D-Linemen Marching To One Buc

Sack monster.
There is a parade of defensive linemen on their way for private sitdowns with Bucs brass at One Buc Palace.
In addition to Houston terror Ed Oliver and Clemson roid-taker Dexter Lawrence being in Tampa for pre-draft visits to meet Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Light and head coach Bucco Bruce Arians, there is another beast of a defensive end expected to drop in at Casa Glazer.
Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, the NCAA record-holder in sacks, Jaylon Ferguson of Lousiana Tech, is also expected to drop in on the Bucs.
The case of Ferguson is interesting. He initially was barred from the NFL combine in Indianapolis because NFL goons found out about a late-night hassle Ferguson was involved in at a McDonalds when he was a freshman.
Joe puts little to no concern over this. Who among us hasn’t wanted to slug someone after eating dissatisfying Chicken McNuggets following a night session of boozing and swilling beers? Ferguson seems to have a clean record since.
Ferguson, who had 45 sacks in four seasons at Louisiana Tech, including 17.5 last year, did just fine against the big boys of football, specifically SEC teams. Last year he had two sacks against Mississippi State and a sack against LSU.
Two key points from NFL analyst Lance Zierlein of NFL.com about Ferguson is that he jumped in ability and production from his junior to senior seasons and that 27 percent of his tackles were for loss.
Added Zierlein, Ferguson is an “extremely productive edge defender with an NFL-caliber frame that continues to take shape. Ferguson plays with good toughness at the point of attack and became a much more disruptive run defender as the season progressed. He appears to have average athletic traits but benefits from an instinctive pass-rush approach. He has experience as an edge linebacker, but his length and build increase the likelihood he’ll be targeted as an even-front defensive end with potential to become a good NFL starter.”
Joe just wants a damn pass rusher. A dude that the Bucs can rely on for the next decade. A guy that makes his teammates better and gets production. If that means the Bucs have to buy him 10-years worth of certificates from McDonald’s, so be it.
The thing that impresses Joe about this Ferguson is that he is always trying to punch the ball out of quarterbacks’ hands while going for a sack. Just like a former Bucs defensive end that wears a Super Bowl ring and should be in the Hall of Fame.

Draft Devin White at 5, trade back into the first and pick up Ferguson, He will not make it past the Pats to get to the 2nd round. Or trade back and pick up an extra second, pick Devin Bush, then go get Ferguson. That way everybody is happy. Perfect first three picks is White, Lindstrom and Ferguson

Me likey. That swim at 2:57 was excellent. Getting excited over a college DE that only beats the corner sometimes is stupid. This guy is very very good with amazing motor gotdayum! Still Josh Allen needs to be the priority. Sapp got busted for weed and he turned out ok.

#5 spot is steaming hot for QB needy team to trade up. Especially if Gruden doesn’t take one. Bucs flat out have too many holes, especially on defense. Would not mind trading back with so much defensive talent in the first round. Bush, Greedy, Ferguson, Sweat, etc…

He’s slotted to go late 1st to early 2nd. I’ve seen some mocks that had him our 2nd round pick. He’d be a great choice in #2. There’s a ton of talent to be had in the 2nd round. I’d stand pat and wait for someone to fall to us rather than giving up too much in a panic to chase someone.

There have been so many edge rushers proposed that it seems most will be unhappy with the pick…..so why not pick the best LB….
I’m for trading down and picking one or picking the other Bush & picking Oline & DE in round 2…..
I would almost like to see us pass on a DE just to hear the “Deliverance” style squealing coming from Joe.

White could be really good with some coaching. I think he’s a late 1st early 2nd talent. I’m sure he’ll go earlier than that but I don’t think he should. His tackling technique is bad, he grabs the player up high and I don’t see that working well in the NFL. Another negative on him is he over runs plays and doesn’t stay in his gap. That just sounds too much like we’d be drafting another Kwon (4th round pick) too early.

I’m just encouraged in general by the fact that they are interviewing primarily disruptive DL / OLB / Edge + OL
I’m with the Joe that says he just wants good players. I don’t necessarily care anymore about the order / approach as long as we hit on front 7 + O-line with the best possible players we could have chosen at the time.
If it’s between Josh ALlen & Devin White and you really feel Josh Allen will suck for some reason and White will be an all pro HOFer then take white AND he better be a f*cking all pro or you just sh1t on this team again.
This is Licht’s last big chance to flip this team’s chances via a good draft with good draft position. Don’t F8ck this up man.

I’m loving the fact that we seem to be looking hard at Dline and shopping McCoy. Time to change the attitude in that locker room and love him or hate him it’s time to move on from him. For all those hating the possibility of White to us due to his tackling style. I’m not saying he’s the next Luke K. but go YouTube a Luke highlight reel and you may be shocked to see his style of tackling.

How is GMC trade bait? Philly thought DJAX was worth ten million a year and so we grabbed a couple of low draft picks. Better than nothing.
But if the league believes GMC is overpaid and does not wish to eat his 13 million a year salary…and the Bucs also do not wish to eat his salary…doesn’t ALL the leverage go to GMC.
Why would he take a pay cut from the Bucs when he can simply become an FA and go for the most money he can get? Plus he’d be able to pick his team…more or less.
I understand and agree with the fact that the Bucs do not wish to pay him 13 million, but if nobody else does that means GMC will become an FA. Why would his agent let him sign a reduced contract with the Bucs instead of exploring the open market.
And please GMC bashers save the ad hominem attacks…I’m asking a BUSINESS question here not a football question.

Why would McCoy sign with another team and uproot his family and his community involvement if the Bucs offered similar compensation in a renegotiated contract?
Pride?
Bucs can’t trade him because no one wants his current contract.
Bucs know his current value- either it’s pride or McCoy’s agent thinks he can do better, which is a gamble McCoy may be willing to take.

BucsBall80, I wouldn’t be surprised if our draft looked a lot like what you suggested. I would go pass rush in the 2nd round and wait for a guard in the 3rd. There are so many potential top level pass rushers that one should drop to the top of the 2nd.

Actually was looking up DEs earlier this morning to see if MAYBE there’s a sleeper in the crowd. I found one … Jaylon Ferguson. Personally wouldn’t spend a 1st or a 2nd Rnd pick on him, but IF he’s still there in the 3rd Rnd he’d be the one I’d go after (agree with those who want a MLB first, then RG then go for DLine & RB next … after the 4th Rnd it’s a crapshoot anyways).
Ferguson’s 2018 & 2016 numbers were REALLY impressive, but something apparently went wrong in 2017. Still, he’s got an impressive body of work against some very decent opponents. I like him … HASSLE & all … better than some of the others you’ve trotted out.

Ferguson was off the charts with production, but I would rather the Bucs target more athletic pass rushers.
I would rather them target guys with crazy athletic ability like Sweat or Allen in the first and then target offensive linemen in the 2nd round(Chris Lindstrom, Greg Little, Dalton Risner).

GMC has value….but not $13m worth…….not with us and probably not with anyone else…..
He would restructure if Licht were willing to guarantee a couple of years in return but apparently Licht doesn’t want to do that.
There is still time….I don’t think there will be a restructure or cut until after the draft. Now is possible trade time…..the new team will only trade if GMC is willing to negotiate a better salary with them.
It’s really quite simple.

Just seen a mock draft that I really liked except 1 pick maybe.
It had us trading back with the Cin and getting their 2nd and 3rd pick this year.
So our mocked looked like this.
RD 1. Pick 11# Ed Oliver DE
RD 2. Chris Lindstorm OG
RD 2. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson DB
RD 3. Jachai Polite DE/OLB
RD 4. Damien Harris RB
Round 4 pick is the one I don’t like would much rather go RT, or Safety
And draft Rodney Anderson in round 5 or 6
Also I would swap Chauncey for Amani Oruwaryie

That’s a logical question that could have quite a few answers. My first best guess would be PRIDE. He’s had more shade thrown on him the past few months from Licht/BA than ever in his life.
He may wish to prove a point. His family could still be Tampa residents…and he could always remain here in the off season and when he retires.
It is true that if he refuses to accept the Buc’s lower offer, and nobody else wants him for 13 million and he becomes an FA then his agent can get the most value for him…which POSSIBLY could still be with the Bucs.

Yes SERIOUSLY. I read right here on this site that those in the NFL know believe GMC is not producing at his 13 million paycheck. Obviously there could be an outlier who would pay the money but if NO team does what are the Buc’s options? They literally would not be able to GIVE him away much less negotiate a deal for anything in return.
If GMC would re-negotiate his deal to facilitate a deal perhaps…but my question remains…WHY WOULD HE?
