Jameis Ranks 23rd In Completion Percentage
December 10th, 2018America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, has a half-season body of work this year and he’s not riding a high like many QBs are in the new NFL.
As Joe noted yesterday, Jameis completed less than 50 percent of his passes against the Saints, the first game he’s hit that low since the big Cowboys-Bucs clash on Sunday Night Football in December 2016.
Overall this season, Jameis is completing 64.8 percent of his passes. That’s a career-best number, but at the same time it’s a significant dropoff when compared to his NFL peers.
That completion percentage ranks Jameis 23rd among QBs with 80 or more attempts this season. In 2017, despite a bad shoulder, Jameis completed 63.8 percent of his passes, which was good enough to rank 14th-best in the NFL among QBs with 80 or more throws..
Ominously up next for Jameis is the Ravens defense, which leads the NFL this season in holding opposing quarterbacks to a 58.8 percent completion rate.
It looks like Jameis’ completion percentage this season will become another microscope-worthy view of Dirk Koetter’s offense and its evolution in the modern NFL, as well as the skills of Jameis.

Yesterday’s game skewed those numbers. 57% in the first half and 35% in the second. Thanks a lot Dotson.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:10 am
I think it would help tremendously to remove some of those vertical routes. There were several throws that were just wasted downs where there was no way to have completion.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:11 am
That’s because the receivers did catch the ball
The Defense played Bad
The special teams sucked
The coaches called bad plays
NEXT Excuse please Jamies Lovers
December 10th, 2018 at 11:12 am
Def a franchise QB….
December 10th, 2018 at 11:19 am
Buc50 nailed it, the vert concept Dirk runs puts more stress on the OL needing more time to pass block. That combined with no running game will be the reason Dirk will be unemployed on black Monday.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:20 am
$5 says Winston don’t play on Sunday bc he’s currently getting x-rays done on his knee. Pure speculation, who wants the bet?
December 10th, 2018 at 11:23 am
ATrain- You cannot blame Jameis. He was busy before the game turning water into wine!
True story!
On the real though, he looked like a deer in headlights in the 2nd half. Bad showing.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:26 am
Yesterday Winston made some fantastic plays. Yes, he missed some wide open receivers too, partly due to lack of time thanks to the O line and part due to him being JW#3. Yesteday was a culmination of the whole season. Defense is porous, kicking game lacks. Winston does not have the respect of his team (nor does he deserve it), coaching is awful, lack of leaders on the team in all phases. Poor JPP on an island…again. Worse, in BAL this weekend…powerhouse team with post season hopes, Bucs team full of problems and frustration all over…may see who players REALLY are as competitors, and as people. And it might not be good.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:28 am
Atrain
Only one excuse, he played hurt. But rest assured our prayers will be answered this offseason when Winston moves on from Tampa. Honestly it can’t happen fast enough.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:29 am
Winston was confused in the 2nd half. That’s from Dave Moore’s mouth.
The chips were down and he melted again. Same old Winston.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:33 am
buc50
i agree….been saying it for 2years now….the 4vert scheme is predictable and outdated…..
but for some reason folks want the man in charge of the “#1 offense” to return next year….lol….
#NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!
December 10th, 2018 at 11:35 am
The fans and media do not appreciate Jamies in Tampa.
If I were his agent I would attempt to move on to another organization after next year.
Denver, NY Giants, Jaguars or Redskins would most likely pay him significantly more than what the Bucs would be willing to pay. He could leave a poorly run organization with fans and local media that does not want him here for a much better opportunity.

^^^^^^this^^^^^^
December 10th, 2018 at 11:39 am
just shows how bad DJax and OJ Howard are missed. No deep threat anymore. Godwin just not fast enough to burn you deep. Add in no running game and erratic throws and you end up losing again.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:47 am
I have no issue with his completion percentage. That may be, quite literally, the least of his problems.
December 10th, 2018 at 11:47 am
I’m not sure what the defenders of Jamies are watching. He is in his 4th year and he still can’t hit the deep ball to open receivers. He overthrows guys which lead to either interceptions or a lost down. He holds the ball for more than 5 seconds and either gets sacked or forces a pass. He does scramble fairly well but that won’t win games. I know guys will say “oh his offensive line can’t block well” and that is partly true, however when you hold the ball as long as he does bad things happen. No offensive line can hold pass blocks for more than 6 seconds. Look at all the great quarterbacks. They all throw quick and know where they are going when they get up to the line. And if its not open within 4-5 seconds they are usually throw it away. Jameis is an ok quarterback but I think thats his ceiling. 4 years into the league and making the same mistakes.
December 10th, 2018 at 12:05 pm
VC is watching the game on am radio again.
He hit Evans just fine on a deep pass.
No ints in over 14+ qrts unless you count Hail Marys
With Caleb and Demar he’s got people in his face within .5 seconds.
Tampa has always traded their best QBs and hopefully they continue the tradition.
December 10th, 2018 at 12:17 pm
v. Saints: I think the pressure the OL allowed is causing this issue more than Winston’s throwing motion or feet placement to cause the low completion percentage. The OL play yesterday was highschool-ish. Dotson and Smith were both aweful. I think its time for change in these 2 spots. Do not bring back Smith he is hot garbage….3 penalties on him alone yesterday.
December 10th, 2018 at 12:18 pm
Jameis had a great throw to evans and then the rest were absolutely not even close, I do not get it. The one to bobo wilson last week was horrible bobo was wide open and it was an easy td, similar to the times djax is wide open, I would like to see if another qb could get a higher completion percent to these guys.
It seemed like evans was POd at end of game when winston threw that deep pass to him and didnt give him a chance
December 10th, 2018 at 12:27 pm
Dusty
Or Evans was POd he didn’t get the obvious PI call.
December 10th, 2018 at 12:40 pm
I can’t stand all you Jameis haters blaming everything on him. Bucs haven’t given this guy a decent oline or coaching since his rookie year. Koetter making his classic great decisions to keep Benenoch starting the entire year is genius. That guy should be playing backup to my daughter’s high school flag football team. Put all the pieces together and no doubt Jameis numbers will rise.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:05 pm
#3
is simply not a good QB
in decision
poor decision
can only hit the broad side of a barn
December 10th, 2018 at 1:08 pm
Again dumbest fan base in the country bar none. Hey we can always hang our hats on that, cause based on most of these comments (hat tip to VC, ATrain, Trex) we are not getting any smarter.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:25 pm
Ndog….you need to get out in the world….the worlds fan base has to time for Jamyth….read the comments on any Jamyth article…it is only here in Tampa and Seminole country that die hards are still clinging to fleeting dreams of glory…for me it is pure analytical Football evaluation and despite Jamyth’s HUGE stats…he is a terrible passer…terrible…
December 10th, 2018 at 1:29 pm
I just wanna see Winston win. Whether he does it with his arm or legs or by managing the game.
He’s clearly made improvements in his game since his benching and I think it fair to look at those games separately. I would be pleased if he can achieve 4-2 in these final six and that is what I need to be optimistic for the future with him.
At some point something’s gotta give and this team just needs to start winning. It’s getting old arguing about stats and always trying to find somebody to blame and being called a idiot and a moron by fellow fans cause we’re all angry and frustrated.
Just can’t belive it’s been 2 decades and we still have no reason to have any reak hope for this team. It’s so hard rooting for this s**t year after year apon decades.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:29 pm
Lmao… some hilarious stuff in here today. I get it, believe me. That was a very frustrating game.
But make NO mistake about it.
Jameis is not going anywhere.
He will be right here.
Thankfully so.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:32 pm
Great comments from you, @JimmyJack, as always.
We will get there again, man. We’ll get there.
And when we finally do, would love to have a beer with ya.
Go BUCS.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:35 pm
All I know is that if W’s were food, we’d be starving.
I love the Jameis knob slobberers…point out that Jameis sucks and they attack you with insults.
I hope you all leave when he does so this fan base can reunite again.
Worst pick for this franchise.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:39 pm
Why are the friggen radio guys talking like Dirk is still playing for his job?
Are they really looking at these three meaningless games as some kind of big test for this guy? I can’t understand that thinking.
Dirk has been choking in any kind significant game since he been here. Losing yesterday confirmed he will not get any more significant games for this city. How does anybody not see that yesterday was his last chance? The guys job is to win us football games. He has failed every test he’s had here starting in 2016 vs Dallas.
He has no more chances to proove his worth. What are these people talking about?
And I am so sick of hearing Dirk given praise cause his team didn’t quit on him. Is this our f***ing standard. It don’t matter about winning? Am I supposyed to be pleased that we didnt quit? I dont even understand how a team not quitting is even worth a discussion….let a lone it be a deciding factor about this loser.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:46 pm
I’ll go to Ray Jay and support this team next year. Even if we’re bad out of the gate I’ll support a new regime.
Sorry Demon. After yesterdays game I crossed the Falcons game off my Xmas list.
December 10th, 2018 at 1:53 pm
Blaming the QB is part of football. Always has been and always will be. They are blaming f***ing Tom Brady today. Winston is not above any critism that every other QB in the league is.
Just admit our QB didn’t play good yesterday and move on.
You guys get way too high and way too low with every passing detail…..LOL…..I’d love to watch a game with some of you wackos.
December 10th, 2018 at 2:35 pm
Didn’t know there were so many head coaches and talent evaluators in my city. Stop wasting time cleaning toilets at your real jobs. You should be GM!!!
December 10th, 2018 at 2:44 pm
Jameis Winston played Drew Brees a HOF QB to a draw yesterday.
Bucs OL was terrible and was abused by Saints DL.
Saints ST out played Bucs ST.
Not hard to figure out why the Saints won and the Bucs lost.
Unless you have Winston Derangement Sundrome then you probably can’t spell C A T or can’t add 2+ 2. Simpletons.
December 10th, 2018 at 2:54 pm
Accurate rating. He is blow average QB, and always is going to stay below average. Distracted, confused, disequilibrium, tunnel vision, inaccurate, hot headed. Boy, we are in trouble if we keep this guy.
December 10th, 2018 at 3:53 pm
A franchise quarterback should be able to put the team on his shoulders and will a win. He should be consistent. Jameis is neither. He is four and thirteen in his last seventeen starts. There is no need to gather more info.
Now that it is garbage time, let’s see what Ryan Griffin can do. Maybe some of those deep passes will get completed.
December 10th, 2018 at 3:57 pm
He was playing extremely well before the O-line fell apart at the seems and he had less than 2 seconds to throw on almost every snap in the second half.
December 10th, 2018 at 3:59 pm
Jamyth will school (rookie) Lamar Jackson next Sunday
December 10th, 2018 at 4:45 pm
PAY THIS MAN HIS $200 MILLION, AND KEEP HIM FOR 20 YEARS!
He has earned it!!!
December 10th, 2018 at 4:47 pm
– Low Completion %
– HIgh Turnover Rate
– Low Winning %
– High Yardage In 2nd Halfs When Behind In Points Against Soft Coverage
– High Off-The-Field Bad Behavior
Sounds like a guy worth giving $100,000,000+ contract to and keeping for a long time.
WHY TRY AND MOVE ON?
December 10th, 2018 at 4:54 pm
Ever notice how wide open other teams’ receivers are and our guys are running routes that bring two receivers into the same space? What the heck?
Also, maybe 5 penalties on 6 plays and a left tackle that is getting smoked are not gonna give a QB the ability to survey the field. The commentators mentioned, it is like he is planning to scramble….yeah, that would make sense.
December 10th, 2018 at 7:13 pm
There was a huge difference in Jameis after the knee injury/tweak at the end of the first half. That was his plant leg, folks. And his completion percentage plummeted after the injury. He has three weeks to keep showing what he has – two against touh defenses on the road.
I’m anxious to see what he has.
December 10th, 2018 at 7:22 pm
Jameis is able to check the play at the line, correct? If so, he’s horrible at reading defenses. If not, then he’s not our franchise QB
December 10th, 2018 at 8:49 pm
He is about the 23rd best q.b
December 11th, 2018 at 8:13 am
Tony LA,
From what I’ve read, what he has is a sweet, guaranteed 20+ million waiting on him next year, even if continues to s**t the bed. Winston’s not worried. True Buc fans, homer’s won’t, should be though.
December 11th, 2018 at 2:09 pm
Winston is good
December 11th, 2018 at 2:10 pm
Oline was the problem.
