Jason Licht, Meet The 2011 Detroit Lions

Joe still is struggling to stomach general manager Jason Licht telling Bucs fans on the team website Monday that the 2018 Bucs had one of the greatest offenses in NFL history. “As in when football was invented,” Licht emphasized further.
It was an outrageous and ridiculous take, but it really seemed like Licht believed it.
The Bucs had no running game, 3.9 yards per carry, which was tied for second-worst in the NFL. They complemented that with five runs of 20-plus yards, dead last in the league. That Hall of Fame offense Licht referenced? It averaged a paltry 20.8 points through the second half of the season after averaging 28.8 in the first half.
Yes, the Bucs cranked out more than 5,000 yards through the air and threw 36 touchdowns. That was very impressive.
But take a look at the 2011 Detroit Lions, hardly the team you think of when it comes to legendary NFL offenses.
With three NFL no-names sharing the load at running back, those Lions averaged 4.3 yards per carry while Matthew Stafford threw for 5,000+ yards and 41 touchdowns leading Detroit to average 29.6 points per game.
That 2011 Lions offense was more impressive than the Bucs’ this year. Meanwhile, three other NFL offenses were significantly better that season. The Saints, Patriots and Packers all averaged more than 32 points per game with Green Bay hitting 35 per game. Keep in mind NFL defensive rules then were pro-offense but not as much as they are now.
Yes, Joe is piling on Licht for his silly comment on the Bucs offense. The offense needs significant work and Joe hopes Licht and Team Glazer completely understand that and address it.
Oh, that extra special Lions offense of 2011? It put up even more yards through the air in 2012 — and Detroit finished 4-12.

Licht is clueless if he thinks this offense was “great” for 16 games. They were inconsistent just like both of their QB’s

The passing offense was historically great, the rushing offense was horrifically bad.
The problem on offense was the offensive line was terrible.
Also, hurts the offense when your defense and special teams both stink.

The offense was ok unless you love to read the stat sheets instead of watching the game. This was a historical offense for the bucs absolutely but the nfl? No one is going to mistake this offense for the greatest show on turf. We’ll see Licht the spotlight is on you now so no one else to blame but you. He is delusional and I think he’s going to be dumb enough to bring back all the wrong players. He thinks they have a great locker room but they can’t win close games because they are weak minded, that doesn’t scream great locker room but the offense will be even better when you find a coach who knows how to make in game adjustments

Right now we have an inconsistent QB with excellent POTENTIAL. We have one stud WR under contract (ME13) & another (Godwin) with excellent POTENTIAL (still too inconsistent at this point IMO). We have one stud TE (OJ) under contract, plus another (Brate) coming off a meh year. We have an OLine with 2 studs under contract (Marpet & Jensen) and the rest mediocre IMO (although I still think Donovan has POTENTIAL as a Guard … IF we re-sign him).
Your point that this offense “averaged a paltry 20.8 points through the second half of the season” says it all IMO. And this offense was healthy all season (especially compared to our defense). That’s almost exactly what our Jameis-led offense has averaged now for these past FOUR years. Without SIGNIFICANT improvement, it pretty much guarantees us a 4th-place finish this year … in the NFC South.

We need to stop looking at the “shiny object” ranking of this offense and look at the ONLY thing that matters…RESULTS.
I don’t care what those numbers say, we went 5-11! Whoop-de-doo! Congratulations! Here’s a golf clap.

Licht is 99% of the problem. Only the receivers are NFL worthy. The rest of the team by position is either mediocre or poor. There is only one person to blame,and he is the general manager. He will be exposed when the next coach also fails. The only hope will be an improved offensive line, secondary, and a healthy linebacker corp. I don`t trust Licht at all in the draft or free agency. His record indicates that. He should have been fired first.

When Jason Licht became the Bucs GM the Bucs were the worst team in the NFC South, 5 years later the Bucs are still the worst team in the NFC South.

Gee you will jump on something insignificant an make a big deal out of it. Wasn’t the string of 500 yds plus games we started the season with historic?? Am sure that was what he was referring to in his mind.
But so what, around these parts. This was a historic offense by Buccaneer standards.

Nobody cares about moving the ball between the 20’s. Wins aren’t given for passing yards. Points matter. If we averaged 33 points a game with this offense, then respect is deserved but instead it was like 23 pts a game? With a crap defense, that gets you the 5th pick in the draft. Licht should just stay focused on the task at hand and please don’t try to tell me anything good about this 5 win team.

Joe should keep comparing the Lions to the Bucs. A lot of similarities concerning their dysfunction. Detroit can brag about that 0-16 Marinelli run and the Bucs could point at their decade long playoff drought and both teams seem to have a lot of 10 to 12 loss seasons. Is Tampa now going to be called Detroit South? I am rather shocked the Bucs are keeping Licht, he probably promised the Glazers BA and then knowing the Bucs something bad will happen; a health issue or a jilting at the altar jams the deal????
