Bruce Arians Talks “Fear”
April 2nd, 2019In NFL circles, there is a real and positive buzz about the Buccaneers — believe it or not.
Joe believes it, even in the season of smoke, because Joe looked the man saying it in the eye when he shared the info.
JoeBucsFan.com: Coach, from the Combine and here [at the NFL Owners Meetings in Phoenix], talking to all the other coaches that you’ve been mingling with, what’s the biggest thing you’re hearing about your team? What are they saying about your roster?
Bucco Bruce Arians: How much they fear the receiving corps and the quarterback. They know the talent on the defense and the speed in that secondary as as group. I think what we’re going to do with them is going to be more advantageous to them,” Arians said. “Get up. I got you. Beat my ass. We’re not sitting back read-and-reacting, schemes and stuff. We’ll have some of it, but we gotta get in your face and play man-to-man and get after you. I think it lets their personality come out more.
Arians went on to add he heard a lot of “Oooh, you got Perriman” from his peers, referring to the Bucs’ new speedster wide receiver who caught 16 balls with the Browns last year for more than 20 yards per reception.
Joe’s going to resist being a cynical wiseguy here and celebrate the reality that the Bucs can move the ball and put up points. If they can do the latter just a little better than last year, they’ll be on their way to a bounceback season.
As Joe wrote previously, through the last eight NFL seasons, teams averaged 27 or more points per game 37 times. And only five of those teams missed the playoffs. The Bucs scored 24 points per game in 2018.

I still do not get why statistically the Buc’s OL was top 15 in pass blocking and 31st in run blocking? Can that not be fixed.
I still do not get why JW was a top 10 QB when throwing under pressure and in the 30’s when he had plenty of time. Can that not be fixed.
I think the answer to both of those questions and BA is perhaps the guy who can do it. He has already brought in a tight staff that know each other and BA and should hit the ground running.
Get the OL to play as well run blocking as pass blocking…get JW to play as well with a clean pocket…and we’re cooking with gas.

Think the simple fact that the change to a more aggressive scheme will have an impact on the players mindset on D and should produce an improved showing this year.

Always taking shots, and the strong philosophy of “going downfield”….in a year when BA is asking Jameis to cut down on turnovers, is not only oxymoronic, but is counter-productive to the greater good in many circles…of building confidence in Jameis in his option year, and thus…the interim greater good of the current Buccaneers. Cause if we need to change in 2020 at QB without signing Winston to a long second contract, then the setback will at least be 3-4 years for any next QB to get rolling.
A little less blowhard, little more work. And less proclamations about theoretical future success. Actions.

BA the reason I renewed my tickets this year.

The key is defense. The offense is good enough, and with new coaching and game planning, they will be much more unpredictable. They may even get the run game going. So the key remains with the defense, and I can’t help but believe with the new coaching and attitude adjustment discussed above, the team could indeed have a really good season.

“BA knows he has to outscore teams to win. We need to score first and the petal to the metal
THIS DEFENSE IS GOING TO SUK
Need the opposing team to chase and be 1 dimensional
We should be scoring easily avg over 30 pts per game
OJ is going to break TE stat records
BUT WE NEED A DUET THREAT PASS CATCHING RUNNINGBACK”

PSLB…..The offense has the talent to be good. But they are very inconsistent.
At one point last year’s they went a long stetch of games where they couldn’t score points for the whole first half.
That’s not playing good offense. There does need to be improvement but at least we know they are capable………….Defense is another issue. Let’s dump Gerald start a new direction with this 3-4. This is the year that starts a new era.

Coaches around the league knew that if this team got the right coaching it would be something to be feared. Some fans knew it as well.

@PSLBob
“The key is defense.”
Agreed. Trade back and stack the defense rounds 1-3 except for Lindstrom in the second.

“Season of smoke”? It’s all nothing but TALK at this point. And TALK is cheap. Let’s see how it all goes when the season starts and the resultant 53-man roster has to put on their ‘big boy pants’ and get down to their REAL job.

Vegas has them winning 5? Or 6?
April 2nd, 2019 at 6:44 pm
If this team can field a defense tgat isnt HISTORICALLY embarrassing they are money. Improving special team and redzone on top of that spells SUPERBOWL BABY!!!!
April 2nd, 2019 at 6:46 pm
What I fear is that Bobo is our #3 WR right now.
I like Bobo, I think he’s like 98% the WR that Hump is, but I also didn’t want Hump as our #3 WR. Saying a guy that got cut from the Redskins last year (by far the weakest group of WRs in the NFL) is good enough to be our #3 – and we’re counting on that – is very risky. Anywho I hope Perriman makes the Bucs look smart, but you shouldn’t use hope when creating your depth chart.

Problem with the Bucs offense is we moved the ball between the 20’s but the red zone is a different ball game. You have to have bigger balls than your opponent and dominate your way to the end zone. No more trick plays or double reverses you have to man handle the guy on the other side of the ball. For the past 10 years we’ve been short on man handlers and big on finesse/beta blockers.
April 2nd, 2019 at 6:50 pm
That goes double for the defense
April 2nd, 2019 at 7:18 pm
Please just give the fans 11players on either side of the ball the other team fears to face! For the last 10 years no NFL team has feared any part of the Buccaneers!

Stpete—Pressure is often generated by teams blitzing and playing man to man. Less pressure is probably related to teams dropping back in zone, when you place 8 men in coverage, it’s harder to find a receiver, and it gets harder the longer the distance for a first down.
April 2nd, 2019 at 9:42 pm
See y’all talk down on him, unappreciative mutha🤬. But them suits realize Jameis now coupled with BA is a major problem. But go head keep talking weak s$&@ while you can. Season right round the corner. We gone see what’s good here shortly.

When you have a coach who throws a challenge flag and admits he knew he didn’t have any timeouts left…….you know you have a problem…..that problem has been solved.
April 2nd, 2019 at 11:14 pm
Rod,
Perriman was with the browns. The addition of OBJ made him less valuable in terms of snap count and the team and He agreed to part ways. Evans -Godwin-Perriman. Then Wilson and Watson. Wilson is at best #4. Or #2 by position, slot. Which is something likely to change if Godwin is the type of players BA is seeking at slot, Watson may find himself in the 2 spot at slot.

I’m just hazarding a guess, but I would imagine less QB pressure can also mean more secondary coverage because there are more players available to the secondary.

We will see a lot of blitzing from our defense…which will leave us vulnerable in the secondary.
April 3rd, 2019 at 3:34 pm
A lot of the same crap. Same as Walk Softly etc… Just shut up and show us on the field. We have heard this garbage from every coach after Gruden left.
