The Rashan Gary Mystery
April 3rd, 2019There is something about this Rashan Gary that spooks the hell out of Joe.
Gary is thought to be one of the top edge rushers in the draft. Joe has even seen the Bucs linked to him from time to time by various analysts. Gary may have good workout numbers but his numbers on the field — you know, the real numbers that count — are just embarrassing.
In nine games last season, Gary had a grand total of 3.5 sacks. Now how the hell is a guy only able to come up with 3.5 sacks playing against children? And he’s supposed to have better numbers playing against grown-arse men?
Here are some of the opponents Gary played against and what he did against these sorry teams. Michigan played real patsies alright.
Western Michigan: one sack.
SMU: no sacks.
Nebraska: one sack.
At Northwestern: no sacks.
At Rutgers: no sacks.
Indiana: 1.5 sacks.
Joe doesn’t expect Gary to play full games in whitewashes but let’s just take Michigan’s Big Ten opponents: Nebraska, Northwestern, Rutgers and Indiana. Even with total blowouts over Rutgers and Nebraska, those four Michigan opponents threw the ball 108 times. Let’s just say, for argument’s sake, Gary was on the field for 60 of those snaps. So in those four Big Ten games Gary got 2.5 sacks against garbage opponents facing dudes often not old enough to legally buy a bottle of beer?
That is shameful. And Joe cannot get past this, no matter how much of a freak athlete Gary may be. Hell, with those lame numbers he may not have even started for Alabama.
Then Joe recently noticed a Twitter from cranky Greg Gabriel, the former scouting director of the Bears and Joe had an epiphany. Gabriel scouts for “Pro Football Weekly” and various radio stations. He stopped just short of calling Gary a quitter.
Who would you rather have… an all out, glass eating tough guy like Zach Allen who tests as a avg to good athlete or an underachiever like Rashan Gary who picks and chooses his plays but has off the charts testing?
— Greg Gabriel (@greggabe) April 1, 2019
So let Joe get this straight: A dude who likely knew pro scouts were watching him loafed through games? (It’s highly unlikely a college football player would wake up one January day and out of the blue say, “I’m going to turn pro.”) He wasn’t motivated enough to bust his tail for NFL scouts and perhaps bank more coin?
If a guy isn’t motivated and didn’t see fit to turn on the gas against teams that might not win in the Sun Belt, if he was a virtual no-show facing suburban kids more concerned about their Economics 101 mid-term than their football future, then why should Joe or anyone believe this guy Gary will suddenly flip the switch when an NFL team drops millions in his lap?
The Bucs better take a big-time pass on this guy.
This Gary has “Da’Quan Bowers” written all over him, without the guitar and pistol.

Bucs Draft Options in 1st Round (Ranked):
1. Bosa
2. Allen
3. Q. Williams (then trade McCoy for better draft pick)
4. TRADE DOWN
5. Sweat
6. Oliver (then trade McCoy for better draft pick)
7. White

Totally agree with Joes on this–just hoping Jason Licht reads this. This guy has alot of hype too, he has been mocked to Raiders even. So many other sure picks, like Josh Allen or even Quninnen Williams especially if McCoy gets traded. Trade down and get Sweat or Ed Oliver or Devin White. Pass on Rashan Gary–not even second round.

sidenote: that’s the same idiot that didn’t like Antonio Brown coming out of college either
April 3rd, 2019 at 2:52 am
Michigan defenders should be avoided like Clemson defenders. Get Oliver
April 3rd, 2019 at 3:48 am
Hopefully Rashan Gary isnt in the conversation for the Bucs at 5.
But thats an interesting question that Greg asked. I like Zach Allen and if you factor in their projected value, I would take Zach Allen in the 3rd over Rashan Gary in the top 10 any day of the week.
Zach Allen would be a good fit for this team imo, plus makes Gholston and his salary expendable because they would fill the same role.

We all know “I’m smarter than everyone else” Dunce Cap Licht will pick this type of player.
BA, you are the only thing standing in the way of common sense!
April 3rd, 2019 at 6:07 am
I’d happily draft Gary….. at 22. After we traded back 2x and got a mess of other premium picks.
If I was able to secure Jeffrey Simmons, Kahler Saunders, Miles Sanders, and one of the stud guards? Sure, I’ll take Gary as a consolation prize.
April 3rd, 2019 at 6:09 am
And look, we might all be wrong on this guy…he may make JJ watt look like a scrub… but it’s not worth the risk level. I’m fine missing out on a future HOF with this much risk
April 3rd, 2019 at 6:27 am
Totally agree Joe…
April 3rd, 2019 at 6:28 am
Gary also has a weird relationship with his mother. It is offputting to see.
April 3rd, 2019 at 7:06 am
I rather have his teammate chase winovich in the 2nd round

For everyone mentioning Sweat the same article could written about him. Maybe not the part about being a slacker but his production against cupcakes is alarming also.
April 3rd, 2019 at 7:18 am
https://youtu.be/bNhWSqIeTfg See if any of these dudes displayed the technical skill set of our new toy I would be higher on the thought of their potential arrival. They just don’t.
April 3rd, 2019 at 7:21 am
What if he falls to round 2? Should we take him then?
There is going to be a lost of projected first round talent falling into the 2nd this year.

“For everyone mentioning Sweat the same article could written about him. Maybe not the part about being a slacker but his production against cupcakes is alarming also. ”
Level of competition doesn’t matter so much to me. I figure there are just so many roster opportunities that face a lot of high competition.
I care more about drive, health and results regardless of who they face.
After all, when playing against low quality teams, we should expect high quality results right?
April 3rd, 2019 at 7:28 am
Quinnen Williams!
Done and done. Go get Quinnen.
April 3rd, 2019 at 8:23 am
Wrong on so many levels.
April 3rd, 2019 at 8:57 am
Gary scares me I watched tape on him I saw nothing other than an occasional play his combines number don’t match his tape he looks slow off the ball his sacks were even explosive the were pocket break down sacks he doesn’t fly off the ball. I just don’t see it he looks like a 3rd rounder or project to me. Bowers looked better than him.
April 3rd, 2019 at 9:09 am
Really??? Wait ☝🏾 one.

April 3rd, 2019 at 9:21 am
Again, maybe if he displayed some of the technical skills our new taskmaster Shaq Barret is displaying in the link I sent above☝🏾,maybe I wouldn’t be so down on these newbs. But I don’t see it. So to me to hell wit’em. We need dogs not frauds that look in appearance like Semeon Rice but don’t have his actual skill set.
April 3rd, 2019 at 9:22 am
sweat played in the toughest conference in CFB and had back to back double digit sacks…..
#REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!
April 3rd, 2019 at 9:29 am
What years??? And that hardest conference you mention is your opinion. I posted a link it clearly shows what he did and against who. Cupcakes he look a little like something, better teams a complete no show.
April 3rd, 2019 at 9:31 am
That whole best conference game thing is debatable now homie. You see Clemson giving Alabama everything they @$$ can handle. And we all know Bama the only thing really been worth mentioning out of sec as of late. And a ACC giant spank they @$$.
April 3rd, 2019 at 9:35 am
I thought you changed your name to NOSJOS
April 3rd, 2019 at 9:40 am
If my memory serves me correctly was it not 2016 the ACC faced the sec str8 up in four bowl games and whip the sec in all four games right..
April 3rd, 2019 at 9:41 am
OUR LUCK is THIS….
If we DO take him……. he is Da’Quan Bowers
if we do NOT……… he is Julius Peppers.

And again in the bowl game that anyone really cares about you know the National Championship what happened bro??? As for y’all win against my Noles last year to that I’ll say took y’all long enough. D$&@ near decade. We’ll see what’s good next tho,I kinda keep my on my rivals and y’all got a few roster issues that require a little attention.
April 3rd, 2019 at 10:50 am
But that’s off subject Montez sweat and RaShaan Gary ain’t no different. Y’all need to pay closer attention to our new acquisition Shaq Barret the boy nasty. He just needed to somewhere where he could start.
April 3rd, 2019 at 12:11 pm
3.5 sacks? That sounds strangely familiar to another former 1st round DE the Bucs drafted… Adrian Clayborn had exactly 3.5 sacks his senior year of Iowa… ran a very slow 4.8 40 a the Combine and put up a paltry 16 reps of 225 on the bench… this guy, couldn’t perform on the field OR in testing and yet we still took him with our 1st round pick despite Cam Jordan (who blew up the Senior Bowl that Clayborn skipped) and tested quite a bit better at the Combine.
Moral to the story is… stay away from a guy with 3.5 sacks at where we are picking. #5 overall is way too early to be gambling on guys with physical talent but have never produced. I would take Gary over Clayborn where we chose Adrian all day and everyday but not at #5…. not with either Allen or Sweat sure to be available.

No to Gary!
NOSBOS- The ACC will be returning to its rightful owners next year….Virginia Tech! Go Hokies!
April 3rd, 2019 at 10:49 pm
Joe we get it.. you didn’t watch any Michigan games this year and going strictly by numbers. If you did watch any or did ANY kind of research you would know he’s been injured rushed to get back unlike Nick Bosa and played hurt. He also wasn’t the rush end in Don Browns defense that would be Chase. He was designated to stop the run and disrupt the pocket. If he got to the QB it was all gravy. Quit bashing the kid and move along
