Duties explained.
Joe has been asked this question before and until Bucco Bruce Arians addressed it, Joe was just as confused as any Bucs fan was.
The Bucs have an offensive coordinator who also has the title of “run game coordinator.” That would be Harold Goodwin, whose background is offensive line coaching. And of course, the Bucs have an offensive line coach, Joe Gilbert.
So what’s the difference and what the hell is a run game coordinator? Arians tried to clear the fog a little when he spoke at the coaches breakfast at the NFL owners meetings earlier this week.
“They are both line coaches,” Arians said. “Harold is assistant head coach/ run game coordinator. He knows this offense — we’ve been together 16 years. He and Joe worked together in Indy.
“So one will take the tackles and the other will take the centers and guards and they will just coach the crap out of them. But they are always together, tied at the hip as far as what they are saying and they both believe in exactly what the other does.”
Arians added that when the Bucs are using two different fields during training camp, Goodwin will be coaching the offensive line on one field and Gilbert will be coaching the offensive line on the other field.
Their messages, Arians noted, will be the same, in unison.

Of all the “new” Arians brings to One Buc Palace, the concept of two fields with every player getting more reps is the most brilliant I’ve heard.
This means the PS will be formed to have two complete O & D teams so two practices can happen simultaneously.
My experience was on teams with much smaller rosters than today’s NFL. In the WFL we had 35 man rosters, so everybody participated in every practice. The NFL has 53 man roster, plus 10 on the PS. Huge difference.
I will admit I was appalled watching Hard Knocks with all the standing around of players doing not a frickin’ thing but playing around and cutting up.
I suspect Arians puts an end to that nonsense.

BA has such a detailed plan, there is no way something falls through the cracks.
It’s pretty obvious to me, if your game plan is limited to a Passing Attack being your bread and butter, then your practice time is going to be going of the details of blocking longer etc.
It showed, because our Run Blocking was terrible.
You don’t have to block longer for a run game.
If you keep the DL centered up, they just dislodge and make the tackle.
Sometimes letting them go to one side is the plan. Create holes.
Gonna be a Night and Day difference with the same players.

@813bucboi … “problem has been coaching&scheme not talent&players.” Repeat the same thing often enough bucboi and you’ll start to believe it. Our new coaches can coach the daylights out of Benenoch, but guess what … nah, too easy; I’ll let YOU finish that statement. Regardless of what some say, the talent level on NFL teams is NOT equal. Some teams do a better job of drafting … some (like Joe Thomas?) become the ‘cream of the crop’ even on crappy teams.
Certainly some teams do a better job of developing the players who they draft, and some do a better job of utilizing those players on the field. But TALENT MATTERS. Bucs have some excellent talent in quite a few positions, but it’s not team-wide. Too many weaknesses on offense, defense and special teams that other teams can capitalize on. it becomes like the lion pride hunting the slowest gazelle in the herd. Bucs have too many slow gazelles.

You know Joe lasts night on NFL network Bucky and Maurice gave they’re prediction for our defense in the upcoming draft. Bucky went with obvious smart choice of Devin White,Maurice went with Nassir Aderly (I wish we had a shot him,fits the new safety/cb hybrid mold to a T). On offense tho Maurice thru out the name Rodney Anderson RB OU. 6’1 220lbs. That’s David Johnson territory. Said him in the 3rd for us.

Defense Rules exactly, some GMs just are incompetent when it comes to eyeing talent. Every single NFL coach today breaks down everything similar to what arians is doing, there is only one exception and that is the Patriots. They have been a model of consistency in the type of players belichek wants to run his scheme on off & defense and in the modern NFL there are supposed to be highs and lows of seasons, the patriots are not supposed to win at that level today and conversely the bucs are not supposed to suck this long in the NFL today.

Maurice Jones-Drew words not mines “if they add a guy like Rodney Anderson this offense will be nasty”. Just find it funny people on the outside clearly see it especially with a certified HC under the headset now. But people here ask questions like “I seriously wanna know what Bruce Arians thinks about this roster” really??? He’s rubbing his hands everyday in anticipation over this roster. Tell y’all a quick story. Last weekend I’m facing timing with my brother-in-law who lives in south click(panthers fan). Says to me “a man what ya Bucs gone do next season” I say well we hired Bruce Arians so all I know is we ain’t gone be nobodies push over anymore. He responded 😳”y’all hired Bruce Arians??? Yea yea yea y’all gone be pretty good then”.

BA said during that breakfast interview with Joe and co. He knows a lot of fans are on the fence about next season,in his mind I’m sure he was thinking “y’all use to losing”. But stated we’re gonna win and we’re gonna win now😠. Maybe y’all ain’t quite get it when he said this is not a rebuild,I don’t rebuild I reload mutha🤬.

regardless of what some say?….you mean like what dirk said while he was here…or tony when he visited….or other football professionals stating that this team has enough talent to make the playoffs….lol….
you want me to believe you, a person who is not associated with professional football vs folks that are….lol…OK….you know more than dirk, a HOF coach and BA…..
regardless of what you say, their is evidence evey sunday that the talent level in the NFL is not that far off from team to team…..thats why we have the phrase, “on any given sunday”……what separates lousy teams, from average teams, from good teams, from great teams is the coaching…..
can a coach get a player from average to good or good to great in a year or 2….
you named benenoch as an example….so what if BA and the oline coaches get him to play up to his potential and he ends up starting at RT and becomes productive…..would it mean benenoch got bit by the talent bug over night?…..or would it mean the coaches did their job and developed him?…..if that were to happen, did licht screw up by drafting him or did the previous coaches not develop this kid properly?
i’ll let you answer that…..
take trenton brown for example…..drafted by the 9ers in the 7th round, sat a year and then played RT…..got traded to the PATS where they coached him up and put him in position to succeed….now he’s getting paid…..did he all of a sudden get bit by the talent bug or did the PATS coach him up?….
bradely mcdougdal is in the same boat…..wasnt coached/developed properly, got with better coaching which allowed them to walk away from a future HOFer along with mcdougal getting paid…..
sweezy is another example….he left good coaching for lousy coaching and his play suffered…..went back to good coaching and made the PB…..
you can win with a bunch of talented players in college just ask bama and saban…..but when the talent is about equal the difference maker is coaching…..again, just ask bama about clemson….bama had better/more talent, but sweeny out-coached saban……LSU always has a top 5 recruiting class but they always get out coached by saban….the talent is about equal….
rams had more talent than the PATS but mcvay was out coached…..
hell we had more talent than the redskins and couldnt score…..dirk was out coached…..
the slowest gazelle in the herd were the coaches, dirk and smitty…..now that they have been eaten alive, its time for the new alpha male to lead the herd….the new alpha has studied what went wrong and his conclusion has been poor coaching and lack of development not talent and players……
BA has mentioned this many times and its backed up by a “major turnover” that we have yet to see and wont see….

I have to be honest!!!!!! I have never been, more excited for a 6-10 season by the Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait for the schedule can come out, so I can predict when the sheep will realize that the biscuit is stale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not sure bowles is this big savior everyone hoping he is especially with the personnel on defense currently, the jets had better players than the bucs and had as bad a defense as the bucs the past 2 years, but like realist said this is going to be fun #firelicht

Dusty, I’m not sure why you and others are down on Bowles after last seasons jets defense. You realize he wasnt the defensive coordinator right? Some coaches are better coordinators than head coaches. Jim Schwartz ring a bell? How about Wade Philips?

AlanBucsFan … “McVay wasn’t outcoached, Goff had a terrible game.” Bucboi won’t buy that Alan, because to him Goff is just as talented as Brady. What bucboi can’t see is that it’s not one or the other (coaching vs talent) that makes a winning team. IT’S BOTH.
And bucboi, obviously our definitions of a major turnover differ. Gone from last year’s team are: (1) Alexander; (2) Humphries; (3) Fitzpatrick; (4) Taylor; (5) Curry; (6) Adams; (7) Shaw; (8) Grimes; (9) Unrein; (10) Anger; (11) Conte; (12) Rodgers; (13) Sanborn; (14) Lynch; (15) Elliot; (16) Wester; (17) Cross; (18) Nelson. So that’s over one-third of last year’s team… And that’s with quite awhile still to go in free agency and before the draft & preseason cuts. Nah, no major turnover there.
Hang in there Sunshine, because before Game 1 this year there’ll be a number of others destined to ‘Hit the road Jack’. But whatever you do, DON’T take my word for it. After all, I’m not an NFL coach so I haven’t learned yet how to speak ‘coach-speak’ for those who believe everything that’s flashed in front of them. But obviously you have.

We’ll miss Elliot, according to pff he had better coverage grade than Donte Jackson from Carolina. Cross is a big loss too, the ultimate role player with gorilla glue for hands and Adams although he had 3-4 picks in half a season we let him go which is a typical Bucs move. Hopefully some of these 3 are re-signed before the regular season begins. I’d take lynch back too for ST.

those are all players that we knew would be gone….lol….kwon, hump, conte, grimes, fitz……we knew werent coming back…..thats no surprise…
and the other half of those players never played or made an impact….c’mon man…cross…nelson….wester…shaw….urein…sanborn…..they never made an impact…..
and you never answed the question….if benenoch improves his play, starts and is productive, did he magically gain talent or did the coaches coach him up?…..

I think the more coaches you have the better. As long as they work in unison and the teaching is the same then the small details won’t be over looked so frequently. Game preparations is more fluid, and players are more apt to pay attention. More roosters in the hen house so to speak.

Get this dude some fierey coaching and will make all yall eat your words. Guaranteed Bruce has watched the film and saw what this guy can do down field……They are gonna roll that big mother out next year defenders will be flattened.
Get Jensen out there too. Saw him get down field way too many times last year only to have nobody to hit because the front line didn’t do their job and the whistle blew.

Third down, they had their designers and things like that. They did a great job. It was a great game plan. There is no other way to say it, but I got out-coached.”
McVay also took the blame for the struggles of Goff, who completed 19 of 38 passes for 229 yards and one interception.

there you have it!!!!!!…..it came out of his mouth twice!!!!!…mcvay was outcoached in the SB and his QB struggled because he(mcvay) was getting outcoached by BB…..not because goff lacks talent….the kid was the #1 overall pick…..he looked like a bust under poor coaching….looked like a #1 overall pick with good coaching….
goff had a poor game because his coaches didnt gameplan properly….thats not to say mcvay is a bad coach, he simply got outcoached on 1 sunday…..

813bucboi … What part of “It’s BOTH … coaching AND talent … that makes a winning team” is so difficult to comprehend? You keep saying the same thing over and over and over and … aw heck, you can just keep going with that & same me some keystrokes.
You apparently believe EVERYTHING every coach says in the media. Newsflash: They lie. It’s called coach-speak. Virtually ALL coaches take the blame for losing rather than call out under-performing players … in public. In private … different story.
And regarding “goff had a poor game because his coaches didnt gameplan properly” have another newsflash: McVay didn’t throw the football; Goff did. Go back and look at some of those throws he made (Corrrection: throws that he DIDN’T MAKE). Goff was the slowest gazelle, not McVay. Goff’s young & most likely has a promising career ahead of him. But obviously Brady’s experience carried the day, and Goff wasn’t ready for the big dance, YET.
And you’re waffling on the ‘major turnover’. Thus far 18 players form last year are gone … for WHATEVER reason. You know as well as I do that number will INCREASE before Game 1, by another 6-8 players as a minimum (Hint: the draft is coming). That’s a turnover of almost HALF last year’s team. Caveat any way you like (as players “we knew werent coming back…..thats no surprise” in your case) but guess what … IT’S A MAJOR TURNOVER IN PERSONNEL. In the end, BA & his staff will only be working with HALF of last year’s team.
And BTW, if Benenoch magically turns All-Pro, I’ll be the first to admit that coaching made a huge difference … in his case. I wasn’t a big fan of George Warhop as our OLine coach, but danged, Benenoch got rag-dolled so many times last year folks started calling him Raggedy Andy. BTW, IF he plays this year, I suspect it’ll be at Tackle, not Guard.

anything to be different …Smith was a disappointment last season. On run plays to the left, he more times than not, would not engage in blocks. He literally tried to avoid contact apparently saving himself from possible injury in a contract year. Hopefully this staff will call him out on it this season and get him to contribute 100% on all run plays.

Goff missed when he was late to a wide open receiver ,
The interception he threw late in the 4th qtr was a bad read- he had 3 receivers on the other side with no safety in the middle
To be fair, the pass he threw before that play should’ve been a td but Patriots got away with interference ( didn’t hear McVay crying about it , Sean Payton)
