Cairo Santos Returns
March 12th, 2019The Bucs new kicker is the old kicker.
And that is Cairo Santos.
Per Ben Levine of ProFootballRumors.com, Santos and the Bucs reached an agreement where Santos will continue to miss kick field goals for the Bucs, a franchise simply cursed by place kickers for much of the post-Chucky era.
Santos was No. 36 in the NFL last year for field goal percentage on made field goals. From 20-39 yards, Santos was perfect as he was on extra-points. From 40- to 50-yards-and-over, Santos struggled making only half his attempts.

The new punter handled kick-off duties for the 49ers, which allows Santos to simply miss from 40+ and not screw up kick offs too.

“Miss kick “ field goals.
👀
Good one joes. And so true.
A little surprised by this one when Matt Bryant was interested and the new punter we just signed does kick offs.

Meh. Hopefully he has competition and there isn’t much for guarantees in this deal.

I like the punter and santos addition. Heck we can’t be worst than before so just looking to improve with this two. It’s a clean slate for both. 👍🏼

Before everyone appoints him the kicker, what is his actual deal? Is he “the” kicker or just “a” kicker?
Anyways I’m fine with going with him. He was excellent in KC a couple of years ago, in bad weather, was clutch. Then he got hurt and bounced around a little.
I’m guessing Licht isn’t dumb enough to sign another kicker and say that is their guy 100%, I can’t believe he’d do that yet again, so I assume he’s just got a deal to compete for the job. Once we know the numbers, we’ll know.

BTW, on a different note, I’m still seeing the D-Jax trade on other sites as the Bucs getting a 6th and a 7th, not giving up a 7th. Does anyone actually know the terms of the deal or do we have to wait until it’s official to know the terms?

Rod we gave Jackson and a 7th round pick for the eagles 6th round pick that is the trade. It was first reported as you are seeing so you are looking at articles that are wrong and were the first reporting. We don’t have to wait until it is signed that is the deal. We move from the first pick in the 7th round since we had the cardinals 7th round pick in exchange for are 6th for Arians. And we get the eagles 6th round 193 overall we moved up about 20 spots. The difference between a guy making the first cuts and the second cuts.

LOL this team, I swear…

Jeffbuc – No, what I’m saying is there are NEW stories still saying the Bucs got a 6th and 7th, and from normally reputable places, I know the early reports said it, then we had the second wave of stories that were different, and now in a 3rd wave of stories I’m seeing them going back to the original reporting.
I guess we’ll know for sure when the trades are officially announced.

I think Santos’s problem and some other PKs (not all) on this team might have been……..
An ANGER issue.
We’ll see.

I’m still shaking my head on most of the Bucs “moves” this offseason. K is another position they could have upgraded with. Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski is available and the Bucs didn’t even try to sign him apparently. I feel sorry for the poor sales people trying to convince Season Ticket holders to renew.

Camp competition and smoke screen. Bucs are taking Oklahoma, LSU or Georgia kicker at bottom of draft. This discourages another kicker hungry team from jockeying above the Bucs in a later round (other team is now more likely to wait and see if a kicker drops to them than trade above the Bucs). Similarly, I suspect the 49ers trade for Dee Ford was in anticipation of trading out of their first round pick. They need edge rusher and can now (in theory) trade out of their 2nd overall pick with less second guessing about passing on Bosa/Allen/Gary/Sweat.

Frye from the Orlando Apollos is 11-11 on field goals.
He is an unknown quantity on kick offs.
New punter can kick off.

Still looking for positives.
And by the way…don’t blame Jason Licht for any bad signings. It was made clear that Rock Star Bruce Arians has full control.

Santos averaged .4 Field Goal misses per game last year. He only played 9 games, s over a spread of 16 games, that means we can look forward to him missing…6.4 Field Goals this year!
But I have a theory. I am hoping it is a one-year-deal…and they are bringing back Matt Bryant, who only missed one field goal last year, but also struggled with injuries.
Is it possible they intend to keep 2 kickers this year? Could Santos be the backup kicker?

Don’t know what he signed for but Bryant & Gostkowski was available. Just saying.
March 13th, 2019 at 12:16 pm
For what it’s worth Gramatica was lobbing for him.
March 13th, 2019 at 10:39 pm
How do you not bring Bryant in? This team is the worst.
