JPP Passenger ID’ed

More details surface.
Well, at least we know who the passenger is (or wasn’t) in the one-car crash that may spell the end of Jason Pierre-Paul’s Bucs career.
Last week Bucs defensive end JPP had a one-car crash where his Ferrari allegedly hydroplaned and slammed into a center median on I-95 in South Florida.
Initially, JPP was treated at a hospital and released, however, it was later learned he may have a fractured neck and could require surgery. If that surgery is needed, JPP very well could have already played his last game with the Bucs. Greg Auman of The Athletic has been on top of this.
“Front airbag did not deploy in Jason Pierre-Paul’s single-car accident,” Auman Twittered. “But the passenger side airbag did as Ferrari spun and right side hit median on I-95. Passenger named as James Thompson, 31, had seatbelt on.”
Joe had feared that the passenger, who previously was not identified, was the notorious Ronald Darby. Guess we can cross his name off the list.
Now the waiting begins to find out if JPP can find an witchdoctor orthopedist to tell him he doesn’t need surgery. Even then, do the Bucs want to be on the hook for a lineman with a bum neck if something untoward should happen?

Something âuntowardâ already did happen. JPP was in an accident and we MAY lose our best defensive player for an extended period of time.
As Buc fans, the passengerâs name is irrelevant. As people, however, the 50% of us posters that were raised to feel empathy are glad heâs ok.
As for the article, the only thing that caused me to raise a brow was Aumanâs statement that the front (driver) airbag didnât deploy. Makes one wonder if JPPâs phone isnât ringing off the hook with ambulance chasing lawyers looking to sue Ferrari.

Fractured neck and football donât mix. He is done as a buc and most likely as an NFL player.
No team is going to risk any liability with that kind of injury.

Although we don’t no if the deployed airbag on the passenger side was a front airbag…..they are designed to deploy when a vehicle hits a solid barrier at 8-14 MPH…..so, it is not necessary for a higher rate of speed to occur.
Knowing the passenger and their credibility is important because they are a witness and there may be circumstances that are important issues with JPP & his contract or is negotiations with the team over pay.

what is the deal with his pay for 2019 this is not a good situation for the bucs. with no cap how do they find a way to get a player who could fill in and what a disaster our depth will be where do we go from here??

Who the passenger was has been of HUGE interest. Also, the health of the passenger. Everything oddly seemed hush-hush. Was it his wife? A fellow athlete? Family? Friend?

Joe, saw your response to Boogie. You’re getting a little too sensitive. Especially for a guy who constantly rags on ESPN and the Times.
You sure have no problem dishing it out. And labeling a critic a “hater” is intellectually lazy and disingenuous.
That said, identifying the passenger with no other information is as helpful as identifying the airbag manufacturer. Also, what is the difference if it happened at 5 am instead of 2 am?

Joe, any word on what year the car was, I mean if JPP career over seems he has a legit lawsuit against Ferrari if airbag did not deploy and its a new car. Passenger could be his best friend or perhaps JPP was moonlighting as an uber driver, he was near the airport

Something is off about this whole thing.
Being out at 2am.
His air bag does not deploy.
He calls 911 like its no big deal.
He says he’s “fine” to the 911 dispatch.
FHP report said he was âapparently normalâ at the time of the crash.
Maybe he realized that playing another year in historically the worst defense known to mankind with the worst sports franchise, ran by the worster GM, and the worsterest owners since the invention of air, just isn’t worth it.

@Todd you know there is always life after football…….. I really thought it was drugs or alcohol involved but the FHP does not play around and give breaks to people no matter who they are and he sounded sober in 911 call. I guess once the report becomes public after the FHP has finished its investigation everything will be known and if its just bad luck and hydroplaned

Joe joe joe ….1. itâs pretty sad when a player has to get a second opinion from a second doctor …. the lack of trust players and front office has on the team physician…. 2. When you say now if JPP can find a orthopedic doctor who will tell JPP he does not need surgery … the man regardless is going to miss time most likely his career is done … letâs just hope that his health comes first…. even if a doctor said âJPP we can avoid surgery give you some injections or whatever the case may beâ this dude needs to think long and hard about what kind of damage he is going to do to his spine playing football…. this is some serious crap here …. this guy needs to shut it down for good

since you mentioned Darby… I honestly dont know if Ronald Darby is real bad news, or the most loyal friend possible. Yes his name is always there when Winston is involved in something negative, but at the same time.. yea hes always there having his friends back when hes in a bit of trouble. Should Jameis stay away from Darby, or should he consider Darby a true and super loyal friend.

I don’t know about Ferraris, but in most cars, the airbag is interlocked to the seat belt. If the seat belt is not buckled, the airbag will not deploy.

Since it looks like the season is already in the crapper, they should trade or release GM & JPP & spend the money on FA DL. Forget Ziggy he signed with Seattle, but there are still others. Also may want to consider releasing Gholston. More cap space. The way it looks now it doesn’t seem like the Bucs have enough to sign all the draft picks.
