Peyton Barber: Inconsistent Effort Sinking Bucs
November 18th, 2018The warrior in the Buccaneers’ backfield appeared to be the last player out of the trainers’ room tonight in the bowels of MetLife Stadium.
Joe was waiting for him.
Peyton Barber had a hell of a game against the Giants, 18 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown. It was the biggest single-game yardage output of his career and he ran hard, as usual.
“Part of me feels good but the other half knows it doesn’t mean anything unless it’s a win,” Barber said.
Barber admitted he felt some extra juice and desire wanting to match the big day rookie running Saquon Barkley had against the Tampa Bay defense, but Barber said he’s always pumped up to outplay the opposing back.
“Coaches just kept feeding me, and I feel like once I get the hot hand I’m kind of hard to stop,” said Barber, who agrees with Dirk Koetter when he says Barber only needs more touches to hit another level of performance.
As for the struggling Bucs and their 3-7 record, Joe asked Barber what’s the difference between winning and losing with this team. And the answer opened Joe’s eyes.
The soft-spoken Barber went to the effort card.
“We got to play hard for 60 minutes. We can’t play hard for spurts of the game. We got to play hard for the whole game,” Barber said.
You can feel those differences in effort in a game? Joe asked as a follow-up.
“Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. We also got to pick each other up,” Barber said. “When the defense isn’t doing well, we got to score points. When [the offense is] not doing well, the defense has to make stops. It goes hand in hand.”
Koetter has pleaded with his team to put together a complete game, 60 minutes all phases. That hasn’t happened yet.
And while Koetter says the effort is there — he repeated that today after the game — it seems his bellcow running back thinks it could be a little better.

Peyton “better than your average running back” Barber is right! At least we saw the big fat softie get a sack

Shocker. Millionaires don’t care about winning. Good thing I was sitting down…

In other words, coaches can’t get the full potential out of these guys.

He’ll go as far as the oline will take him. The great Barry Sanders, for as many yard he had, he had a huge amount of yards lost because he had a horrible line. I like that he has a barber has a constant motor, but he needs oline help.

if the problem is effort then you have a bigger problem with no leadership

Maybe turn the music off during practices so it stops the dancing and bs. You play games how you practice and if it’s a huge party during practice, then this is what you get during the game.

Where were Peyton Barber on 4th and 1, from the Giants 5 yard line?
He didn’t get any carries in the Red Zone on that possession

should they ask all the fans to be quiet on game days too so these mental midgets are not distracted.

Coaches can’t coach. GM can’t draft. Talent isn’t recognized(Barber). Other than that, we are in good shape. The book on Barber all along is give him the touches he needs. Hell, Koetter hardly put the guy in the game when Martin was around. Barber has heart and skill set Togo with it. Too bad nobody at 1 Buc has seen that til now. Blow it up. JUST DO IT!

I like Barber’s “want to.” However, he’s never going to be confused with a bell cow back.

That fourth and one play in the Red Zone was much under one yard and had Peyton Barber’s name written all over it…. What a poor display of judgement on behalf of coaching to fail in the play call…

Put Barber behind a decent offensive line and he’ll be a solid back. This was the best I’ve seen them run block all season long.

about 3 games late to insert the famous one, mama always said, stubborn is as stubborn does, fitz was my best good friend and even i know that ain’t something you can find just around the corner, fitz was gonna be a team captain, but instead he died right there by that river in jersey. well ya know in all this excitement, i kinda lost track of myself, did he throw 3 interceptions or four, you feel lucky koetter? do ya punk, when i stopped living in the problem, the problem went away, we have learned the satisfaction of instincts, cannot be the sole aim of our lives, koetter beats himself in the head with a hammer so he can not feel the ache. everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it will live it’s whole life believing it is stupid, great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds just some quotes i feel pertain to dirk

Inconsistent effort is McCoy. This team has learned from him.

in other words let the house cleaning begin, When you find your QB in the arms of a friend, that’s when the heartache begins, when your dreams of a lifetime must come to an end that’s when your heartache begins,

Let the Purge begin!!!! All defense is fair game.

I would not replace this kid with a rookie he is still on an upward trajectory. Ronald Jones was one of J Licht’s many wasted top draft piks
November 18th, 2018 at 6:45 pm
Where has the run game been all season particularly in the red zone?
November 18th, 2018 at 7:18 pm
Lack of effort = lack of leadership. It’s not the coaches I’m referring to. It’s the veteran players who don’t hold their teammates accountable. David and McCoy could be the physical equals of Brooks and Sapp, but they’d still suck because they don’t hold their teammates to a standard the way Brooks and Sapp did.

It seems to me that this entire team is frustrated and are not giving their best effort. My xmas wish is hire John Harbaugh keep Monken as OC if either of these guys want to come or stay here. I would like to see Winston and Fitz come back under new coaching but not my wish just would like to see can another staff get better result out of both
November 18th, 2018 at 7:35 pm
I would like to know what Noah Spence did to piss off the coaches that he doesn’t even sniff the field when the announcers are pointing out how the defensive line was gassed. What happened to rotating guys in and out? I know some are hurt but Spence is supposedly healthy, right? Another Licht gem! I hate to see another reboot but can’t see them staying with this group.

@tmaxi huh? What does your piss poor response have to do with what I said? Have you called your kids yet to apologize for being a bad dad? We talked about it before you changed your name to reality.

Barber ran hard as hell today. But let’s face it he is not a great runningback. He is to slow. If he was a couple steps faster he would be elite. He is a punishing back that just doesn’t have breakaway speed. He had two or three 10plus yards runs wher other backs would have made them house calls or gotten at least 20 more yards. He juked twice in the open field on his longest run of the day. The defender never moved and he ended up running right into him. A faster back would have made that guy miss and 50 yards later he would have been handing the ref the ball. But can’t say anything about his effort he played his ass of today. Him and that safety he ran over about 5 times are going to be sore tonight. And as for that 4th down qb sneak at the beginning of game why the hell are we sneaking behind Caleb on the right side when we have the two 40 million dollar men in the middle and on the left. And if I see a toss to slowest back in the league Rodgers in the red zone again I’m going to puke. The bucs are so frustrating to watch I had to quit drinking during the games this year to temper my frustration. It’s easier to just laugh when your sober. And say you can’t make this shit up. But i did call it before the game in the last article before the open thread that Fitzpatrick would throw three picks and get benched after halftime for jameis and he would lead us back to almost get the victory. Just said that Santos would miss a field goal to tie it. But we didn’t get that chance because desean if it’s not right to me won’t make an effort to get the ball or knock it down.

Joe, please find another picture of Barber to use. This one looks like concussion protocol.

I really have loved this kid’s heart & passion for running the football, all season. I have really become a Peyton Barber fan.
