Long Shot

February 21st, 2019

Distant odds.

In the past two years, the Bucs have had to deal with both a slob of a defensive tackle who practices public displays of Dendrophilia and a malcontent wide receiver.

It’s hard to imagine the Bucs, after seeing these two headaches all but doom each season, adding a very expensive quitter.

It seems Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report is of the same mind. Since Steelers general manager Kevin Cobert announced yesterday he would not tag quitting Le’Veon Bell, the news fueled speculation of where Bell may end up.

Gagnon threw the Bucs into the mix but made it clear Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht would have to play serious hopscotch to somehow find cash for Bell.

Only one offense averaged fewer yards per carry than the 2018 Bucs, who need to get serious about adding backfield talent and experience alongside quarterback Jamies Winston. Could new offensive-minded head coach Bruce Arians lobby for Bell? The running back lives in Florida and the Bucs have plenty of receiving talent, but they aren’t considered a contender and they have only $15 million in cap space.

You damn right the Bucs need to get serious about finding a running game. C.J. Anderson, the postseason Rams star last year and a 2017 1,000-yard rusher (who ran behind a truly awful offensive line in Denver) might be available and was out there last year for the taking; Joe screamed day and night for the Bucs to sign him.

Nah, the Bucs were too good to go down that road. Sean McVay got swindled, didn’t he?

Also, the crowd at NFL Live, seen on BSPN earlier this week, floated Jay Ajayi as a possible addition to the Bucs this offseason. Nah, Ajayi, who is coming off a torn ACL, didn’t do anything last year.

Guess what? Neither did Ronald Jones.

He wants to be in Miami. If they have money after cutting qb, they should make an effort.

  2. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    “Dendrophilia” ???? LOL!!! Thanks Joe!!!

  3. Anonymous Says:

It’s hilarious that a 5-11 team is up against the salary cap lol.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If Bell would sign for about $4 million……I’d love to have him……

I think in the last week or two we FA possibilities have been trotted out that add up to about $379 million……and what…..we cut Vinny for $8 mil…..we are just a tad short.

  6. Bruce Blahak Says:

Signing any high priced player at this time is detrimental to sustained success of this perennial losing franchise…

  7. Jeebs Says:

It was the O-Line, Joe. Everyone and their mom and Ira all agree. Go watch the tape. Believe in Barber and RoJo and a 2019 5th round pick.

  8. Old School Athlete Says:

If you think it’s “hilarious ” that our Bucs are 5-11, you are not a fan. Go back to your Saints blog. They miss you, I’m sure. We have an above average collection of talent; strong in several areas. Unfortunately, we had a coaching staff that wouldn’t know what to do with the ’85 Bears.
The difference between the old staff and the new staff could not be more striking. Yes, we need to shore up some areas, but I have confidence the coaching staff and management will make the right calls.
No thanks on Bell. I respect his ability, but we don’t need our young players infected with his “me first” attitude.

  9. Bucafan951 Says:

Fix the real problem… the o line! Fix the line and let rojo loose.

  10. Darin Says:

Wow. There really is a philia for Saggy.

  11. JP_09 Says:

Fix the trenches and DRAFT LJ SCOTT, but why would you draft a running back with size, strength, patience, vision, who can also catch and block

  12. Mort Says:

Cool so let’s cut Jameis in order to pay for this guy? Cuz how the hell are you gonna pay for these dudes you keep saying we should sign. This is beyond a waste of time at this point.

  13. SB Says:

I know it is the off season and all but…….
    Really Joe???

  14. BucNole Says:

We don’t need any. more me first quitters on this team PERIOD

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

You fans need to understand something. The Bucs can sign anyone they want and fit under the cap later.

Not to mention teams spend over the cap every year.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

give me a DE or OL….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  17. Owlykat Says:

We don’t need any more VJax attitudes. Notice that a noname low draftpick behind the excellent Pittsburg OL did almost as good as L’von which should tell you their OL is what made him look good and unless we replace D. Smith and Benenoch on our OL L’von will likely do no better than Barber did last year. Fix our OL first and take Snell in the third round and we don’t need mefirst spoiled L’von.

  18. Bucafan951 Says:

^how do they spend over the cap?

  19. c-spann Says:

If we are going to sign a RB with big money, we need to look at Tevin Coleman. Bell is injury-prone and will fail drug test, he is not reliable.

  20. Nick2 Says:

Cut Gerald and a few others and that cap space balloons. Make it happen Jason.

  21. Pickgrin Says:

Fix the Oline instead – then draft a versatile RB.

No way can the Bucs afford a $15M running back…

  22. Bucnjim Says:

Could be wrong but I don’t think the cap comes into play until the start of the regular season.

  23. Not there yet Says:

No thanks a running back in the draft will do. Not fascinated with the big name free agents. If your a good team you just are, if you pin your hopes on one single players to fix your team it won’t be a running back it would be a quarterback. Jacksonville made their splash when they signed Campbell and had a good back but still came down to quarterback as to why they couldn’t beat the patriots to get to the Super Bowl. If BA can get Winston to take another step we’ll be just fine drafting the guy we need

  24. Anonymous Says:

If he can come back healthy, I hope they’re gonna give him some major competition time between Wilson and RoJo in TC. I think Wilson could be a diamond in the rough. I say these things because I know we’re not getting Bell and not likely trading for a top-tier RB. Likely to get an above average RB in FA. But we need an oline before we can even consider any of this.

Round 2: OG Chris Lindstrom (Boston College)
FA: RT Ja’Waun James (Dolphins) (26 years old)

  25. Figures Says:

    @old school athlete

    Shut your mouth idiot.

Yea it is hilarious how poorly run this organization has been run.
I’ve been watching since 1986 I have the right after all these years of dog sh it and spending my money on games to laugh at them and call them out. So crawl back in your little whole and shut the F up

  26. SOEbuc Says:

No thanks. They need to have an idea about how they’re going to rebuild the oline before they start talking about Le’Veon Bell wanting to be the highest paid player in the league. Hope there will be good competition between Wilson and RoJo in TC because Wilson was killing RoJo’s number’s with only six touches he got. I can see them getting an above average RB in FA, but not trading for a top-tier and not drafting one early. If we were to get more early round picks somehow, I suppose I might not have a problem picking up Darrell Henderson with a second pick in the third.

Round 2: OG Chris Lindstrom (Boston College)
FA: RT Ja’Waun James (26, Dolphins)

  27. lewis Says:

No Thanks this is what the bucs need make a splash but no thanks wow we don’t even have a starting back on the roster , Barber is below average and we do not even know what jones is yet due to a horrible head coach but I do not think bell is coming here anyways bur we need a back first and foremost first round besides adding o lineman with no back is stupid ,what u think barber is the guy he cant even run in the second level without tripping when he wide open .

  28. Dre Says:

Le’Veon bell is worth every penny of that 12-13 mill per

  29. Dre Says:

C-spann your observation of bell is incorrect

  30. GhostofSchiano Says:

A 5-11 team facing salary cap issues? WTH?

  31. GrayBalls Says:

SOE, I like the thought of drafting Lindstrom in the 2nd and signing Taylor. We could also move back a couple spots in the first and take Taylor out of Florida and Dieter later on. Get real competition and depth along the offensive line

  32. GhostofSchiano Says:

Like to see Gump sign Cameron Fleming, Cowboys OT, he will be available.

  33. Lewis Says:

we need to pick at 5 period

  34. Lewis Says:

Moving back doesn’t work for us with this GM

  35. Buccaneerscotty Says:

    Don’t want this ahole!

  36. Armybucfan Says:

I find it hilarious that the same people complaining about how one dimensional we are on offense would throw away a chance to get the best running back the league has seen in years. People are pissed because he stood his ground and said he would not accept another franchise tag because he believed he should be paid like the leagues most leading rusher and recover out of the backfield. Yes 99% of American can not understand that concept because we don’t make millions to play a game that once your get hurt or old your injury riddled battered body is useless and that’s hoping you don’t get some sore of brain damage to accompany that. Do I feel Le’Veon bell would help the bucs YES. Do I think there were better ways to handle leaving Pittsburg…yes but the writing is on the wall there and it seems like a mass exodus from that organization. So I’d say we cannot assume he’s a quitter just because he was being screwed out of a raise that he rightfully deserved. You all are so hypocritical… oh let’s not get bell and settle for Rojo who should have never graced an nfl uniform instead of a running back that has canton written all over him. Aren’t you al tired of losing or is that all you expect now from your team. I want to win and this team deserves to win but we have to trim the fat from players who aren’t worth what they are getting paid and replace them with someone who is!!!

  37. Buccaneerscotty Says:

He’s a fat ass spoiled cry baby bitch who hasn’t played in a year no thanks

  38. Alanbucsfan Says:

So DJax “all but doomed the season”
What planet do you live on?

  39. BucsFIRE Says:

    Armybucfan Says:
“Aren’t you al tired of losing?
I want to win and this team deserves to win”

We are in agreement there, of course, but no I don’t want to try and spend 15 mil a year on Bell. We just don’t have the room to even begin to think about that, and plus I just don’t like the fit with him.
