Jameis Reaches Civil Settlement Agreement With Uber Driver

Was it a money grab or a crotch grab?
We’ll never know.
For those who forgot, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, has a pending civil suit against him for alleged inappropriate sexual touching of a female Uber driver while in the drive-thru line of a fast-food restaurant in Arizona back in March 2016.
The NFL investigation into the matter got Jameis a three-game suspension to start this season and a list of behavior demands from NFL strongman Roger Goodell, despite no arrest or witnesses to the alleged impropriety.
TMZ Sports today says Jameis and the Uber driver have agreed to a settlement, per papers filed in federal court.
Two years later, the woman — who goes by “Kate P.” in legal docs — filed suit against the Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback.
In new docs filed in federal court in Arizona on Nov. 26, the woman’s lawyer says “Plaintiff has reached an agreement with Defendant to resolve her claims.”
“The parties are in the process of finalizing a settlement agreement but need approximately 10 days to complete this process.”
A wise but depressing move by Jameis.
He needed to get this cleared up so his career could move forward smoothly. But it’s another tacit admission of guilt in another terribly sleazy situation. The Jameis faithful won’t get their day in court, where the Uber driver, with no substantial evidence, would have somehow had to prove Jameis did something wrong.

Actually, the NFL knows more than all, and it was six games taken down to three, and it looks like Winston still didn’t settle by the SOL expiration–but finally did. The only “sleazy situation” in BOTH cases Joe talks about are the ones Winston created himself. The Uber driver did her job…so the NFL found. Here is the sorriest line in the clip above:

Sad how Joe somehow knows there is “no substantial evidence” but the NFL lawyers concluded there was certainly plenty. What does Joe know the NFL doesn’t? It seems apparent though that the NFL, as is perhaps Jameis especially, are glad for their image he WON’T have a day in court. Shame on Joe. This isn’t a gold digger lawsuit. You are heavily defending Winston with a wild assumption there is “no substantial evidence” (it’s really not a wild assumption at all. there are some lawyers here who comment. Perhaps some of them will invest the time to explain). –Joe and the driver would have to “somehow prove” (as if she couldn’t)–as if wishing it could go to court (as Jameis lovers privately breathe a sigh of relief). Hey, you could fairly claim it was “he said she said” before the NFL completed their investigation and levied the suspension. But not now. The alleged roughly 4-second crime is a pure he-said-she-said situation. There is no debating that. Everything else is a lot of interesting noise. –Joe

In a drive-thru line, at a Taco Bell if memory serves? Jameis already has said he was boozing it hard that night. My bet is that he was handing over a $20 bill for the food and dropped it, and since he was drunk, reached for it where it landed – in her lap. Could be an innocent explanation. After all, only 3 games from the league screams that they weren’t convinced that her story held up. Just thinking out loud… Anyway, I’m convinced that he’s matured quite a bit now and that questionable behavior is a thing of the past – having a wife and kid does that for young men. It did the trick for me and I’ll bet the same for many of Joe’s faithful readers! I’m still rooting for the guy for his youth and potential.

From the NFL report: “a comprehensive investigation that included interviews with several persons, including the driver, Winston and others with relevant information” and “also examined an extensive amount of other evidence, including telephone records, business records, data from electronic devices and other communications.”
Doesn’t sound like “no substantive evidence” here. Not a “he said she said.”

Rice’s biggest crime wasn’t punching his baby mamma in face it was making Roger Goodell look stupid. 75,000 is called getting off cheap. It’s not “necessarily” an admission of guilt.
I’ve never been the guy here who defended JW’s reprehensible actions. What he did was wrong…he’s now making the final payment for his mistake after an off season of horrid PR.
But too much was made of the “alleged” crime, largely because of JW’s horrible FSU off field rep. His past colored this entire episode. You can whine about that being unfair but it is what it is.
What disturbs me is JW has never really apologized to the fans and his teammates nearly enough. Perhaps that was a legal decision since the case was still alive.
OK so now after the season hold one final presser where JW says…I truly apologize to my fans and teammates….I did NOT behave like a leader in Arizona. I cannot be out in public at 3AM blackout drunk with a convicted felon…leaders have responsibilities …I’ve learned my lesson…this is the last time I say anything about it. I close with simply stating I’ve learned my lesson and I’m incredibly sorry and embarrassed.

I have a daughter so I’ll never condone this kind of behavior; and if she was truly victimized that night, shame on Jameis…That being said, because of years of media coverage (even a documentary) the r@pe alligation is well known by people who don’t follow sports at all…

Second the lesson would be if you put yourself in a bad situation IE drinking late at night it may come back to cost you plenty. He didnt lie. He only told them about the Uber ride he remembered with another female driver. He was indeed in the backseat. It wasn’t until he was told of the second female uber driver on the way back to hotel is where he told the league he didn’t remember her because he had been drinking.

“In addition, a future violation of the personal conduct policy will result in more substantial discipline, including a potential ban from the NFL.”
If he would have gone to trial to prove his innocence, he could have been banned depending on the result.
The NFL stripped him of his right to face his acusor.

Fast forward that’s one time in college he was accused and once in the pros. A settlement is not an admission of guilt. Like JBF says it is a total he said/she said 4 second situation that IMO, was not that big of a deal. He was punished, did his time, now let it go. Judge him going forward. Amendment 4 did pass. Yes it restored voting rights to felons but it’s about not punishing someone forever for a past mistake.

The NFL, like many employers, rightfully holds players to a higher standard for personal conduct that the criminal justice system. The NFL did a private investigation into the matter and found the victim’s claims credible, at least more credible than Winston and his entourage.
Was it a money grab? Possibly, but one would expect a money grab claim to have been filed right away. The victim had let this matter go until the #MeToo movement empowered her to come forward. The civil suit timing seems like it was filed in response to Winston’s lies and carefully worded semi-apology, as a way to hold him legally and/or financially responsible for his actions.
I understand that Winston’s motivation to settle the suit out of court rather than have this play out in a public trial, but I would expect a man of integrity to fight to the end of the earth to protect his good name.

I am not happy but let’s make one thing clear it is much easier for someone to win a civil case vs a true court case. I just find it hard to fully believe he was guilty when the victim refuses to take it to trial and waits till less proof is needed to win. If she would have went all in from day one and tried to prove his guilt legally in a court of law this would hold more water but it appears she wanted no part of that and waited for the easier win. So again I’m not happy but I don’t believe her either. Bottom line it’s over and we move on but anything like this again he’s done with me forever, period.

We have a female Uber driver who gets the award for being incredibly clever. She picks up a stranger…was allegedly told by one of the creeps with Jameis who he was…Buc’s QB. In the span of less than 30 minutes she is converted into an accomplished gold digger who figures out she might be able to work a payday out of the trip and makes the report to Uber.

So again to review…we have a fabulously wealthy star who had all day to make his decisions who goes out with two low lifes…one of them a convicted rapist…get’s blind drunk…but he’s not the one who made the mistake.
We have a young Uber driver who is so freaking clever and smart she can figure…hey it’s just me and him in the car so I can blackmail him. Yeah that’s the ticket.
Some are more honest like Bonzai who doesn’t really care if a 6-5 guy grabs his daughter his wife vajajay…it’s not really that bad according to him so he simply doesn’t care. Just freaking amazing.

Winston needs much MUCH better PR people around him. He let a drunken moment of mischief define his life. Now I believe he’s branded as a rapist for doing what most of us guys have done at least a few times at bars or nightclubs (and don’t lie and say you never grabbed a butt or a boob while flirting with girls at these venues). It was the same thing in college, whether a “hookup” on free crab legs, jumping onto a platform attempting distasteful humor, or other acts of immaturity. I gave him a pass on the rape allegation as there was just too much evidence working against Kinsman to make her story believable, but now, it is obvious he must’ve done SOMETHING wrong that night enough so to make the girl regret the experience.
It’s not the actions themselves that are so odious, but the failure of taking responsibility and being HONEST about them–and if you’re not going to be honest about them, please at least hire Sarah Huckabee Sanders to lie for you.
