Your 2019 Buccaneers Opponents
December 31st, 2018With all the drama surrounding the firing of Dirk Koetter, it’s important to remember that it’s all about winning football games.
And these games will be played in the 2019 regular season:
HOME
49ers
Colts
Texans
Cardinals
Giants
Saints
Falcons
Panthers
*1 home game will be played in either Mexico or England*
Away
Rams
Jaguars
Seahawks
Titans
Lions
Saints
Falcons
Panthers
The dates and times won’t be announced until that glorious day in mid-April. For now, all we have are the opponents.
The two games that represent the alleged benefit of a last place schedule are the Lions on the road and the Giants at home.
For securing last place in 2017 — thanks, Dirk! — the Bucs were granted a road game at Chicago and a home game against the 49ers.

Get a defense and somewhat of a running game. No reason why we can be one of the teams that make the playoffs the first year with a new coach. Break through the BS!

How fitting. Derwin James Jr and the Rams on the road! Derwin will be pumped up for that one.

And Jameis will be pumped to make him pay for being over aggressive.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:12 pm
Actually Derwin plays for the Chargers. We don’t play them till 2020.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:21 pm
HA! Who???? Cares anymore… This team is cursed, the Glazers sold their soul for the Super Bowl. Never been more sure of anything in my entire life! Dumpster fire ever since.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:26 pm
Can we draft new fans?
December 31st, 2018 at 8:29 pm
Some tough road games. Time to step up and get tough
December 31st, 2018 at 8:31 pm
Don’t F…ing remind me we get a home game stolen. We may suck but at least it’s OUR sucky team!! I’m still pissed at the NFL!!! Let them keep that sissy sport soccer and let us have football!
December 31st, 2018 at 8:32 pm
The nfl never cuts us slack.

I wonder who the Bucs will play in Tottenham or Wembly (one of the LA teams will get the game in Mexico City), my guess is that a good possibility is the Giants as it would make for a ratings draw and not likely the NFL will move a division game…. There is a chance the Bucs could play 2 games back to back in England as the Jags have a roady overseas as well. Do not see the Bucs being favored in too many of these games unless the Panthers and Falcons continue to regress. DBS is probably spot on with a prediction of 6-10, the over /under win total for the 2019 Bucs will likely open at around 6 until it gets bet down to 5.5. This year they went under big time though if Koetter had any head coaching ability and had the stones to fire Smitty earlier the 2 ATL losses could have easily become wins and the over would have hit. The moral to this story always tend to bet the under for badly coached clubs like the Bucs, Jets, etc….
December 31st, 2018 at 8:40 pm
It’s way too early to even predict wins and losses for next year. A lot of these teams could look totally different then they currently do.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:46 pm
People here say..tough or easy game..Becoming nostradamus makin predictions…PLEASE! Don’t even try it. I can remember some of you (no nanes mentioned) Who said prior to the season how Dirk and Winston were going to..rip it up with wins..They sure did huh? Le’me say this..This Buc team needs to get defensively strong. With a few exceptions..its really sad. And out LB’s just are not strong/physical enough. They react slow. I watched 15 of our games. The last game?…I already knew the outcome. And I can tell you..There were 6..a definite 5 which were winnable with a DEFENSE.. Just a 75% defense would have done it guys! Sure Jameis needs improvement. But these QB’s of our should be named..KETCH-UP. Always playin from behind. We got away from our calling card over the yrs..our trademark of defense. And we have never been the same since.

So what will be the excuses this year? Thre will be plenty because there always are. What were the excuses when the defense held teams to 21 points or less again?
December 31st, 2018 at 9:03 pm
As a Bucs fan living in Seattle, I am happy! Saw them when Schiano blew a 21 point lead here a few years ago.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:04 pm
Is there any NFL precedent or protocol that prevents the league from scheduling any of the home/foreign games between Division rivals. That would suck on one hand…on the other at least a Division rival would have to go through the same challenge of playing overseas. Of course they could never mess with the home folks like that.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:13 pm
Bonsai,
The nfl never cuts us slack.
LOL
We are a NFL farm team. There’s no such thing as slack. We’re the team the NFL uses as a tool to elevate bigger markets and their storied franchises.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:17 pm
If BA becomes coach I’ll spend all next year reposting the ridiculous comments you people make.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:23 pm
DBS,

if I can recall it was (pick one)
No running game, poor offensive line, missed kicks, and bad play calls. There were more but those were the most common. We always got excuses but never the solution to the real problem.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:25 pm
Looks like a tough one
The only gimme I see is Arizona.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:26 pm
Looking forward to being at the Bucs vs Rams game
December 31st, 2018 at 9:33 pm
Ndamukong Suh will probably be released by the Rams and become an UFA. Would he be worth pursuing or has he peaked and now regressing? I remember the comparisons between him and McCoy.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:38 pm
I don’t like it at all. Two west coast games and an f-ing “home” game overseas.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:43 pm
5-7 wins max
December 31st, 2018 at 9:56 pm
We should just go ahead and throw a firing party for the next poor sap in advance. Who says we should wait 2 years?
January 1st, 2019 at 2:55 am
Look I’m as jaded as the next Bucs fan. No, I don’t claim to be a fan since 76, I was born in 73 in Minnesota. I’ve been a fan since about ‘94. But all these guys that ONLY talk sh*t about the Bucs, I wanna ask you something. Are you really Bucs fans? Do you love this team, or do you just love to talk sh*t about them so you can feel witty? Cuz if that’s all you want, tell it to your wife so she can tell you how hot that take was. I’m so sick of these “woe is me” Bucs fans.
January 1st, 2019 at 4:15 am
Easy schedule
We can make the playoffs
January 1st, 2019 at 4:34 am
Lunchbox, I was a Buc’s fan before many posters on this board were likely born. And you were 5 when I went to my first game at Tampa stadium. And I have never posted a woe is me post. Fan vs zealot?
When Jason Licht became the Bucs’ general manager, Tampa Bay was the worst team in the NFC South. Five years later, the Bucs are still the worst team in the South
Updated resumes:
Licht = 27-53
Winston = 21-33
Since Malcolm’s Stroke = 77 – 131
New HC = 0-0 (but he will have to coach Licht’s picks)
January 1st, 2019 at 6:23 am
@Pete I … “New HC = 0-0 (but he will have to coach Licht’s picks).” And therein lies our REAL problem Pete. As of this moment, our Bucs team is loaded with 5-11 talent. That’s it … 5-11 talent. No coaching staff and a GM with a 27-53 track record over these past 5 years. We’re amazingly consistent BTW … we win just about 1 out of every 3 games that we play.
So the answer that we get from ownership to our cellar-dwelling woes is to find yet another scapegoat and jettison them, all the while keeping the Architect of this Mess to clean it up. Makes perfect sense to me. Only in Bucsville.
Aaah but hope springs eternal in Bucsville. EVERY year is the same … we either have a new coach & some new players & anticipate a BIG TURNAROUND or we get set to tough it out with the same coach & get some new players & oh ya, anticipate yet another BIG TURNAROUND. Rinse & repeat every 2-3 years.
Funny thing … still waiting for the BIG TURNAROUND. And no, most winning TEAMS don’t consider 9-7 to be a BIG TURNAROUND.
Bucs are a poorly constructed team … and that’s primarily on the GM. Great coaches can squeeze a little extra out of mediocre talent, but small is small, slow is slow & some players just have better skillsets than others. Bucs have some truly great players … just not enough of them. Look at some of the ‘role players’ who we played in Sunday’s game against the Falcons & the percentage of snaps that they got:
o Caleb Benenoch (OLine – 52%)
o Alex Cappa (OLine – 48%)
o Jacquizz Rodgers (RB – 41%)
o Jesus Wilson (WR – 23%)
o Javien Elliott (CB – 58%)
o Ryan Smith (CB – 49%)
o Devante Bond (LB – 42%)
o Isaiah Johnson (S – 40%)
o Will Gholston (DE – 39%)
o Jeremiah Ledbetter (DT – 22%)
o Noah Spence (DE – 14%)
o Ronald Jones (RB – 2%)
Anyone care to speculate how many of just those 12 ‘role players’ will be on the team next year? (I’m guessing 2-3 … but only if we’re serious about winning).
For even more fun, look at the players who started & played a high percentage of the snaps. Most (but certainly not all) of those will be ‘keepers’. Offensively 3 of our WRs were on the field much too much (ME13 – 84%; Godwin – 84%; Hump – 82%). Kinda provides a clue that Bucs are unbalanced when your primary WRs play almost the whole game? (Falcons 3 primary WRs played considerably less, and were probably a lot ‘fresher’ in the 2nd half?)
In any event, HOPE springs eternal. This Bucs fan is definitely looking forward to our next BIG TURNAROUND. Come on Jason, I’m confident you’ve got another 9-7 finish tucked in there someplace. I’m also confident that our new consulting firm that the Boyz hired to ‘help you’ will provide a very clear vision of who our Bucs team should become going forward. (Oops, danged sarcasm font snuck in there again).

Serious question.
What can’t the oversees game be both away games for the teams?
Why does a fan base HAVE to lose a home game. Seems like it would make more sense for both teams if it were one of their away games.
January 1st, 2019 at 7:37 am
Ndog says – “and Jameis will be pumped to make Derwin James pay for being overaggressive.” Lmao. You’re a comedian guy. Where does your extremely delusional and irrational, misplaced confidence come from? Go read the Peter king blog posts on PFT from Monday referencing how Derwin James has graded out. Not only is he going to win defensive rookie of the year, but only Jamal Adams has graded higher in the entire league. He’s already a top flight player at his position. You should probably consider whether or not they’d be scared of Jameis or the Bucs in general when they’re having to go through Patrick Mahomes twice a year. Let’s focus on wiping the stink and very well perception that we are the ultimate loser town. Fans don’t go to Bucs games, fans don’t go to Rays gams. We are a complete wasteland of a sports town

TheNorm: perhaps because certain teams like the Chargers, Jacksonville, AZ and the Bucs will make far more revenue for the NFL packing a full house Wembley as opposed to their half empty stadiums? But yeah, I agree with you, it seems like teams should be rewarded for going to London, thus make it a road game instead of ripping a home game. Plus the people who work at RJS on Sundays will appreciate not losing a day’s pay.
