Some Love For Adam Humphries

Beautiful flowers are growing among the thick weeds at One Buc Palace.
One is Adam Humphries.
The undrafted tryout player from Clemson is having his best NFL season since joining the Bucs in 2015.
And yeah, they cut him that season but later brought him back. Joe also enjoys when Humphries tells the story of arriving a rookie and people at One Buc thought he was a member of the training staff.
After his first career two-touchdown game Sunday in Charlotte, Humphries is now on pace for 70 receptions for 756 yards and four touchdowns this season. Those would all be single-season career highs.
If those numbers play out, Humphries would have the 16th-most career catches by a Buccaneer at the end of this season — 213, five behind mattress-in-the-yard Mike Williams (215).
Joe’s very happy for Humphries. He’s such an easy guy to root for. Rudy!
This is a contract year for Humphries and he’s definitely one Buccaneer who doesn’t have to worry about being employed in the NFL next season.

Much respect for Humph and his determination and open field ability to extend plays. Clemson players seem more ready to play in the Nfl, IMO. Get some of their guys on the defense ,they play with heart.

glazers have to reward a player like hump……outside of JPP, hump has the most heart on the team and I would argue he has the most mental toughness……aint nothing soft about hump…..great team mate and always knows what to do on and off the field…..
I wish we had 40 more with a heart like hump……

Actually 813, I would rather have Christian Wilkens. Dude is a swiss army knife of DTs. I plays inside, outside, stuffs the run. Heck he even runs in goal line TDs and catches them as well.

So he doesn’t get gouged paying state taxes in California or Massachusetts.
In Massachusetts Humphries would (based on this year’s salary) pay five percent in state income taxes, or $148,614. In California, Humphries would pay $363,149.
And the cost of living in the Tampa Bay area is a helluva lot cheaper than Boston or Los Angeles.
Losing is a little more tolerable when you put a $360,000 price tag on winning. So if Humphries played in Los Angeles three seasons based on his 2018 contract, he would pay over $1 million in state taxes (not counting federal taxes).

Lol please he’d still be making plenty of money after paying taxes AND he could be on a team that isn’t completely dysfunctional.
I hope he comes back, I love Hump. But to think he’ll stay simply bc of state taxes is ridiculous.

Hump has always been very underated. The Glazers need to sign him now. One of the best slot receivers in the game.

I don’t understand the Front Office. Last season Hump and Brate had solid seasons, and they both are growing in the NFL. Out of all the needs we have on this offense, they go out and spend high draft picks or sign these two players replacements. These two were the only bright spots on this offense last season. No intelligent person would neglect our O-Line needs. We added “weapons for Jameis”, but, are they the right weapons?

He’s a perfect fit in Tampa Bay. Will be resigned. Have too many dead weight contracts with no cap hits to let him walk. Hump is more valuable to the offense than Djax, especially long term. He will be paid.
I think Watson in the fifth was a good pick. Will stick by that.

Don’t know why Brate isn’t being thrown to more. The Patriots used both Gronk and Hernandez successfully. Thought that was the way it was going to work for Bucs too, but Brate isn’t on the field like he had been last two years, and he’s just not being thrown to with any regularity. Hence his numbers are down. He catches what he’s thrown. Really don’t understand the thought process here.

Silly, silly JBF. He says Adam would pay $1M in state taxes in CA under his 2018 contract.
He’ll never play a down outside Tampa under his 2018 contract. And his 2019 thru 2022 contract will pay him a helluva lot more than the Bucs will ever part with for a guy who’s replacement is already on the roster.

A lot of people who don’t like sports say they don’t like it because the players are overpaid(which is silly considered that those same people probabbly never miss a Tom Cruise movie).
But a lot of times I don’t think these people see the big picture. While things come easy to many of the high profile players there are so many more players who work their tails off trying to make it.
There was a point in time where Adam Humphries was considers nothing more then campmeat and a future UPS driver. The dude had to work his ass off to compete for a job in this league. I can nearly guarantee you that the only reason we all know who Hump is was because he outworked several players that he competed against. Gotta love players like that.

Hump is a great fit as the teams #4 WR, that means he gets matchups against guys deep on teams depth charts, but when he’s higher on the depth chart we already know the outcome. This is literally what I always said, the guy is a good #4 WR where he’s actually better than the defenders he’s going against, the issue is dummies think he’s a #2 WR when we’ve seen in him that role and he was a huge failure. Also no one gets Jameis in more trouble than Hump, if anyone has the numbers I guarantee you more INTs are thrown by Jameis trying to find Hump than anyone else on the team, and I bet it’s not even close. If anyone has access to the numbers I’d love to know if I’m right or not.
The issue with Hump is he’s going to want high end #3 money, or even #2 money, and there’s no way Tampa can give him that money with so many holes. With that said he seems like a guy (undersized white guy, shifty) that will go to the Pats and put up big numbers. I just don’t see how the Bucs pay him $6-7m a year to be a #4, and yes, D-Jax will likely be gone, but I don’t want Hump as one injury away from starting, he’s not that good and last time we were in that situation he failed miserably.

This guy is an excellent role player, he does his job, knows how to work all of the underneath routes and is a great slasher. His effort this year has been fantastic. His production is the best he’s shown since coming to Tampa. Unlike some of the slugs on the team, he’s playing hard for his next contract, some of the others are just crusin’

Anywho I try not to hate on him because I do think he’s a quality DEPTH player, and said all along as a 4th WR he’d excell since he’d be playing against guys who he can physically out match as he has very good quickness and catches a lot of balls. However I have a hard time forgiving him for fumbling away that Buffalo game – it literally changed the entire season last year. Tampa wins that game they’re 3-3 and still very much alive, instead he wastes an amazing day by Winston who gutted through the game injured and they leave 2-4 and the season is over. Makes me disgusted just thinking about.

Humphries is noticeably stronger this year. Hopefully he will keep up the solid play when the games are winnable. Both Fitz and Jameis seem to find him open and he’s pretty sure handed. That fumble though.. ugghhh
