Trading Down With The Broncos?
April 7th, 2019So what will the Bucs do with their first-round draft pick in 18 short days?
In 2016, they traded down. In 2017, they stayed and prayed and got their man, O.J. Howard. Last year they traded down.
Clearly one can deduce that general manager Jason Licht is a fan of the trade-down route. Hey, if the draft is a lot of guesswork, then it’s good to have extra guesses.
NFL Network analyst and former stud running back Maurice Jones-Drew says he smells a possible Bucs trade down with the Broncos, who hold the No. 10 overall pick. The Bucs are at No. 5.
Jones-Drew believes Denver’s new head coach, Vic Fangio, would covet LSU linebacker Devin White. Remember, Fangio, in Chicago last year, did see first-hand the impact a rookie linebacker can make (Roquan Smith). And maybe he even drove a few hours north to see another rookie linebacker, Darius Leonard, dominate the NFL in Indianapolis.
So let’s play along, would the Broncos’ second-round pick (No. 41 overall) be enough to make that deal? Maybe. But more likely the Bucs would want a fourth-rounder thrown in, too. The Bucs moved down from No. 7 overall to No. 12 in a trade with the Bills that also brought back the No. 53 and No. 56 picks.
In that scenario, maybe the Bucs make linebacker Devin Bush their No. 10 overall pick and then take an edge rusher like Jaylon Fergusuon and a running back in Round 2.
Nothing quite like draft-fantasy fun on an April Sunday.
April 7th, 2019 at 12:13 pm
The Bucs have so many holes in their roster I wouldn’t complain if they traded down and collected additional picks. Maybe find a left guard that doesn’t suck or a linebacker that doesn’t lead the league in missed tackles or a right tackle that can run block and pass block or a cornerback that isn’t a little fragile china doll or a safety that doesn’t suck… Oh and maybe a few D-lineman to rush the passer…
April 7th, 2019 at 12:16 pm
*left tackle, right guard…
April 7th, 2019 at 12:16 pm
Devin Bush + extra 2nd and 4th rd picks sounds PERFECT!
Make it happen Jason Licht.
April 7th, 2019 at 12:16 pm
Trade away our chance at Mr. White….LOL….yep, expected! Q, gone….Allen gone, and we can trade Mr. White? For their 2nd and a measly 4th? HAHAHA!!!!! SOOOOOOO glad youre not in charge Joe. You kill me sometimes!!!!
Again…
You act like he cant pass rush….dude has 4.42 speed at 240lbs.
You act like that wont be utilized in a 3-4.
You act like we have NOBODY at DE when we do have JPP and Nassib for at least a few more years.
You act like theres NO glaring need at LB when all we really have is LD54.
But go ahead, keep up the act….i just laugh. Youre probably the same one who was lobbying for us to extend freefree when he was clearly losing it, and probably the same one who was lobbying for us to draft ole johnny boy manziel.
Look, Im also in the Q and Allen camp. If one of them is there, you pull the trigger (they wont be)….if not, easy, you draft D. White! Need, Talent, and BPA meet for us at pick 5-8, which for us would be Mr. White. Nuff said!!!!
April 7th, 2019 at 12:18 pm
Love how it would be so foolish for us to draft White at 5. But it is realistic for another team to trade away their first 3 picks for him at our spot.
April 7th, 2019 at 12:31 pm
Oliver @5
Go BUCS
April 7th, 2019 at 12:33 pm
And giving LB accolades to formerly drafted LB star players….but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO D. White isnt good enough for us…..good gosh wtf u smoking?
April 7th, 2019 at 12:34 pm
@Just Sayin’ Says
Well said!
April 7th, 2019 at 12:37 pm
don’t over think it licht or glazers that always blows up in their faces… there is no better organization for the Keep It Simple Stupid philosophy
April 7th, 2019 at 12:39 pm
Be aggressive trade UP and get Allen, Q or really swing for the fences and get Bosa. Scared money don’t make money.
And what’s the point of extra picks he’ll just f around and draft another MJ Stewart. Licht is not to be trusted with 2nd round picks.
April 7th, 2019 at 12:40 pm
“Dunce Cap” Licht will always pass on the sure monster player to pick up projects that will go bust.
April 7th, 2019 at 12:40 pm
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not hating on a D. White pick, I just want us to go dline with the first pick. Trench warfare. Replacing GMC with the same explosive get off in Oliver is a no brainer imo. And a hell of a lot cheaper.
Go BUCS
April 7th, 2019 at 12:41 pm
Bosa, Allen, Williams, Oliver, and White… We should just sit tight and get one of the best players. If no QB’s go in the top 4 we might trade back a couple slots to a QB needy team and target White but I don’t think we would move back so far that we couldn’t still get White. Tell NY that we are shopping the pick and ask for their 4th to move up 1 slot so get their choice at QB then take White at 6…
April 7th, 2019 at 12:42 pm
I’m not into trading back too far like some are. A couple of 2nd round picks each with the value of Ronald Jones does not interest me. Maybe you have more confidence in Licht making good on second round picks but not me.
April 7th, 2019 at 12:45 pm
Trading down certainly takes the pressure off the GM….subconsciously perhaps….seriously the roster has all the well known holes on both OL & DL in either order…
April 7th, 2019 at 12:52 pm
Get Oliver
April 7th, 2019 at 12:58 pm
Sometimes, you do know.
April 7th, 2019 at 12:59 pm
If 1 QB goes in the top 4 we will land either Allen, Williams, or Oliver…
April 7th, 2019 at 1:01 pm
Anything can happen on draft night. Rapaport says this is an important week for Ohio State QB prospect Dwayne Haskins. Source said he’s got visits to the facilities of the #Redskins and #Broncos this week… two teams doing homework on all the top passers. What if the Giants are more interested in Haskins than they let on. They could trade up 1 to keep other teams from getting their QB of the future. Now wouldn’t that be special! Go Bucs!
April 7th, 2019 at 1:04 pm
Whatever makes the least amount of sense is what the idiots will do.
Yea I’m sure Licht will make a pro bowl pick with a 4th rounder lol.
Can’t even count on that moron to make a decent 2nd round pick.
Stay a 5 and take the best player available because they will screw it up from there on. I have zero trust in Licht or anyone else for that matter.
6-10
April 7th, 2019 at 1:05 pm
Actually sure do it. Who cares.
6-10 is 6-10 either way.
April 7th, 2019 at 1:10 pm
Q, Allen, Oliver, or White @ 5 are great picks.
It seems prudent to be suspect of any 2-3rd picks that come from Licht and company. They don’t seem to be a source of TB success stories.
April 7th, 2019 at 1:16 pm
Williams,Oliver,Allen at 5 in that order. If they are not there at 5 trade back. The trenches have too perform this year to make the rest of it work.
April 7th, 2019 at 1:17 pm
Bucs stay at 5 until on clock and take Allen or Quinnen if one falls. If neither falls I’d bet that bengals move from 11 to 5 for Haskins or Lock and bucs scoop
a Burns, Sweat, Oliver or Lawrence type at 11 and add bengals 2nd and 3rds this year. Then package the two 2nd and move back up into late first for Bradbury. Bradbury can play RG rookie year and possibly move to center when we cut Jensen next offseasonwhen his guaranteed are gone. That gets us a 3-4 front seven upgrade and solves RG problem. Offense should play top 5 ball again and defense should show some improvement. Then would still
Have bengals and our 3rd rounders both for some BPA possibly a corner, tackle or backer. Possibly could even package the two 3s and get Mack Wilson .
bP
April 7th, 2019 at 1:21 pm
I’ll take White all day I think dude is going to be a monster
April 7th, 2019 at 1:27 pm
I vote for a trade down
April 7th, 2019 at 1:28 pm
Elway is not letting Fangio do anything in round 1 that Elway himself doesn’t want to already do. Nevermind a maybe Jags former RB making that call.
As far as what THIS GUY wrote about a half hour before this article was posted, I said that Elway indeed will likely be looking to trade up with the Bucs at #5 to get ahead of NYG at #6 for Elway’s QB of choice, Drew Lock. He’ll have to make that move to ensure he lands Lock so CIN and NYG do not, and the HAUL of picks that Licht could require for a QB yrade-up is far better than any ILB.
Licht better be shrewd!!
April 7th, 2019 at 1:31 pm
There would be some great players available at #10 including Bush…..but I also like the thought of Bosa, Williams, Allen or White @ 5.
And, most posters are making the mistake of assuming Licht will be making the picks this year……I think not….like I said…..Licht will be saying “Good pick, Todd!!!”
April 7th, 2019 at 1:33 pm
“Good pick, Bruce!!!” if it’s an offensive player.
April 7th, 2019 at 1:33 pm
If you trade down, which I’m not against, it better be to get a starting cornerback. The literally doesn’t have a #1 starting corner, and only a fringe #2 corner in Davis – and if you really want to risk it you could claim VH3 is your #3, but are you risking your season on him being healthy? I’m not.
Anywho I get the build for the future… well this front office has no future if they don’t get some corners.
April 7th, 2019 at 1:35 pm
And…you have to ask the question…..”Is White worth a 1st, 2nd & 4th?”…….not to us he isn’t….we wouldn’t pay that…..but we’d probably take that for him.
April 7th, 2019 at 1:52 pm
Trade down with someone like the dolphins or broncos and get a 2 & 4 along with next years 5th and then you draft ed oliver. And tuen use gmc to trade back into the 1st and get a DL.
April 7th, 2019 at 1:56 pm
Q Williams, Bosa or Allen > Oliver > Trade back > D White. So unless the first 4 picks are all defense, use the pick. Anyone else has to come with at least 2 first round picks (2019 and 2020).
April 7th, 2019 at 1:58 pm
Lol these dudes are completely crazy, I can see trading up for a quarterback but trading up to 5 for a linebacker? It’s not as bad as trading up in the second round for a kicker but it’s close for sure
April 7th, 2019 at 1:59 pm
You drive south to Indy from Chicago
April 7th, 2019 at 1:59 pm
If only Fangio had a say. Elway is going to keep swinging until he connects on a QB. Yes, Bucs-Broncos trade is a real possibility, but Lock is the target.
April 7th, 2019 at 2:02 pm
What should we do withe #5 pick? Use it unless someone comes with at least two #1s (2019 and 2020), Bosa/Allen/Q Williams > Oliver > trade back > D.White
April 7th, 2019 at 2:04 pm
Joe, any word on Beckwith??
April 7th, 2019 at 2:06 pm
Joe, any word/rumor on Beckwith yet??
April 7th, 2019 at 2:10 pm
Extra picks are great when you screw up 50% of them, Licht. Game changers or game wreckers will elevate your whole team. They are few and far in between. If White is just that then only a fool would let him slip away. Licht is a fool, evidenced by his own actions. I’d rather see the Bucs move up for Allen or Stay put and pick Oliver. I don’t like trading down more than 1 or 2 spots, but with Licht it never works out well. Not much faith in him.
April 7th, 2019 at 2:11 pm
Wow, imagine that … a HC who actually ‘covets LSU linebacker Devin White’. So what does Licht do in this scenario? Trades our ‘rights’ to Devin White away because Bucs don’t ‘covet LBs’ like that. Nah, we’d much rather grab an extra 2nd so we can draft MJ Stewart a 2nd time.
And for those anticipating a great ‘haul’, what makes anyone think Devin Bush will be there when we’d pick #10? (The Lions are also possibly eyeing a MLB and they pick #8).
April 7th, 2019 at 2:12 pm
Starting to warm up to the idea of Oliver. Watched some tape, he looks like a beast! Arians kind of tipped his hat when he said draft a HOFer with 5 and hope you’re never draft that high again.
April 7th, 2019 at 2:25 pm
I think Oliver is our pick at #5 but you never know how the draft will unfold. Excluding QB’s there are 5 elite prospects White being one of them. Sitting at #5 we will land one of them and if a QB goes top-4 then we will have our choice between a couple of them.
April 7th, 2019 at 2:43 pm
Those 2 LBs are damn near identical. What they are is 1a & 1b. Devin W. is 6′ 240lbs while Devin B. is 5’11” 237 lbs. DW’s 40 time was 4.42, DB’s 40 time was 4.43. DW 3 cone time 7.07, DB’s 3 cone time 6.93. The biggest thing I noticed was during LSU’s bowl game while many of LSU’s top players refused to play, he not only played, but he refused knowing where the College Advisory Committee had him rated until after that game. That was the most impressive thing I’ve heard about a Jr.
April 7th, 2019 at 2:55 pm
If there was, you’d know about it. That’s not something to hide or put on the backburner.
April 7th, 2019 at 2:55 pm
Been there, done that. A few times.
April 7th, 2019 at 3:10 pm
@Defense rules. It would be pretty surprising for Bush not to be there @10 overall. If he weren’t than Ed Oliver should still be. LB is important but I’m all about the pass rushers in our 3-4 taking priority. I have some concern with JPP who really is a 3 technique but his talent should win out. Besides, let’s be honest. GMC is as good as gone. As soon as Licht gets a Chick Fil A sandwich for him, he will jump.
April 7th, 2019 at 3:12 pm
How about refusing to trade with either. Make them trade with someone higher than us to take a qb. That just means we have a better shot at one of the big names.
April 7th, 2019 at 3:26 pm
stay at five and take Oliver
April 7th, 2019 at 3:42 pm
Need to adress Dline/ Oline / LB / DB/ RB soo many holes
April 7th, 2019 at 4:02 pm
If Williams, Bosa, and Allen are gone at 5 then draft White. If we trade back, use those extra picks to trade back into the first round. This team needs day 1 starters on defense. And btw, Devin Bush is projected to be picked in the last half of the first round. White is the sixth best draft prospect in the draft. Ed Oliver is up there too, but I’m not sold on Oliver and we need someone to replace Kwon.
April 7th, 2019 at 4:16 pm
It doesn’t matter where you draft if you can’t choose good players. #PaidFloridaVacation
April 7th, 2019 at 4:18 pm
@JOE….Can we get an update on Kendall Beckwith ???
April 7th, 2019 at 4:22 pm
What update??? Joe spoke with Jason Licht about this at the combine (on the record). Nothing has changed that Joe is aware of.
Trust Joe, info on Beckwith is not something to hold back on. If Joe had info, he’d share it ASAP.
If you want Joe to speculate, well, the tea leaves suggest Beckwith’s career is in jeopardy. But Joe *does not* know that.
Hope that helps.
April 7th, 2019 at 4:37 pm
We won’t hear anything definitive about Beckwith until after the draft……Licht won’t telegraph our LB needs and Beckwith is an important piece.
We may be able to tell somewhat by OTA activity but I doubt we will know his true status.
We have probably somewhat botched the GMC restructure by the non-positive comments from BA & Licht.
In order to restructure successfully, you have to have a player who really wants to stay. It’s not dead but is on life support.
April 7th, 2019 at 4:48 pm
I want to see us draft D. White just to watch Joe go insane. Then laugh at him later when D. White turns out to be a BEAST.
April 7th, 2019 at 5:08 pm
I think DT Jeffery Simmons might slide down a few notches.
Every year, we see a player fall. I think he is the guy…of course, I don’t believe ANY quarterbacks will be taken in the top 4.
April 7th, 2019 at 5:12 pm
IF…only IF…we don’t land QUINNEN by a myriad of proactive attempts to do so, THEN you trade back, maybe not even once but twice for the mother LOAD of picks. Then do your damage. There are so many above-average players through at least 2 rounds, but they’re NOT QUINNEN.
So you get QUINNEN. Or go score the MOTHER LOAD. Just don’t live in the nauseating middle ground.
April 7th, 2019 at 5:13 pm
Bonzai you do know Simmons has a torn ACL right?
April 7th, 2019 at 5:35 pm
Licht will screw it up. 0 confidence, sadly…
April 7th, 2019 at 5:42 pm
They must trade down…it’s the only way they can build through the draft sooner, and also afford to pay quality players. RG, DT. RB, S for starters. If they can get three picks in the first two rounds, that would be great.
April 7th, 2019 at 5:44 pm
“…the tea leaves suggest Beckwith’s career is in jeopardy. But Joe *does not* know that.”
Well that’s just great–add LB to the position of need. A year ago it was arguable the Bucs had a chance to have one of the LB corps in the league…then bang.
April 7th, 2019 at 5:55 pm
Nobody trades up unless they are grabbing a QB. MLB has limited value in the 2019 nfl. Cmon bro
April 7th, 2019 at 6:03 pm
We should all get used to the idea of Devin White or (hopefully) Ed Oliver. Both would be good selections it’s just a matter of which one will be special, cause it is unlikely both will be.
April 7th, 2019 at 6:19 pm
I believe Beckwith will be fine, but the mystery has created a perceived need at LB. I mean if Beckwith is healthy do we need a LB in the first? Would White even be mocked to us? I think he is fine, and just like hanging on to GMC this long, it just adds to the mystery of where we will go in the draft.
I just don’t see a bad ankle ruining someone’s career and looking back at interviews from last year, Beckwith seemed very close to coming back.
I am in the trade down club for sure if the top 3 Lineman are gone. This would be a great scenario to still be able to get a Oliver, Sweat, Wilkins type of player. Worst case you grab a stud Olineman and pick up a few extra day 2 picks.
April 7th, 2019 at 6:22 pm
If the Bucs thought Beckwith would be ready to rock and roll they would be crowing about it. In fact, they would have been beating their chest that they already have Kwon Alexander’s replacement.
Instead, crickets (when repeatedly asked).
Feel free to draw your own conclusions.
April 7th, 2019 at 6:33 pm
I agree that it doesn’t look good for us with Beckwith…..but you never know for sure until you know.
Licht wouldn’t want to totally rule Beckwith out…..so at least there is some question regarding our LB situation…..this could even effect us in later rounds…..if teams know we are looking at a LB they want they could jump in front of us.
April 7th, 2019 at 6:44 pm
I’m not ok with trading down. If you move back to ten and lose the guy(s) you had hoped for and have to settle for quantity over quality id rather stay put at 5.
What good about Oliver is with his speed he can be a 290 lb train of death blitzing as a LB, he can play end, he can play everywhere. He’s got strong hands and he’s nasty. He can jump, he reads the qb, gets his hands up. HES A DOG! Id take him at 5 dude would be a game wrecker all over the filed.
Turn in the card Bruce.
April 7th, 2019 at 7:17 pm
I wouldn’t trade down either! I have no faith Jason can do anything with the extra picks but reach for someone who he could have got 3 rounds later! Go with a sure thing! Hopefully he doesn’t out smart himself again! Maybe Bruce will knock him out before the card is turned in! Lol
April 7th, 2019 at 7:26 pm
@Bonzai, the more i see of Simmons, the more im on board with excusing his assault on that woman while he was a teen (17 i think) they said she attacked someone in his family, so emotions go crazy when that happens, and I get that when you’re defending fam….still stupid on his part though, hitting her while she was down…..
Imagine if we get White and he’s there for our 2nd rounder (seen many mocks with him at top 5 of 2nd)….that would be glorious! I’ll take it!
Bucs select D. White with their 5th, then J. Simmons with their 39th…
April 7th, 2019 at 8:52 pm
There are 3 realities right now. 1) You have to be a blind optimist to believe everything is fine with Beckwith. The season of lying doesn’t include a smokescreen with Beckwith’s health. When the original estimated timetable was easily surpassed, I immediately felt there is concern that accident ended his career. I still believe that as much as I hope I’m wrong. 2) We will be drafting a defensive player. The only exception I would have believed would be an offensive lineman but there simply isn’t a Quentin Nelson in this draft. 3) McCoy is gonezo.
April 7th, 2019 at 8:58 pm
I know you guys are right, Mike Evans sucks, Ali Marpret sucks, Donovan Smith sucks, Kwon Alexander sucks, Adam Humphries sucks, Jameis Winston sucks, Cam Brate sucks, OJ Howard sucks, Kendall Beckwith sucked before he got hurt, a corner that was drafted as a press man corner sucked as a off zone corner(totally the GMs fault), Justin Evans sucks as a free safety playing 20 off the LOS after he was a in the box saftey in college totally the GMs fault, Ryan Jensen sucks as a zone passive center after he was an aggressive downhill blocker at Baltimore totally the GMs fault. Yeah the GM sucks and I can’t understand why a former 2 time NFL coach of the year and Super Bowl winner would come out of retirement for all this trash talent.
April 7th, 2019 at 9:22 pm
Is it August yet? Holy crap it is so boring without football. Even more boring when your team is making no moves what so ever. Not even renegotiating contracts to free up money. It’s like we are happy being in cap hell and rolling with the players we have. I mean let’s go redo brates deal. Redo McCoy’s deal or trade him. Do something with gholston. Save about 10 million sign Mo Claiborne something to get better. I am juiced about the coaching. But man we are putting all our eggs in one basket. When there are still 10 eggs hiding in plane sight.
April 7th, 2019 at 9:32 pm
The one sensible comment I’ve read on this thread Ndog.
April 7th, 2019 at 9:37 pm
I watched white in the Alabama game and he was invisible. He was pushed back every play. He made some tackles but they were all 6-9 yard gains. I was expecting to see a beast after all this hype from all the joe commenters. I didn’t see a generational linebacker. I saw Alexander clone. Yeah he has great speed but he couldn’t shed blocks at all in that game. And that is as close to nfl competition he saw in college. And he didn’t pass the eye test. That’s not a guy you draft 5th overall. If he didn’t run a 4.42 he still would be considered a 15-30 pick. I don’t care what you run. Ab ran a 4.63 and he looks like the fastest wide receiver in the game. I want someone who offensive coaches are going to have to game plan against. He is not that he will be abused in coverage. Koetter will be drooling to run play action at him and watch him night why they hit the middle of the field all day long. Yeah he might have a good game against cam containing him from running. But Mccaffrey will eat us up when white lets him slip out of the back field. And that is the two weakest opponents in the nfc south. Drew Brees with Jared cook and kamara will be even worse to him. A overplaying linebacker that has gotten away in college with it do to his speed wiill be taken advantage of in the nfl. I guarantee a lower drafted linebacker will be more productive then him this year. Give me a freak defensive lineman that coaches try to game plan to stop but he wrecks their game plan. Versus a linebacker all the coaches will gameplan to take advantage of. I really don’t understand if some of you just read pre draft hype articles. And hear an unnamed nfc executive said white will be a 13 year all pro player. Of course some unnamed player would say that if they don’t want to draft him. Hoping he goes before there pick so a person they want has one more oppioto fall to them.
April 7th, 2019 at 9:39 pm
I laugh at logic of many here. They say “take this guy at 5(DL/DE). I attached a paragraph from the Tampa Times breaking down Todd Bowles 3/4 scheme yesterday say the three down linemen are basically “gap penetrators”,and that the outside LBrs hold the primary assignment for QB pressure. Kevin Minter was quoted in the piece saying it’s fun because QBs never know where the blitz is coming from. But these smart guys believe these young men are interested in coming here and becoming gap penetrators or simply put blockers for our LBrs. 😊yea right.
April 7th, 2019 at 9:42 pm
It’s a nice read if any of you are really interested in getting a breakdown for we’re really doing next season. You’ll see a picture of Carl Nassib accosting ol drew brees on the cover page.
April 7th, 2019 at 9:42 pm
It really just depends on what happens in front of them and who falls to them. Then they have to decide on if they want the difference maker at #5 or do they want the extra picks ?
April 7th, 2019 at 9:43 pm
But carry on😊
April 7th, 2019 at 9:46 pm
Plus, it also depends on whether they decide to keep GMC or not
April 7th, 2019 at 9:57 pm
Y’all recall Leonard Williams right the cat from USC that many here wanted the Bucs to select with they’re first pick a few years back. He has a grand total 7 sacks the last two years in Bowles scheme. 2 in 2017 and 5 in 2018. 3/4 schemes don’t normally create sack masters people.
April 7th, 2019 at 10:02 pm
@Ndog
No I didn’t. I’ve been avoiding 98% of the draft…thinking about not even doing a wishlist this year. Just to be surprised.
Although, the son of a woman in my wife’s Bible Study is going to be in the craft room…a WR I think. I’ll be rooting for him to get picked…just not in the first round by us.
I forget his name right now though.
April 7th, 2019 at 10:03 pm
His mother is missing my wife and I’s renewal of vows ceremony because she’ll be in the draft room with him.
Believe me…having an anniversary around draft time has been…difficult. lol
April 7th, 2019 at 10:06 pm
Jeffbuc Says:
“Even more boring when your team is making no moves what so ever. Not even renegotiating contracts to free up money. It’s like we are happy being in cap hell…”
Do so before the draft will prject the picks in the draft. For example…if they restructure GMC, people will know we won’t take a DT..this year.
Although…restructuring Mike Evans should not hurt any.
April 7th, 2019 at 10:06 pm
I dream of the year when the Bucs are able to go into the draft w/ 2 first round picks….
I’d love to see them finagle a first out next year, but I’ve yet to see evidence of Licht being able to swing that kind of deal…. Always hoping though.
April 7th, 2019 at 10:33 pm
NOSBOS,
The article says Dline are gap penetrators, so why would a dline men want to come here..so he could be a gap….a 1 gap player. …… Which is a gap penetrating linemen. Sheesh…..
April 7th, 2019 at 10:40 pm
Write a book that details how one man with a severe reading comprehesion disability, anointed himself the “smartest fan in Tampa Bay “.
April 7th, 2019 at 11:37 pm
These negative Nancy’s on here act like no other GM misses on some of there draft picks. Atl and New Orleans have been pretty good but so has Jason. Especially since the corners will fit this new system better. The Cardinals have been awful you’ll better hope Licht is getting final say. Go look up the Cardinals and Jets picks over the last 6 years. Qbs alone they missed in 3-4 high picks.

D1 you do realize in a 3/4 system that gap penetration is to draw the attention of multiple olinemen and necessarily to sack QBs right.. Now if they come free by all means go sack the QB. But that is not they’re primary assignment. Study Belichess’s defense or tweet and ask Leonard Williams bro.

NOSBOS … Good point about gap penetration. If folks took a look at Belicheck’s salaries ‘distribution’ they’d see where he puts his emphasis (Hint: it’s NOT on his DLine). Besides Tom Brady ($27 mil) his highest paid players are Devin McCourty (FS) gets $13.4 mil; Dont’a Hightower (LB) gets $10.0 mil; Stephon Gilmore (CB) gets $9.2 mil. Big drop-off after those ‘Big 4’. Pats highest paid DLineman, Lawrence Guy (DE) gets $4.5 mil. Hmmm, one ‘senior field leader’ at FS, CB & LB (kinda reminds me of the Bucs ‘glory days’ with Lynch, Barber, Brooks & Sapp as our ‘senior field leaders’).
For comparison, the Bucs DLine is scheduled to make $47.2 mil this year (highest in NFL). The Pats DLine is scheduled to make $12.6 mil (#29 in the NFL). Our DBs are scheduled to make $13.9 mil this year (#31 in the NFL), while the Pats DBs will make $47.9 mil this year (#2 in the NFL).
Quite the disparity in PRIORITIES it appears. But hey, what do the Super Bowl champs know. Let’s draft another DT or DE at #5 and surely our luck will change.
