“Emblematic And Symbolic”

Proven monster underscores draft depth

About that edge rusher the Bucs might be able to draft after selecting (gasp!) a very special linebacker at No. 5 overall.

If that Round 1 scenario actually played out, the Bucs still might be able to get their hands on a heck of a defensive end prospect.

FOX game analyst Charles Davis, the former NFL Network draft guru and a Tennessee Volunteer during his playing days, emphasized today that the crop of pass-rush talent is just that deep. And he referenced Louisiana Tech’s Jaylon Ferguson as a great example.

Ferguson posted monster numbers in 2018 — and had a strong Pro Day this week after the NFL shut him out of the scouting combine because he had an assault charge when he was 18. Checking in at 6-5, 271 pounds — 10 pounds heavier than his senior season playing weight, per The News Star, Ferguson had 17 1/2 sacks and 26 total tackles-for-loss last year and ran a 4.75 40-yard dash at his Pro Day with a 32-inch vertical jump.

He’s “emblematic and symbolic” of the kind of pass rusher that will fall in the draft next month when compared to where he might be found in other years, Davis told WDAE-AM 620.

Davis said Ferguson’s film is very special, even if the overall workout numbers and his body aren’t terribly impressive and he’s not among the elite prospects of 2019..

Ferguson is widely projected as an early second-round pick or a very late first-rounder. The Bucs own the 39th overall pick, the seventh selection in Round 2.

I don’t know who this special LB is, but can you let me know? Hope it isn’t the arm tackling White.

  2. Ateonetree Says:

    Chase winovich joe!! That’s who

  3. 813bucboi Says:

jachi polite will be in the second round too….him or ferguson would be nice….

this is why you take Ed Oliver in the 1st round…..DE 2nd round….OL 3rd round….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  4. westernbuc Says:

Great year for defensive line, bad year for linebackers. Nothing wrong with trading down and grabbing a top LB

  5. Stanglassman Says:

Someone on here was suggesting the Bucs could just pick Jeffrey Simmons in the 2nd or 3rd round. Simmons won’t last to the 2nd but this is a Good example of a quality DE the Bucs could fallback on when OL Linstrum (looking more likely) is gone before their 2nd pick.

  6. Joeypoppems Says:

I know combine and pro day numbers arent everything, but Ferguson’s pro day numbers are scary bad. Took him 7 tries to record one of the slowest 3 cone times ever lol.

  7. Not there yet Says:

Finally someone talking sense. If they draft white instead of a pass rusher that will be fine but there’s more than two linebackers that would be instant starters for us

  8. Bucsdelight Says:

If we trade back and take White fine, but he isn’t top 5.

  9. Joeypoppems Says:

But yes I agree with the point you are making Joe. The depth of the DL class is why im cool with getting Devin White at 5.

The DL prospects on Day 2 will be better than the LB prospects.

  10. catcard202 Says:

Ferguson is a true grinder DE…a good 4-3 DEF fit….But doesn’t have the hips to be an effective 3-4 Edge OLB – with coverage duties.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

I would love to see us draft 2 guys for the front 7.

Sounds like too many of y’all too hung up on positions. The strict goal needs to be drafting a Pro Bowl/All Pro Caliber player at 5. The position(excluding QB) is barely a factor.

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

    813

The value certainly seems to be lining up that way. I keep flip flopping on who I want lol. I think I’m back to the top 3 and Ed Oliver being my #4.

R2/R3 seems to have good depth for DE and OG.

The draft lines up well with our needs in the trenches so Licht can go a lot of ways without f*cking it up too hardcore

  13. Jamaal Stanley Says:

Trying to think of the football player (defensive) that made a career in the league not using his arms🤔. Give me a minute.

  14. JimmyJack Says:

The Bucs just need a dominating player to add to the defense. We currently have none

If they think White will be a dominating player and take Sweat because of position they have just ruined their choice. And vise versa.

  15. Jamaal Stanley Says:

And good job Joe,Allen ain’t the only outside rusher in this draft. But that arm tackling White is the only 4.42 Butkus winner in this mutha..

  16. #1bucfan Says:

@813 what about the gaping whole we have now in the middle of the field with Kwon gone lol that rhymes but with all these RBs catching passes out of the back field now we need someone who can man the middle sideline to sideline I feel like white is our guy but I also know that we need our Dline help for now an future your thoughts ?

  17. DONUTS Says:

The thing that is puzzling to me is that CJ Anderson is not a Buc. The Bucs are probably the most needy team at RB and CJ is a good teammate and durable. I guess Arians has forgotten how valuable a 3 down RB is to a struggling QB.

  18. TB22 Says:

There is no LB in this draft worthy of a top 10 pick.

If the Bucs reach for White at #5 they are stupid and I’m done with their idiocy.

I’m shocked that the GM is still around to bungle yet another draft.

The Glazers needed to clean house after 2018 and instead just swept some dirt under the rug. Brilliant approach!

  19. Jamaal Stanley Says:

Man please save that worthy s@&$ for yo mama homeboy. What nfl you scouting for. Let me guess. None!!! As for Ferguson hell, there’s more physicality to his game than Allen. Allen comes free an awful lot on his videos. Can’t rely solely on that and speed at the next level.

  20. Buccaneerscotty Says:

White at #5 !!!!! Go Bucs the Bucs and nobody else cares what anyone thinks they will pic White and he will be Great so get over it! You can pick a rb,wr,lb,ol, G, or c at #5 as long as they are great who cares when or where you pick them? I rather have the best lb over 3rd best end ! And if the cardinals pick a Qb and Gruden picks a Qb then you have a chance at someone else if not it’s white and I like it! Go Bucs!!!

  21. BuccOff Says:

Assuming we don’t trade down from #5….which if we don’t get Quinnen, WE BETTER FREAKIN’ TRADE DOWN….then our scheduled round 2 pick should go to the best quality starting RG, not a schmo from Louisiana Tech. Maybe in the 4th round. However if we do trade down from #5 to say #12 or #13, then take Devin White THERE, pick up extra picks…..then there’s no longer a point to this discussion, because all the values and priorities CHANGE at THAT point 🙂

  22. ManzielMadness Says:

Wouldn’t mind him. I remember last year when OT Orlando Brown had one of the worst combine performances I’ve ever seen… worked out pretty well for the Ravens. Then you have work out warriors like Obi Melifonwu who don’t do sh!t in the NFL.

  23. Jamaal Stanley Says:

So let me get this str8,according to jbf-land the positions worthy of being drafted in the top is QB and standout O and Line??? Really🤨.

  24. Jamaal Stanley Says:

    And Dline

  25. Jamaal Stanley Says:

    Again,Really

  26. MadMax Says:

After drafting White, Sweat will probably be there in the 20’s…and if he does we better trade up for him!

Or if we dont trade up, and bradburry and Lindstrom are gone, work on a trade down and grab Chase Winovich late 2nd….then a Guard/RB/CB

  27. rrsrq Says:

If they trade back and get another 2nd, I’m reading that Devin Bush will not be that much of a drop off from White. So you take Bush and then get your hands on Lindstrom first (if available and then maybe package a 3rd or 4th (or wait it out) and go after this guy Ferguson or Joe Jackson with the other 2nd pick. But I do believe we need a special MLB and a special RG on a rookie contract in the draft. Make it happen Licht, of course all this if Q or Allen, Sweat who I’m still not sure of is off the board. Not expecting Bosa to be there, especially not past the Raiders

  28. What the buc Says:

I’ve been saying this all week. If Ferguson is there in the 2nd we should take him regardless of who we pick in the 1st. If we land a pass rusher in round 1, then we double up. Joe may die and go to heaven. 2 fresh young OLBs to go with Nassib and JPP. I’ll take it. Draft a guard in the 3rd.

  29. What the buc Says:

BuccOff, A schmo from Lousiana Tech? What’s that even mean? You mean the guy who lead the NCAA in sacks and TFLs? LT is still a D1 school. In case you forgot Mack came out of Buffalo with a similar resume. Marcus Davenport came out of UTSA. You can make your point without trashing someone you don’t know anything about

  30. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Glad to see Chase Winovich get some LUV on this board.

Yo MadMax, if you’ve got the time – Grab a beer, an get a bar of this Iowa vs Mississippi St. (Outback Bowl) game.

I know you’re not a fan – so you’ll give some solid me feedback on Jeffery Simmons performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OANxRSCJxoA
