JPP Breaks The Sack Curse, Streak

November 25th, 2018

UPDATED: It happened.

It really freakin’ happened.

Joe predicted Jason Pierre-Paul would finally end the misery this season, the Bucs’ 12-season streak of no player with double-digit sacks. But when Joe called that on a preseason edition of the Ira Kaufman Podcast, Joe certainly wasn’t thinking it would come with five games still to play.

With a few minutes remaining in the first half today, JPP got the job done with a sack of 49ers QB Nick Mullens. That gave JPP 10 1/2 sacks on the season.

Not since Simeon Rice had 14 in 2005, for the NFL’s No. 1-ranked Buccaneers defense. Wow. It really happened.

The curse is over.

Cairo Santos even drilled two first-half field goals with ease.

Strangely beautiful day in Tampa, though JPP did leave the game in the third quarter with a knee injury but returned later.

    God bless JPP

woo hoo I’m glad that JPP is the only good draft pick we got this year, too bad he won’t last more than a few more years.

Glad to have him on this team, just sucks that it doesn’t mean shet.

  3. Blackmagic00 Says:

Jpp with double digit sacks, Santos 2 fg’s and an extra point and Mike Evans over 1000 yards five years in a row. Awesome

  4. BurgDweller Says:

Good for him! He is playing with heart. To bad the rest of the D is hot stinking garbage.

  5. Zwak Says:

    Well done Sir!

  6. Mike10 Says:

It’s going to be a good looking, more ferocious D next year with McCoy traded

  7. rrsrq Says:

it was the San Fran game that turned the Bucs luck around way back when, music was rated PG-13, TV was PG and and Football was R. Congrats JPP (welcome back to Ray Jay

    Job well done

Best Bucs game Ive ever been to buddy. And Ive been to alot. That was opening day 96 i think. Sapp took rice and young both out in the same game. That place was rocking for 50,000 or whatever it was. Wish the bucs would lose today tho. Need Dirk out and better draft positioning. Lets set the new staff up.

Unleash the Hump and Barber! Keep it rolling Jameis!

  13. SteveK Says:

Vea is playing hard. Love watching the big fella wreck people

  14. SteveK Says:

Our secondary is pretty bad lol. Licht is gone, IMHO, bc the defense is worst ever.

    @ Darin,

Yessir, I Was there too and it was definitely rocking,

Congrats to JPP: I have a comment on Winston and “Joe’s” love for what he calls “America’s QB”…
We all love “JOE” or we wouldn’t be following his every word – every post!!!
Having said that, we all know that “Joe” LOVES Winston..
The reality is that Winston had a great day today, even got a win!!!!!!
The rest of that reality is that Winston (after today’s performance) will be touted by “Joe” as the next coming of Marino (#13) or Brady (#12) when he is an average to below average QB at best….
Winston will “shine” from time to time but in the middle of all that “shinning” Winston will attempt to get “Sporty” and start handing the ball over to the other teams… THE BUCS MUST MOVE ON FROM WINSTON.
Finally, Winston is facing a Civil suite for sexual assault. If people will remember back OJ got acquitted of a double murder but was found at fault in the Civil suite. Same for Winston. He’s a bad apple and ownership should step up and say” “We gave this guy a shot, it didn’t work”.
I bet Oakland would give a high draft pick for him.
Too much talent on this team to allow Winston to continually give us fans flashes of hope ONLY to be torn away by bad play, turning the ball over and then (for the cherry on top) get himself into situations off the field which simply are unacceptable…

  17. Bucs14 Says:

JPP and Nassib are beast. Vea may have broken out today I hope. McCoy not so much.

  18. John Says:

LOL.. Joe is blocking all “less than warm and fuzzy” comments about Winston. Not fair Joe…..lol

  19. Geno Says:

Credit goes to JPP and give a little assist to Jason Licht.

  20. Season Is Over Says:

JPP is one of the only FA to come in and earn his money since Vincent Jackson. Jackson’s first few seasons were everything you ever want from a FA. I hope JPP continues his success. He has proven what losers were here before him.

  21. El_Buc941 Says:

Even if we win out I think koetter is toast.4 years and no playoffs?

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

There were actually few people here who were upset we unloaded a 3rd round pick for JPP.

AGAIN…Even first rounders are not sure things! The top of the round are about 62% successful…it drops quickly and by the 3rd round it’s a real crap shoot. Nobody in the NFL…GM’s…broadcasters…analysts want to admit this since it renders a large part of their jobs and earnings meaningless.

We tend to look at great players and say see…they were top picks. True but that totally ignores the other side of the coin.

When guys like Christian Ponder, John Sullivan and Daunte Culpepper are considered good, great and legendary picks respectively, it shows, at least on a relative scale, how difficult it is to draft a quality starter.

If we were desperate for a QB and there was just ONE game left…lose it and we get Will Grier(IF we needed a QB I do not believe we do)…I understand the sentiment.
That’s it!!! Talking about mounting a five game losing streak this year to set us up for next year is just brain dead IMHO.

We have a horrible losing culture. Where does this come from?
Has anyone ever heard of quality teams losing for draft picks?

We actually WON a game today!!! Celebrate. Win five more and we finish with a WINNING record. Lose them on purpose and we get a ticket to the lottery for ONE player with a little better than 60% chance of success.

I’m stunned when I think about it. Why line up in 2019 if we’re coming off a five game losing streak? Let’s freaking WIN everytime we hit the field.

  23. Geno Says:

Not that it matters to your point Season is Over but JPP was a trade for a 3rd rounder.

Licht has had better success with his low end FA than higher paid FA.

  24. ATrain Says:

    THE MAN

  25. Thomas James Bowery Says:

JPP is a no nonsense player who only has one mission in mind.Destroy QB’S and win games. I am very happy for him that he has achieved success in Tampa Bay and still has 5 games left. Thanks JPP for being real and a man with integrity.

  26. Thomas James Bowery Says:

Need to draft all defense and maybe OL.

  27. Buc believer Says:

Don’t forget Batman got a sack too when the QB fell right in front of home and Gerald touched him…., or was he helping him up???

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Imagine if we would have gotten him back when he became a free agent. I wanted him back in March 2013:

    “FREE AGENCY WISHLIST

    Sign DE Jason Pierre-Paul $9-10m/Yr
    …”

Ironic that is what we are paying for him now…or around that price.

I wanted him so badly back then. Ironically, the price I suggested is around the price we are paying for him now.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I love how Vita Vea is turning a corner just as I predicted a few days ago too.

Nassib is the best free agent signing of the year, and he is a rookie! Imagine how good this kid will be in two years!

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Nassib is on pace for an 8 sack season.

Vea is on pace for 6.5 sacks…surprisingly enough. If he keeps starting and playing well.

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Speaking of Vita Vea…I think it is time he replaces Beau Allen as the starter. Allen has no sacks and is a run stopper. Vea is now starting to acclimate to the nfl, has 2 sacks, and is a run stopper.
