Jameis Discusses Koetter Firing

February 1st, 2019

Transparency an issue?

For the first time to Joe’s knowledge, we now have a reaction from America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, to the firing of the only offensive coordinator he has known in the NFL, Dirk Koetter.

Koetter, of course, was dismissed by Team Glazer minutes after the final game of the 2018 season for going 10-22 his last two seasons after posting a 9-7 record in his first.

In 2015, Koetter was Lovie Smith’s offensive coordinator before becoming head coach.

Appearing on “Schein on Sports,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM “Mad Dog” Radio today, hosted by popular sports radio and television host Adam Schein, Jameis seemed to hint Bucs players let Koetter down for the simple fact the Bucs didn’t win.

Though Jameis’ comments were cryptic, it didn’t seem like he is in a state of mourning over a new coaching staff being brought in.

“I felt like that Dirk Koetter, Todd Monken, our offensive staff, I felt like we had a bunch of great coaches,” Jameis said. “That’s why they got jobs when they left. We just didn’t win.

“I think we needed that change with having somebody, you know, more high energy, somebody transparent, somebody relatable to our team that can hopefully change things around and we are going to change things around.”

Earlier, Jameis said of new coach Bucco Bruce Arians that he will be “transparent.”

Jameis twice invoked the word “transparent” when discussing both Koetter and Arians. That jumped out at Joe. Were coaches not always upfront with Jameis in the past three seasons? Or could it be Bucs coaches lost trust in Jameis after he initially denied he had anything to do with the hassle of an Uber driver in Arizona, which may have led to fraying relationships?

Jameis reiterated several times in the nearly two-minute interview live from radio row at the World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta that the Bucs need to quit yapping and start winning.

“It’s time to stop talking about it and be about it,” Jameis said.

I think Bruce is going to see that he needs to tap into Winston’s leadership skills.

Winston needs to take ownership of this team and become a true field general.

Bruce is showing his comitiment to Jamies and I love it. The fans will do the same all all’s that will be left if for Winston to put the ball in the endzone.

    GO BUCS!!!

  4. asdf Says:

@Tampabaybucfan – it pretty simple, Jameis doesn’t throw a great deep ball (which is what Jackson is good for) and hasn’t excelled at hitting receivers in stride to date. He’s been much better at throwing the 15-20 balls thus far in the NYL

  5. Mort Says:

Hope Jameis behaves himself at the Super Bowl this time…

  6. tmaxcon Says:

let a realist translate…. jameis was pissed because the spineless organization led by glazers never had his back…. simple as that. bucs organization is a joke that no one will ever take seriously…. bucs will be 6 and 10 with the first head coach to step down at halftime of a game…

your wife is more likely to cheat on you this weekend than jameis make a mistake. he has been a model citizen for 3 years you people are laughable bringing up this bs over and over again. you support religious hypocrite quitters like cancer93 but rag on non-stop a fine young man who is a VICTIM of a POLITICALLY CORRECT society that is more concenred with feelings than the truth…

    @asdf

Remember it’s not permitted to say anything critical of Jameis otherwise your referred to as a hater, even if the criticism is valid

  9. westernbuc Says:

Transparency goes both ways. Like when you absolutely deny what happened in the Uber and the NFL finds evidence you lied.

Koetter wanted professional athletes to act like professionals, after all, that’s what the players keep saying. “It’s a business…”

Maybe Arians can change the culture. I’m optimistic, but if he disappoints then I look forward to the excuses then

    Jameis Winston – Coach Killer

  11. Dooshlarue Says:

    Well good for you Jameis.
Now make sure you don’t eff it up with BA by lying to him like you did with DK.

And remember……..like you said……God is good.

  12. Jeffbuc Says:

So tmaxx let me get this straight. You say no one including ownership had jameis back. So when everybody in the country we’re saying we should cut jameis he isn’t worth it. When all that was done he sucked when he came back got benched. Could have easily been released then. He had the off the field issues. And was awful on the field yet the bucs still didn’t. And then this offseason the bucs could just release him and have a clean break. With the 5th overall pick they could have there choice of qb in the draft. Yet they commit to paying his 20 plus million 5th year option. You have just lost any credibility which was about .009% you had with me from your mindless dribble on here. How any bucs fan can say anyone associated with the bucs didn’t have his back is just plain stupid comment. Maybe koetter but that’s about it. So nice try to blame this on the glazers like you do everything them or Mccoy are always to blame.

  13. Jim Says:

If a player head butts an opposing linebacker, tries to chase down a ref and starts fights on the sideline, is the Bruce going to come down hard on him? This will be interesting…

  14. El Buco Realisto Says:

Transparency was an issue!!!!!!! Being suspended was an issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Letting the team down was an issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it was all from Jw3 and it torpedo the season!!!!!!!!!

2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Dom / Licht ? Says:

BA will not be fired… America’s turn over machine will either reach his “potential “ y’all keep talking about or he will be gone! Let’s all pray BA can fix QB position weather it’s Winston or someone else!

  16. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Were coaches not always upfront with Jameis in the past three seasons?” Don’t think Jameis is the best one to be calling out ANY COACH for lack of transparency after his Uber ‘hassle’ Joe.

  17. lambchop Says:

Jameis is talkin about Jameis. Stop talkin about it and be about it. Then we won’t have to witness “Eatin Ws” with fingers and maybe we can see the W on the scoreboard instead.

  18. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey tmaxcon, how would you be if your significant other was not truthful in their recollection of a infidelity that you learned of from a third party. And that when you asked about it they were not truthful in their response. Would you be okay they are pissed because you didn’t have their back? I doubt it. When opportunity presented itself Americas QB was not truthful in his response to the allegations, with the folks who sign the checks, his team, and his teams fans. Yes I am a Jameis fan too he is the Bucs QB. I want nothing but success for him. But if you can not be forthcoming with your bosses they will not be happy with you. INCREDIBLE is it not.

    Go Bucs!

  19. RustyRhinos Says:

    Test

  20. RustyRhinos Says:

Haha Haha must have typed something the filter did not like. Oh well.

  21. NPRSageBoy Says:

For a guy who lied to ownership and his coaches about the Uber situation, embracing transparency makes me laugh.

  22. Fire Light Says:

  23. BrianBucs Says:

So America’s Crotchgrabber And Liar now wants transparency? Thats Hilarious!

  24. SteelStudBuc Says:

You know why Jameis wears the glove on his left hand? No fingerprints.

  25. Jean Lafitte Says:

Jameis definitely doesn’t go without blame.

He get’s a reprieve and now it’s time to make the most of it. ..Just do your job.
