“You Can Sit There And Beat Up On Grown Men”

March 6th, 2019

Talks contract extension.

If nothing else, now armed with a new three-year contract, Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith can find a legal way to work out his aggression.

The main selling point for Smith staying in Tampa Bay to protect the backside of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, seems to be that he can answer the bell on Sundays. Smith has never missed a start in the first four years of his NFL career and only one Bucs player in team history has done that (former left tackle Paul Gruber).

So when asked about his ability to stay healthy throughout a season despite getting pounded on by other large men every play, Smith smiled and said, “It’s great. It’s fun. You can sit there and beat up on grown men.”

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht lauded Smith saying Smith “has a tremendous upside still.”

Licht also mentioned Smith’s starting streak saying, “It is such a quality that is hard to find” and Smith’s streak “doesn’t get talked about enough.”

As far as New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Cam Jordan calling out Smith on Twitter yesterday upon learning Smith re-signed with the Bucs, Smith smiled and claimed it wasn’t personal.

Smith said NFL players all know each other and he believes Jordan was “just having fun” running “trash talk.”

Smith noted that his goal in this process was to remain with the Bucs.

“I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else.”

I was hoping that Cam Jordan’s comments would inspire him, but evidently not.

At least it’s only a two year deal. About the only thing Smith seems to get aggressive with is maybe a steak. Guy’s play is as soft as butter, and Jordan and the rest of the league knows it.

The sad thing is every DE we play next season doesn’t believe “that you can’t just beat up on grown men”. Smith has the skill set at LT to end Jamie’s career.

Yea, he can’t see himself anywhere else because he has had it good here. Under Koetter he could loaf and tank plays. Now he has his millions and has no need to prove anything to anybody because dumb a$$ Buc’s management has rewarded him for mediocre play.

    It’s a Buc’s life!

Yeah it’s all fun and trash talk until you let him break your qb back smh he doesn’t even take it personally this guy is soft as fresh cotton!
