Wanted?
Could a couple of rookies whet the appetite of a couple of desperate teams?
That seems to be the case Derrik Klassen of Bleacher Report is trying to make.
With this Quinnen Williams of Alabama and Houston manbeast Ed Oliver so coveted by teams, Klassen believes the teams drooling for a defensive tackle will fall over themselves to acquire Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.
McCoy’s value may even increase this year given the gap between Alabama’s Quinnen Williams, Houston’s Ed Oliver and the rest of the defensive tackle class. Any team that misses out on either of those prospects should be eyeing McCoy to fill the same void.
Well, on paper, this makes sense. But Joe can also think of 13 million reasons trading GMC might be much easier said than done.
Joe only hopes if the Bucs do unload GMC, it is because they draft Williams or Oliver.

Well once again Licht and Arians have done nothing but devalue the situation , Which I must make clear AGAIN !!!
Starting at 8 , devalue is 6 and added value is 9 or 10 so the difference in being a bozo and not adding value is severe , especially when repeated over and over !!! Just take D Jax on a scale of 1 to 10 last year was a value of 8 or 9 this year light got a 3 !!!

I’m not a fan but for a team w that need and established leaders he can be a stud addition , oh and a staff that he can’t manipulate . He has controlled and manipulated his position and this team from year two forward and shame on the Glazers for allowing a politician and not a bad ass playa!!!

No team will trade for McCoy. He’s guaranteed to be cut. Simple as that. If he was 26 years old, completely different story.

It is well known that GMC was on the trading block and the Bucs couldn’t trade him
In the History of the NFL has any player been built up like this one with hype
No one will pay 13 million GMC is not worth it
No one past number 6 in the Draft has a chance at either two of these DT so why would they wait to trade until after the draft
Teams are waiting for him to be cut and then they can pick GMC up for 5 million or he will retire

Reality #1: Bucs can’t afford to pay GMC $13 mil.
Reality #2: Bucs can’t trade GMC now because every NFL team KNOWS Reality #1 is true.
Reality #3: Bucs will release GMC AFTER the draft, assuming that we’ve drafted a DT to replace him. If we didn’t, heaven only knows what’ll happen.
Reality #4: When released, GMC will be free to negotiate with the highest bidder, of which at least half a dozen teams will fall in line to procure his services.
Reality #5: Bucs fans will have to find someone else to complain about, but the good news is that we always find a plethora of scapegoats.

I can easily see a team taking on a contract they can get out of next year without any cap hit especially if they can fit him under their cap. Hoping chucky is crazy enough to do it while going for the young edge rushers instead of Q Williams

McCoy wants to be cut, then he can choose a team like Dallas, this is why he would not restructure and I don’t blame him. He also knows nobody is trading for his 13 million dollar salary.

So this staff wanted him on this team apparently thusly proving to me Deonnne and Minter are not the answers. Would it not make replacing the player you clearly wanted your number 1 priority come draft night..

the bucs already drafted GMC’s replacement in the first round last year. the trade will happen sometime between the middle of the 1st round and the end of day 2. probably between days rather than when somebody is on the clock. the bucs will convert some salary to bonus to help it go down, and they will draft D line further down in the draft after snagging devin white at #5

McCoy’s value would be a late round draft pick or a move up of a few spots in Day 2. He’s a highly paid, above average veteran player who has 1-2 more years of that production before he retires or is ok with being a part time player. You don’t give up much for those players.
The reality is that the McCoy trade talk is due to the perpetual 5-11 Bucs being in cap hell. If the team has a clean enough cap you would keep McCoy but because the front office is a dumpster fire they can’t overpay Donovan Smith, sign a free agent Punter, sign the draft picks and keep McCoy at the same time, it’s just too much for a dumb dumb like Licht to figure out. So McCoy will most likely get to taste his first playoffs next season playing for another team that knows what it’s doing.

Vita Vea was not drafted to replace GMC. He was drafted to play next to him. The scheme change won’t change that because we’ll be in nickle most of the time.
Drafting his replacement WILL change it though, which I think is the hope.
Unless the Bucs want GMC to create the illusion that he will be cut.
Remember h8s salary is already figured in. So are the draft picks according to Bucs Insider, who says neither Spotrac nor Over the Cap are accurate.

I agree with the D Line, D Line, O Line group but’s it’s much easier saying Polite will be there in the 2nd and Jenkins in the 3rd.
If a run does come on the D Line and Simmons goes higher than expected, Polite could easily slide into the bottom the 1st.
Especially just before the Patriots pick.
If a scenario like that goes down, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least for a team to offer up a 2nd or 3rd for GMC.
Any team out there thinking they can just add him AFTER the draft is freakin crazy and playing the same game teams do who covet QBs.
I think/hope we are all pleasantly surprised!!

Idiot Licht could and should have traded GMC and Djax last year and would’ve received reasonable compensation. Instead he waited until everyone knew Djax wanted out of Tampa and now everyone knows the BUCs will cut GMC. Worse GM ever! Bucs are pretty much forced to pick Oliver if he’s there at 5. Hopefully after this next year, there will be a new GM and possibly a new QB.

McCoys position is simple…If he’s taking a pay cut, at least jump on a winning team to enjoy the few yrs he’s got left. Why would anyone take a pay cut to stay in Tampa?….We have to severely over pay everyone to get anyone worthwhile to come here. That’s the reality of our GM….he could have positioned this entire team better last year when guys like McCoy and Jackson had better value….but Licht is chasing his tail from one draft to the next.

So the two national sources that everyone references … Spotrac AND Over-the-Cap … are BOTH wrong, but Bucs Insider is right? It’s obvious GMC’s salary is figured in at present, because he’s still on the team. And they make a separate calculation for the rookie pool, assuming of course that we pick where we’re presently slotted to pick.
From all I’ve ever read, it’s the Top-51 rule that we need to be concerned about. Which means that IF we draft 7 players AND keep all 7, that their salaries will replace the salaries of 7 players in the PRESENT Top-51. Check some of my past comments and I’ve acknowledged that before.
I have no idea what you mean Bonzai when you said that it’s not true that the Bucs can’t pay GMC his $13 mil. If you’re implying that they can cut someone else to come up with the $$$, then obviously that’s true. But apparently the only one they asked to stay home was GMC. Doesn’t it seem rather strange that they’d say that IF their intent was to keep GMC and cut another comparable player?

Bobby M … If by “Licht is chasing his tail from one draft to the next” you mean that he has poor vision when it comes to TEAM-BUILDING, then I wholeheartedly agree. When Jason was hired, his comments about his philosophy of team-building when he was introduced included the following …
“Our philosophy is going to be to build through the draft. That’s where we find our stars. That’s where we find the next generation. But also in the short term and long term we’re going to supplement our roster through free agency. But we’re going to look for value. We’re going to spend wisely.”
It sounded good … philosophically that’s an ‘A’. The implementation after 5 years, however, has been closer to a ‘D’ considering that we now have a 5-11 team in salary Cap he11.

1) the bucs have talked regularly and openly about the fact that they see him playing lots of 3 technique despite his NT size and strength. that isn’t to say that they shouldn’t get more quality DTs in this draft, just that they might not see ANOTHER top top 10 DT pick as their biggest need
2) i agree that he will absolutely not be a backup. however, if he hits the open market he is competing almost head to head with Suh and looking at teams that have filled their burning issues in either FA or the draft. i predict they will get the same sort of shocking lowball offers that safeties got last year due to all the excitement around this DL draft class

I am not sure what I am missing. GMC is a 3 tech dt. There is no need for that in a 3-4 defense. There is s noise and the de play a 5tech. Vita Vea is a true nose and will be perfect in Bowles defense. Q. William’s is also a nose I could not imagine a team spending back to back first round picks on a nose tackle when only 1 can be on the field at a time. Even though he is a great prospect it just doesn’t make sense. Oliver is also a man beast I am a huge fan but he is also played nose in a 3-4 defense in college but is projected to be a 3tech dt in the NFL and will probably be a Raider.
