the Bucs will keep 6 WR this year:
Mike Evans
Chris Godwin
Justin watson
Scotty miller
Xavier Ubosi!

I liked that this kid played special teams last year, and not as a returner, on coverage.
