NFL Network: Bucs Hosting Ed Oliver & Dexter Lawrence Today

April 3rd, 2019

Ed Oliver

Two of the defensive tackle beasts in next month’s NFL Draft, Ed Oliver and Dexter Lawrence are at One Buc Palace today, per the Twittering of Ian Rapoport.

Lawrence isn’t the prospect Oliver is, but Lawrence is a heck of a raw specimen at 6-4, 342 pounds with a ton of athleticism and special feet for a man his size.

  1. Doctor_berto Says:

Lawrence is a poor mans Vea. Doesn’t seem to fit our defense at this point.

  2. ChixDigScarz Says:

Neah….Quinnen Williams for sure! Gonna be such a man beast on our line for next 12 years. Licht needs to find a way to get Quinnen.

  3. Anonymous Says:

    I have Jason pegged
He will trade back then draft the wrong guy
Then he will blow the first 2nd round pick
Then with with the other 2nd he will trade up for a guy that would have been there in the 4th round.

  4. allhailJPP Says:

    Anonymous …nails it lmao

  5. Anonymous Says:

I hope that they get it right like when we drafted Sapp. We fans have suffered long enough and deserve a winning team for once. Don’t overthink it, just stick to your principles and pick up some beasts that will turn this peaceful, non-fear instilling defense into the fearsome group that nobody takes lightly. Go Bucs!!!!

  6. K2 Says:

Oliver is an animal and routinely splits double teams. He has a high motor and makes plays down field. He is a great pick…still love Q. Williams, Bosa, and Allen.

  7. Destinjohnny Says:

    Thats Me destin Johnny haha
It come in without my handle

  8. NOSBOS Says:

Berto explain to me why Oliver or even Williams would fit then??? Y’all say stuff like “93’s replacement “ but that 3 tech is no longer a focal point of this defense.

  9. Not there yet Says:

My hope when we drafted Vea was that he lost some of the extra weight and could take over for Geraldine and that he wasn’t just a space eater.

  10. Polkfan Says:

I’m kinda starting to think Ed > Quinnen. I could see Ed stepping in year 1 and drop double digit sacks. I just don’t have the confidence to say that I’m

  11. NOSBOS Says:

Williams and Oliver are fully aware of what Aaron Donald just recived in his new contract I’ll vicariously speak thru the both of them and tell you they have visions of playing inside in a 4/3 scheme. Not outside as a 3/4 DE. Now why would we draft these kids and force them out of they’re comfort zones inside to play outside??? That’s a recipe for disaster. One our new HC doesn’t have time for and GM can’t afford.

  12. SB Says:

I thought you became a Jags fan NOS

  13. NOSBOS Says:

Not there you need watch more film of Vea. He will be destructive as this team’s 3/4 nose tackle. Too much size,Samoan strength and athleticism.

  14. NOSBOS Says:

    Think again dude.

  15. Polkfan Says:

I’m kinda starting to think Ed > Quinnen. I could see Ed stepping in year 1 and drop double digit sacks. I just don’t have the confidence to say that In Quinnen. Don’t get me wrong he’s a monster but on a pass rushing scale , Ed is just insane. If Jpp plays over guard with Nassib and Barrett as Olb. I can see 45 + sacks with adequate coaching.

  16. NOSBOS Says:

I like Jags because they are in the of Florida and they’ve made it there business to draft athletes out of FSU. If that helps any.

  17. SB Says:

Ahhh so you are not the original NOSBOS
    My bad

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

FINALLY! A Clemson D-lineman! Although, I don’t know how Lawrence would fit in here, especially since we already have Vea.

Food for debate: Is Ed Oliver better than Christian Wilkins? Why?

I will toss this in for something to chew on: Wilkins played against better opposition. They seem to have similar statistics.

  19. Doctor_berto Says:

NOSBOS, Ed Oliver can fit at 3-4 DE, 4-3 3 tech, 3-4 olb and some teams think he can play off the ball linebacker as well. He’s the swiss army knife of d linemen.

  20. Joeypoppems Says:

Ed Oliver at 5 is a good pick. Lawrence, as @Doctor_Berto said, is too similar to Vita Vea. Dont like his fit as much.

  21. Joeypoppems Says:

I would set my wish list for what we do at 5 like this…

    1) Nick Bosa
    2) Quinnen Williams
    3) Ed Oliver
    4) Brian Burns
    5) Josh Allen
    6) Devin White

Id be cool with any of these picks.

  22. 813bucboi Says:

ed oliver can play all along the dline…..

folks asking “where’s he going to play” obviously havnt seen him play or hear when scouts say he can play 3tech, 5tech, DE, 43 34….it dont matter with this kid….

folks sleeping on dexter lawerence…..same size as VV but more athletic…..think fletcher cox or linval joseph….DL would be a good fit but oliver is a great fit….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  23. Country Brew Says:

I could invision Lawerance in the middle and Via & Oliver as DEs.

  24. Lord Cornelius Says:

    only like 3 more weeks

  25. SOEbuc Says:

Oliver is a killer speed boat that is all over the place and won’t stop till the whistle blows. Vea is very athletic, also. These two could shut it down up the middle on run plays and draw double teams on passing. If it works we could have a sick a$$ inside dline for maybe the next decade.

  26. SOEbuc Says:

P.S. for anyone that wasn’t aware…Williams will not be at five.

  27. JabooBuc Says:

Don’t get all the Ed Oliver love. He’s an okay player but not at 5. He IS NOT Aaron Donald. Not by a long shot. He reminds me of a smaller GMC. If they trade down and grab him between 10 and 20 and pick up a 2nd then fine. But absolutely not at 5.

  28. NOSBOS Says:

Scouts can say whatever they please 813,link us the video footage of him doing any of it. I’m not so sure he can because his hands aren’t nearly as good as Williams are. Williams hands appear already on par with Donald. Now if need I can link film session on your guy Oliver bro.

  29. BigHog Says:

    Oliver is too small!!

  30. SeffnerSal Says:

    @SOEbuc says:

“P.S. for anyone that wasn’t aware…Williams will not be at five.”

Well, P.S. guess you haven’t been paying attention to the #6, #8, #10, #11, #13 and #15 teams picking that all need QB’s, especially #11 CIN, #13 MIA, and #15 WAS. They’re probably gonna just sit there with their thumbs up their…and just wait for the Giants to take whomever they want at #6 right? Elway at #10 lusting for Lock, same thing.

And who the hell knows what Gruden is doing at #4, only he does.

So SOE….none of us “know” squat, certainly not you about who will be where and when anywhere in the Top 10 PERIOD.

So let’s cool it with all the declarations and proclamations Nostradamus…

    nosbos

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/ed-oliver-nfl-draft-profile-everything-to-know-about-measurements-strengths-team-fits/

clip#1-he lines up over the center and shows his great pursuit…..
clip#2-lines up outside shoulder of the G and shows the power in his hands…..
    clip #3-he beats a double team for a TFL….
    clip#4- shows his athleticism…..
clip #5- shows him getting skinny in the hole…
clip#6-my favorite…..him dropping in coverage from NT and shadowing the RB…..

Ed Oliver can play any position along the DLine…..

and just about every scout said he was misused at houston…..he’s not a natural NT but he never complained….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  32. ATrain Says:

Is there anyway a Williams is there at 5 ???

  33. ATrain Says:

Hey Joe can The ATrain get out of the DogHouse yet

  34. Doctor_berto Says:

For anyone wondering about Ed Oliver, you should read Stephen White’s write up on him. can find it online

  35. Ptwalk Says:

@813 good post, Ed Oliver all the way. This d line would be sick with him, Vea and JPP. I like Devin White too though. Think he is gonna be a game changer.

  36. Mike Evans Goat Says:

Ed Oliver would have been picked over any defensive player last year. Would have been a consensus top 2 or 3 pick. He wont fall too far. People are afraid he is the next Aaron Donald and they will miss out on him. I feel like him and White are both generational talents.

  37. NOSBOS Says:

You didn’t prove what I asked bro and that was clips of Ed Oliver playing outside I.e DE much like he would be asked to if drafted by the Bucs. See you are of the kind transitioning from interior to outside would be seamless. I beg to differ. I’m still on the fly I’ll send my link of him later on.

  38. NOSBOS Says:

What are we doing with him??? Is he subbing Vea in our 3/4 base package??? Will be our designated 3 tech in nickle packages??? Is he flat out taking the starter role from Vea in our 3/4 base. I just want to know what we are doing with him.. Not his rating, not a scout report, not a nightlight. What are we doing with Ed Oliver from gameplanned stand point???

  39. NOSBOS Says:

C’mon man give me something. I think he waaayy overrated but at least the Josh Allen supporters guy fits the new scheme considering the amount of two point stance in his clips. What role will these 4/3 interior pass rushers fulfill in our new system??? Same question for anyone pro Quinnen Williams.

  40. Polkfan Says:

A 5 tech isn’t far off from a 3tech if I’m not mistaken, the over reaction of he doesn’t fit the scheme is just stupid.

  41. JabooBuc Says:

Mike Evans: I think you have that backwards. People think and hope he will be Aaron Donald. If he was that type of player then who wouldn’t want him? However, he is NOT Donald. He would NOT have been the best defensive player last year.

  42. NOSBOS Says:

He is not Aaron Donald, his hand skills are no where near Aaron Donald’s. The 93 comparison is a good comparison. I’ll just add with a meaner streak about his game and more physical nature when it comes to run stoping. Excellent get off but if you get your hand on him he seems easily handled at the point of attack. And don’t tell me about 3 and 5 being basically the same Pick. If he doesn’t have film indicating he can perform the latter at a high level then why would we be gambling with taking him 5th over all???

  43. NOSBOS Says:

https://youtu.be/-8-0S-YmqPw- PFF has one the tube but I thought this one fair.

  44. NOSBOS Says:

Also Pick you might agree with some that he was playing out of position while at Houston. I think that’s y’all personal opinion. Every clip I see the man is either over nose or the 3. Again is he taking over for Vea our 1st round “pick” from last draft??? Doubt it. Will be a designated 3 in nickle??? That’s a lot of capitol for situational player if so one who is still raw. Or can adjust to being a 3/4 DE??? Haven’t seen the footage that would support that assertion yet.

  45. BuccoBruceJR Says:

(We will never have a chance to get Bosa)

    All for pick #5
    1. Quinnen Williams
    2. Josh Allen
    3. Ed Oliver
    4. Rashan Gary

    Move back and select
    1. Montez Sweat
    2. Devin White
    3.Devin Bush

  46. Bucsfanman Says:

No takers on Oliver vs. Wilkins?!
This is what I’m talking about. I feel like I’m the only one who watched Clemson play last year. Their D-line was in a word, DOMINANT, and dominant against much better competition.
I’m just trying to have a conversation about why everyone is so enamored with Oliver or Sweat when a player like Wilkins is out there.
    Anyone? Bueller?!

  47. Mike Evans Goat Says:

    Jaboo Bucs
Who was the top Defensive player in last years draft then? Chubb was the highest selected DL and Houston is miles ahead of him.
And your right, he isn’t the next Aaron Donald. He’s the first Ed Oliver. He’s the most athletic DT EVER.
    College stats
Aaron Donald 52 games 181 total tackles 66 TFL 29.5 sacks
Ed Oliver 32 games 192 total tackles 53 TFL 13.5 sacks
I like Ed Oliver’s chances to be a STAR.
Plus he was the ONLY player on that Houston defense. Regular double and triple teams
