Humphries Cashes In Big With Tennessee

March 11th, 2019

Loaded

There’s no big surprise here with Adam Humphries leaving, as Joe detailed yesterday morning. But it is eye-opening that it appears Humphries scored about $9 million per season from the Tennessee Titans.

That’s a lot of cheese for a slot receiver, but that, along with safety, is this year’s hot position in free agency. Joe is eager to see the specifics of Humphries’ deal.

Regardless, life is damn good for Humphries, who now lands on a stable team that’s coming off back-to-back winning seasons. He also has a quarterback who isn’t big on the deep ball. Plus, Humphries, who is from South Carolina and does some charity work there, gets to be close to home in a state with no income tax.

Not bad for a Bucs tryout player who was cut in September 2015 before getting re-signed.

Humphries will be missed, but he should be replaceable.

LOLOLOL this is such a fun day of watching the Bucs instantly get worse.
TEAM GLAZER is a joke, worst owners and ran franchise in professional sports.

  2. MadMax Says:

Good luck Hump!!! Got that $$$, glad you chased it and wish we couldve kept you but have to spend big $$ elsewhere.

  3. Bird Says:

Devin funchess just got 1 year 13 mil from colts.

I mean there is stupid money being thrown around. That guy is not worth half that

  4. Rod Munch Says:

But wait, everyone said since he was white he’d sign with the Patriots. I mean he’s soooo white. Anywho the Pats aren’t paying a guy like Hump $9m… although since Funchess is rumored to have gotten $13m, that makes Hump seem like a huge bargain.

Anywho he’ll probably get like 55 receptions for 515 yards next year and 3 TDs, and with Mariota throwing to him those will be HOF numbers. LOL!

  5. Mike Says:

I think this a shame and another mistake in priorities by Licht

Good luck to Hump! He deserves the cash.

  6. Bird Says:

    Joe

You said hump would never get 10. 9 is kinda 10. Just saying.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

These kneejerk reaction are better then last year.

  8. JA Says:

Good for him. Glad to see one of our players paid twice his value (two with Kwon) instead of a player being overpaid by the Bucs. Nice change!
BTW— all those that claim “fake news,” stop it!
There is no such thing. Let’s not rewrite history. When something is untruthful it is a LIE!
    Nothing more—nothing less.

  9. LJS4th Says:

Another good player leaves the Bucs!! But no worry, we kept the ones who can’t play!!! You will be missed Hump especially when we can’t make a first down!!!

  10. DB55 Says:

And there I thought we got better today. Hump is no loss at all. Teflon Keon is no loss either. Now if we could get rid of McIceCream were in business.

Funchess is like 18 billion times better than hump. Hump can be replaced by Kenny bell. 😂

  11. bucsince79 aka Bumaneer Says:

Idiots!!! e are loaded at receivers…. Lukewarm Buc Fans that dont know sh*t

  12. Bird Says:

Devin funchess gets 1 year 13 mil from colts. 😂💩

Crazy frenzy of stupid money being thrown around.

  13. AleteredEgo Says:

Watch what he can do with a QB that can hit him in stride instead of making a stat sheet catch squatting down in a hole in the defense

  14. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Good for him and good for us. We finally will get comp. picks.

This is a strange year with all this money being paid to good but not great players. As much as I want change here, I like the Bucs playing it cool and not being dumb with money this year.

  15. joestang Says:

glad to see good players moving on from this team, we continue to be a farm system for other teams.

  16. Not there yet Says:

Not sure how the glazers are responsible for the team being short on cash unless your blaming them for keeping licht but this issue didn’t just happen overnight, it’s been in the making since licht decided to start resigning the lovable losers on his historic offense

  17. DooshLaRue Says:

    Good for Hump!
We’ll be fine with our WR and TE Corp. I think Bruce will play to JW strengths/weaknesses and that’s a good thing IMO.
Now let’s start filling the holes.

    Giggitty.

LOLLOLOLOLOLOL!!! Mariota is a horrible QB who couldn’t hit a guy wide open if they were standing 3 feet away from them. The Winston Derangement Syndrome is a real thing.

  19. Bird Says:

I think Brate stays now with DJax and hump gone.

  20. Don_RyJo Says:

I wish nothing but the best for Rudy! Well…I’m a little disappointed he won’t be sticking in Tampa, so just out of principle I hope he stubs his big toe somethin’ fierce as he is packing his things for the move to Tennessee. Nothing career-ending, of course, but he has to suffer at least a LITTLE before he abandons us for the almighty dollar.

  21. Season Is Over Says:

    Weapons for Winston.

  22. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Rod I was thinking the same thing. Does aletered ego not know who their QB is?

  23. Buc believer Says:

Everyone who says “good for this guy or good for that guy I hope thetydo well with their new team” I say BULLSPIT!!! I hope they suck ASS and their crappy new team sucks ASS too!! The ONLY steam I want to do well is my Bucs! And the ONLY players I want to do well are Buc players! Once they leave I hope they SUCK!!

  24. Jeff Says:

He got the money, but who is going to throw the ball to him? Marcus Mariota? Lol! Looking at a $9MM per receiver with 500 yards receiving. Smart non sign by the Bucs.

  25. Don_RyJo Says:

    @Buc believer

Irrational anger AND a generous amount of spite. Yup – you’re a lifelong Bucs fan, alright!

  26. Jean Lafitte Says:

It’s gonna be up to Godwin and Howard to keep Evans relatively clean this season or Evans will suffer a hit to his numbers this year. If he is doubled 80% of the time it will impact his amount of targets and receptions. I sure hope Howard, and Godwin stay healthy this season. If Evans is doubled more this season and Jameis begins to force it to him you can expect his interception numbers to inflate as well. Also something to consider is how much of a competitor Evans can be and how he handles his frustration as his amount of targets shrink. We’ve seen it, and it ain’t pretty.

  27. Pigsueybucsfan Says:

Question. Can we receive a compensatory draft pick for losing Hump since he was an UDFA?

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Buc believer – I only say good for him because the more money he got the more likely it is the Bucs get a comp pick. But you’re right, there’s too much of this sissy “good game” stuff out there. We need to be angry, and not read comic books! GRRRR!!!! I hate “good game” and comic books, makes me angry! GRRR!!!!!

  29. Rod Munch Says:

Pigsueybucsfan – Kwon will net the Bucs a lot more, but IF the Bucs don’t sign anyone, and they just lost Kwon and Hump, yes, they might get like a 3rd and maybe a 5th. But anyone they sign will take away from that formula they use. Then again who knows, the formula is totally made up by the NFL and no one actually knows what anyone will get until it’s announced.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

An undrafted free agent does not get you comp picks. Right?

Question 2: For those saying we are stacked at WR, how so?

We have Mike Evans. He’s established as good.

    Godwin has shown promise.

And that’s it. Don’t give me this Bobo & Watson nonsense. Neither is proven.

Don’t give me the OJ Howard stuff either. He can’t stay healthy…just like ASJ before him.

We have Brate at TE, but half of the dimwits here want to trade him.

Arians is destroying the offense. How he can say we’re not rebuilding is beyond me.

  31. Tony LA Says:

    Great non-signing by the Bucs
Loved Humph but he was overrated and went to a team that barely passes the ball.

He will fade into the void. Glad he got paid… elsewhere.

    Glad Djax is gone.
Loved Kwon but not at that price.

We knew this was how Day 1 would go.
    Get off the ledge, boys.

  32. Kobe Faker Says:

“Kobe has to shake his head and laugh

all these players leaving and GMC is still here…LOL

the curse of Tmax lives on…sorry bro…lol

Kobe has told you Sheep for the last 4 years Jason Gump is the culprit to the disaster in front of us

This imposter has destroyed this franchise to the bottom 3 worst team in all NFL

Kobe has warn you about this cartoon character and here we are”

    Kobe Faker

  33. T REX Says:

Brate instead of Hump. Cant pay both but we had to overpay jaboo’s love child. Too much building around a loser ab. Tgat pick set us back a decade. Garbage in garbage out.

  34. Destinjohnny Says:

Like the judge said in caddy shack
The world needs ditch diggers and we are ditch diggers

  35. westernbuc Says:

Happy for Hump, it’s a shame we couldn’t keep him, but I’m happy he got paid. Deserves every bit of it, and at least he went to the AFC

  36. NO RISK IT NO BISCUIT Says:

that’s the way to chop some wood….good for him.

    He truly is Tennessee ready…lol

  37. Greg Says:

Hump was popular for good reason and a productive player for us. However with our financial needs in no way was he worth to us what he was paid. Best wishes to him as it will open more options to us. The receivers will be there it is up to JW to deliver!

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Bonzai – The comp is based on the new contract they sign, that’s what I’ve always heard, it doesn’t take into account how you got the player. But again who knows, it’s a made up secret formula by the NFL that doesn’t seem to have any consistency. Anywho if you find out otherwise let me know.

  39. Wesley Says:

Jason Licht fault we’re in this mess to where we can’t sign guys.

  40. DooshLaRue Says:

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
    Comic books……..
    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Get some new material Fancy Man!!!!!!!

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  41. Wesley Says:

Another HUGE mistake by Licht. I get we couldn’t afford him but Licht mistakes are the reason we can’t afford him.

  42. HeavyE Says:

    See Ya, not worth 9mil. a year…….

  43. Rod Munch Says:

    DooshLaRue – So triggered, LOL!

  44. Buc1987 Says:

Where’s Tmax to tell us only Bucs fans think Humphries is worth 9 million a year like he’s bee telling us for the past 3 months now…

Humphries is a scrub…and only Buc fans think he’s any good cause we’re all idiots.

    Crickets!

  45. D-Rome Says:

Team lost big with him. Team will continue to lose without him. Bucs made the right non-move regardless.

  46. Tbbucs3 Says:

Wow and I thought the Bucs were bad before today……from bad to worse

  47. ATrain Says:

But thank goodness we still have the 13 million dollar softie

  48. Jim Says:

Have people forgot about Chris Godwin?

  49. Bradentonbuc Says:

Happy for Hump. I remember seeing him at TC his rookie year and thinking he had potential. Not too bad for a guy rooming with 2 other teammates the past few years

  50. ERIC Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai, compensatory picks have no bearing on a players draft pedegree. Mainly they are determined by the amount of guaranteed money (also, post season honors etc they have) an unrestricted free agent signs for with their next team against whom their old team replaces them with. The more drastic the money difference and awards the better the compensation pick is. Both Humphries and Alexander should net us a solid pick because we will be replacing them with bargain fre agents or new draft picks

  51. DooshLaRue Says:

    @Munch

    Really, I think you’re………
    GRRRRRRRRREAT.

    Go Bucs!!!

  52. Billy Says:

Justin Watkins can easily take Humps place for far cheaper.
Good for Hump. Undrafted and everyone here thinks he was unreplacable. The true telling will be when the Bucs win without the guys Koetter had on the field every week. We said fix the OL and DL and none of these guys are that.

    They obviously have an agenda.
    Hold your hats!!!!

  53. Rod Munch Says:

ERIC – The comp pick is based on your FA class, not position specific. So if the Bucs lost Hump and Kwon, then gave huge money to a safety, that safety would count against their compensation. I’ll be surprised if the Bucs end up getting much of anything since I expect they’ll sign some people and it will cancel out losing these two.

  54. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, Funchess got $10-million, and can make up to $13m. It’s only for one year, but Funchess is a garbage WR. For you Hump fan boys that is by far your biggest piece of ammo in the “should have” game.

  55. Pickgrin Says:

Eric – Compensatory picks are primarily determined by the amount of $ paid to the FA and the amount of playing time that FA clocks for his new team.

So a FA who gets a $10M+ from his new team – and starts and plays a majority of snaps – usually equates to a 3rd rd comp pick for the team that “lost” that player.

There are other factors – but that’s the gist of it.

Bucs just have to make sure they “lose” more FA’s than they sign in 2019 – and the result will be two pretty good comp picks next year for Kwopn and Hump.

Teams who sign more FAs than they lose in a given year are ineligible to receive a comp pick in the following year’s draft…

  56. IBelieveinJameis Says:

Licht has been a winner so far this offseason by getting anything back for DJax and just waiting on these foolish spending sprees teams are going on. Most of these big $$$ deals are a joke such as the one for Kwon. Hump deal isn’t good and is an overpay but not as bad as Kwon’s. Kudos to both guys for getting paid but I’m glad we didn’t pay that price for either.

  57. Pete Mitchell Says:

We just went 10-22 with Kwon, Djax and Hump….

Pretty sure we can do the same without them.

  58. Tval Says:

Good for him. Not worth that and bucs could add Nelson Agholor for less

  59. Anthony b Says:

So another season doing nothing but setting out to gain only 2nd string 3rd string free agents that aren’t helping the franchise lmao I love the bucs but there management and owners are greedy but yet a complete joke ..you gotta spend money to make money and the glazers don’t have that picture set in mind

  60. Joe Says:

So another season doing nothing but setting out to gain only 2nd string 3rd string free agents that aren’t helping the franchise lmao I love the bucs but there management and owners are greedy but yet a complete joke ..you gotta spend money to make money and the glazers don’t have that picture set in mind

There’s this thing called a salary cap that the Bucs are up against. In order to buy expensive free agents, the Bucs will have to unload quality starters. Who do you suggest running off?

  61. Unkown Says:

Y is it that we here only things about Jackson jump and kwon ? What about Tampa just signs so an so aka big name player but no all we’re hearing is another seasoned team another year making no splashes spending no money to at least give this team some hope

  62. Joe Says:

Y is it that we here only things about Jackson jump and kwon ? What about Tampa just signs so an so aka big name player but no all we’re hearing is another seasoned team another year making no splashes spending no money to at least give this team some hope

Again, there is this thing called a salary cap. The Bucs are up against it. In order to buy big-named free agents, the Bucs will have to toss some starters (and their salaries) overboard. Who do you propose should be run off, Cam Brate, Lavonte David, JPP, Ali Marpet?

  63. NO RISK IT NO BISCUIT Says:

Let me help you out Joe!

    S_A_L_A_R_Y C_A_P

    L_O_L

  64. Tbbucs3 Says:

Here’s the thing Joe, the Bucs in previous Jason Licht year the Bucs have been perfectly fine in salary cap yet continue to fail in signing good free agents so I don’t how anyone can say we would’ve signed a big time free agent this year if we had the cap space cause Jason Lichts pathetic philosophy fails time and time again.

  65. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

Good offense for Humps skills. Mariota cant throw far, whereas Jameis is one of the leagues better deep ball QBs (no not hail mary’s, deep as in depth of target, and is widely seen as one of the better QBs at throwing in the 15-25 yard range)

Hump excels at dump offs and quick routes. Good for him and I wish him luck.

  66. Bucsdelight Says:

Stat based reasoning here, he’ll be fine with Mariota. Mariota one of the better QBs in the league. As far as I’m concerned, him and Winston are on par with each other as far as stats go. Mariota was better in 2016 and Winston was better in 2017. Last year was very similar in production per game. Mariota has an advantage though, he wins games (having had several 4th qtr comebacks) and has taken his team to the playoffs and won a playoff game.

Regardless, we are stuck with Winston and hope he does better this year than Mariota.
