Time for a fun fact!
Dirk Koetter’s offense this season, the one misguided souls consider to be among the greatest in NFL history, generated the exact same number of points as the 2012 Bucs during Greg Schiano’s inaugural season.
(*Note, this year’s Bucs scored seven more points but had one defensive touchdown; the 2012 Bucs did not score on defense.)
Another fun fact, those Fighting Schianos didn’t get blown out until December, back-to-back games.
Schiano’s team was crushed multiple times in 2013, and then Lovie Smith kicked off his 2014 regime with a national humiliation in Atlanta in Week 3, as the Bucs trailed 56-0 after three quarters. Three weeks later, Joe Flacco got the Ravens out to a 38-0 lead in Tampa.
In 2015, Lovie soiled himself and Bucs fans with a 42-14 loss to the Titans on opening day at the Den of Depression. Why? Because Lovie didn’t think Tennessee would incorporate elements of the spread offense for Marcus Mariota’s professional debut. Brilliant!
In 2016, Dirk Koetter’s Bucs had their asses handed to them, 40-7, in Week 2 in Arizona, a true alley-beating of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. The Bucs lost that game because they believed in their positive press clippings — in Week 2! Two weeks later, Koetter’s Bucs were blown out at home by Denver.
In 2017, it started early again with the Bucs embarrassed in three of their first eight games.
This season humiliation arrived on schedule — in Chicago in September.
But rest assured, Bucs fans, your Buccaneers will break the streak of multiple blowouts in 2019. The son of Bucco Bruce Arians guarantees it. Jake Arians, a former Buffalo Bills kicker, put his foot down on his recent TD Fantasy Podcast and said experience is critical and the Bucs won’t be among the teams with young head coaches getting blown out two or more times.
He ranted about the wave of young NFL head coaches who don’t even have enough ties to put a quality staff together on their own. There are many examples this year.
“Being there and done that, to me, still trumps 80 percent of ingenuity, because you know it works in the playoffs. You know what your team can do,” Jake Arians said.
“You’ve just been there and done that. There’s not going to be any of that overcoaching.
“[Experience] absolutely matters, cohesiveness on staffs, all the stuff we’ve talked about so many times. You look at all these guys getting hired. They don’t know enough guys in the NFL to build staffs. The GMs are helping them build staffs and it’s just puzzling to say the least, of what’s going on with some of this stuff.”
Arians went on to say the young new NFL head coaches might put up “interesting stats” but their consistency won’t be there.
“Going into 2019, the coaches in their 60s are going to be pretty damn impressive. And I guarantee you they’re in almost every game,” he said. “… Their teams will be more ready to play.”

I sure hope Jake is right. Its sad, that as a Buc Fan since the early 90’s, I now enjoy the off season as much or more than the regular season. What the hell is this Playoff and Championship season? Its been so long, I can’t remember how it feels? Oh to be a Bucs Fan…. BA, we are counting on you! Just like the last 4 coaches ‘who couldn’t get us there but this time is different’. At least in the offseason optimism springs eternal. Go Bucs!!!

Yeah those young coaches like Sean McVay will never amount to anything. I mean he’s only 32. What could he possibly know about building a staff, I mean taking a team from 4-12 to the Super Bowl in his first season, thats just a silly statistic. Those young guys might win a little but he is going to show his inconsistancy. Interesting timing for Joe to publish this artical on the eve of the on of the youngest HCs in NFL history leading his team to the Super Bowl. Doesn’t lend much credibility to the young Mr Arians, does it? I do hope he is right about the blow outs ending!

No …we get it. Keep laying into Koetter and then saying on the back end “oh I liked the man “. He was terrible. The worst. And DJax. These guys torpedoed Jameis, America’s quarterback, season . Got it loud and clear.
I just beg you , just Please don’t blame Jameis for anything. Please. Nothing has been his fault.
I mean the 3 game suspension which started the whole Bucs jumping off a cliff was the Uber drivers fault for looking so good that night. It was his friends fault for giving him to many shots.
And then he lied to the organization about what happened that night and pointed the finger at her for not being truthful when he has no clue – clicked off drunk.
And you resent Koetter for losing trust and confidence in his #1 franchise QB which led to his benching.
Wow. It’s Turning into that huge dog turd that’s been in your yard for two weeks here.

@Jake Arians … “The GMs are helping them build staffs and it’s just puzzling to say the least, of what’s going on with some of this stuff.” That’s an absolutely fascinating take; one that wouldn’t have ever dawned on me ( a lot don’t actually). That could very well explain some of the ‘issues’ we saw with the overall quality of the coaching we saw from Raheem & Schiano (they had Dom ‘help’ them put their staffs together?), as well as what happened to Koetter (Dirk had Licht ‘help’ him?). Doesn’t explain at all however what happened with Lovie … his staff was the worst of all & he was the ‘senior coach’ of the group.

Honestly the biggest mistake the glazers made was choosing the folding divas over the fighting Schianos. I blame Revis and McIceCream and their diva-ness. Schiano would have had this team in the p/o regularly by now imo. But hey at least McIceCream is a great guy on and off the field. “A great guy”!

Watching the Rams-Saints game yesterday, I just kept thinking how far the Bucs have to go to play quality football like those 2 teams did. And in the end the TEAM that played the best COMPLIMENTARY FOOTBALL won out (Rams’ defense got the INT; Rams offense moved the ball enough to get into FG territory; and the Rams S/Ts kicked the winning 57 yd FG in overtime … COMPLIMENTARY FOOTBALL).
BOTH TEAMS were solid across the board. BOTH have excellent HCs & coaching staffs. BOTH have solid defenses. BOTH have solid offenses. BOTH have solid S/Ts. BOTH have excellent depth. BOTH have quality LEADERSHIP on the field. BOTH have drafted well in recent years, and picked up some quality FAs to fill in the gaps.
And then there’s our Bucs.

Press clippings ! What are you talking about Joe ? Jameis had five turnovers in the 40-7 Arizona blowout. IN both the Arizona and Denver games of 2016 Jameis
had historically low QBR ratings near 40. I wouldn’t blame either of these losses
on the coaching staff. Seem to remember Talib saying they knew what Jameis was going to do because he was staring down his receivers.

Didn’t BA with arizona got “blown out” 4 times in his last year as head coach their??????? The hype and adulation” are not matching the record and performance from his previous job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The “real” fans are asking how many losses in a row and this coach checks out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No love for the Saints but hate seeing game officials determine the outcome of any game. For the Saints it was one blatant bad call. For the Bucs, it was two, and on consecutive plays in the end zone. With every angle instant replay there’s no excuse to ignore an obvious and flagrant foul. If not fired, at the very least, these officials should be banned from working playoff games. I have watched every NFL championship game since the mid ‘50s. This one is tainted by bad calls.

Defense Rules, right there with you. Watching the rams run that superbly well executed fake punt in about same area the bucs ran one but the results & execution were laughable. The bucs due to a horrible GM are so far away from being an elite team.

Weird that I was just writing about this but missed this pot.

let’s look at those blowouts before we just jump to some conclusion:
@ Eagles 34-7. Not really any excuse. Dominated by the best team in football that year.
@ Rams 33-0. This was the game Palmer was injured and they had to roll with Drew Stanton. Rams were also top team in NFL.
They lost 32-16 to the Rams later in the year starting Blaine freaking Gabbert. They were in that game at half time 19-13 though.
They also lost another game by 10 points to Houston but they were leading going into the 4th quarter… Again – no one would have considered that game a “blow out” similar to Bucs blow outs.
When we talk Bucs blowouts I don’t think 1 score games at halftime. I think of all the 2-3 TD deficits at halftime lol.
So I count 2 legit beatdowns for the 2017 cards, with 1 of them being a game they lost their starting QB in london. Basically 1 equivalent Buccaneer sh1t the bed performance.
They went 5-4 after the bye starting sh1t QBs against a pretty decent schedule:
-49ers
-Seahawks x 2
-Jaguars
-Rams
-Titans
-Redskins
The only really bad teams on that list are the 49ers/Giants.

They were high on their press clippings from the week 1 win, and then they got blown out in week 2 at Arizona. No one said they played well, I think you misunderstood.
Even Demar Dotson and some other guys were on record saying they got too high on their press clippings after week 1 and didn’t show up prepared. It’s been the same story with this team through 4 different coaches over the last 10 years…
