Bucs’ Foe In London Announced

January 21st, 2019

A city getting to host a Super Bowl is a fun, fun thing. However, there is a price to pay.

And that toll was the Bucs had to cough up a home game for the 2019 season.

Today, the NFL announced the Bucs will host the Stinking Panthers in London. No date was announced but now you know who to hate on when you do book your flight and itinerary.

(No, Joe doesn’t own a passport.)

The London game for the Stinking Panthers-Bucs is one of four NFL games to be played in London and one of five that will be played internationally. The fifth venue will be in Mexico City provided a concert doesn’t wreck the turf there again.

The NFL schedule generally is released a week or two before the draft in mid-April.

Phuck having to go to England! They know as much about football as the ref that blew the call against the aints!! We don’t make them bring their stupid soccer here so don’t make us bring football there!

  2. Bruce Blahak Says:

A division game in London? Is that a first? The league really hates the Bucs…

  3. Buc4life24 Says:

Not only losing a home game but against a division opponent really sucks!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This seems to be unfair to the Bucs……losing a home game in to a division rival..

Joe, if we win this game will it count toward ending the “Den of Depression”…….guess not.

  5. Etzel Says:

Jenna Laine reported that the London game, was a part of deal for Tampa receiving a Super Bowl bid. Owners picking money over team success. Not the first time. Won’t be the last.

  6. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Seems to be a stupid decision by the league and its not unfair, it is what it is, but why should both carolina and tampa have to go 3000 miles away to play this. I would think the league would want a bigger draw against the Man U bucs than the panthers. But since its carolina and all the history between the US & England surrounding the carolinas and some of the first english colonies being the carolinas, it makes sense i guess…

  7. Clodhopper Says:

“now you know who to hate on when you do book your flight and itinerary.”

So just like every other day of the year.

  8. Loyaltotheend Says:

If Joe doesn’t have a passport this fan/reader will volunteer and be your correspondent if you give me a media pass

  9. simsini Says:

From my point of view this is great as I haven’t seen the Bucs since going on holiday to Tampa in 2012. I’ve been to every London game for the last 8 years since going for the first time against the Chicago Bears, so it’s fantastic that the Bucs are coming back.

  10. '79Defense Says:

How in the hell is this viewed as no big deal by the league to have a team play nine road games and only seven at home? Ridiculous.

  11. Etzel Says:

Happy for all UK Bucs fans and happy to get a national game, so I do not want to be a total downer on this.

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

This is sooooo Bucs!!!! Would rather throw superbowl party then compete for the division!!!!! Just another example of the distractions the owners create for their own team!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to hear them announce another round of hard knocks to “expand the brand”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is why the owners force the team to build around mediocre fan favorite players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many losses in a row before the head coach checks out?????? How soon will we be scouting the 2020 draft??????????????

How long, not long, because what they REAP, is what they SOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Rob in Land O' Lakes Says:

We get screwed out of a home game AND one to a division rival. I may be wrong, but something tells me the NFL would not do this to Dallas/Was, Green Bay/Chicago, any division game involving NY/NY. Do any of you research gurus know if there has been a divisional game in London before now?

  14. D1 Says:

    D RHODES,

Something to consider, both team’s owners have soccer teams in the UK. Both teams are east coast based therefore the travel time will be about the same. Is it an inconvenience , no more than a West coast game.

Yes the team loses a home game but who the F are we kidding, there’s no sell out games at Ray Jay, nor has there been in a long time. So I don’t see why a team with one the lowest amount of season ticket holders has much room to complain.
It’s one game that if played in Tampa would have only sold out if Panther fans decided to travel to tampa. 15 thousand or so….

. besides if it’s that big a deal, freaking go to the game over there. Airline tickets are cheap to London. …

  15. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

I posted a few minutes ago that I wasn’t sure that the NFL held divisional games in London, but I did not have the numbers. After a little bit of research I stand somewhat corrected but with a big *

    08 Bills Dolphins
    09 Jets Bills
    15 Jets Dolphins
    17 Rams Cardinals
18 Rams KC* played in LA Due to field conditions

What’s the common denominator? All home teams involved either have attendedance issues (Buffalo- western NY economy) or transient fan bases (Arizona, Miami, LA Rams). The fan bases are transient due in part to geography (Arizona, Miami, now Tampa Bay) and in part to dwindling attendance due to bad football. And the NFL does not give a spit about these markets and in fact embraces it through NFL Sunday ticket, NFL ticket exchange and the promotion of fantasy football. They would never take a home game from an established NFL team. The Glazers I’m sure didn’t put up a fight about this.

  16. Buccfan37 Says:

Will that game be advertised as the toilet bowl?

  17. D1 Says:

    Realist,

Distractions? It’s an away game just like any other. Same travel time to play the Seahawks .
And you trying to say the Bucs have a home field advantage? Didn’t think so….
And I know that you aren’t going to say that this team has been focused at home or the road in a long time. So distractions are something this team is familiar with and a road trip ain’t gonna add anything extraordinary.

  18. Rob in Land O' Lakes Says:

I have an idea: We always hear that Pittsburgh “travels” so well. Let’s schedule them for a division game and I’m sure every unemployed piece of garbage that moves from Pittsburgh to Tampa Bay to mow lawns and sell weed will absolutely get a passport and buy a plane ticket, hotel etc. in London. I’m sure that will happen.

  19. unbelievable Says:

I’ll gladly fly to London to take notes for you Joe 😉

My passport is ready to go

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

Houston is playing Jax also this year.

  21. Tony G Says:

Joe I live close to London do you want some help? Sorry for the season ticket holders but a Super Bowl has a price. With Bruce and a new coaching staff who knows it could be the Bucs in it. Go Bucs🇬🇧🇺🇸

  22. Elita Vita Says:

Bucco Bruce Arians will probably enjoy the trip. Kangol cap headquarters is in England. He has helped their sales by his popularizing their hats in the USA. Should get a great deal for them while he’s there.

  23. Joe Says:

Jenna Laine reported that the London game, was a part of deal for Tampa receiving a Super Bowl bid.

Funny. Joe could have sworn he typed the same thing in this story. Odd.

  24. gman Says:

When you are the 2nd worst franchise in the league over the past 10 years…you have no leverage. Stop whining.

  25. Anonymous Says:

It makes sense because no one goes to Home Games and it’s guaranteed revenue. The London Games are sold out. I don’t see how The Bucs afford to have A Franchise. Lightning Games sell more tickets and they have 41 Games.

  26. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Anonymous, of course Lightning games sell more tickets. 41 sellouts for the Lightning is 782,772 tickets. 8 sellouts for the Bucs is only 524,944 tickets.

  27. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Anonymous, of course Lightning games sell more tickets. 41 sellouts for the Lightning is 782,772 tickets. 8 sellouts for the Bucs is only

  28. Old School Athlete Says:

The whole international game thing has outlived its usefulness. I’m ready for it to go away.

  29. TBTemojin Says:

I’m a season ticket holder and I’m freaking pumped!!! It would have been better if it was the Saints but Ill take whooping the Stinking Panthers in London. Lets Go Bucs!!!

  30. Dave Says:

The teams giving up the home game have to agree to give it up. The NFL can’t make them give it up. But they do entice teams that do with favorable bye weeks, better schedules, money, or apparently giving the Super Bowl to Tampa.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

I HATE the Bucs/Panthers games, they’re generally the most boring and dull games of the year, so if you’re going to lose a home game, that seems like a good one to lose.
