Alan Cross Takes A Coaching Job
January 16th, 2019Multiple times on his Buccaneers Radio Network show, ousted head coach Dirk Koetter talked about how fullback/tight end Alan Cross asked great questions and was one of the smartest football men on the team.
At 25 years old, it seems Cross is smart enough to realize his real football future is in coaching.
Per the Daily Memphian, (did whoever pick that newspaper name choose Wreak Havoc, too?), Cross has left the Bucs and is a graduate assistant coach at the University of Memphis.
Cross played in 36 games (7 starts) for the Bucs since his rookie season of 2016. Overall, he caught 13 balls for 105 yards and 1 TD, and he did not carry the football.

Good for him! Every year he was labeled a long shot to make the roster, but his work ethic and intelligence made him a necessity. Now he will utilize those same traits as a GA. I look forward to hearing about his rise through the coaching ranks. Good Coach Cross!

Thanks for the info Joe. And good luck to Cross as he transitions to coaching.

“Now that 7milly Cam Brate is matching Alan Cross production output, we wont need the real Alan Cross”

Good luck Mark Cook Jr!

Kobe, there are 31 other teams that would be glad to have you as a fan. This team just ain’t for you.
Move on man. You’ll be happier, I’m sure and we won’t have to see your constant negativity.

Actually Faker makes a great point . Do we really need Brate he disappeared when OJ got hurt. I don’t think so use his cap hit to get some O Line help. Arians doesn’t feature to many 2 TE sets.

@Slugglife
Kobe Faker is obviously a person who needs attention…why else create the persona? So ignore him. If everyone does, maybe he will go away.

Cam Brate was playing injured; he’s still very much capable of all he’s done in the past and had great chemistry with Jamies.

Happy for Honcho …..

According to all reports Brate was ALSO injured!!!
So after solid performances he has an off year marred by injury and everybody is ready to dump him? Man!!!!
Koetter made a lot of mistakes. But he also had some beliefs that I totally agree with…like…”You can never have too many good players.”

Best of luck to him.

Brate was injured coming down on the goal line landing hard on his shoulder/back after contorting catching one of Jameis’s goofy throws…

This guy was a true football player!
From walk on long snapper in college to making an NFL roster as an HB/TE!
Unbelievable! Alan Cross is a great story. He is an underdoggGod! If you cant respect a man like AlanCross “your whole perspective is wack!”
We lose Alan Cross but we get Cody Grimm.
Two spirits cut from the same cloth.
Jah bless Alan Cross!!!

Best of wishes for Mr. Cross. Don’t be surprised if he makes it back to the NFL coaching ranks one day..If he wants it. Some former players say though, they enjoy coaching at the HS and college levels better.

Cross was one of my favorite players to don the Pewter and Red, tough as nails, came from nowhere, lunch pail, blue-collar type worker.
Will make a great coach and retiring from the game with vested pension I believe per the CBA, good for him!

If teams are hiring 32 year old coaches to run a franchise, Alan Cross has to know he’s got a legit opportunity.
And if your new coach says he hates fullbacks, and the team isn’t going to pay you because the salary cap is strapped, and the tight ends are stacked, he might as well go home and learn his new trade with his contacts.
Good luck Honcho, you were a great Buc, not unlike Luke Stocker

I feel like he caught every (13) ball thrown his way.

honcho prolly heard from whispers in the vine the he will not transition onto this squad…so he bailed…he was one of koetter lower roster guys and was an awesome buccaneer during this difficult era…he had all those intangibles…every team has or needs a teamate like him…good luck honcho!
#HeFuggedWithMarkCooksShennaniesToo
he might have had a shot to stick in atlanta under koetter again

he was our modern day john mclaughlin…remember we had a defensive guy like him on dungy’s squad for a minute…good special teamer who worked hard and got amped up
