Reborn NFL star

Bucs fans remember it well. And they reach for a bottle of Pepto Bismol each time.

Once upon a time Adrian Peterson was an all-time great. The running back from Oklahoma tore up NFL defenses for years while playing for the Vikings.

Father Time, we all know, is undefeated. And it sure looked like he was tugging at Peterson’s cape when the Vikings released him after an ugly 2016 season when Peterson played in only three games and ran for 72 yards.

Sean Payton picked him and he was awful with the Saints through four games and then squawked about not getting enough touches and bristled because rookie Alvin Kamara and former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram got more work. Payton released him and the Arizona Cardinals picked him up.

The first game? Against the Bucs. And as one can expect when facing a Mike Smith defense, Peterson came to life and went nuts on the Bucs running for 134 yards and two touchdowns in a Cardinals rout.

Peterson had only one other 100-game last year and the rest of the time looked like the running back the Vikings and Saints let go: old and washed up.

The Redskins, ravaged by injuries and desperate, signed him in late August. Brother of Chucky took a chance and, for reasons unknown, Peterson has had a rebirth. He’s looking more like his old self, averaging 4.7 yards a carry.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter sees a dangerous, healthy back on tape, not a washed up has-been.

“He got after us pretty good last year and he’s definitely – you see the same if not better on film,” Koetter said. “He’s having a heck of a year.”

Well, we know the Bucs defense has truly turned into a horror show. Joe, sadly, fully expects Peterson to run Sunday at the Den of Depression like a 27-year old, not the 33-year old that the calendar shows him to be.

Old and washed up yet still had a better year than Peyton Barber right, Joe. Does that make Barber young and useless?

  2. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Probably not, @Season. If Adrian were playing here, he would be averaging about 2.6 yards a carry and 43 yards a game.

  3. OneBucPerson Says:

I think it’s easy to forget that Washington has one of the better O-line in the league, and with them running a West Coast offense and mainly running up the gut AP was a perfect fit for them.

  4. theodore Says:

John Lynch still doesn’t know where Barry Sanders went.

  5. LakeLand Says:

The Saints traded him to the Arizona Cardinals for a 6th round draft pick

    Mickey Loomis isn’t Jason Licht

Loomis know how to wheel and deal players

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

Who needs a RB when you have the #1 passing offense?!!!!!! Yeah, um.

Dude AP has looks ridiculous. It frightens me that we’re facing him again, even with a banged up O-line.
It’s a good thing we got all those run-stuffing d-linemen!

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

    *AP looks*

  8. BucEmUp Says:

    Shut up Dirk

ROFL,,, nice one man. One of the hardest I ever saw John Lynch laugh is when he was on ESPN one time, watching back one of those videos where Barry Sanders split him into 2 Lynch’s. Haha

  10. K_Bassuka Says:

    I see 230 and 3 TDs against the non-defense.

  11. Jean Lafitte Says:

If ya wanna get better? ..play da Bucs

  12. BucsFan4Life Says:

I’m lose it if he has another game like he did on us last year!!

  13. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

With our O-Line, no running back in the league would be good

  14. Mike Says:

I hope he has a career day angainsr this side show- that was The turning point. Jameis and team were out courting him and playing with him- a real legend and a pro’s pro- a hall of fame Kobe Bryant- perfect preparation type player- wanted to bring him into the fold- great chemistry- someone they admired and could learn how to be pros from.

Light and Koetter, the dunce and the clown, handcuffed him.

Instead the Former O line know it all failed miserably

  15. passthebuc Says:

tell me again what was the name of that back we drafted in the 2nd round

This is the first of three games against the NFC East. From looking at the previous games of these teams the Bucs should go 3-0 or at least 2-1.

If they lose all three or win one but lose at home to San fran, Licht and Koetter should be fired immediately. No waiting until the end of the season.

The Native Americans are banged up, the Giants are a mess and I see an inspired JPP that game,

There are no excuses left, no communication excuses, no scheme excuses no coaching excuses left. It is either win or lose your jobs.

  17. Sydney Says:

The Redskins will blowout the Bucs.

  18. Steven007 Says:

The Bucs defense is the true Fountain of Youth.

People seems to forget the Bucs held “AllDay” Peterson to just a few yards in a game not too long ago, with just about these same group of players (if not worse). I believe it was a 2 or 3 years ago, I saw that game. Dont remember exactly the year (chemotherapy will do that to you), but I know they did. Here’s hoping they reproduce that performance.
