There is little national interest in the 4-7 Buccaneers except when it comes to fantasy football.
With a top-10 scoring offense and an array of receiving weapons, the Bucs hold major intrigue in that realm.
That’s why tight end Cameron Brate was talking to SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Features right after Sunday’s win against the 49ers.
Of course, much of the chatter was about Brate now becoming a major target in the Bucs’ passing game with O.J. Howard out for the year, as well as Brate’s longtime chemistry with America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
Brate served up a couple of interesting nuggets.
Twice he said Howard’s success came “at my expense.”
Brate wasn’t annoyed or bitter, just calling it straight when asked about why his production fell off drastically this season. Howard is such a darn complete tight end, Brate said, that it was understandable.
Also, Brate confidently said the Bucs’ offense has been unstoppable — except by the Bucs.
“There really hasn’t been any defense that has kind of stopped us from doing what we want to do,” he said. “It’s just turnovers, especially down there in the red zone.”
Brate’s take is one to think about on the heels of the Bucs carving through the 49ers’ 10th-ranked defense Sunday after finally playing turnover-free football.
And we all know Tampa Bay has rolled up points on just about everyone, including a furious comeback against their next opponent, the Panthers, four weeks ago. It’s easy to forget the Bucs pulled to within one score, 35-28, with 14 minutes remaining before the Bucs defense wilted and a Caleb Benenoch penalty helped kill a drive.

23 interceptions is what has stopped this offense.

Joe Brate was talking about turnovers stopping the offense. Not about Caleb Benenoch.

And don’t forget last year we had the lead late vs the Panthers, and of course they drove right down the field and won the game, assisted by our guy who shall remain nameless jumping offside.
And the Panthers have dropped 3 straight and are 1-4 on the road.
Protect the football and we should win.

“Turnovers”?! Here I thought it was our defense that was keeping them from scoring!
When you don’t turn the ball over, you give your team a chance to win.

SB u remember everyone talking about McCaffrey wont succeed cuz ain’t no white RBS make it in the NFL but here he is ballin. I hope ur wrong though we need our defense to contain him. Everyone thinks we’re done but if we win out n the cards fall right we have a slim chance but it’s a chance. Problem is we always say that n fall short 🤷♂️. As a bucs fan hope is all we got left n high draft picks ain’t why we watch football n pull for the bucs…..GO BUCS

SB, McCaffery is who I was hoping the Bucs would take last year (?), but I think he was gone when we picked, plus we needed help on the D side of the ball. You’re right, he is a beast.

There’s no way teams could come back on the amount of points we put up, regardless of defensive play, as long as we don’t turn the ball over, particularly in the red zone.

McCaffery was #8 and we had #19. Tenn had #18 and I was holding my breath that whey wouldn’t take OJ. They took Adooree Jackson who didn’t look like a 1st rd pick last night.

Exactly Cam. We all agree that is the problem for sure!
How do we cure it. People want to lay it all on JW and he’s certainly responsible for his share…But Brate…ME13…Godwin…and others have all contributed…even Jack Smith loses a ball just outside the red zone.
And so how do we fix this? It infects virtually the ENTIRE team.
And when our playmakers arent’ choking our OL are taking mind numbingly stupid penalties at just the wrong time.

No way , not a chance that Koetter could get McCaffery ready or use him properly . He would want him to be the best blocking back in nfl history before he would see it fit to utilize his talents .
