Injuries For Chris Godwin “80, 90 Percent Of The Season”
February 3rd, 2019It was not just Jameis Winston and DeSean Jackson representing the Buccaneers roster at the Super Bowl and the media frenzy known as Radio Row.
The guy who should make Jackson old news, receiver Chris Godwin, was there as well.
Godwin had plenty to tell SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Some highlights:
*Godwin dealt with a rash on injuries last year but still had 59 catches, 842 yards and 7 touchdowns. “Nobody goes through completely healthy and I was not an exception. I was dealing with some injuries, you know I would say 80, 90 percent of the season,” Godwin said. “That’s not like an excuse or anything, as a professional you have to come ready to play.”
*Coaches did a great job for two years getting lots of reps for Ryan Fitzpatrick, in addition to Jameis, Godwin said, to the point there was no adjustment between QBs. (Godwin may not have consulted with Jackson before making that comment.)
*Knowing when to sit in zones, route details, etc., are examples of things Godwin improved on as a second-year player.
*Godwin said Dirk Koetter greatly helped him develop primarily because he was so honest. Godwin said he never had to wonder if any aspect of his performance was right or wrong. Godwin cares greatly about the nuances of the game and Koetter was very detailed with him.
*Bucco Bruce Arians and some staff members met Godwin last week, he said. Godwin added the Cardinals showed no interest in him in the NFL Draft back in 2017, so he had no ties.
Joe will have more from Godwin soon.

All the tools. Good # 2 now who could blow up at any time. Go Bucs!

Interesting comments about no adjustment needed between qbs. Especially when you remember that Jackson skipped receivers meetings and didnt take notes when there. So why was no adjustment needed for a receiver that worked hard and paid attention like Godwin, while another receiver couldnt get on same page with Jameis? It seems pretty obvious that the problem as to why they couldnt hook up on the long ball was Jacksons fault. Add in Jacksons comments the other day that he doesn’t like running full speed in practice and that explains things. Fitz could hit him because all he had to do was throw it as far as he possibly could. Jameis with the stronger arm couldnt do that and needed more touch to adjust the distance. Something that could have been worked out in meeting and full on practice, but Jackson wasnt running for him at same speed in practice as in a game. It was all Jacksons fault.

A story centered on another player finally and Joe still found way to express his hate for DJax. smh

Evans, Howard and Godwin. The future should be bright. Watch Talib win a SB with his 3rd team. That’s a kick in the nuts. Joe will there be an open thread?

I appreciate how hard Godwin works. Hopefully he will be 100% physically going into next season.
February 3rd, 2019 at 6:07 pm
Godwin has a chance to be really good once he gets the drops and fumbles out of his system. I believe it was in the Pittsburgh game Chris had some opportunities that cost the Bucs a couple of touchdowns.
Gotta move on and make those catches to be great Chris. Take care of your body too, Jameis will put you in danger sometimes with the high throws

When they change the hideous uniforms I’ll buy a Godwin jersey for sure.

Now just sign Hump.

Sounds just like some off season leverage. Godwin played good but I don’t see him as a #1 down the road. But every team needs a good solid #2 and I’m glad we found him.
February 3rd, 2019 at 6:37 pm
No SB thread?
Oh well..
Hey look, Brady just pulled a Brad Johnson, throwing an INT on his first pass in th SB.

@Rod Yeah, but the Rams did nothing with the gift. I feel like McVay is out-thinking himself right now. Calling a bad game. Give Gurley the ball on 3rd and 3. And from the Pats 42, why not go for the 4th and 3.

Drug test Edelman

I agree I’m over the Desean Jackson rhetoric.
February 3rd, 2019 at 9:45 pm
Goff is straight trash. I think it’s funny that people even put him in the same league as Jameis. Today’s game, just like the Bears game, shows what he can do with little protection and no running game. This is what Jameis has dealt with his entire career and if Jameis looked like this he would have been run out of the league. But Goff is good? They will never win it all with this guy unless they can just pound people to death with the running game.

Ndog
Agreed. Give JW a halfway decent D and a run game and we would have been in the playoffs a few times since he’s been here. (Also with a non high school lvl coach)

Both of these teams are losers, their QB’s turnovered the balls and as we all know from the Winston haters, all that matters is turnovers, and so there are no winners here. Awful game.
February 3rd, 2019 at 10:11 pm
I am so sick of these aholes winning every year. I want the Bucs to win for us but man it would be extra sweet for us to put an end to this crap.
February 3rd, 2019 at 10:16 pm
Brady wins his 6th Super Bowl in 9 appearances and we can’t win more than 5 games a season. pathetic
February 3rd, 2019 at 10:21 pm
I’m a huge Winston backer but I won’t say Goff is trash, but he’s certainly not an elite QB either. He’s play a pretty cupcake schedule against a bad NFC West, he lost to both SB teams from last year, he should have lost to the Saints twice but he did beat KC, on the road, so that’s certainly a quality win. Still in crunch time he crumbled, but he’s still young, and that’s a loaded team – so he’ll have more chances.
February 3rd, 2019 at 10:24 pm
Jean Lafitte – Want to talk about pathetic, the Bucs have won 100% of the SB’s they’ve been in while Brady only has a 66.6 win percentage. The Bucs know how to win in the big game, while Brady loses 33% of the time in the same situation. Pitiful.
February 3rd, 2019 at 10:29 pm
LOL. Tell em Rod.
February 3rd, 2019 at 10:35 pm
9 by Brady alone compared to 1 by an entire franchise. Yes the Bucs will forever be 1 for 1. yay!
February 3rd, 2019 at 10:38 pm
I had the winning pool tonight……..3-3…..won the third quarter & the end of game……incredible how LA missed the last fg…..I was simply lucky…..also incredible that NE was stopped inches & went for the FG instead of 1st down….lucky, lucky me $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

how much were your squares?
February 3rd, 2019 at 11:46 pm
Wow amazing what good coaching and a run game does for a QB. Goff looked like a high school QB tonight.
Goooooo Jameis!!!

Justin Watson disappeared. I thought he was the next Godwin but with better height and speed.

With the exception of like one draft class, you generally shouldn’t expect rookie WRs to do much, and the Bucs are loaded at WR. Based on last preseason, which is all we really saw of him and he looked good, he’ll be just fine. Ideally you take guys who aren’t first rounders and let them develop for a year or two.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:21 am
Brady can fake being a winner all he wants but he lost where it matters and that is on the stat sheet – he was -1 in the turnover column, and you CAN NOT WIN, EVER, if you turn the ball over. This wasn’t a win, it was a loss to those that know turnovers is all that matters. Just like in the KC game, he turned the ball over, and that makes you a LOSER no matter the final score.

Thanks for sharing. Your posts matter. Everyone appreciates the sarcasm.
We get it .
Our QB and the 6 time super bowl winner are the same! Both are legends On and off the field.
Great stuff.

@Tbbucs3 … “Wow amazing what good coaching and a run game does for a QB. Goff looked like a high school QB tonight. Goooooo Jameis!!!” Wow Tbbucs, you’re sounding more & more like Rod Munch & a number of other Jameis-apologists. No need to disrespect Goff to prove some frivolous point about Jameis’ greatness. Any QB in the NFL can be made to look very ‘ordinary’ by the quality of defenses that we saw last night. That was a defensive masterpiece … by both TEAMS.
What I saw was how much the Bucs’ defense needs to improve to be on the same level as either of those two TEAMS. Tackling was close to perfection. Coverage bordered on perfection also. Timing & use of blitzes was amazing to watch. Coaching was awesome IMO, but more importantly, the players CONSISTENTLY EXECUTED TO NEAR PERFECTION.
Those were two hi-powered offenses pretty much held in check for 60 minutes by great defense. Brady was Brady and Gronk was Gronk, but what made the difference in the end IMO was Edelman … he was downright amazing in terms of how he consistently got open against excellent coverage. Had the 2018 Bucs played either team last night, we would’ve lost by 40-3 or something similar. Bucs need major improvement on offense, defense and S/Ts to play at the level we saw last night. Here’s hoping BA & his coaching staff is up to the task.

Yet another player states how much he liked Koetter as a coach.
The haters and trolls claim Koetter was the worst coach in Buccaneers history. Not by a long shot. When they say that, it makes it obvious they have not been fans long, or never were.
Koetter may not have had the wins, but he got the effort out of the team, and they respected him. Every locker room will have 1-3 discipline players per year. That;s why those guys are sent packing.
It does not mean there was an ongoing issue in the locker room.

Defense Rules
“You’re sounding more and more like a Jameis apologist”
Why? Because I support my teams Quarterback? That’s a crazy concept many Bucs fans don’t understand. I criticize Jameis when he deserves it but here’s an idea, let’s support the franchise Quarterback and see how he does under a new regime.
February 4th, 2019 at 11:27 pm
Defense Rules – You literally thought Ryan Smith and Chris Conte were good starters and the defense would be great this past year, so that shows exactly how little you know about football.
