“They’re Just Taking A Little Better To The Coaching”

December 5th, 2018

Commander Duffner

Little magic is happening at One Buc Palace when it comes to the revival of the Buccaneers defense, per promoted-in-October coordinator Mark Duffner.

The high-energy, 65-year-old commander of the defense talked about that today while answering media questions about the defense’s rise from heinous depths since he took over for fired Mike Smith.

About the defensive revival, Duffner uttered what might have been the most simple but profound thing Joe has heard from a coach in a long time, “They’re just taking a little better to the coaching.”

Amen.

Duffer repeated that theme a couple of times and talked about how “you want the hungry player,” and you “make the shoes fit the players or vice versa.”

Man, if Duffner can win the chess/ intensity game against Sean Payton and Drew Brees on Sunday, Joe will be thoroughly sold on the revival of this Bucs defense. That doesn’t mean the Bucs will win the game, but a “W” sure would be likely if Duffner and friends can hold the Saints offense to 24 points or less.

BEAT THE AINTS. BEAT THEM GOOD!

  2. Jim Says:

You could say the same thing about Winston…

  3. Cannon Says:

This team is such a tease, lol.

  4. vinny Says:

And then we should proceed to give Koetters offense (best by far in franchise history) and the energy and coaching Duff brings one more year…

imagine if we had this all year long…

    AND A KICKER -_-

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    better coaching = better results……

been saying for years, it aint the players and talent that was the issue….its the coaching and scheme……the coaches have screwed licht over with their poor coaching…..

winston needs better coaching as well…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  6. joestang Says:

This is our Super Bowl Sunday, if we can win we have a real good shot at the playoffs., lose and we can start looking at draft pics. Win or lose I still say get rid of Licht.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Don’t tell me, Duff. Show me.

    Here’s a question:
If the Bucs manage to beat the Saints, what are the chances of winning out and keeping the entire staff?

  8. DB55 Says:

Is it just me or is Whitehead like 800x better than Chris Conte?

  9. Easy Says:

Whitehead is better than Conte and Evans both

  10. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

    DB55,

Whitehead is the truth. He’s gonna be a better version of Tanard Jackson, and hopefully for many more seasons than TJack

  11. westernbuc Says:

If the Bucs beat the Saints we’ll still have fans complaining

  12. it's only just begun Says:

it’s not you DB55 whitehead is 800x better maybe 1000x better

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @DB55

He’s got the potential to be better, and he has been steadily improving. But Conte was signed to only a 1 year deal this year because he was supposed to be a bridge player for whoever they drafted.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Lol, westernbuc.

  15. BucNASTY Says:

@DB55 yea, he is lol been saying that since preseason

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Conte was meant as a bridge player to Whitehead. Jordan just got to play sooner because of the injury.

  17. BUCS BAGIJ Says:

We scored 48 on them the last time. We won’t be able to do the same this time around. Its time to unleash Watson. He’s almost as fast as DJax.

  18. DB55 Says:

I don’t see Whitehead getting run over by anybody much less violated on national tv. Oh Conte you’re so funny, not 1 but 2 career ending stiff-arms.

  19. aj Says:

Conte had the same, bad coaching. Just saying.

The difference is JPP and Nassib, and Duffner is letting them go, and in the last few weeks, teams have no answer for it. They move from side to side, in the middle, three point stance, rush from standing position.

Add to that, Vea is starting to get some double teams, or rolling doubles. He got a lot of rolling doubles on Sunday, and they were not very effective for Carolina.

The back 7, outside of David, are just really hungry kids now. They are getting into guys faces and they are fighting. All of them are making mistakes, but they are all converging on the ball now, so missed tackles aren’t turning into touchdowns.

Even though they may lack in talent and experience, they are playing phenomenal complementary football.

And man is JPP not the best player around here since Brooks. Just like Simeon, at the end of the game, you could just see he was going to dominate. And he did. That’s the instinct we’ve all been waiting/hoping to see from GMC and Lavonte the last few years.

  20. SOEbuc Says:

Is it me or does Whitehead have the second most tackles (60) on the team with Koetter making his classic decisions to give Isaiah Johnson (Steaming baby diaper) tons of playing time. That’s why Koetter is no good as a HC. He makes the final decision on players on the field. I’m almost 99% sure it was the Glazers that told him he had to boot Mike Smith with him saying “you can’t just fire the DC five weeks into the season” one week prior. KNOWS D!CK ABOUT DEFENSE! Has a soft, basic playbook. That’s why our #1 offense is worst in the red zone.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

And Duff is trying to lock down a job (which is already likely somewhere) for next year with all these remarks.

  22. Eric Says:

We can roast Koetter if we lose Sunday.

Till then I say get behind the team.

  23. orlbucfan Says:

Coaches better warn Bucs they will be playing against the refs, too, Sunday. Bucs have to keep getting better especially on offense. First game was won via most points but with a dead defense and crummy kicker. Now, both have changed. Still hope to hear some no-huddles and 2-minute drills.

  24. Darin Says:

Lol. Dirks the same coach he was a month ago. He is gone. All ya gota do is look at the ticket give-away. Its a business. Same coach same people not going. Adios

  25. LargoBuc Says:

    Sweep the Saints!

  26. Easy Says:

    SOEbuc:
Evans went out at halftime and this Johnson was forced to play along with some other no namer last name Shaw.

  27. Hawk Says:

    @ Buccaneer Bonzai
If the Bucs run the table (playoff or not), I cannot imagine a scenario in which the Glazers make *any* changes for next year.

  28. SOEbuc Says:

    Easy

He isn’t just a backup. I’ve seen Johnson many a time getting burnt and ran over every week since he ran full speed into the wall in the back of the end zone early in the season. I definintly look out for him on defensive plays every week because he’s always there when something bad happens.

  29. stpetebucsfan Says:

We’ve had some explosive offensive games but we’ve still had plenty of mistakes even in those “good” games. Last Sunday looked complete.

We are due to explode. 48 points…of course New Orleans won’t be far behind. Lol

  30. Ra'Shad Says:

Let’s choke their asses out !!! Go Bucs

  31. The Buc Realist Says:

is drew brees shoulder as banged up as cam’s was?????? because that is what changed the game of chess to checkers last Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
