Bad News On Kendell Beckwith
April 16th, 2019It’s been one year since the car accident that messed up Kendell Beckwith’s ankle so badly he’s never practiced since.
Most of Beckwith’s teammates have been conditioning at One Buc Palace for two full weeks but Beckwith is not, so said general manager Jason Licht today at his annual predraft news conference.
Beckwith is not cleared to practice and he and the Bucs are evaluating his condition with specialists. Licht was unclear on whether Beckwith’s injury would affect the Bucs draft, but logic says it certainly will.
It feels like ancient history, but Beckwith, the final pick of the third round in the 2017 NFL Draft, played every game his rookie season.
He made 11 starts, including stepping in successfully at middle linebacker when Kwon Alexander was injured in Week 1. Beckwith had seven tackles for loss and 60 solo tackles. The Bucs used him off the left edge but he clearly was out of position there.
Joe wishes Beckwith well.

Sad situation after healing quick from surgery out of college and being a solid play maker, dude was on the brink of being a standout and a solid pick.
Wish him and his family well.

#REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

More like no news

Id say stick a fork in him at this point. Sounds harsh and I wish hi we but at this point if he can’t practice he likely will never suit up in a game again.
April 16th, 2019 at 11:43 am
Too bad. Beck look like he had promise.
Does anyone out there still question our lack of depth at LB?!
April 16th, 2019 at 11:46 am
Devin White will be the pick at #5 if they stay or they could trade back a few spots for Devin Bush. This LB corp was decimated last year and that included second and third string players.
White is known for nothing but being a leader on the field. People keep talking about what we’re going to do to replace JPP. But what are we going to do when we have to replace LVD (who I still think has plenty in the tank) eventually.
Need to add another gem to add to this banged up, no name LB corp. that’s going to run a 3-4.
April 16th, 2019 at 11:49 am
Sad for the kid….
April 16th, 2019 at 11:50 am
Devin White it will be……Lee’s head is gonna explode!!!
April 16th, 2019 at 11:51 am
@SOEbuc. I wouldn’t be mad a White being the pick, but think with Lichts track record on LBs they probably take one later. Beck was a 3rd and and Alexander was a 4th and they both turned into quality starters when healthy. Im starting to agree with Joe that a cover LB may not be the best pick in round 1, although i dont see why White couldn’t rush the passer for time to time.

Really bad news for the Bucs & Beckwith……not being cleared after all this time speaks volumes…..good luck, Kendell….
April 16th, 2019 at 12:08 pm
Beckwith = Smokescreen. Bet he miraculously shows up after the draft.
Right now almost everyone believes we are picking D White. Mission accomplished!
This is just like last year everyone was certain we were picking Derwin James. My money is still on Oliver.
April 16th, 2019 at 12:13 pm
Yet I distinctly remember a passionate buffoon on the Ira Kaufman podcast telling us that Linebacker isn’t a need even though we lost Kwon and Adarius Taylor to free agency. And no we learn what we all expected to be true, that Beckwith still hasn’t been cleared to play and likely wont ever be.
But Linebacker isn’t a need. Look I’d firmly be in favor of us drafting Brian Burns 5th over all if Q, Bosa and Allen ain’t there. Dude is 20 years old and has probably the highest ceiling of any pass rusher in this draft. And he put pressure on the QB at a ridiculous pace his last season at Fsu so production certainly meets potential. Unlike surefire bust Rashaan Gary.
But to suggest drafting a 21 year old potential all pro MLB, that can cover sideline to sideline and potentially help us shut down Kamara and McCaffrey who are nightmares in our own division, would be a bad pick is pure unadulterated hogwash.

Sad news for a promising young player.
April 16th, 2019 at 12:20 pm
Poor kid. Showed so much promise. Such a shame. Good luck Kendell.
April 16th, 2019 at 12:24 pm
Beckwith is proof you don’t need to reach for a MLB @ #5

DAMN SHAME!
April 16th, 2019 at 12:29 pm
I REALLY liked how he played. I feel like he was a major upgrade over Kwon at MLB. He was out of position at SAM and outside LB and still produced. At this point, must consider him done. If he does anything ever again, it is a welcome bonus. Unfortunate.

Another guy who wasted his talent and God given abilities by making bad choices. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
April 16th, 2019 at 12:40 pm
Neal
“although i dont see why White couldn’t rush the passer for time to time.”
Exactly what BA and Bowels when they got here. Said they were going to be blitzing a lot with LVD at MLB. White has the size and strength of a dlineman with 4.4 speed.
PICTURE THIS GUY AND LVD BLITZING UP THE MIDDLE BEHIND VEA. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND???
April 16th, 2019 at 12:58 pm
The guy had talent. Terrible. So sorry to see. Best of luck to him.

“More like no news”
This. Assumed he’s been f8cked / not practicing till we hear otherwise
April 16th, 2019 at 1:30 pm
Don’t rush back for voluntaries. I wonder how far off he is? Season is still a long way out, so he may still be able to make it back for week 1. Fingers crossed.

Agreed 100%, T-REX.
Well said.
April 16th, 2019 at 1:36 pm
That’s a real shame. Best of luck to him.
Did Stevie T ever come back from his injury or did they release him?
April 16th, 2019 at 2:50 pm
Sorry to hear about Beckwith. Could have really used him. Now have to face some hard choices at 5. Need a pass rusher but hard to pass on Butkus award winner that is a plug in starter in a 3-4 system. Good luck Kendall, typical Buc Luck.
April 16th, 2019 at 2:59 pm
Hopefully he had good insurance in place to help him recoup lost wages or the other driver did
Sad
April 16th, 2019 at 3:19 pm
More like Old News.
Really did not expect him to report BEFORE the draft. Even if healing fine, not letting people know is valuable.
April 16th, 2019 at 3:34 pm
If they draft Q or Oliver, then they will run a 4-3 defense will match the personnel they have.
If they are both gone by #5, then they should trade back with the Redskins and get Bush for their 3-4 defense. Then they will get an extra 2nd & 4th round picks.
Dexter Lawrence (340 Lbs) would also be a great choice in the middle 1st round.
With an extra 2nd round pick they could lock down Darrell Henderson (27 TD’s) and won’t need to worry so much about defense.
April 16th, 2019 at 3:53 pm
This guy was a player and solid citizen
April 16th, 2019 at 4:01 pm
Trade back, get White and another first round pick in the trenches (either side of the ball) and everyone will be happy. Everyone loves White, just not at #5. If we can somehow get another pick and still land him EVERYONE wins.
April 16th, 2019 at 9:50 pm
Severe ankle traumatizing events are tough to recover from especially for an elite athlete that needs speed and power. Best wishes Kendall! Damn!
April 16th, 2019 at 10:03 pm
We have some of the worst luck in the league…but doesn’t luck often coincide with skills, commitment to activities, and a solid plan of attack – yeah, none of which our Bics have possessed in many years
Maybe we should draft a few more small school prospects with a history of injuries…not like it would stray from the past of most of our drafts -or kids with mid range talent and lots of HEART…
How many head cases and physical inadequacies must we draft before lesson is learned?
Sears, Bowers, ASJ to name a few….
How about we go “Safe” this year and maybe we actually get some return on investment
Beckwith was a mid round luck find and now he is gone, much like many a wasted pick in our history….
April 16th, 2019 at 10:10 pm
@Z31
We shall see!
April 17th, 2019 at 10:17 am
If we trade down I think D. Bush would still be available. Who I think is as good as White. Bring Beckwith along slow. Who knows he still may be able to play some time in the future. Keeping my fingers crossed.
April 17th, 2019 at 2:11 pm
Why would anyone expect there to be any different news whatsoever before the draft?
