Buccaneers Listed As One Of Five Locks For A Head Coaching Change

December 15th, 2018

The scent of coaching change in the Tampa air wasn’t washed away by all this rain.

And an NFL insider on the trail of doomed head coaches was very clear about that yesterday afternoon on national radio.

Former Redskins beat writer and NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora, who is now at CBS Sports, wrote a very interesting piece about NFL head coaching candidates this week. And he followed that up yesterday on CBS Sports Radio.

Apparently, La Canfora is talking to team executives and is working on a new report on upcoming firings across the NFL.

Where do the following teams stand on firing/hiring head coaches in a matter of days?

Here’s how La Canfora laid it out:

Jets: Yes
Cleveland: Yes
Tampa Bay: Yes
Jacksonville: Yes
Arizona: Yes

Denver: Leaning yes

Carolina: Maybe
Baltimore: Maybe
Cincinnati: Maybe
Redskins: Doubtful
Atlanta: No

That’s a lot potential vacancies, and don’t forget Green Bay, which already gassed Mike McCarthy. Joe agrees with La Canfora on the Browns soon moving on from interim head coach Gregg Williams, despite his early success.

Yes, Joe assumes Dirk Koetter will be fired. He’s 11-21 since the Bucs’ five-game winning streak in 2016. That’s an inescapable, two-season body of work.

Imagine if there are eight head coaching vacancies in 16 short days. Team Glazer is going to require a very clear plan of attack, one that should be in the crafting stages now.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Man, that is really well said, and a bit scary. I just don’t know if they have the ability to so concisely put together that clear plan of attack and go get the right guy. – Sigh….
    Out of respect to Dirk, obviously he is still here and we are just pontificating… but you are correct JOE that if the Glazers know what they are going to do, they need to GET AFTER IT behind the scenes……… NOW.
  2. OneBuc55 Says:
    My personal preference for our next HC would be an defensive guru…
    Imo we need someone who can obviously get the most out of our defensive personnel for 1…and secondly, someone who understands the importance of a solid running game…
  3. DBS Says:
    History shows they don’t have any idea what they are doing. And just look at all the other places coaches would want to go other than Tampa. Why would you want to come to a team where you need to keep a U-Haul in your driveway?
  4. tmaxcon Says:
    That is a lot of vacancies and with the Bucs being the least desirable franchise in pro sports coupled with a limited number of quality candidates this year, you can count on one thing bucs will get a garbage coach and the low standard buc fan will spend all offseason telling us realists that this is the year…. but once again week 4 will roll around and we will get nut-punched then week 8 or 10 back to the draft…. It’s a buclife…. bucs have ZERO chance to land any coach with an option and you people down deep understand this… worst job in pro sports is working for a glazer on either continent
  5. First Down Tampa Bay Says:
    The good news is, aside from maybe Cleveland and Carolina, we are easily the most attractive name on this list. Young QB, great offense already in place (minus RB), and some core talent on defense.
    The pieces are in place, we just need a coach who can arrange them to make the right picture. We just need our Sean McVay, or our Matt Nagy, or our Anthony Lynn. Those teams sucked for YEARS and now they’re among the best in the NFL.
    Our time will come.
  6. Bb Says:
    8-8 and he stays
  7. Kobe Faker Says:
    “The next Head Coach must be secure of himself, confident in his abilities and ability to build the best coaching staff THAT IS BEST FOR THE TEAM
    The greatest coaches in the NFL is graded from the success of his coaches underneath him(Even Belicheat coaches are finally getting success)
    Klueless is an INSECURE and STUBBORN potatoe head. For the 1st 2 years he didnt even have an offensive coordinator. Kluelesss flawed insecure personality will never make him a competent leader. CONSISTENT DECISION MAKING is something he knows nothing of
    John Harbaugh is the perfect Head Coach for thr Tampa Bay Bucs. A leader of men, secure in himself to acquire the best coaches and confident to have them recieve the praises…..
    NO WAY IN HELL WILL HE EVEN THINK ABOUT COMING TO YUC LAND
    Harbaugh will be hired in 24hours IF baltimore is stupid enough to fire him”
    be careful Sir you can get baker acted for making statements like this…. you know damn well Tampa is the least desirable location in all of the pro sports… your nice weather and no taxes are attractive to retirees not winners, great athletes or young talented free agents. What else do they have, well let’s see; owners who can’t build a team, front office with no balls, coaches with no brains and teammates that quit on coaches… Not to mention the worst winning percentage in pro sports history with 2 good seasons in 42 McKay’s run and gurdens’s glory year was the only time this team actually had a damn chance…. I have not even gotten to this pathetic roster you call attractive…. If these fools were half as talented as you low standard bucfan suggest they would not have spent nearly 2 decades in the basement embarrassing themselves and that fraud of dt clown cancer93 would not have captained more blowouts than any other buc captain in team history which says a lot given the pathetic winning percentage…. Reality is truly a beotch ladies and gentlemen… digest the facts before spouting off stupid statements that might get you locked up…
    coaching in Tampa is career suicide and the last 16 years have proven this beyond a shadow of a doubt. Yes the job will get filled and yes there is a lot of money in play but a true winner will run fast and hard away from this crapshow of a franchise… you can’t rewrite history because someone told you being a delusional optimist was the way to go… reality my friends. reality
  9. Dooshlarue Says:
    I made this observation last year when we thought Koetter was gonna get canned.
    It really is a Black and White decision.
    Going back to:
    Saw Wyche, White
    Tony Dungy, Black
    Jon Gruden, White
    Raheem Morris, Black
    Greg Schiano, White
    Lovie Smith, Black
    Dirk Koetter, White
    So if the Glazers hold true to this pattern, I’d say the HC candidates get easier to pick…..unless of course they surprise us all with that Spicy Riverboat Ron Rivera!
  10. Defense Rules Says:
    @Joe … “Imagine if there are eight head coaching vacancies in 16 short days. Team Glazer is going to require a very clear plan of attack, one that should be in the crafting stages now.” Oh wow Joe, you just threw me for a loop. It never dawned on me that the Bucs would have so much competition for hiring a competent staff before the new year even begins. Let me see if I can put this tactfully: Knowing the Glazer Boyz track record (Dom, Raheem, Schiano, Lovie, Licht & Dirk), we’re screwed. Ya, that’s about as tactful as I feel right now.
    It’s also going to put pressure on the Glazers to tread softly (conservatively) rather than ‘blow it up’. Which will pretty much guarantee more years of mediocrity & frustration IMO (especially if they retain Licht). And that’s why this ownership ‘committee’ so desperately needs a REAL President of Football Operations (and sorry, but we disagree that Lovie’s Lapdog fills that role). I’m hoping that the Boyz hire a REAL football mind to create a vision for this franchise. Ya, Bruce Arians or Tony Dungy would do just fine, but there are also a number of other highly-experienced NFL ‘executive-types’ out there I’m confident who’d love to tackle the ‘challenge’ that is the Bucs.
  11. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Kobe says
    “NO WAY IN HELL WILL (John Harbaugh) EVEN THINK ABOUT COMING”
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    That is where we part. I just don’t agree that he (or any number of other good coaches) would not want to coach here. Tampa Bay is a fantastic place to be. And the Bucs are a team & fan base that is just WAITING to be risen from the ashes again.

  12. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    @Dooshlarue

    Haha, that is CRAZY man. I can’t believe I never noticed that before.
    So with that…. any chance Mike Tomlin becomes available?

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    If Jason La Canfora is talking with team executives, that would mean Jason, right?

    Do you really believe Jason would open his mouth like that? Get real. Jason La Canfora is voicing his opinions and playing the odds, nothing more.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    “Imagine if there are eight head coaching vacancies in 16 short days. Team Glazer is going to require a very clear plan of attack, one that should be in the crafting stages now.” – J0E

    They could target Jim Harbaugh before the end of the season.

    Whoever they get has to be a huge name with a huge chance of success. Otherwise, keep Koetter.

    Kris Richard is not going to do it. HE has done nothing to earn a head coaching gig. Really, nearly all of the names mentioned have not earned it. Fans are grasping at straws.

    Here’s how I view things:

    IF we are absolutely going to make a change, then make it the right one. Don’t go with another hopeful rookie head coach. Don’t go with an old fart who MIGHT still have the touch. Don’t go with a guy who has gone 50-40 as a head coach.

    Make it a surefire winner. Someone who absolutely will not fail us. We deserve to win.

    Remember Sam Wyche? He brought in the makings of a great defense, then Dungy came in and made it great.

    Koetter made a great offense. What we need now is someone to finish making the team great. Gruden took the team over the edge his first year. We need someone who can do the same now.

    We just have to make sure whoever it is does not tear the offense apart in order to build the defense.

  15. Conte Piscatelli Says:

    Every team on that list is a more desirable vacancy than Tampa. Our dysfunctional ownership and football Siberia reputation mean we will be lucky to get a coach that couldn’t make it on an AAF team. Quit dreaming about to coaching candidates and get in line with the evitable has been/never was we will make a last minute choice of after being rejected by all the top tier options.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Dooshlarue, Glazers didn’t hire Sam.

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Conte Piscatelli Says
    “Every team on that list is a more desirable vacancy than Tampa.”

    I completely disagree with that.

    Tampa has the number one offense in the NFL. That means something.

  18. TOM Says:

    No college coaches especially Saban or Jim (can’t beat Ohio State) Harbough. Fangio sounds good to me. Knowing the Glazers they’ll wait and end up taking whats left. I don’t know but the interim coach of the Browns seems to be doing a pretty good job.

  19. Dooshlarue Says:

    Good catch Bonzai, pattern still about the same though.

  20. tickrdr Says:

    My vote would be for Vic Fangio, the current defensive coordinator for the Bears.
    He is 60 years old, and may not want to consider a head coaching job. The Bears defense was ranked 30th the year before he took over, and since then has been 14th, 15th, and 10th before this year’s dominating defense. They beat the Rams recently by a score of 15-6, which in the modern pass-happy NFL seems amazing to me. Plus, they run a 3-4 defense, which makes Gerald McCoy expendable.
    (Who wears a bathrobe/kimono on their first day back to work after vacation???)

  21. Ready2bucit Says:

    A serious question to all you fellow ” real ” bucs fans out there . Some of you say we are going to have a hard time getting a quality coach to come here when so many other jobs will be available to take besides the bucs…my question is , don’t you think Mike Tomlin would love to have an opportunity here to get us back to playing ” good ” buc ball ? I say if Pitt let’s him go , he would absolutely love to get the job done here…I’m not really sure exactly what kind of coach he truly is & I’m not sure if there is someone else out there that would truly be better for us. That’s why I agree with you ones on here saying the brothers have failed time and time again with the task of bringing in the right guy & so we need a head of football operations to mold the team as he sees fit with a great plan in place on how to get there ! We see John Lynch get a shot to do his thing in San Francisco & I would love to have say Brooks who should know how to build a team with great defence & solid running game go out and find a GM to work togeather with in making his plan work…I think a guy like John Dorsey has done a great job finding talent in the draft and turning around Cleveland..get a guy like Brooks in , have him find his GM and both go get a coach install their plan and run it to a T !..sounds much better to me than another year with coach Idaho potato Head or another year trusting the Glazer’s to finally get it right..they either try and make a splash the wrong way for the wrong reasons or they don’t want to spend and go the cheap route…I want to go the right route !

  22. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    If you think someone as desperate for a job as a coach looking to become a HC (of which there are only 32 positions available in the entire world) cares even SLIGHTLY about the team’s legacy and past failures you’re delusional. ANY unemployed coach in football would line up for this job, no matter if the Bucs hadn’t won a game in 5 years. But regarding my statement about being the most attractive team on the list, that statement is 100% true with the current state of the team. There’s no way you can look at the Jets or the Cardinals and say that someone would inherit that team over this one. Like I said, this team already the core of the roster built. Set at QB, TE, and WR. What more could you ask for than the best offense in the NFL? The OLine just needs a few plugs and it’ll be fine.

    The defense certainly has building blocks in place with a TOP 3 DT in Gerald McCoy, raw prospect Vita Vea, high motor Carl Nassib and monster JPP. Alexander shows promise as a LB whether that be as a MLB or not, Beckwith was great in his rookie year and could even take over as MLB at full health, and Lavonte David is a consistent top 5 LB every year. Carlton Davis has shown signs of promise, and we’ve yet to see what a fully unleashed Vernon Hargreaves can do. Jordan Whitehead has played well in his rookie year, and although it seems Justin Evans has regressed a little, he showed signs of promise as a rookie.

    My statement still holds true: If Dirk was fired today, this could be arguably the most attractive job on the market. The pieces are in place, we just need a coach who can arrange them into the right picture.

  23. tickrdr Says:

    BTW: The Bears have gotten 34 takeaways already this year!!

  24. StoutGospel Says:

    Well LaCanfora sure ain’t Schefter, and he’s not even Florio, or even Jay Glazer. Those are folks who would know, more accurately and sooner for sure. But he might be better than Rapoport, sheesh.

    Taking the content stipulated as is….come on down John Harbaugh!!! The minute that Bisciotti wants to find an offensive savant for Jackson’s tutelage going forward. 5 year deal at $30 million for John Harbaugh, and allow Monken to interview for OC along with Harbaugh’s other OC and GM candidates. Harbaugh will solve the defense A-Z (with his chosen staff), so not point in Duffner here anymore.

    Go Get John Harbaugh!

  25. Conte Piscatelli Says:

    First down Tampa Bay

    I’m sorry but no every coach isn’t desperate for a head coaching gig, see Josh McDaniels last season. Coaches are looking for good opportunities, at least the in demand coaches are. Let’s look at the last few coaches we have had. Morris, hasn’t sniffed another head coaching job, Schiano, college defensive coordinator who was run out of a college head coaching position before he started. Lovie had a job because he has name recognition in Illinois. Don’t think Dirk will get another head coaching chance either. Ownership cuts bait quickly around here and hasn’t been known to set anyone up for success. Let’s look at our two most successful coaches, Dungy wasn’t paying up a head coaching position because he was a black coach at a time that nobody hired black coaches (good on Malcom) and we traded 2 first round picks for Gruden, because we couldn’t even attract a top tier coach during our golden years. As for our to rated offense being a lure, let’s not forget the organization hasn’t made a long term decision on Winston. Any new head coach could find themselves in the Petrino in Atlanta situation, where your supposed franchise QB is gone before you start. Sorry I love my Bucs, but I’m not wearing pewter lenses.

  26. tmaxcon Says:

    First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    you lost all credibility call that clown cancer93 a top 3 dt when you know damn well he is mid pack to average period… he is a quitter. raise your standards man… it’s pathetic to support a career loser. cancer93 has never been a top 3 anything… nothing more than the face of the basement years and the captain of more blowouts than any nfl player in history.

  27. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Tmax

    I will give you Suh and Cox, but I challenge you to name someone who is a better DT than Gerald. (Note: Aaron Donald plays in a 3-4 and gets the majority of snaps at DE so he is ineligible).

  28. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Conte

    But who’s to say this ISN’T a good opportunity? As far as incoming coaches go, what is in place now is really all you can ask for as a new HC. The number one offense in the NFL? Check. A good, young QB? Check. Top 5 WR in the NFL? Check. One of, if not THE best TE duo in the league? Check. Not to mention, several promising players on defense.

    This is a perfect scenario to enter. What more could you want?

  29. Conte Piscatelli Says:

    First down

    You could want a competent owner and front office that doesn’t have a history of pulling a quick trigger, a home stadium that doesn’t feel like a road game in a division 2 college conference, a stable quarterback situation, anything resembling a running game, oh and the potential salary cap hell this team may find themselves in if they resign some of that “talent” to questionable contacts.

  30. Mike Johnson Says:

    Lookayear, We hope..the Glazers are smart. But we know different. They should already have a bead on who they want and have already contacted them. Don’t give me this crap about NFL rules and not contacting coaches prior to seasons ending. The smart franchises know how to do it. Many coaches might not want to come here so I hope The Glazers are smart to do what has to be done.

  31. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Conte

    To be honest, the Glazers get too much heat. They do what good owners do and stay out of the spotlight and don’t meddle with the GM’s doing. There is no divide between ownership and management like in a lot of other teams, and they certainly don’t put themselves in national headlines for all the wrong reasons and embarrass themselves, so for that we can be thankful.

    And as far as the stadium goes: If you win, they will come. It’s no secret that Florida has a lot of fair-weather fans, whether it’s the Bucs, Rays, Marlins, Heat, Dolphins, Jags, etc. Just win, and they will come.

  32. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

    La Can’tFora is about as accurate as a Buc kicker…so pound of salt with this tasty morsel. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Arthur Blank Check doesn’t make a move. Tough for a Quinn to ever recover from a blown 25 point lead in the second half of a Super Bowl.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    From my HC options post:

    Jim Harbaugh, HC, Michigan
    Harbaugh was the head coach at Stanford from 2007-2010 before making the big jump to the NFL. He took over the San Francisco 49ers and led them to a Super Bowl birth in 2012, but did not have enough success after that for people to put up with his reported antics and style of managing a team. So back to college he went as he has been the head coach for the Michigan Wolverines since 2015. He has a college head coaching record of 95–39, and an NFL record of 44-19.
    Let’s consider his NFL run with the 49ers:

    Year 1 – 13-3. Lost to New York Giants in NFC Championship Game.
    Year 2 – 11-4. Lost to Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII
    Year 3 – 12-4. Lost to Seattle Seahawks in NFC Championship Game
    Year 4 – 8-8. Left the NFL.

    In the eight seasons before Harbaugh arrived in 2011, the 49ers hadn’t had a single winning season and were a cumulative 46-82. In the two seasons after he left, the 49ers went 7-25. Successful and dynamic head coaches don’t come along all the time. The 49ers chose to boot Harbaugh and run with GM Trent Baalke, who they ended up firing 2 years later. Clearly they backed the wrong guy. Some Tampa fans might look at the situation he had with the 49ers and imagine he is hard to work with, much like people said Greg Schiano was hard to work with. But the difference of opinion was between he and Baalke, and doing it Baalke’s way was the wrong way. The 49ers fell apart after Jim Harbaugh left.

    What would be the benefits though? Outside of a Head Coaching total record of 139-58? The front office did not like him, but his players swore by Jim Harbaugh. He helped a young QB make a Superbowl run…a QB who has proven out to be not so good. Yet Harbaugh made him play well for him. Buccaneers players would love him, respect him, and he would not let them get away with anything less than 100%.

    Best of all, the Glazers could feel him out before firing Koetter.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Also, since John Harbaugh might get fire, he would probably come over with Jim.

  35. tmaxcon Says:

    Harbaugh would not even take the glazers phone call– lol

    Would you throw away a career for a small town meaningless franchise with no future… Harbaugh is a winner because he does not make bad choices. Working for bucs is worst choice anyone could ever make.

    bonzi you truly don’t believe this small market circus ran by incompetent fools like glazers will get a coach who has choices to come to this sh^^t show…

    the only 2 coaches worth a crap every to work in Tampa mckay and gruden and one was traded for.

  36. Alanbucsfan Says:

    They need to hire a head coach that doesn’t put up with lack of execution.

    When Duffner took over defense, players were brought in at linebackers and secondary positions and the results have been improved play.
    Koetter’s offense runs the same garbage OLine players, same garbage offensive coaches- they have lost Howard and DJax (who stretches the secondary coverage and makes other receivers more effective) and since they don’t have a running game, this offense is becoming mediocre – 21pts/game last 5 games.

    Saints beat them mentally more than anything in 2nd half- penalties, receivers not open, no run game, OLine was dominated – with no fight and no answer.

  37. Bucko40 Says:

    I really hope the Bucs interview George Edwards the Defensive Coordinator for the Vikings. He has a long history as a defensive mind. Might be his time for a Head coaching shot.

  38. tmaxcon Says:

    bonzi neither Harbaugh would take a glazer phone call you fool…. this is the worst job on planet earth next to cleaning out Obama’s depends.

  39. tmaxcon Says:

    the only positive to coaching bucs is you can make the ring of underachievement without accomplishing anything that matters. just like what dungy the clown proved with his pathetic 2 playoff wins in 6 years— r outside of selmon and sapp the ring of underachievement would make a nice team of backups for real nfl franchises.

  40. down in the dirt Doug Says:

    OK-Coach Koeter–put on your big boy pants!!Time to stay up all night and come up with some plays that will help our team win.The crystal ball says—there is no tomorrow.Win now or take your ball and go home.

  41. AlteredEgo Says:

    No way …it would be a disaster to bring in a new coach for Jamyth and expect him to improve next year…K&L& Jamyth will ALL be back for 2109…..

  42. adam from ny Says:

    tmaxcon:

    do you even lift bro? 🙂

  43. tmaxcon Says:

    I’m a master of the 12oz curl and have been known to compete at a national level at 1 ounce shots… so yes i lift…. realirt hurts this world needs people like me to offset the blind delusional optimists living in safe spaces far from reality…. truth hurts but living in denial is truly sad…believe me I’d rather be wrong but glazers prove me right with every basement title and bad choice year after year

  44. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Some people on here act like there’s a head coach out there that could take the Plant Panthers and make them a competitor in the NFL. Football is really this simple, the team with the best players will win. Yes, good coaching is important but having good players trumps that by a mile, it’s not even close.

    So let’s blindly fire the head coach and ignore the real problem…the lack of talent on defense.

  45. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

    Steve Wilks only gets one year with the Cardinals? The pressure on their next coach will be insane.

  46. D1QB Says:

    Tampa bay,

    Not to yellow rain on your parade but if you look back at the franchise’s head coaching vacancies, there’s has been some well known highly respected candidates that came very very close to taking the job. Unfortunately, something happens when these guys reach out to their peers and ask for their opinion.
    It’s happened more than once with different coaches over a period of time spanning both ownership groups.

    There’s a negative associated with this team that has made coaches turn down millions of dollars, lovely Tampa bay and whatever else you see as a plus to remain Unemployed.

    The only high profile coach in the team’s history , high profile meaning some other teams would have wanted him, wasn’t lured to Tampa with the loaded team ready to compete for a super bowl, nor unlimited beer and wings at hooters, not a huge salary. No He was traded for. Think about that…The only big deal guy …we’ve had…never choose to be here.

    So what may I ask is different now?
    Before you answer, The Team is not loaded, Winston is not attractive to the vast majority of coaches and if He is …then his cap hit next year and how it will limit the team’s roster …is not a selling point. The roster isn’t a selling point..for that matter. It’s constructed from the outside in…….

    If you have a little light shining left, let me stamp it out with this……The NYJ is a far better job for just being in NY. That’s all it takes to be better. You’re probably thinking.. who’d want to live up there………which is why your living at the bottom filter for the east coast. Because it is not about living it’s about work and opportunities to make money. What big deal does the HC of Tampa get…buddy buy rite…or one of those custom rim and tire buy here pay here..
    There’s nothing in Tampa bay …and the national media ignores Florida and their own grandparents who live on the east coast.

    Florida is where you retire. If you’re not retired, you’re either lazy, lack ambition or just plain ole can’t run with the gorillas. True or not it’s a widely held perception. And that’s not a selling point.
    I exclude Miami from that to a large degree. Because it is Miami.

  47. Dooshlarue Says:

    I sure miss Reality-is-a-beotch…..he was kinda like tmax but slightly less pathetic.
    I wonder what ever happened to that guy?

  48. SOEbuc Says:

    Don’t know why these people talking about good coaches that don’t want to come here. First off it’s about 90% of what kind of money is offered. Bucs have tons more good and promising players than any of these other teams that are no doubt firing coaches.

    -The Sunshine State
    -No state income tax
    -Tampa is becoming well known for it’s low rent cost. Can get your $3 million apartment for less for less than a $5 million condo that looks alike.

    And like said before, we have a good team of players we just have never had a good coaching staff to show them the way.

  49. orlbucfan Says:

    I’m still wondering what in gawd’s name happened last Sunday??? Bucs had Payton and Saints on the ropes all through the first half. The second half? Guess the team forgot it’s 4 quarters not 2. They gave this game to the Aints period. What a Xmas present-helped them win the NFC So. This team should win the last 3 games including Jerry Jones’ bunch. That said, whatever. They fire DK, here we go around the coaching mulberry bush again.

  50. SOEbuc Says:

    TBbucs3

    Plant Panthers coach Robert Weiner could have a better chance of taking this team to the playoffs than any of these other Glazer kids coaches they’ve brought in.

  51. orlbucfan Says:

    Still shaking my head over last Sunday’s game. Sean Payton probably crapped his pants when he watched the Bucs give a gift wrapped division sealing game to his team. Bucs should have won all 4 of these final games. What switch this Buc Luck Curse??

  52. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

    @SOEbuc
    Out of all the potential head coaching openings, Tampa definitely is one of the most attractive opportunities. This is a really talented roster with a lot of promising young players, who haven’t even reached their peak yet. Lets not forget about the fact that we have the #1 ranked offense in the league (in terms of total yards), and a defense that looks like they’ve turned the corner. The Buccaneers should be high on a lot of coaches list this off-season.

  53. James Walker Says:

    I would give Koetter 2 more years. I think is a good coach. But that is just my opinion.

    I graduated ’07 from Plant. We had some great players (QB Robert Marve) but definently didn’t have the gigantic type kids they have now a days and Weiner and his good staff got us to semi final (L-Armwood) in his first year in ’05 and first state championship (W-St. Thomas Aquinas) in a long time in ’06. Three more SC after that so don’t tell me coaching doesn’t matter.

    I cannot imagine anybody saying they would keep Koetter. Last year he made no changes except Buckner late. He kept the worst defensive coach in the league–why–because he either does not care about the Bucs, is severely misguided or he does not know any defensive coach he thinks is better than M.Smith. Any of those reasons means he should be fired and don’t feel sorry for him. The dude is a fricking millionaire thanks to the Bucs. So Koetter don’t let the door trip you up on the way out.

    SOE, Knack,

    Everything you mentioned the team has had before. Florida is Florida, no income tax, talent on the roster, yet there hasn’t been any top candidates signed.

    Yes, I know we have never had the #1 offense, but we’ve had some good ones or a few quality players that, from the outside looking in , would have been attractive to coaches. Again, none of those guys took the job. So why now.
