Dirk Koetter’s Market Value

Joe doesn’t know any Bucs fans personally who believe Dirk Koetter is a good NFL head coach, but these people do exist.
And Joe has one poignant question for them.
When Black Monday comes in 20 short days and Koetter is fired, what other NFL team will desire him for their vacant head coaching position?
The answer is simple: none.
Just like Greg Schiano and Lovie Smith before him, NFL Owners will not come calling after studying Koetter’s body of work, which now stands at 11 wins in his last 32 games.
This is Exhibit H in the evidence bag of reasons why Koetter will be launched and Bucs fans will be re-injected with real hope.
You remember hope; you felt a shred of it Sunday against the Saints. And then somehow Koetter’s team got drilled and completely imploded in the second half allowing 25 unanswered points at home after leading 14-3 at halftime.
Koetter is one of a few men in NFL history that can claim they called plays for three top-10-ranked offenses — for three different franchises.
It’s a tremendous achievement and Joe hopes Koetter calls plays for another NFL team next season and faces the Bucs. It would be a lot of fun, and it likely would keep Jacquizz Rodgers employed, and Joe’s a fan of Rodgers’ unrelenting effort.

Koetter is a good OC…..he lacks the fire and passion to lead an entire team. I really like the guy personally as I did Mike Smith…..but that’s usually a bad sign.

We saw Koetter’s offense and coaching the first 2 games this year…..then “his” QB’s starting throwing INT’s….this team”his offense” is still missing a QB. So IMO until we have a good ,consistent, reliable , trust worthy , QB starting for the Bucs…it would not matter who the HC is

I think he is a good OC for passing routes and combos but the NFL is taking much of the spread from the college game and mixing it in to the more innovative offenses and koetter doesnt seem to want to change much like gruden and mccarthy dont seem to want to change off the “west coast” offense

..”He’s down to earth”. Dudes gotta be a crazy diva who’s a control freak. If the media says he’s a good dude or they appreciate his willingness to avoid “coach talk” then he’s not gonna make it as an NFL HC.

I definitely don’t want Koetter back as the Bucs HC next year, but we can’t ignore the fact that every year he’s had a horrible special teams unit (kicking wise) and one of the worst defenses in the league. Yes, you could say that it’s his fault for not firing Mike Smith sooner, but everyone was saying that extending Mike Smith’s contract while he was receiving HC offers, was our best move of the 2017 off-season.

Nope sorry you saw dork Koetter offense the first two games before people knew how they would attack defenses and what changes they made in the off-season after two games you realize doesn’t make in game adjustments and the game plan is the game plan. He can’t coach worth a crap when you know what he wants to do

Kotter like ALL other coaches have successful careers everywhere but Tampa….. you could bring in knoll, Lombardi and Johnson on same staff and they would find the basement….. no one can win with these garbage owners and minor league roster

Few coaches with a losing record will have hi market value. Same with horses that can’t run and dogs that can’t hunt. Issue is do you do what it takes to win consistently? Blowing up the staff (and eroding anything you have in hand that is good) is simply not a recipe for winning consistently in the NFL. Unless there is a transformational coach out there (Mccarthy, Richard, some other guy?) who can walk in with a staff and keep the offensive capability (improving red zone and O-line), improve Special teams, improve the defense, without going backwards. The value is in front of you, on this team. Is it perfect? No. Is it worth maintaining and building upon? IMO yes . Owners will make the decision to blow it up or not, but the closest thing I see to an easy button is to make focused changes while maintaining what we have that is good and allowing the team (coaches and players) to mature (vice start over). Either way, Go Bucs!

He will likely get a job as an OC, who is the OC in Jacksonville, they will have a new QB and they have all the other pieces in place. I can see him there again

How about the Pride of Pocatello, Idaho returning to coach The Idaho State Bengals…where he once was the backup QB on a national title team. He could bring in famous alum Jafed Allen to coach the defense. This is more of his “kill zone” at this stage of life/career.

Koetters not a bad guy or coach. Its just some people are not best suited for the ultimate leadership role. Not only in sports but out here in the real world also.
Sure the titles are nice. But most people don’t really see whats up. They just see the $$$. Koetter will make a nice OC somewheres or a great Divisional 2 or 3 HC in college. He’s nobody’s dummy. He’s probably already got his flyers and antennas out there. He will land safely somewheres. I’m just convinced he is not the guy to get us to the Superbowl and winning it.

AS an OC he has great market value. If you want him to stay on its not because hes a great head coach. I dont think anyone in the NFL will hire him as that going forward but its possible the Glazers keep him to bring in a strong D coordinator. The problem with that is you run the risk of a Buddy Ryan/Kevin Gilbride situation in that the true leader will not be the head coach and will resent Koetters compensation. I dont see away around letting him go but this is by far the best offense the Bucs have ever had yardage wise. We need points in crunch time thats where he fails.

You heard it here first Joe. When Dirk is fired, expect the Falcons to sign him as their offensive coordinator where he will team with Matt, Julio and company to haunt the Buccaneers for years to come. That’s just how it works around here…

Fix the OL. Get a RB. Get some depth on the D.let Licht and Koetter build on what they have. Starting from scratch is a bad option. The great franchises don’t change their leadership every two or three years. Our offense lacks a solid RB and has holes on the OL and still leads the league. Build it up. Don’t blow it up. In the history of this franchise we have never had a prolific offense. Keep Koetter. Address the holes. The Bucs will miss the playoffs because the D sucked for the first half of the season. They’re better in spite of all the injuries. Get some players healthy and get rid of the deadwood. New Orleans is the only team better in the division, and we have beaten them two out of the last three times we have played them. Stick with Koetter and Licht. Build on it.

all you guys worried about “Good Guy” coaches are completely clueless. Nice Guys finish last… Look at cancer93 and koetter. simple as that. This franchise needs a throat stomping A-Hole to clean house and scare the piss out of this soft pc pansy arse owners. But head coach for Dirk? No way. And he would have never got one if the bucs had not hired him.
They panicked when they thought he was a hot commodity. He wasn’t.
Same as with Raheem when Denver interviewed him for their head coaching slot. Glazer’s panicked. Denver was never going to hire Raheem.

Most fired coaches don’t get head coaching jobs immediately. No doubt he and Monken would get OC jobs quick given that our offense is first in the league.
If the Joes don’t know anyone that sees Koetter as a good coach, it explains why you thought Manziel would save the franchise

Koetter could have been successful in the NFL as a HC but made several key errors which sunk him.
The biggest error may have been sticking with Mike Smith as DC. And it’s difficult to fault Koetter for this TOO much as Smith has a good track record in the NFL. Almost everyone was praising the team for keeping Smith there as DC.
Had a better choice been made as DC then we could have gotten into the playoffs, especially this year when we’re still IN the race mathematically at 5-7
If I were the owner I’d hire someone as team President to take future control of this team. Someone like a Bill Parcells or Tony Dungy. Let them decide whether to blow the whole thing up or not.

He should stay in Tampa, bring in the best defensive mind available to compliment one of the best offenses in the country. Find a reliable kicker, and watch what happens. And resign Winston to a prove it contract with less than 10 million a year guaranteed and full of incentives so we have money to build on the defense and o-line.

We’ll be doing this in another 2-4 years. It’s a never ending cycle and the one who will struggle the most will be Jameis Winston. Hopefully a good veteran backup will be signed if Fitz calls it quits.

If the team signs a college coach or one of the few OC’ s who are embracing the college game, the next move has to be drafting a QB and letting Winston walk.
20mil fills holes that have to be filled thru FA. The issue is magnified by retaining Winston. It’s not a secret that without a defense, offensive line and kicker that Winston can’t win. Keep Winston and the team is not going to be able to upgrade those three crucial areas. Catch 22…..No it was overthrown…..
