Bucs veteran right tackle Demar Dotson is as good of a man and a teammate as there is in the Bucs locker room. So when he said dudes are going to start looking out for No. 1, including himself, you know things are bad.
In a video shared by Kevin O’Donnell of WTVT-TV, Channel 13, Dotson is seen below answering a question from Joe about whether the team might start playing for Dirk Koetter’s job. Dotson explains it’s “Every man for himself at this moment” on the Bucs, adding, “I’m not worried about saving Dirk’s job. I’m worried about saving my own.”
By all appearances, it sure looks like Koetter is a dead man walking.

He’s a right tackle, he can’t do anything to help Dirk Koetter keep his job except by saving his own job

Its all about securing a top 10 draft pick for the new regime next year. Bucs will likely lose to a desperate Dallas team and then its the battle for the basement against the ATL who just might be tanking for high draft pick as well. 5 dash 11 or 6 dash 10…… Hell its like the late 80s again and watching a Ray Perkins Buc team which was lacking talent due to poor ownership while Dirk and Licht can not use the Glazers as an excuse though the lads have made 4 straight poor hires at HC. Hopefully hire number 5 is the charm….

Hopefully hire number 5 is the charm.” Haven’t heard that term … The Lads … in a looong time. (If I remember right, Higgins on the original ‘Magnum PI’ TV show used to call his 2 Dobermans that). Appropriate timing too … that show ran during Ray Perkins time here. Love it FortMyersDave.
Personally hope however that these players give it all they’ve got for these last 2 games. The only REAL remaining question to me is ‘Who should be asked to come back next year?’. Quitters need not apply. If they quit once, they’ll quit again when the going gets tough.

I don’t know why this point is escaping other people. The best way that he can save Koetter’s job is to save his own and play to the best of his ability. It’s not like he’s suggesting that everyone on the team go rogue.
This is nothing new. Players always have, and always will, play for themselves first. If they didn’t then every year you would have players requesting to restructure their contract to be paid less so the team can sign better guys. It’s no different on the Patriots either. In fact, they demand that the players do their job and stick to their roles. That’s how they play for each other!

Dallas by 2 jerry worlds on sunday…….how about the cleveland browns, now there is a franchise on the come…young solid defense and then a QB, RB, WRs…..someone is building that team right…they can throw money at OL now and watch out….and the bucs are 2-3 years away and probably a qb away

If I was the GM, that is all it would take for me to dump Dotson and start a younger player. I get the whole saving your job thing, but you don’t say that publicly.

Sounds like someone is still holding on to those first two wins of the season and apparently think Fitz got benched for no reason. This offense has been on the downslope ever since the league figured Koetter out and it took two games. Koetter is trash and has no imagination. Lol guess I should have known there are random people who think Fitz is good, guess those fans watch on those old small tv’s and can only see those few bombs he threw

why are ppl upset about the things he is saying.. if your job was being taken over by new management and you didn’t want to pack up all your belongings to start over in a new city wouldn’t you make sure you are putting your best foot forward the last couple games to make sure new management sees what they have in you? so many commentators on here do not understand football as a whole. getting to the point where i don’t even want to read the comments anymore.

Actually Jameis has been playing his best ball in a long time since the SF game. Using his running skills and playing smarter which has resulted in a lot less turnovers. People are such idiots when they put it all on Jameis. Tell me a great QB that never had a decent o-line cus that’s far from what the Bucs have. Only took Koetter 4 1/2 years to get Jameis playing like he is and Dirk might have a chance for another year if his playbook wasn’t so basic and obvious to defenses.
Classic Koetter: “Okay guys. We’re 3rd and 2 inside the five with the entire defense in the box. We’re gonna run it up the middle into a brick wall.” Dumba$$ has been calling that obvious play since the first day he got here.

Not giving Dot any sh!t on this. He knows we’re not going to the playoffs. Knows there is a good chance of him being let go next year. He’s going to turn 34 and has been one of the better o-lineman since he got here. And his entire offensive coaching staff if not the organization is extremely close to being wiped out. I’m playing for myself and my new job somewhere else, also.

He might be a good man but that is 100% irrelevant when you are a professional who SUCKS at his job. Dotson had Never been good and he is clearly the cancer93 of the offense…coleader of the losing culture. dotson like so many bucs are garbage players but loose quietly which is a trait that low standard bucfan loves.

Dotson is only saying what every player really thinks. It’s only you rubes who live in dream world that believe players play hard for their coach. They play to have a job in the NFL, and provide for their families. They could care less about what happens to any of their coaches, or team mates, or the city they live in. TEll it like it is Brother Dotson! There is a lot to be said for comraderie..sticking together for the common goof. But when that MAYDAY call goes out..and the ship is sinking? He’s right, its every man for himself. I like his thinking because not everybody will be back next year. So you gotta save yourself. Its kinda like that in life also. No matter how much togetherness BS Society preaches, When its nutcuttin time its..EVEY MAN FOR HIMSELF baby!!!

Sadly I do believe that what DOT is far too polite to elaborate on…. is that it is time for him to stop trying to cover for Benenoch on every play and just focus on RT from here out.
