Humphries: Bucs Have “Rhythm” Issues

December 18th, 2018

The Bucs offense has gone from slow starts and big finishes to crisp starts and horrible second halves.

It’s the sign of a poorly coached team and one with mental deficiencies.

Adam Humphries was asked about this issue last night on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

The fourth-year wide receiver said he feels the difference.

“I just feel like we’re not in the same rhythm as we are when we start the game,” Humphries said. “We’ve put a lot of emphasis on starting fast because early in the year we would come out, you know, first quarter and kind of be slow and not really get the start we wanted and get behind, you know, the score early. We’ve put emphasis on that and we tried to come out and start faster. But we’ve got to continue that momentum and keep playing good football all the way through the entire game.”

It’s been quite a shift for the offense, which has scored three total points in the second halves of the last two games.

Joe hopes the next head coach can fix this. It’s especially bizarre since Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, was a great second-half quarterback in college.

    More excuses?!

    People need to stop pretending like Jameis’ record in college means anything now. He’s played more NFL football than college football now and his production at the NFL level speaks for itself.

    Jameis has been a middle of the pack QB with turnover and accuracy issues through 4 years…..it is was it is.

    And people that say he had a good game yesterday need to expect more from a “franchise QB” (which he has not show that he is to date). A franchise QB puts the team on his back and wins games (and also doesn’t put the game out of reach early)

    I’m not a hater of Jameis I just can’t sit here and pretend like his draft status and potential mean anything 4 years in. Bucs fans deserve more

  4. Rod Munch Says:

    Halftime adjustments….

    Other teams do it, Dirk does not.

  5. ben Says:

    Winston scares a lot of teams with his slow release and not accurate long ball . America’s average qb at best !

  6. Rod Munch Says:

    The triggered Winston haters who said over and over and over again the most important thing, the only thing, is protecting the ball… well Winston does that and now it’s on to their next BS complaint.

    Winston haters are fake news. Do me a favor and build a wall between you and food and water and air. LOL!

  7. Loyaltotheend Says:

    Jameis is more of who he is in the nfl over what he was in that freshman anomaly season. That season was an outlier

    Look at the big picture, hard to argue with the facts. He just hasn’t progressed and developed like fans hoped

  8. LakeLand Says:

    There’s no “Garbage” yards when you’re leading

    Defenses step and lay the boom

    Instead of going prevent

  9. AlteredEgo Says:

    What were Jamyth’s own words after the game 2 weeks ago…..
    “I’ve got to get rid of the ball quicker”…..one of his many issues trying to play QB in the NFL….

  10. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

    Someone could very well overpay “The Hump” in the offseason. Suddenly the receiving corps looks more like a receiving corpse with DJax in Operation Shutdown mode, Godwin suddenly going Roberto Duran and Hump forced into the 2nd & 3rd receiver role.

  11. LakeLand Says:

    When teams are beating you by 20 points, they go to prevent defense

    But when the game is close

    They lower the boom

  12. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

    Bucs overall do not seem the same as when fitz was playing jameis just seems totally out of sync and can only throw to brate or hump….obv koetter knows the truth as do the offensive coaches and other teams defensive staff as they prepare for the game. Id love to hear what a coach has to say in regards to what its like to face jameis

  13. tmaxcon Says:

    rhythm can’t fix a roster with no talent

  14. Rod Munch Says:

    Duthsty Rhothdes – The team was losing by an average of 18 points a game under Fitz… but they were better. LOL! Yeah, OK.

    Meanwhile they beat the 49ers and Panthers fairly easily, then have the Saints down at halftime and go on the road to be down by 1 at Baltimore in really bad weather only to watch the Saints score 25 points on the defense in a half and to watch the Ravens completely control the 2nd half by running the ball (Bucs 47 plays, Ravens 74 plays).

    Anywho the team is fine – they’re just not as good as the Saints (obviously) or the Ravens on the road, but they’re better than the Panthers right now, and much better than the 49ers.

    Yeah, that’s about right.

    I dont have an issue with the whole “JW has not developed” theory.
    BUT
    Is this who he is?
    OR
    Is it a lack of coaching and bad scheme?

  16. brooks55hof Says:

    @tmax Bullseye. You forget to mention that we have no talent in the GM and head coach department either

    Humphries: Bucs Have “Rhythm” Issues

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Meaning they can’t play drums?
  18. Rod Munch Says:
    LOL! The hole JW hasn’t developed BS is BS.
    He’s played two games in a row in the rain, obvious with Baltimore being constant rain as opposed to NO with early and light ran, he had WR’s dropping balls all over the place the last two weeks, he’s missing OJ and D-Jax, and he’s just played probably the two hottest defenses in football – yet still had the team in both games only to watch terrible coaching not adjust anything at halftime and watch the defense collapse.
    But yeah, it’s on Jameis, and proves he’s awful.
    LOL!
    Fake news.
  19. Defense Rules Says:
    @Rod Munch … “Winston haters are fake news. Do me a favor and build a wall between you and food and water and air. LOL!” Rod, if you find that funny, you need help.
  20. AlteredEgo Says:
    Rod’s ancestry has direct links to the flat earth believers… I do admire his loyalty…shush….don’t tell him Santa is not real…I’ve been a Bucs fan since walking into the 1 st preseason game back in the day….I’d love to see Jameis as I’d hoped he’d grow into…the guy has so many flaws after 4 years odds of him over coming are doubtful
  21. ben Says:
    Rod , I do admire you for sticking up for neighbor, buddy or relative, Winston no matter how bad he plays.
  22. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:
    Rod you are out of your skull….winston is another trent dilfer…as stated above what has winston done outside that one ridiculous year at FSU, nothing….he cannot throw a deep ball to save his life and as lakeland stated above getting yards against the prevent defenses the bucs usually see means jacksquat. He looked like a rookie last week against bmore. He beat the worst team in the nfl in san fran and beat another loser in carolina…I can give you one signature win of jameis…it was last year against the saints and that ultimately cost the bucs a generational player…take jameis off the bucs and they are 6-10 same as they are with him
  23. Defense Rules Says:
    @Humphries … “We’ve put emphasis on that and we tried to come out and start faster. But we’ve got to continue that momentum and keep playing good football all the way through the entire game.” Someone needs to tell our offense that it’s a matter of being CONSISTENT, as well as taking advantage of opportunities as they arise. Good teams improve as the year rolls along. The Bucs? Not so much. And it’s been going on for a long time if you look back at our Win-Loss records for past Decembers.
    Personally I think a big part of that is having something to play for in Decembers, other than ‘playing for the coach’ or ‘playing for each other’. How about ‘playing to win the division’ or ‘playing for a wildcard slot’?
    Another big part IMO is that this team lacks confidence … confidence in the coaching, as well as confidence in each other. They seem to keep waiting for ‘the other shoe to drop’ so to speak. Waiting for someone to screw up … which happens far too often, as a result of a turnover, or a penalty, or a dropped pass, or a missed FG, or whatever. They just seem to lack the confidence as a TEAM that says ‘Hey, we’ve got this; no sweat.’ Compare this team these last few weeks with the one that took the field against New Orleans in Game 1. They were scoring at will. Yes our defense gave up a lot of points, but our offense had the confidence to keep pounding on the Saints and striking back. I’m not seeing any of that now, even though the offensive players are pretty much the same. Nothing left to play for I guess.
  24. Dlavid Says:
    All this debate and back & forth bantor is futile . Fact is we are at the same s##t hole again at the end of another pathetic season . We are in the ‘83-‘96 era all over again . That was more tolerable due to the fact that no Buc team had won a Super Bowl nor sustained a continuing winning era . Till we get another Dungy who can turn this franchise around by his own will this crap show continues . The Glazers are under pressure to do this correctly for a change !
  25. Joel Says:
    #10 is gone after this season. He’ll go play for a winner.
  26. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    ^^ Hate to say it , Joel, but you may be right. He has PATRIOTS written all over him. Hopefully he will be back here in TB.
  27. D-Rome Says:
    Every time I hear a player talk about rhythm, the song “Rhythm of the Night” by DeBarge pops in my head and then I start dancing.
  28. Rod Munch Says:
    The white WR might go to the Patriots, wow, what amazing insight. Thanks for sharing, first time I heard someone bring that up.
    Anywho the Pats aren’t going to pay him like a #2 or even a high end #3, so if he did go there it’s because his stock is not as high as people think. He’s an excellent 4th WR in THIS offense, but in a spread offense like the Pats run he can put up numbers. Only issue is you have to deal with season ending fumbles and fumbled punt returns putting you at the 1 yard line. But if they don’t use him to return punts and he can not fumble games away then he’s br a good fit.
  29. Rod Munch Says:
    Defense Rules – when did you become part of the words hurt cupcake brigade? Lighten up tenderfoot.
  31. LakeLand Says:
    Rod Munch
    I totally agree
    The Patriots are not dumb enough to pay big bucks to a WR
    They get them a dime a dozen
  32. Fire Light Says:
    Humphries rhythm is off when he has to be the man. He’s great with a healthy Evans, Godwin, and Howard… but he sucks without them. Wonder if he was in rhythm when he fumbled away the season last year in Buffalo… Bumphries
    Rod Munch Says:
    “The white WR might go to the Patriots, wow, what amazing insight. Thanks for sharing, first time I heard someone bring that up. ”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    No need for the sarcasm, Rod. You brought up white, and I have never mentioned him going to the Patriots before. Edelman is slowing down and Humphries is precisely the type of quick burst route runner that Bill likes. Sorry it hit a nerve for some reason.

  34. AlteredEgo Says:

    The QB the Bucs draft with their first pick next April will be able to hit him on time with quick slants

  35. Defense Rules Says:

    @Rod Munch … “Lighten up tenderfoot.” You obviously still don’t get it.

  36. Alanbucsfan Says:

    The injuries to DJax and Howard and keeping Rojo on the bench means this team offensively has zero speed on the field , and couple that with Koetter being outcoached in 2nd halves = no production.
    Jameis is good at buying time with this leaky OL, but nobody is open… except Evans occasionally.

  37. SOEbuc Says:

    Going to repeat a quote I made yesterday.

    “Jameis is 24 years old 4 years into the game and only has been coached by a coach this fan base wants sliced and diced and put on a meat hook in two weeks.”

    Glazers have invested a lot in Jameis and into the offense. One can hope they’re gonna invest in a very good offensive HC or OC with experience and good records. They need to find a great DC. If it’s a no go for him in 2019, Sam Ehlinger in 2020.

  38. AlteredEgo Says:

    SOE….accuracy has nothing to do with time in the NFL…all the other flaws in his game can be improved with experience…..

  39. SG Says:

    Just dont go into the locker room at the half time and pretend playing on the field

  40. Rod Munch Says:

    Defense – wow man, that’s deep, almost as deep as the hole you dug for yourself when you said the secondary would do great with Ryan Smith and Chris Conte starting. LOL!

    Lighten up Frances.

  41. Rod Munch Says:

    Tampa Bay Demon – I’ve literally heard the Patriots thing for literally years now. Literally. Might have been the first time you thought of it, but, heard it, for years, literally.

    Anywho sarcasm is my bit, if you take that away from me, then what… …. then what!?! No, it won’t happen, not today, not ever.

  43. bucanation Says:

    No rhythm is what this coach is calling he puts this team in bad situations all game long and this coach is in the middle of everything wrong with this team /except the defense where he said he doesn’t get involved wow .

    Rod Munch,

    I guess a “Fancy Man” really prefers to say anywho instead of anyhow.
    It definitely sets you apart from the common crowd.
    You definitely sound smarter than the rest of us common fans……
    I mean, up until the point when you start knob-slobbing all over #3!
    ………. but anywho, I digress.

    You are obviously a genius.

  48. down in the dirt Doug Says:

    Jameis is an average quarterback with below average results.We must see if different coaches get wins with Jameis.Select a quarterback in the third round or trade for one.Make Jameis earn his starts next year.Let’s hope we get a new gm that will realize that we must trade some of our weapons to improve the team.

  49. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Haha, fair enough Rod Munch. Cheers!

  50. orlbucfan Says:

    P#ss on the Patriots. Biggest problem is Koetter hasn’t gotten a handle on being a HC. He gets canned, who will finish completing this Offense? BTW, it’s the best one Bucs have ever had.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

    Dooshlarue – Thank you and God bless!
